A very obscure looking restaurant from the outside in a small town without much around it. Decided to give it a try on a Sunday morning before riding the nearby trail. Was greeted promptly and warmly near the end of their serving time. After asking if they were closing, we were told they were just cleaning up from the rush and we were welcome to have a seat anywhere. The waitress arrived promptly at our table and patiently answered our menu questions and gave recommendations. This was a testament to her kindness and warmth as she could've easily been eager to end her shift and leave as it was 25 minutes prior to closing for the day. When ask about the special of the day, she provided an honest response, which was appreciated. Her recommendation of the fish was spot on. It tasted fresh and was prepared nicely. She checked on us multiple times and never seem rushed or hurried. The cook later came out after the closing sign was turned on and chatted with us. It was like we were local residence warmly welcomed on a routine visit. Enough can't be said about their staff - like Mayberry. Though the menu isn't broad, it is sufficient and has a variety of choices. A daily special, even on the weekend is a nice addition. The interior is small and definitely not modern with needed upgrades. This is the only negative of my visit. It is a diner, with few booths and few tables. The food is good and the service is outstanding. All places could learn from these servers how to treat people. Kudos to all of you. read more

We rolled into Buckboard Diner in Borden, Indiana, with the whole extended family to celebrate the mother-in-law's birthday -- because nothing says "party" like Fish Friday and a tiny diner packed to the brim! The menu was basically a seafood lover's dream team: fried fish, frog legs (yes, frog legs!), and clams were flying off plates faster than we could say "pass the tartar sauce." Everything was seriously tasty -- crispy, flavorful, and just the right amount of "I'm pretending to be fancy on a Friday night." The diner itself is cozy, like the kind of place where everyone knows your name... or at least your order. Our server was a rockstar, hustling like a ninja with a tray, making sure we never had an empty glass or a hungry stomach. Hats off to them for handling our wild crew with such patience and grace! If you're in Borden and craving some honest, no-frills seafood and great vibes, Buckboard Diner is the spot. When in Borden, your options are somewhat limited. There's this place and there's also...this place. But it's a fine restaurant. It's only for breakfast and lunch (until 2 PM) so don't expect to have a romantic dinner here. It's typical burgers, sandwiches, and salads. The price is right though. read more

This is my husband's favorite place for a Saturday lunch. Let's just start by saying it's nothing to look at - the outside of the building warns food snobs to stay away and warns robbers that a .45 is faster than 911 - but if you are brave enough to venture inside, you're in for a treat. We've only ever had lunch but I will update if I ever get there early enough to try their biscuits and gravy. I have a feeling they are exceptional. Everything is made fresh after you order - and served piping hot. This is a downhome diner with a simple burger menu - but the burgers are terrific. They remind me of The Dinner Bell burgers when I was a kid. There is also pie for dessert - if someone got up early enough to make it, and if not, the store bought cake isn't bad either. read more

A very quaint little diner located in Borden indiana They have a very casual atmosphere and some really good home cooked meals. The decor is truly country and the menu follows the theme. They always have a daily special so check the menu board to see what's cooking. It's not a real big restaurant so seating is limited. I chose the cold plate selection which includes your choice of four different tastes. I had the pasta the crab, the chicken salad and cole slaw. They come with cheese slices and pickles. They were all fresh and tasty. Majority of our party had the fried fish and everything must have been good, no plate was returned to the kitchen with uneaten food. Portions are large so splitting a dinner would be a good idea. They also offered some really good home made desserts..I had to pass because I picked off of several different plates! They serve Coca Cola products. The service was outstanding and our server was excellent. The place was packed but she did not miss a thing when serving us. If you take a ride in southern indiana this fall to watch the foliage changing, by all means stop by! It's a great experience! read more

Stopped in for lunch while doing work nearby, cute little place with friendly service. Food comes out in reasonable amount of time. The pulled pork sub was pretty good, definitely could use a meat rub or some type of seasoning on the meat, the sauce was good! House salad was large portion and very good. Fried cauliflower with their dill ranch came out fresh and hot. Burgers were great, came out hot made fresh, probably one of their best items. House made chips weren't very crisp and would be great with some seasoning! Not a bad little restaurant. read more

Patty melt with grilled onions on toasted buttery Texas toast was not greasy and actually very tasty. Crinkle fries are decent, corn on cob was the frozen niblet that got nuked to a thermal level, cooled off the tounge with really good sweet tea. Need to fix air, was quite toasty inside on a summer evening. Enter from side, at first glance drove by and thought it was closed. Maybe the only sit down in town, so worth a try. It was either The Buckboard or Subway and like I've said before I try to stay away from chains when possible but I made big mistake this time by not choosing Subway!! The place was full and they only had 1 server ( high school boy ) trying his best , food prices was very reasonable but everything tasted as if it was poured from a can , I had chicken and dumplings corn and mashed potatoes which came to $7 dirt cheap but I would have paid $15 for some seasoning and better service but it is a small town :( read more

This diner has a very friendly and family feel. I'll admit I have mainly only eaten here for breakfast and lunch on weekends. 2 thumbs up to the cook(s) who cook breakfast and lunch on Saturday and Sunday. Food is always hot when served and I have never left hungry. I have eaten at this diner for dinner but service and meal was not very good. Not much to review here pretty much the standard small town diner. Food is average. They do offer Pizza which is ok but has way to much cheese for my liking. Service is good and every one is friendly. I do wish they would upgrade the menu some it's the same thing all the time. read more
