Sashimi Dinner & Spicy Maki Combo
    Marie B.

We came to Wasabi Bistro for our anniversary and it was ok. The sushi and sashimi was good, but the inside was not at ALL what we expected. There was carpet and only a few tables, very dated. I suspect they're primarily a take out location. However, the food was good. The sashimi was fresh and tasty. The spicy maki combo hit nicely with the sashimi. We just drank water, it didn't look like they had much in the way of beverages. It's not what I expected for our anniversary, but we'd probably order takeout from them. Just not as nice for dine in.

Hate to give this place 2 stars because our waitress was really nice, service was very quick (we were the only table there on a Sunday afternoon), sushi presentation was beautiful and Instagram-worthy, and our sushi tasted pretty good for the most part (my Angry Dragon roll had an odd aftertaste but I thought it was just the soy paper; my boyfriend also complained that his Rainbow roll was good but tasted a little "off")...but I just can't justify a higher rating after both my boyfriend and I got VERY BAD food poisoning here. Not sure if the kitchen isn't clean or the fish went bad, but I don't plan to come back.

WOW. This was the freshest sushi I have had in so long!!! This was a steal for $20. Also coming with a soup! Absolutely recommend for quality fish.

    Pad Thai and gyoza

I ordered take out so this is purely on food quality. Well the delivery man was nice so that's a plus Pad Thai and gyoza were delicious and on point. Sushi could be smaller with less filler though. Miso soup was alright not too good. Overall I enjoyed the food and wouldn't mind coming again when I'm in town

    Excellent takeout. Super fresh

Ordered delivery. It came within the estimated window, so no complaints there. Ordered several different maki rolls and the pork gyoza. Everything seemed super fresh and tasted delicious and the rolls were huge. I definitely think it was great for the price.

And when I sat down inside this ultra-casual restaurant - I'm pretty sure that it's a converted residential house - I only saw my fellow diners ordering sushi. So don't come here for ramen; come for an incredibly tasty, inexpensive sushi experience. I had an amazing roll, and let me tell you, the presentation is stunning. It came out sizzling on cast iron, while my server spooned garlic sauce over the top to cook it and add dazzle. Filled with avocado and spicy tuna, the portion would be perfect for sharing with someone. I also had a dynamite roll, which more or less melted in my mouth. I was less wild about the Christian crosses at every table. I'm a secular person. All in all though, Asahi qualifies as a hidden, off-the-beaten-path gem of Parsippany.

When we pulled into the parking lot, we noticed the door was held open with an elastic cord.. which seemed very odd to both my dining companion and I considering the chill in the mid-autumn evening air.. until we walked up the stairs and both noticed the thick smoky haze hanging in the air inside the restaurant. We looked at each other, nodded, and made a quick 180-degree turn, then drove to another local establishment for our ramen fix.

The place is a simpler local eatery, so decor wasn't exactly a designed by some of the best New York interior decorators, but it was pleasant and very calm. The food is a fusion of various Asian cuisines but it is picked very well and cooked to perfection. Kids loved the Baos and Ramen which is probably one of the best indicators of the quality. From what I can tell it is family owned and run, so service may be a little slower than most similar places but it is definitely attentive and friendlier then most.

We shared some small plates and tried to get a good feel for the menu. Higher end vibe with some cool fusion elements to the options available - it's clear ingredients are high quality and presentation is very important to them. Even the drinks have fun little lights in them! Service was very kind and attentive but also lets you take your time - which is lovely! We had reservations which I don't think was necessary on a weeknight, but would recommend it for weekends. They mark your reserved table with a cute sign! Overall prices were a bit high for the portions but I understand it's likely for quality. Be prepared to spend if you're hungry!

This used to be one of my favorite all you can eat sushi spots, and I honestly recommended it to a lot of people. I hadn't been back in about a year, but since it's always packed, I assumed the quality was still the same. Unfortunately, it wasn't. The biggest issue was the freshness. The sushi tasted like it had been prepared hours earlier instead of being made fresh to order. The fish lacked that fresh, clean flavor I remembered, and the texture just wasn't right. The sashimi slices were surprisingly tiny compared to what they used to serve, and both the eel and the albacore tuna tasted old, which was really disappointing. On top of that, the portions were noticeably smaller across several dishes. I don't mind smaller portions at an all you can eat restaurant if the quality is there, but this time neither the quality nor the freshness met the standard I remembered. I'm not sure if management or the kitchen has changed, but the experience was completely different from what it used to be. I truly hope this was just an off day because this restaurant was once one of my favorites. Sadly, based on this visit, I can't say I'd rush back.

Other issue - the main one- is their prices are astronomical for a hole in the wall joint in Morristown. As high as any of the Manhattan glam spots, i.e. Soho, Madison Ave, Columbus Circle, etc. Where else do you pay $13 for a salmon roll? 90% of places charge around $7-8 per, so you're looking at a very steep bill.
