My youth son and I were in town and ordered takeout this evening. These folks (from the person who took my order over the phone to the person who handed us the food) were remarkably kind, professional, and welcoming when they did not need to go so "over the top." The food (chicken supreme) was perfectly cooked and (fettuccini Alfredo) which my 9 year old son said was "the most delicious food he has ever eaten." True story. Haha. Thank you. read more

We were craving seafood so everything we ordered was seafood For mains, we had the mussels and the octopus. The octopus was good, but felt like it was slightly over cooked for my liking but the flavours were there. The mussels were tasty with the tomato broth. For the mains, we went for the Spigola e Gameroni (sea bass) and Linguine Mare. We felt as if the Linguine Mare had the same tomato taste as the mussels and if that was the case, hoped that our waiter would tell us it's similar and recommend something different. The bf and I decided to check the place out based on a recommendation from a friend. First off, this place does pasta right. They use traditional Italian recipes that taste absolutely delicious - the right mix between homey Italian and great restaurant food. I'd say that it's a great date night restaurant - it's classy but fairly casual dress. You have the option to sit on the patio (great for summer nights,) or inside where it's a little quieter. We decided to skip out on appetizers and go straight for the main course. While we waited, our waiter brought us some bread and the most amazing chickpea dip (almost like hummus texture.) The bread was so light and delicious I could have inhaled the entire bag, however I really had to restrain myself in order to save room for the main course. I had the linguine mare - a seafood linguine with snow crab, mussels, shrimp, octopus, clams, grape tomatoes and fresh pasta made in house. It comes in at a pricey $28, but it comes packed with delicious seafood! The noodles were perfectly al dente. The bf had the spaghetti bolognese that had the most wonderful sauce, and I can safely say we were stealing from each others plates during the night. I got the funghi pizza and it comprised of very minimal mushrooms and cheese- only. It was surprisingly sparse and not tasty- for $28. My friend got the margherita. It had cheese and tomato sauce- only. This is what I might accept an at American restaurant at the side of a hwy in rural Ohio. I've never been more surprised at an Italian restaurant before. There are a number of very good Italian food options in Oakville and Borgo Antico is definitely one of those restaurants. The restaurant is located just at the end of the main shopping strip in downtown Oakville so it makes it a very family friendly place to eat and spend time on a nice evening. I came here for my birthday with my Mother and I had a seafood pasta that was cooked to perfection and beautifully presented. My Mother also had an amazing veal which was just the most perfect texture - she's very pick so this was an outstanding review for her. Now, when it comes to the wine, who is going to come to an Italian restaurant and not have a glass? Basically no one over legal drinking age. That said, I agree with Zara. C's comments on the wine selection: ambitious but too far reaching. A 5oz was all around $16 and 9oz all above $20. I think taking down all of the wine by the glass prices by $5 across the board would make things significantly more reasonable. I had to take off one star because I felt that the price of the wine pairings are actually quite restrictive of completing your meal. read more

Delicious food, simple menu, very nice service and owner, cute patio on lakeshore and nice room inside suitable for groups. Classic Italian restaurant that offers all kinds of pasta, antipasti and salads as well as some delicious charcuterie and fine cocktails. I highly recommend to try the endive salad as an appetizer and the simple spaghetti with tomato sauce as an entree. You can also share the cheese and crudo plate with two or more people. read more

The most amazing Italian restaurant I've been outside of Italy. We stumbled upon this place while strolling around downtown Oakville, saw that the restaurant was quite full so decided to give it a try. We ordered the pappardelle funghi and the linguine mare, and when the grandpa came to serve the pasta he said "best pappardelle you'll ever have".....and he was right!! The porcini mushrooms were so flavourful and taste is bang on. The linguine mare was great too. We also had the calamari appetizer which was generous in proportions and lightly battered with home made aioli. The free bread and chickpea dip, oh the chickpea dip! Soooo good. Lastly, the service was amazing. We had a stroller with us, which they were able to accommodate and gave us a fairly private area so we can breastfeed too. Amazing. Each pasta dish will leave you yearning for more. All the noodles have an incredible texture and you can taste the quality of the hand made art. Gnocchi was pillowy soft. Perfectly seasoned. I want to love this restaurant. The Italian food was great, the service excellent but newly-opened Borgo Antico needs some fixes to make me want to return. With this lovely location, it would be worth investing in textile baffles, soft wall panels and furnishings to improve the acoustics. We had to converse in really loud voices to overcome noise echoing around the space. While we were happy with the food, which was nicely prepared, and fairly priced, the wine list was too ambitious. Many wines, but very few that were moderately priced. Some wine options in the more reasonable price range would be appreciated. read more

OVERCHARGED 3 times and still NO REFUND I'll be happy to change my review once Borgo Antico Management keeps their word on their refund and promise. Here's the scoop: My friend and I had a mini-reunion on Thursday, December 7, 2017 at this restaurant. We asked the owner how much the fish was. He answered $34. That evening, we shared the octopus appetizer and ordered a $34 fish each. After the meal, the owner came by our table to process our payments separately. He read my total out loud on the bill but added $10 more on the terminal. When he handed me the terminal, the screen only showed the gratuity portion which I happily pressed 15% at the time. I returned to the restaurant later that night to discuss the overcharged amount. He did not refund me the amount and charge me the new total, but altered the price on his iPad and printed me a new receipt. He took my original receipt and wrote VOID across it. After I took the toll route home, I checked the credit card online and it read PENDING. On Sunday December 17, 2017, I was informed that the overcharged dinner bill went through on my credit card of $73.23. Within the elapsed time of 10 days, my dinner guest confided in me that the owner overcharged him for his fish. I double checked my dinner bill and I discovered the owner overcharged me for my fish too! Initially, I thought this was an honest mistake. I sent an email to the owner. I added that I looked forward to a memorable night, but after realizing we were overcharged three times, "we left with regret in our hearts". I received an email the same week with an apology. However, he mansplained that we didn't hear him correctly about the price of the fish and it was another "honest mistake". I am keeping an open mind and an open heart about these mounting "honest mistakes". However, I am beginning to wonder if other people have been taken advantage by his "honest mistakes" as more time passes. read more

THE WORST DINING EXPERIENCE OF MY ENTIRE LIFE. WAS SO BAD THAT I'M GOING OUT OF MY WAY TO WRITE AN ONLINE REVIEW. Short Version: Appalling, offensive and unsympathetic management. One of the owners had the AUDACITY to bring up our RACE while trying to defend himself and settle the issue. IN THREE HOURS, we only received appetizers. Served us inedible entrees. Desperate need of quality control in the kitchen. Ruined my sister's wedding dinner. See below for shitshow and list of their fuck-ups: We reserved the private room at Borgo Antico a month prior. We didn't know that it was the same day as the midnight madness festival and so it was very busy. They didn't increase their staff to serve their seated customers, even though they knew they would be busy simultaneously serving food for the street festival. During our time there, we saw several tables walk out and several others return plates of food to the kitchen. 1. We all arrived at 6pm. Appetizers were served shortly after. Didn't get our orders taken until an HOUR later. 2. Over an HOUR after taking our orders we decide to ask for the ETA of meals. We were told that they were just starting it. They basically started cooking our meals only because we reminded them. 3. Meanwhile, during all this time, we see servers bringing large quantities of food out to the festival. Their first priority was serving the street festival and not their seated customers. 4. THREE HOURS IN - at this point we are all starving. The two children and one senior with us needed to eat so we asked that they at least bring their orders out first (a Chicken and two pasta entrees). Their food looked great. The first chicken entree to come out (the kid's) was a quarter leg, but the other two same chicken entrees that came out were less than 1/3 the size of the kid's entree. Also, these last chicken entrees came out at least 30 mins after the kids'. 5. One of the six lamb entrees was COMPLETELY INEDIBLE. Lamb pieces were burnt to the crisp and some were completely raw. The chef or line chefs at the back thought we were stupid and turned over the completely burnt piece of lamb, thinking we wouldn't notice. At this point no one wanted to eat anymore. The bride didn't even eat she was so disappointed when her meal came out. 6. Despite the complaining and being there for OVER THREE HOURS, not once did the owners or manager greet us or see if we were okay. When renting a private room, someone from upper management should ALWAYS introduce themselves to the dinner party or the party's organizer at least once. I have had to reserve private dining rooms for work many times before and can say that this is customary to excellent customer service. 7. We asked the bartender if we could speak to one of the owners and she LIED and said he wasn't here. We knew it was a lie because we spoke to him in person when making the reservations. At that moment, he was in fact, standing at the end of the bar. He was avoiding us, although I am sure he knew that we had complained to our server several times. 8. While speaking to one of the co-owners in an effort to express our thoughts and find a resolution, he had the nerve to bring up our background. AS IF THIS HAS ANYTHING TO DO WITH THE SITUATION AT HAND. We are a visible minority obviously not of European-descent and he asked us about our background to defend himself and say that this is what Italian food is. The dinner party has been to Italy many times and we know that this is NOT the quality of good Italian food and service. We asked him repeatedly what our background has anything to do with the situation and he couldn't answer us. I can at least say that despite the shitty experience and management, our server tried his best and truly seemed to care about our experience. read more

A great addition to Downtown Oakville. My husband and I went here for dinner and loved it. The owners are super friendly and helpful. Food was DELISH! We had fried calamari and shrimp as an app- the calamari was so meaty we loved it and ordered a second order of that! Our dinner took a bit longer to prepare I assume it was being cooked super fresh! The veal shanks were absolutely amazing. They were super tender. Seafood risotto was also great, generous with the seafood they put in it. Borgo Antico was the worst dining experience I've had in years. Last night, I took my wife here for our wedding anniversary. This was a rare night out for us, as we had to book a babysitter for our four-month old son. Our reservation was for 7:30. We waited several minutes before a staff member even greeted us. In retrospect, this was a sign of things to come. We ordered at around 7:45. Two of three items we wanted were unavailable. Then, the waiting began. During this time, our server might as well have been in another dimension. He never came by to refill our water, ask if we needed anything, or give us an ETA on the food. At one point he came by to bus food for the table next to us, and when we tried to get his attention to ask about the food, he fled like bank robber. After over an hour of waiting, our appetizer arrived at around 8:50. We ordered Parmesan encrusted zucchini, which the menu made sound very indulgent and fancy. What we received was Food Court-quality veggie tempura. This was about as good as something a cheap sushi joint would have included in a Bento Box. Not exactly fine dining. By 9:00, my wife and I decided to give up and go somewhere else. Our server having apparently fled, I got up from my table and spoke to another server to cancel our orders. The server was apologetic but, to my surprise, didn't offer to comp anything. My wife and I had two glasses of wine each and a single appetizer that we split. All this somehow came to $81, a preposterously expensive sum for basically nothing. I will never go back to Borgo Antico. read more

It is a gem of a restaurant. Was not impressed when we walked in, decor was not that great. But things got much better through the night. The brussell sprout that they offer was amazing, taking away the bitter taste with some refreshing flavor. The seafood pasta is amazingly done, with a generous amount of seafood. Love love love this place! My husband and I went for dinner several times since they opened several months ago. Each and every time we have gone there, we have not been disappointed. The owner came up to us and asked how everything was and even remembered our names! The waiter was attentive and really seemed to care about how our evening was going. A cosy Italian restaurant in the heart of Downtown Oakville, short stroll to the Lake. The Menu is not vast but balanced, good selection of wine, and Cocktails. Service is fast and efficient, on a negative side only that the restaurant is located in an old building and can get hot and/or stuffy inside when it is busy, otherwise it is great spot to go if you are craving for a nice Italian food. Price wise it is in the middle, so around $60-$70 per person with a glass of wine. read more

A perfect dining experience from start to finish. This really is authentic Italian dining from the food down to the service. My wife and I both had the cod special. Done perfectly! I think most of the wait staff were right from Italy. Fantastic veal meatball and salad starters. Excellent service too... attentive but not pushy. Even at peak time we did not feel rushed after we finished our meal whatsoever, which is a huge pet peeve of mine. Great wine selection as well. We were both in a food coma by the end. Only possible downside is that it is somewhat noisy at peak time but we did not mind at all as it just added t the ambiance and fun. Perfect 10 in our books and we can't wait to go back. read more

This is authentic Italian cuisine. This is not an Italian chain restaurant with food covered in sauces. Presentation is beautiful and the food is amazing. They may be downtown Oakville but as you savour their exquisite food you feel like you are somewhere in Italy. The brothers and cousin have added a small corner of true Italian cuisine in Oakville.
