When you pull up it's not a fancy place, but these places are the best to get a really good meal, and they delivered! I had the beef manhattan with fried okra and mashed potatoes. Unlike other places the beef actually tasted like it had been seasoned and slow cooked in a crockpot! There was something special about the potatoes also, maybe some garlic, but it was delicious! The okra was fresh cooked, not dipped out of a container of premade. The service was also really good. They took my order very quickly and the food was brought out hot and she checked up on me regularly. The restaurant "feels" like a local hotspot! Plenty of folks there, obviously a morning tradition, and it had a feel of being home or at your grandmas! I would absolutely recommend this place if you're in the area! read more

Small town diner. I had high hopes since my dad told me this place has been here for so long. The service was good and it is a very clean environment I got the Fresco melt and it had a little more onion than I expected... My dad got the beef Manhattan and he gave me some and it was decent. read more

Nice family style location for a meal. A lot of the food tastes homemade & the staff are friendly. The salads leave a little to be desired. They seem thrown together and often are missing an ingredient that you have to request. We love going to the place the locals would go & we had a couple people recommend this one to us. Given the rest of Salem is mostly fast food or assembly line type places, this is a nice change. read more

This place is OK. The dining options are limited in Salem, and this place is always busy (whereas the place across the street is always dead) so that tells you something. Lunch was dirt cheap. $8 for a chicken-fried steak, mashed potatoes, and a salad. That's hard to beat. read more

If you are wanting small town feel with great service and even better food. Here's where you need to go. Priced great and good sized portions. You can come in have a seat and enjoy your self or call in and get it to go. They also stood out during the lock down. I don't know how I would have made it with out them. read more

Not really impressed! I found not one... not two... but THREE hairs in my food! I'm sure there were many more but I stopped eating after I found the third hair in my mouth! There were two different types of batter on the fried pickles, one tasted like fish and the other tasted mediocre. I know this may come as a shocker but this is not my first bad experience here! Around a year ago I got chicken tenders here and I'm not sure if I can say they were worst I've ever had but they are definitely on my list. They were some of the soggiest and disgusting chicken tenders I have ever eaten. They also had a very fishy taste. This was NOT how I wanted to spend my Martin Luther king Jr. day!! I moved to Salem just a few days ago and was looking for a place for a great breakfast. We drove down and saw the parking lot was full (which is always a good sign for any restaurant) and we weren't disappointed. Ashley was very welcoming of me and my twin 8 year old boys (who make a little bit of a mess) and provided us with great service. Another bad experience. I said I would not come back to Nice's but my friends wanted to go. Waitress spilt orange juice on us right off the bat so we moved to a different table, same waitress. Our newspaper is ruined, my friends pink shirt is stained, and i have orange juice in my purse. Food was decent enough, hot and tasty (sharp contrast to the last time I went) but a bit slow. We go to pay and they dont offer any discount. So I ask if they can offer anything and replace the paper. She talks to the manager (I assume) and says theyll take the orange juices off. Still doesnt help the fact that we have to go home and change clothes and get a new paper and my friends pink shirt has a large orange stain on the front. So I ask if they can at least replace the paper. She goes back to the manager and offers $2 for the paper (we just bought it across the road, $3). To top it off she doesnt seem the least bit apologetic and we didnt get to actually see the manager. At least I didnt get more in my purse, if it had gotten all over my anything else I would've been pretty upset. Back to my original plan of not bothering with considering that place. read more

Great family atmosphere and great service for a reasonable price. I eat here at least once a week. Beets fast food hands down.

I got the beef Manhattan they microwaved it and it ended up looking like chocolate pudding instead of gravy, the waitstaff is nice, and the decor is dated. read more
