Oceans 3 roll with a Madai on the side
Steve A.

I wish to update my initial review. I was in the mood for sushi on Monday, when Wasabi is closed, and decided it's been too long since I Sushi Housed. My new old vibe: I like this place! You watch them assemble rolls in front of you, and the restaurant feels put together in a very authentic way. There are a ton of sushi options including some bizarre rolls I've never seen before. Of course, some of the things I wanted to try were not in stock, but I had some delicious soup and some delicious sushi. I did end up ordering the same Ocean 3 roll as last time and it came out similarly, though with bigger chunks of fish than I recall from my initial review. So now I'm starting to think that I may like this spot more than I remember. I'll give them a third shot - no Ocean 3 next time for sure! - and see what happens.

Fuji Volcano Roll

Got takeout from here as we always pass it but have never tried it. It took them 15 minutes to have our order ready and they were pleasant to us. The place is somewhat small but it seems nicely decorated. We got their Chef's Special roll, Fuji Volcano roll, and pork Gyoza. The Chef's roll was good, the cream cheese had a nice flavor to it - it was hot which was good. The Fuji roll was okay, we only got 5 pieces and it was cold despite it having shrimp tempura which was not what we expected, we also couldn't see nor taste the avocado. The Gyoza was okay, the sauce it came with was good and it helped with the flavor. Overall, it's a good spot if you need to grab something quick and fairly priced.

My family and I really enjoyed the experience. We have came countless times and would really recommend it to you. I especially enjoyed the Spicy Tuna Bowl, the mixture of the sauce, tuna and avocado was incredible.

Shrimp tempura roll (top) and Alaska roll

Stopped in for lunch here today. Their lunch special menu is pretty inclusive. Lunch specials are good every day, except holidays, which was a nice touch. Service was pretty good, but minimal interactions which was fine for me. I had two rolls for $11 (Alaska and shrimp tempura) and my husband had three rolls fir $14. We both left Sushi House full and satisfied.

Three Roll Spicy Combo

Well below average size sushi rolls, not gluten-free friendly, and nauseating rolls that cause heartburn, and acid reflux sums up this overrated restaurant. I'll never order from Boonton again. They clearly don't take pride in what they serve. Quality is without question easily compromised to make larger margins. Good luck with that.

Dynamite roll and Philadelphia roll

Great ambiance, clean and nicely decorated. Service was okay - they definitely don't seem enthused to be there. The rolls took a bit of time to come out for it being a quiet day in my opinion. But I did enjoy them! Was so eager to eat though that my first bite of the fried roll I got burned my mouth a bit.

A nice little spot in town with decently fresh sushi. They accommodated our requests to sub out some of the fish in the boat and it was very considerate.

Great and fresh sushi. Place is small, dated and a bit dark. Nice service. Parking can be difficult.

This…read moremakes it clear that Asahi is a sushi restaurant that happens to serve ramen (that isn't very popular), not a ramen restaurant with a couple sushi varieties. And when I sat down inside this ultra-casual restaurant - I'm pretty sure that it's a converted residential house - I only saw my fellow diners ordering sushi. So don't come here for ramen; come for an incredibly tasty, inexpensive sushi experience. I had an amazing roll, and let me tell you, the presentation is stunning. It came out sizzling on cast iron, while my server spooned garlic sauce over the top to cook it and add dazzle. Filled with avocado and spicy tuna, the portion would be perfect for sharing with someone. I also had a dynamite roll, which more or less melted in my mouth. I was less wild about the Christian crosses at every table. I'm a secular person. All in all though, Asahi qualifies as a hidden, off-the-beaten-path gem of Parsippany.

When we pulled into the parking lot, we noticed the door was held open with an elastic cord.. which seemed very odd to both my dining companion and I considering the chill in the mid-autumn evening air.. until we walked up the stairs and both noticed the thick smoky haze hanging in the air inside the restaurant. We looked at each other, nodded, and made a quick 180-degree turn, then drove to another local establishment for our ramen fix.

The staff is fast and attentive and the theme / atmosphere is clean and authentic. Last table we had was Osaka inspired. We used to go to our local sushi place which was good. But each specialty roll cost between $17.00 and $19.99. 4 rolls and an app costs more than Miga - where you get everything you would want and more. The desert is also included with a few great options including my favorite- green tea ice cream. Highly recommend. Make reservations as it gets really packed. Enjoy!

The shrimp tempura roll wasn't as warm as expected, which took away from it a bit. I placed an online order and arrived a few minutes after they opened doors. They must have made in early in advance. On the positive side, the Denville King roll was definitely the standout! Really delicious and worth ordering again. Overall, a solid experience. I'd come back and try the all-you-can-eat menu next time to see how it compares!

I also loved the ambiance of the place. There's something about it that feels very communal, and it was cool being able to watch the sushi chefs and the rest of the team at work. This will definitely become one of my staples in Morristown!

The bad news is they lost points due to making us wait almost an hour for a small order -the staff is very nice but they appeared to be filling a ton of Grubhub orders before us and the place was half empty. Other issue - the main one- is their prices are astronomical for a hole in the wall joint in Morristown. As high as any of the Manhattan glam spots, i.e. Soho, Madison Ave, Columbus Circle, etc. Where else do you pay $13 for a salmon roll? 90% of places charge around $7-8 per, so you're looking at a very steep bill. Again, the fish is great but be prepared to spend hi end prices for a hole in the wall joint.
