We showed up in San Ysidro and was greeted by the amazing "Ana" - if you go, please request her - she's so knowledgeable about the area and an absolute joy to be around all day. We walked across the border (super super easy) and met up with Alejandro (our driver). We stopped by a local taco spot followed by a trip down the coast. You get to see Rosarito and Ensenata before heading up in to the valle! We stopped at two wineries - one family owned (no one there except us) and the other was women owned - both were such a delightful, peaceful experience. The Wine? AH-MAZING!!!!!! Final stop - I won't ruin the end of the movie for you - but let's just say you won't be disappointed. Advice - you can get around with flip flops, etc. They recommend closed toe shoes but sandals (or your favorite wine tasting attire is perfect). Bring a light jacket just in case!

The drive down to Valle De Guadalupe was very scenic. i was surprised at the quality of wine in Mexico. I had low expectations but we enjoyed the wines and the wineries in Mexico are very generous with their pours. I would highly recommend this if you have someone visiting or if you want to get a group of friends together to celebrate . Violeta was very knowledgeable and friendly. They also can arrange private tours as well.

Kind service as well. Playami: Run by Border Psycho Brewing. Very kind and attentive staff that were willing to work with my malo Spanish. Great beer selection on tap and a cool indoor/outdoor area. There are also food and coffee options on site! Mexica Brewing: This small and charming brewery is owned and run by a pair of sisters that make great beer. Not far off Revolution Ave, it's worth the stop. Their honey porter is my favorite. Food options here too! Mamut Brewing: I had an amazing time chatting with one of the Brewers. All beers we tried were amazing. Their seasonal pumpkin was the best of that style I tried. Telefonica: Gastro food truck park. I had the best Pulpo (octopus) sandwich at Berracas Burger. It was not breaded and the taste was amazing. If you are nervous about visiting Tijuana, you have no reason to be with Derrick and Turista Libre. Their attention to detail and goal of really touring Mexico like a local was spot on. I will be booking this again for one of the many other adventures offered. For a great time, give this a try!

Well, the Valle de Guadalupe has some spots that are near as up scale as current Napa and Sonoma. But WAY off the beaten path and with the same kind of charm and passion that wine making seemed to have in the pioneering days of mid-century Northern California. Having been on lots of wine tours and tastings, it isn't often I find I learn a lot about wine making and its history. Chris, part owner of BTK, was our tour-guide and did a marvelous job of talking about the history of the valley, growing conditions, wine makers, local history that influenced wine making technology, etc. I found I learned a lot; in part because Chis is a very engaging story teller. The best part was the wine and the wine makers. We were VERY pleasantly surprised at the quality of the wines we tasted. Eleven wines total at two incredible wine making facilities, and every one a winner! Wish we could have taken home a lot more than we did. We had the good fortune of meeting the owners of Vena Cava, who clearly enjoy people and love their craft and the local industry they are building. The 2012 Reserve is easily one of the best wines I've ever had. And the winery is...well...unique, with a great story. Chris and Jen, thank you for a wonderful day. Apparently there's some sketchy areas nearby if you walk to Old Town through a very weird direction (you should actually cross the street and go through the underground passage). Location is convenient, the prices are SUPER affordable, and it's just overall nice and cozy. Complimentary breakfast was also nice and easy. Had a very pleasant stay and would likely stay here again the next time I'm in this part of San Diego!

The staff is always welcoming, the house keeping staff are friendly and trustworthy, the parking lot is gated and secured by a guard throughout the day, the rooms are always clean the grounds are well maintained, and after all the years of being loyal visitors, we have yet to experience anything negative at this property. I love that the grounds are secure and you can allow your children to go into the courtyard area and play the provided games with peace of mind- knowing that they'll be safe. They provide tons of outdoor seating options and grills for tenants, which makes cooking a breeze. In order to enter from the beach/boardwalk, you must have a room key to enter the premises- another awesome perk. This keeps all the riff-raft out of the area. &At night, they also require a room key to enter through the front of the building- which is a newer feature, and much appreciated. You can leave your beach toys & chairs outside your room without worrying about someone coming to steal it. We have locked our bikes up downstairs in the courtyard area & nobody messes with them. This is such a great place to stay & an amazing tradition that our family has. We look forward to our visit every May!

Del Mar Beach Hotel

It's hard to imagine a better location for a hotel in Del Mar. It was right on the beach as…read moreadvertised, tons of active beach goers, surfers, dog walkers, joggers, teens at lifeguard school, you name it -- all sorts of active lifestyles without it feeling too crowded. The parking lot isn't huge so the first night we had to park in the metered lot next door, but they reimburse you for any parking fees. I was however able to find parking the next two days. They even gave me a courtesy call saying they noticed my car in the other lot and to remind me to move it by a specific time. I had already set my alarm to move it, but that was nice. The lobby has free coffee/ espresso machine and a dispenser for purified water. They provide beach towels and efficient room service. The rooms themselves are pretty comfortable, but we had someone above us that walked back and forth non stop which was a bit annoying. I mean it's just one room and a bathroom how much walking do you need to do lol. When you go out your door, you just walk a down the little walkway to the beach. Everyone is barefoot it's so close. They have little areas to rinse off your feet and also a brush hanging outside your door handle to brush the excess sand off, cute touch. The beach viewing lounge area (pictured) is nice, people hang out there and drink their coffee or work on their laptops. I had one suggestion, and that would be to build a platform deck for the back seats, because it would give them an unobstructed view. As it is now, the wall blocks some of your view, but putting a platform deck would solve that and be relatively inexpensive to do. So since they were taking me for dinner at nearby Jake's, my girlfriend offered me the empty room for the night so I didn't have to drive in the dark and also enjoy a beautiful morning doing my 10,000 steps while simultaneously meditating and recording an episode of my podcast in Spanish. I loved the room super spacious and with everything I needed (even if the coffee machine did not work for me). Being right there by the beach was a total treat. I feel loved by my friends, especially since I have not been out of San Diego since past September for budget reasons doing multiple jobs at the time. So I appreciate this generosity and being at Del Mar Beach hotel as it is one of my favorite beaches and brings so much joy. The decor in the small lobby is very surfer, cool vibe. Similar inside the room. The restaurant does not have restaurant for breakfast but they offer free coffee and you can buy simple sweets (although there are plenty of options to eat nearby). Parking at the back of the hotel, no problem finding a spot and it is validated. Awesome experience, chill people, glorious sunsets from there!

We chose to pay for on-site parking, and I highly recommend it. Parking in Pacific Beach can be challenging, so having a guaranteed parking spot made our trip completely stress-free. We originally booked a partial ocean view room, but to our surprise, the front desk upgraded us to a full oceanfront room at no charge! They explained that they randomly select a few guests each day for complimentary perks such as room upgrades, free parking, or late checkout. We felt so lucky and truly appreciated the thoughtful gesture. The rooms have been beautifully renovated and are modern, clean, and very comfortable. The air conditioning worked great, the refrigerator was convenient, and everything felt fresh and well maintained. It's the perfect boutique beach hotel with an upscale feel while still being relaxed and comfortable. Overall, this hotel exceeded our expectations in every way. Between the outstanding customer service, unbeatable location, beautiful renovated rooms, and unexpected upgrade, this was one of our favorite hotel stays in San Diego. We will absolutely be back!

Don't worry though, they'll call you on your third day to tell you that parking has miraculously opened up because they failed to sell out on their website. The room itself? Think "tiny house" but without the charm. It's so small that turning around feels like a game of Twister, and every surface seems to have been weaponized with sharp corners. A relaxing beach retreat shouldn't require a first-aid kit. Then there's the humidity...the kind that makes your clothes feel like they went swimming without you. The air inside the room is basically ocean soup, and everything smells faintly of wet flip-flops. Be prepared to wash every piece of your clothing, whether or not you wore it on vacation. The bathroom features a stylish sliding barn door, which is a great design choice if you've always wanted to share your most private moments with your travel companion. Hope you're close, or at least on speaking terms after this trip. The staff: Let's just say they operate on "beach time," except it's the kind of beach where no one wants to help you. Friendly enthusiasm must've checked out before we arrived. However, Housekeeping was great. Sure, it's near the beach, but so is a lifeguard tower, and you might get more space and hospitality there.

Do NOT use this miserable scam of a company. Border Tours is fraudulently stealing money from paying customers. I paid for a tour, drove hours to the meeting spot, and the tour operator NEVER showed up. I called the tour operator and company I booked them through and was unable to reach them. Waited at the meeting location for hours and the entire day was ruined. After filing several complaints with involved parties, this tour operator proceeded to fraudulently lie about the situation. The tour operator first informed the travel company that they had proof that they were at the meeting location. They said they had a photo of a "man in a mask" and that they were at the location. They said they had screenshots of phone calls and texts sent to me. All of this were lies. A few days later, they changed their story, claiming how they were UNABLE to reach me because I had booked the tour through a different company and they weren't provided with my information. This is a complete 180 from their first story. Apparently they had changed the meeting location and did not inform me. I believe they were too lazy to cross the border as border crossing times were around 1.5 hours. Due to their laziness and unprofessionalism, they probably changed the meeting location from the US side to Mexico side; or they never bothered to show up and just wanted to pocket the money anyway. In the end, this company STOLE money for a service they never provided. I would advise everyone to AVOID this company. This company is SCAMMING customers. Border Tours is DISHONEST and intentionally defrauding customers by never showing up to provide the service and even worse, LYING and DECEIVING the travel agencies you book this service through. Do NOT use Border Tours. STAY AWAY!!! read more

I honestly cannot imagine our trip going any better than it did, and a *huge* part was thanks to Tony from Baja Wine Tours. I could go on and on regarding all of the tiny and not so tiny details that contributed to our incredible weekend, but I'd rather highlight just a few that really stood out: 1. Individualization and Customization- Tony worked closely with my friends to capture the perfect trip for us, which meant a healthy amount of booze and incredible food. He presented options and was completely flexible both prior to and during the trip. I have no question that i will be revisiting several of these spots with the hubby in the future. 2. Ease with Large Group- We were travelling with a crew of 10 which can pose challenges with places to stay, settling tabs, travelling, etc. Tony helped us find the perfect place to stay with separate rooms and plenty of space and picked us up and drove us to all sites. The best part was that he assisted with handling the tab at most of the restaurants and wineries and then provided a total at the end for everyone to contribute towards, Except for me, which was my personal favorite part. :) 3. Border Crossing- Tony picked us all up at my home on Thursday morning and loaded up the vehicle with all of our luggage like an absolute pro. We were immediately comfortable with him as he came off as friendly and outgoing, however also very professional and trustworthy. We only grew to love him more throughout the trip, and the crossing back into the US on Saturday night was one of the easiest that I have experienced in all of my trips to Mexico over the years. I cannot express how much I recommend working with Tony and the rest of the team at Baja Wine Tours to experience Via de Guadalupe. We can't wait to go back!

Tony and Nick take you on an incredible adventure exploring some of the most boutique and gorgeous wineries that VDG has to offer. Taking a van into the Valley, Nick and Tony give you a good perspective on what to expect and even pack some beverages for the group. They ensure all guests' needs are met without seeming to herd cats. (which is sometimes the case with the larger tour companies). You can really tell that Tony has built a report with the owners which leads to an even more warm and inviting atmosphere. The best part of the day (besides the wine) is the amazing dinner everyone enjoys together in the lobster village of Puerto Nuevo. Nothing like steak and lobster after a long day of drinking the best wines I've ever had. I could not be more happy with our adventures and I look forward to joining them again soon.

From the moment we were picked up by Jose to the last drop off at the border, we were able to visit most of the wineries, three of the best restaurants in the Valley with a great stay at a great Boutique Hotel located in the middle of the vineyards. Last stop of course, was our drop off right at the border by Jose. Jose was "part of the group" of 8 of us as he helped us navigate to the different stops, we obviously spent a great amount of time in the roomy van he drove around for 2 days. Very friendly and helpful, we could not help to feel he was part of us. We even invited him to have our Saturday night dinner with us instead of just waiting with us until dinner was over. The greatest part of this whole experience is that Jose took several pictures of us at the different tasting rooms, overlooking the scenery over the roadside ocean stops and backgrounds of the vast mountains and vineyards, so many pictures we would not have gotten as a group ourselves when the time was right. We are supposed to have a link to go to as soon as these pictures are collaborated together to keep these great weekend memories alive. Experience of navigating the region is a big part of what a tour company should be GREAT at, and although Jose did a great job, there were situations where we could of shortened our travel times by him being more familiar with the area, knowing more of the different places we did NOT know to go to, being more proactive to add to get the trip by taking us there. It is all years of experience and I am sure that had a lot to do with it, so a lot of room to grow there. All in all Jose made this trip easy to relax and enjoy. He was always there for us and even held our wines we purchased overnight in the van until the next day so we did not have to carry them into the hotel and back. Thank you Vinos de Baja Tours and especially Jose for really helping make our experience to memorable. We will be looking forward to seeing the great pictures of Valle del Guadalupe and of course the good looking group we had.

Alan, who owns this company, immediately responded to my inquiry about a cost estimate for a round trip pick up and drop off from Chula Vista to the TJ airport. The price was very reasonable and at first I was hesitant to book since I could not find reviews online but reading his website I made the decision to book with him and I'm glad I did! Alan picked me up promptly and even agreed to pick up my family at another location nearby. I found out that he lives in TJ with his family so he knows the area well and that he has been taking people not only to the airport in TJ but also drive people (including some businessmen) around the city and beyond (Ensanada, Rosarito, etc) I paid him half when he dropped us off at the airport and then the rest when he dropped us home after we came back from our trip. I would definitely book another service with him the next time I fly from Tijuana or even a day trip to the southern part of Baja California.

But in this case Alan, the owner, left four of us stranded at TIJ airport Sunday, Dec. 5 @ 7:30pm with no phone calls or messages alerting me of a problem, and I had pre-paid in advance with Paypal as he insisted! He was late by 35 minutes picking us up in San Ysidro for the transfer to TIJ airport on our outbound flight a week earlier, which could have, but didn't tip me off yet to his false promise of service. Do NOT trust him or his service the way we did unless you prefer lip service to real service. I have still NOT received a phone call or message, apologizing or explaining what went wrong...even a lame excuse would have been better than none. There was NO MISCOMMUNICATION with pick-up day or time on our return either. I sent two emails which he confirmed weeks earlier, talked with him about it on the ride to TIJ and a third email while in Mexico reminding him of the pick-up on Sunday. Needles to say, for the first visit to Tijuana Airport and arriving at night to get abandoned by your transfer company turned out to be a harrowing experience for my wife, her older sister (age 60), brother-in-law (age 65) and myself. From transfer across the border to hoofing it on foot with all our luggage was not a pretty sight. Stay CLEAR OF THIS GUY AND HIS COMPANY!! He talks a good line but does not deliver.

Karen and Andres not only try every place to ensure its quality before taking their guests there, but they are also locals to the area. They know just about every restaurant and winery like they own them! Both are very knowledgable of the history of the area, so as you drive along the coast or through the mountains and valley you can ask them anything and they can tell you its background story. It seemed as if they knew what our tastes were and knew exactly where to take us. Karen was prepared with snacks when people were hungry and blankets and pillows when people were ready to take a power nap. They also took photos of everyone during the tour! How awesome is that? You can just enjoy the moment and not have to worry about keeping up with your camera! Aha Baja Wine Tours really took care of us like we were their family.
