But they didn't offer me a drink or even bring water after I sat down. When the waiter showed up 12 minutes later, I ordered a green tea, and he didn't notice for minutes that I'd finished it (so I finally flagged him for a refill). The rolls were just fine. I've had fresher. I didn't realize the kamikaze is a cooked roll, which might be why I had to wait another 16 minutes to eat even after ordering. With a special roll, a California roll, and green tea, my total was $23 before tip. The waiter brought me the check without asking if I was done, which felt weird. read more

Not a fan...truly wished I did as it's the closest to where I live in town. I tried the omakase and given the price as it's much cheaper than most - it's decent. It was nothing special and almost tasteless. It is not authentic, but if you don't mind and just want a sushi kick then this might be alright for rolls. My daughter had their udon noodle soup and it was a no for me. Service was good, but nothing special. The ambience was just like any other regular sushi place. I wish to update my initial review. I was in the mood for sushi on Monday, when Wasabi is closed, and decided it's been too long since I Sushi Housed. My new old vibe: I like this place! You watch them assemble rolls in front of you, and the restaurant feels put together in a very authentic way. There are a ton of sushi options including some bizarre rolls I've never seen before. Of course, some of the things I wanted to try were not in stock, but I had some delicious soup and some delicious sushi. I did end up ordering the same Ocean 3 roll as last time and it came out similarly, though with bigger chunks of fish than I recall from my initial review. So now I'm starting to think that I may like this spot more than I remember. I'll give them a third shot - no Ocean 3 next time for sure! - and see what happens. read more

Got takeout from here as we always pass it but have never tried it. It took them 15 minutes to have our order ready and they were pleasant to us. The place is somewhat small but it seems nicely decorated. We got their Chef's Special roll, Fuji Volcano roll, and pork Gyoza. The Chef's roll was good, the cream cheese had a nice flavor to it - it was hot which was good. The Fuji roll was okay, we only got 5 pieces and it was cold despite it having shrimp tempura which was not what we expected, we also couldn't see nor taste the avocado. The Gyoza was okay, the sauce it came with was good and it helped with the flavor. Overall, it's a good spot if you need to grab something quick and fairly priced. read more

In one sentence: No better than supermarket sushi, just triple the price. In details: Our usual spot in the area was closed, so we ordered the same order (with a few exceptions, as they do not have a yellowtail scallion roll?!?!!) from Boonton Sushi House. We tend to fair more on the traditional side and do not order the specialty rolls. Nothing was tasty, generally lacked flavor, and the quality of the fish was subpar, even for deep suburbia. The worst offenders were the spicy rolls, my kids ordered the spicy tune (which I never do, as they are never made fresh) and I had the spicy scallop, which was def a lot better, but both had more tempura flakes in the rolls than any other ingredient, felt like I was eating sawdust. Not even my teen boy (that is at the age that he would eat the plate if I didn't look) could eat the spicy tuna, and I had to dump out chunks of tempura flakes to enjoy what morsels of scallops were there. The nigiri's had very little fish and a huge amount of rice. What fish we got there, was of the same meh quality as in the rolls. To top it all off prices are noticeably higher, for 3 ppl this was about $20 more expensive than our usual. Worst experience ever!!! On Thursday, 8/29, we placed a near $200.00 order for my staff to celebrate a great summer season. When the order was picked up, it was incorrect and missing several items. We had to go back and the owner or manager was beyond nasty and told us he doesn't count the items that go into the bag. He then told the young lady picking up the order to leave. This was a 17-year old girl that was bullied by this person. If you are a local resident, a woman or anyone who has children, you know what you would do if an adult man bullied your daughter, niece or family friend. I have never been made to feel more unwelcome at a restaurant than I was today at Boonton Sushi House. I don't live near Boonton, but today I happened to be in the area and I had a yearning for sushi. Unfortunately, most sushi restaurants aren't open on Monday, so when I saw that Boonton Sushi House was open, I quickly decided to go. I had been to the restaurant several years ago and remembered enjoying it. Unfortunately, that wasn't going to be the case today. When I walked in the door I didn't get a warm "hello", but I was told rather brusquely "we're closing in 15 minutes" and they weren't seating any more customers (although that didn't seem to be the case for the two ladies who walked in ahead of me). I pointed out that both their website and the sign on their door said they were open for another hour. Their reply was that the owner just changed the business hours that very morning and they hadn't updated the sign or website yet. If you believe that, I have a bridge to sell you. So, with no options I turned to leave, but was then quickly told I could eat, as if they were doing me a favor. The whole thing didn't exactly scream "we value your business ", but I still chose to sit down even though I didn't really feel wanted. Frankly, I'm not that familiar with the Boonton area and didn't know where else to go. Upon sitting down, I asked for their lunch menu. They then told me they weren't offering the lunch menu because it was Martin Luther King's birthday and only the much higher priced dinner menu was available. Really? This is a little gem for sure... honestly i walked by this place many times, but never get to go inside (well i guess i need someone to recommend me to go to try out new sushi place because i do have a favorite that i go to...) SO, a friend of mine recommended and we went... i would say you really get your money worth especially for the lunch special!! For $15 you can get either sashimi platter, or sushi combo, or special roll combo, and all different kind of combo. and i was actually full after so that's a big plus!! My husband and i order 2 lunch special and an additional special roll (6 pieces sashimi combo, 2 regular roll + 1 special roll, and 1 special roll)... and we were stuffed!! Being Asian, when I saw this sushi place in Boonton, I was skeptical. My husband and I have had a lot of good sushi over the years in NYC and California. My husband tried this place first and was raving about it, but I was still not convinced. Finally after I had my baby, we ordered the omakase of 10 pieces for $35 for takeout and was blown away by the quality of the sushi. Everything tasted soooo fresh and melted in my mouth. Every time we order, it's slightly different depending on what is in season and fresh but we've seen uni, salmon belly, toro, giant clam, oyster, and sweet shrimp to name a few. The hand rolls are also amazing. I usually like getting the sea eel hand roll. I finally got a chance to visit the restaurant and service was amazing. Walter and his staff are always so friendly. The waitresses are so sweet. I'm ecstatic to have found such an amazing, high quality sushi restaurant so close to home without having to travel all the way into the city. read more

Had an extremely uncomfortable and rude experience from the moment we even walked in. The waiters were negligent of us by taking a long time to seat us when there were plenty of open tables and they didn't even give us menus when we sat down. Not only did the table next to us have menus, but the waiter who took their orders just walked away with their menus after and didn't even bother paying attention to us. We had to get up ourselves to ask for menus and after looking offended by us doing so, one of the waiters came shortly after and plopped a pile of dirty, half-torn menus on our table without saying anything. Because it's a bit of a drive from my house this will probably never become my 'go-to' sushi place, but I did find a sushi place that I will be happy to return to when I'm in the area. I kept it very simple today-no special rolls, no large order like Chirashi, no bento box...just a lunch sushi special-a small California roll, four pieces of nigiri sushi, and a small side salad. The sushi was delicious and the pieces were generous. The salad was pretty weak, as are most side salads at Japanese restaurants-just some iceberg lettuce, some shaved carrots and one small tomato wedge. The place was pretty full for 1:30 on a Thursday so the service was kind of slow, but the young lady taking orders was quite nice. I'm looking forward to coming back here and trying a full meal as everything looked delicious. read more

Ordered takeout for 2 years from them. Same 2 rolls Everytime. Today they tasted bad and when I called to complain for the first time, the chef said they were fresh so thats it. I spent 10 minutes trying to get a refund for the 2 rolls. They claim their system won't do refunds. They wanted to replace but if they say it's fresh I certainly don't want bad fish again. I almost puked from the taste and can still smell it in my trash. BAD SMELL + BAD TASTE = BAD FISH. How did it end in an argument cause they didn't want to do anything for me. Although I love to try new places, when at home I'm a creature of habit and like going to my favorite places for the food I love. COVID forced my hand to look for sushi while my local favorite was shut and I'm so glad I did. Got just a variety of sushi and rolls to try and like everything very much.
