Very small shop with tight bar seating for maybe 6. The staff was very friendly and helpful. When our group of 5 said we hadn't been there and were having trouble deciding which donuts to order, she went through the entire case and told us what each donut was. I got a twist, which was half plain and half chocolate, which was tasty but huge! I save half for later in the day. I was disappointed that they didn't have water included in their refrigerated case of drinks and wouldn't even give me a cup of water. I ended up buying an orange juice that I didn't really want so I had something to drink with my donut. This a hole-in-the-wall donut shop that largely sticks to the classics and does them extremely well. It's about as big as a minute, with just a couple seats--it's probably best to order to go. On a Saturday morning, we found the cases crammed with offerings, with more on trays in the wall behind the counter. A small case atop the counter had cupcakes. We ordered a dozen donuts. I selected a braided glazed donut and a blueberry cake donut. Both were fantastic, but that blueberry donut was especially good. read more

This is a nostalgic local donut shop. There is adequate parking available in the shop's private lot. Be careful heading there though, they had some of those traffic cameras up on the road leading to the shop. They have cake and yeast donuts. There is also a few seats at the counter that patrons can sit and enjoy their treats. The shop has some very reasonable prices and a decent selection. I saw the pretzel donut and was like "yes, please". I had to get two of them. I also got a frosted donut with sprinkles, a pineapple thing, lemon filled, and maple bacon. The donuts were pretty good. The littles and I went through them like a hot knife through butter. The shop has it regulars and the staff is ok. They are not rude, but not very friendly either. They do their job, which I am cool with. This shop consistently finishes in the top 3 of the Best of Dayton, Donuts, and for good reason. This shop is on the better end of local Dayton donut shops and worth a stop in. read more

Stan the Donut Man is an old school style donut shop. They have no frills diner style coffee and SO many delicious donut options. I tried a Bavarian cream and blueberry cake. Both were excellent! Add on a hot coffee with cream and sugar and an orange juice and it was exactly what I was hoping for. The prices were unbeatable and everything tasted great. Decided to try these local donuts after our 2hr walk at US air-force museum . By the time entered we they ran out of lot of donuts, I got the peanut cinammon donut and a drip which costed me $3. I called while standing outside and asked if they were open, and the man said "no we are closed now". it's 7:15pm with a plethora of donuts, why advertise open until 8pm if customers can't actually show up after 7? This is second time posting this review. I've been coming to Stan's for over twenty five years. I won't be back. Took my kids there on a Saturday morning and my son was choking on pot smoke as soon as he opened his car door. Do your thing but don't do it in the parking lot. Look. The donuts are good. The service is poor. If you're a regular, I imagine you'll be getting good service, but it wasn't the case when I visited last time. If you're going to have a ton of donut options, have a little patience while I see why you have. The donuts are big. The options are plenty. But, you better know what you want. If you live in the greater Dayton area, and people are talking about donuts all you're gonna hear is "Bills", "Bills", "Bills". But I say! "STAN!" Stan the Donut man is, in my opinion, the best local donut shop in the area. The shop is small, but offers a nice variety of donuts, cronuts, and fritters. They also sell muffins and cookies, but I've never bought these so I can't attest to the taste. Stan has a short counter; sometimes as I'm waiting place my order I see the regulars who come in order a donut and a cup of coffee. Whenever I stop and get dozen for the work-place I get the frequent response, "These are so good! Where did you get them?" If you're in the mood for a donut, stop at Stan's. Wow... this place is small so don't blink when you are driving down the street. But the parking lot is big so either they get a lot of customers (I was there in the middle of the afternoon so not a normal donut time, even by my standards) or there is a lot of room to turn in when you don't see it at first. Either way, well worth the stop. A good selection of FRESH donuts; you can see the folks in the back making more to replace the ones that you gobble up. Not many are left over after break time....these are always spot on. Always fresh, but I am there at 0600 so that is to be expected. I love checking out bakeries (especially doughnuts) whenever I'm in a new town. Yesterday, hearing the hype about Bills, I bought two dozen doughnuts. They were OK - not great. GREAT customer service! And, I was only there for about 10 minutes, and I had at least three or four people thank me for my service (I was in uniform). Bottom line, though, the donuts were just ok. I read some reviews about Stans, and I read one guy say "everyone says Bills but Stans is where it's at." So, I go there this morning: I buy some donut holes and a couple of donuts - DELISH! I go back in and buy some more for breakfast tomorrow! The cake donut holes so far are my favorite. Small place, not as much notoriety as Bills, but, hands down, better donuts. We've been there before and been satisfied with the quality of the donuts. Not as good as Bills but a close second. Stopped by the other night around 8 pm to grab some to bring to work the next day and waited in the lobby patiently for 10 minutes and no one ever came to the front desk. We could hear voices in the back room and we yelled out several times but they clearly couldn't hear us or their own ringing phone over their loud music in the back room. It was once said that the greatest ability is availability. This is where Stan the Donut Man falls woefully short. While the donuts themselves are on par with the best in the area, the procilivity to close early puts this Dayton original in the minor leagues. Other local donut shops like Bill's (Centerville) and Jim's (Vandalia) seem to be able to be open during their posted hours. Stan's, on the other hand, has been closed earlier than their posted hours the last FOUR times I've tried to patronize them. Stan- you made me have to go to Dunkin and I'm not sure I can forgive you for that! I'll just caution any prospective patron that you should probably call ahead to see if they will be open because you can't believe what they've posted on the door or what you find on the internet. read more

But stop in here and get them hot. Fine raised donuts, wonderful cake donuts (blueberry right out of the fryer are astounding and I don't like blueberry donuts.) A whole range of cool and original (to my out of town ear) fancy donuts. Davie Crocket, Bow Ties, Tiger Tails, and glazed croissants. Sunday morning crowd is homey. A guy's always there who's glad anew every week that we take our kids to church. I suspect he's not there at midnight, their closing time on weekends. read more

These donuts are seriously the best in the area. You should try them, because everyone deserves to have a fantastic donut...or three! I highly recommend the chocolate with custard, my absolute favorite! I gave them three stars for two reasons: the parking lot is in terrible disrepair and just getting worse. There are no lines and people just park haphazardly all over the place, including blocking other people in. This is very frustrating and could easily be fixed by painting lines. The other, main reason, for the lack of stars from me is because despite their world class donuts, the counter staff is rude, rude, rude. They don't even try to greet customers with a smile or say thank you after you make your choices. If there isn't anyone waiting, they just turn around and walk away, as if you are already gone.
