I must confess that I've lived in U.S. towns and cities comprised of large populations of Asians, including those from Thailand, so perhaps my expectations for this restaurant were unreasonable. Altogether, I was disappointed in the food. It was not at all what I would call authentic Thai food. I would rate the service as excellent: prompt, attentive, polite and competent. For 30 years, I've been a beginner when it comes to Thai food. Pad thai is my go-to meal and this dish was about as good as expected. The calamari was very tasty but the dipping sauce was one of the best I've ever had. It had a slight kick to it that I enjoyed. I ordered it online and it was ready in 20 minutes. We picked Thonglor for a Sunday lunch as we were craving for some Thai food. We walked in around noon, right before the restaurant started to get busy. As I walked in, I was amazed by the stunning interior and gorgeous decor of this restaurant. The giant red bow at the door, the sculptures, lights, everything had such authentic Thai vibe all around the place. They had a huge menu with all sorts of dishes. Of course I started with my favorite tom yum soup that was citrusy, filled with seafood. Then we had several other items like the roti massaman, Thai wings, fried shrimp cake, pineapple fried rice, shrimp red curry and roasted red duck. All the items had incredible taste and flavor. The portions were good size. We also got Thai iced tea. For the very first time, I had Thai iced tea that had cream on top with a vanilla flower in it. Alongside the delicious we had amazing service from staff. They constantly cleaned our table and also packed out left overs. The dishes were served within reasonable time too. In downtown Denville. The place is a lot bigger on the inside than you would think looking in from the street. The atmosphere is very calming and the decor embraces the culture. We sat down for lunch. The server was very friendly and answered all our questions. There were so many different options for drinks and they all looked good! I got a Shirley temple and a Thai ice tea. The Shirley temple has been one of the better ones I've had more recently. With the lunch specials you get your own personal appetizer. I got the crab Rangoon and it came with honey mustard sauce which I've never had before but surprisingly the taste combination was excellent. We also split curry puffs which were very good. My parents and I ordered takeout from this place a couple of days ago. I think this place is in the same spot as Thai Chef. I love Thai cuisine so I was excited to try a new place. Their menu had a lot of items. We ordered pad thai noodle with chicken, Tom yum fried rice with tofu (mild) and masaman curry with chicken (medium spicy). The pad thai noodle dish was okayI felt the chicken was a bit dry. Maybe I should have asked for shrimp instead. We should have ordered medium spicy for the Tom yum fried rice. It was good but could have kicked it up a notch. The masaman curry with chicken was the best. Good flavor. What a great Thai restaurant in a town with many dining choices. Thonglor Thai Bistro is a cozy, festive , yet calm and Zen venue with friendly service and great quality food. Even on a Monday for lunch, the food was freshly made and tasted great. The Tom Kha coconut soup with chicken was a large portion and the chicken was fresh and tender, not rubbery. The Pad Kee Mao (Drunken Man Noodles) with chicken was perfectly made. A request for extra Thai Basil was accommodated without hesitation. The medium spice was a perfect balance and the noodles were also freshly made, and not rubbery. The green tea was an enjoyable palate cleanser. The hostess, named Jelly, was very pleasant and helpful. We look forward to returning soon, and ordering take out as well. Parking is available on the street. It is a BYOB. read more

Went there on Saturday May 10, 2025 for a late birthday dinner for the wifey. I keep forgetting how good this place is! The pros. The food is great. The service is excellent. The ambiance is nice and it is right in downtown Denville. I cannot say enough how tasty the food is. The chicken Satay appetizer was awesome and had great flavor. Grilled perfectly and the peanut sauce was some of the best I ever had! I had the Seafood Pad Cha and it was amazingly delicious! The cons. It is slightly pricey but you seem to get very good quality food for the "bang for your buck" experience. The chicken satay appetizer was on the smaller size for the cost but the flavor was good. Only other complaint is they stuck us on a table in the middle of the walk way so my arms were constantly bumping into people walking on either side of me. Which was beyond annoying. We decided to stop for Thai en route to PA. The restaurant is very pretty. We were seated right away and it was not busy at all at 4PM on Friday. Given how not busy it appeared, our entrees took an eternity to come out. Our drinks and app came out in time. Not sure happened with the entrees. I've ordered takeout a few times from Thonglor and it's consistently been 10/10. From here on out this is probably the only place that I'll order Thai from. I usually stick to the same few things, but when they are so good there's just not a need to switch it up. Curry puffs are a must to start - the order comes with three huge puffs. For mains I'll go with chicken pad thai or beef pad see ew. The pad see ew is so good, I can literally gobble up the entire bowl. It's not super noodle heavy and there's always a generous amount of meat and broccoli. I've been in to pick up takeout but have never actually dined in. The space is gorgeous though. It's brand new and they did a wonderful job with the decor. Hopefully I can eat in one day, but for now will continue to order takeout whenever that Thai craving hits. read more

Having lived in the area a long time ago, I was surprised to see this as an option for lunch. It's new, about 6 months old, and has some growing pains to work through I think but will end up being a great stop for a weekend dinner at some point. We went with the soft shell crab larb, which was a special. The soft shell crab was delicious and the larb packed quite the punch, which we knew it would. It could have been less liquidy, but overall a nice option. For entree, we went with two options: beef Bangkok noodle and chicken chili cashew nut. The former I felt like was better, with a nice flavoring to the beef. The noodles were a little firmer than I would have hoped and maybe could be cooked slightly more. The latter was a bit of a letdown. We were told it would be Thai medium spicy and it was neither Thai medium spicy nor normal medium spicy. The ingredients were there, so I'm not totally sure why it really didn't have a spice. The decorations and vibe of the place are great. The plating is really special, which I appreciated. The food took a shockingly long time to come out, especially for how many people were in the restaurant, but the service itself was great. What really hit me though, was the price. I do wish they offered the lunch special on the weekends, because it was tough to pay $20/dish on a Sunday lunch and probably would prevent me from doing so. read more

Just got back from Thailand so I wasn't expecting much from this place but it was surprisingly crowded but they still managed to squeeze us in without a reservation. They do not have a liquor license so no alcohol to compliment their food unless you bring your own beer or wine. We had the Chicken Pad See ew, the red curry chicken & the seared scallop appetizer twas really excellent, the Tom Yum soup did not disappoint. My only 2 very minor disappointment to a great dinner was the quality of the banana in the fried banana dessert & how ridiculously salty the fish chili sauce was, We were happy that they were able to accommodate us on a crowded Thursday night . This place is BYO so I brought vodka & they immediately asked me to not leave the bottle on the table as they can only have wine or beer on the table - this has never happened to me before. A gorgeous, ornate ambiance, proud and hyperattentive service, and freshly served dishes made for a delightful midday interlude in downtown Denville. The $15 lunch special comes with a free app. I went with the crab rangoon, which had perfectly fried, crispy edges. For my main, I enjoyed a lightly sautéed garlic chicken with a healthy portion of veggies. I know people who would think this food is perfect, so please keep that in mind when I share that I felt everything could have standed more salt. That said, it was more than fine! Came here for lunch. Nice decor, background music and lighting. Being the first time here, I tried a basic noodle dish, Pad See Ew with chicken. Food came out very fast and was a very good portion. Flavor was spot on for Pad See Ew. I like that they use Chinese and America broccoli but wish there was more Chinese broccoli. Overall, a good experience for lunch, in and pretty quick. The papaya salad was super fresh. The roti massaman was flavorful, with a rich coconut curry, though the roti itself felt less authentic. The pad see ew had a nice kick, so it might be a bit too spicy for those sensitive to heat, but I found it delicious with the chewy noodles and all the Thai spices mixed in!!!
