The food here is incredible. The dishes are all flavourful and the portions are great. Gluten free? Come on in! Invited for dinner to Il Fornello and trying to be gluten-free presented a dilemma. Was it to be a dinner without food at a place that served pizza and pasta. I had not been to an Italian restaurant since I was put on a gluten free diet. But surprise! The superhelpful masked (still the pandemic, remember?) waitress, when asked a stupid question "Is there anything here that is gluten-free?" did not bat her long eyelashes. Not only could any pizza be made on a gluten free crust but many of the pasta dishes could be made with a gluten-free dough. The pasta with gorgonzola cream sauce with chicken was delicious and proved to me that a gluten-proof life was, once again, worth living. The patio was nice but the only problem is that it is next to a creeks so bugs were an issue. Appetizer. - mussels in marinara sauce. Good but not spectacular.. sauce was standard.but good Entrees- We ordered the Tagliatelle Fungi and the Linguine de Mari. Both were standard past a fare small but hearty. Good food and fast service. This was my first visit to This location. On entering, the staff was courteous and I was able to find food that I could eat. There is a blazing pizza oven in the background and beautiful tables and chairs and beautifully done walls and floors. I with that I had more time to work there. I had to grab a soup and run to a meeting. I had the squash soup. It was excellent. Nice balance of salt and fat sprinkled with some lightly candies pecans. The soup was served hot, and I asked if I could have a spoon to eat it with. They made sure that I would be able to enjoy this before my meeting. I'll have to return the spoon when I am back in Oakville. The nice thing about Il Fornello is that there is always a great selection of food available whether you eat traditional, gluten free, vegetarian, and now at several locations vegan as well. It's a fine experience and I am rarely disappointed at an Il Fornello restaurant. A great place for a meeting or a date. Next time we'll have the meeting there instead. read more

Went here for a Thursday dinner. When I walked in, we were promptly greeted by our server and were seated. Note: we called ahead first and booked a reservation. We were told that we had a limit of 90 minutes. First thing I noticed was that they had glass dividers between some of the seating (especially those who shared the wooden wall between us). I also noticed the beautiful, beautiful, clay oven. Our server (I forgot her name unfortunately), asked us what we wanted & we placed our order. We ordered Ruffio white wine and it was a great complement to what we were eating. Our server wasn't over attentive or too distant, she knew exactly when to come to our table and was excited and happy to be serving us. She had a wonderful personality, and it contributed to the already aesthetically pleasing dining experience. Parking is ample, and a great location. read more

From the outside this place looks like a very casual restaurant but once you get inside there is a nice atmosphere going on. My friend and I made reservations for 8:15pm and our table was ready right away. They had a bunch of things I wanted to try in the appetizers section but we really wanted only pasta this time. Service was great, our server was very prompt in getting us drinks and giving us time to look at the menu. My friend ended up getting the gnocchi with mozzarella, cherry tomatoes, zucchini, pomodoro sauce and basil. I got the tagliatelle bolognese with a braised beef and pork tomato sauce which was pretty tasty but wow my friend's gnocchi was amazing. It was cooked very well and had great flavour. Solid pizza definitely worth the wait. We ordered both the Daviola and Salsiccia. Crusts were thin and held the sauce, cheese and toppings nicely. The caramelized onions and roasted red peppers on the salsiccia were an outstanding combination. Our Daviola was as good with fresh basil garnish that really made it stand out. Ordered through Ubereats - part of the meal was advertised as full meal-sized salads - cost ovet $30 - and from the pictures you can see what arrived - wouldn t even qualify as a side salad. I haven't been to an Il Fornello in ages and we decided to go as a family. I had the Pollo Arrosoto, which is the half chicken on a bed of potatoes and carrots. The chicken was very tender and robust with flavour. I accompanied my dish with a glass of San Vincenzo which has notes of citrus and pear. To top it off I had the tiramisu, which I found to be "okay" as it didn't impress me that much. The atmosphere is nice. The service was good. The food was sub-par. I had the gnocchi and my partner had some steak pasta dish. Not sure what it was called. We started with a salad. It had golden beats, parsnip, arugula and pecans. This was actually very good and I almost wish I had just ordered two of these for my main course. My gnocchi was awful. The sauce was so salty, I was literally scraping the sauce off the gnocchi. The gnocchi itself was alright, but the amount of garlic and salt made me wonder if she had sprinkled a tablespoon of garlic salt on it, instead of Parmesan. I ate about half of the gnocchi, and almost none of the sauce. My partner is a sweetheart and almost never complains. It wasn't until we were on the way home he said he wasn't feeling so great. He had brought leftovers home and after he went to bed I felt like I needed a little snack. I took one bite and I cringed. I don't even know what to say. The shell pasta was under cooked. And I don't mean al dante. I mean it was a little on the crunchy side. I'm not sure what was up with the beef and sauce. Somehow this beef dish tasted like an under-cooked tuna casserole! Wtf?? It went into the trash can immediately. It's a shame because the place seems nice and the server was very friendly. I wouldn't recommend this place. read more

Consider this 3 1/2 stars! We popped in at 10:00 pm on a Friday, and the staff were lovely enough to seat us (despite the fact that they were obviously about to close). Our server was very helpful and kind to us. Around the table we had 2 pizzas, a pasta and for myself, grilled octopus and the salmon. - Both pizzas were flavourful, and atop a tasty, thin crust. ***1/2 stars! - The pasta was seasoned with thyme, garlic, etc and was delicious. **** stars! - My grilled octopus was perfectly blackened. The olives and spicy tomato chunks added great flavour. **** stars! - The Salmon (comes with spinach and roast potatoes) was simple but tasty. The portions are just right and I was very satisfied. ***1/2 stars! This is, first and foremost, an Italian spot, so I would recommend against the salmon (or anything else basic) in favour of something that's more authentic. The pizzas are lovely, and the pasta is always tasty. That grilled octopus is what I'll be coming back for, though. The reason for 3 1/2 stars versus 4 is that the place is sadly "unforgettable." Their food is good, but it needs to be INCREDIBLE to make this a must-go. Needs a little update inside as well. read more

We have been coming here off and on for years, in fact we have been eating at Fornello since they opened their first spot at Bloor and Bathurst eons ago. The times that the meal has been a five (like tonight) we have come back again quickly. But there been times over the the last fifteen years when we have backed off entirely because of two or three mediocre experiences in a row. Tonight was a busy Sunday so there was every reason to undercook (the most common past problem) in order to get meals plated but not this time. Salads, pizzas and pasta were all as good as you have any right to expect at this price. Simply said, it's all about the chefs and right now they are dynamite! read more

I've been here a few times now thinking maybe this time it will be better but it continues to be just okay. I wouldn't really say it's kid friendly as aside from high chairs there's nothing I saw that caters to kids. I've seen other places have paper straws or plastic cups/utensils. I ordered the ceasar salad and if you like it loaded with salad dressing this would have been the salad of your dreams. Otherwise order it with the dressing on the side. I also ordered the gnocchi which was good. Weird thing though is that they served my salad and gnocchi at the same time? It's good food and okay service but nothing memorable. read more

While the food is good and I have frequented the restaurant numerous times over the years, my recent experiences has made me decide to strike them off my list. My last two experiences I used Urber eats. Both times the order was incomplete. When I called the restaurant , they immediately blamed the driver.....he didn't pick up the full order. Today again, ( I now check before the driver leaves) my Caesar salad was missing. The Uber driver says, that was all he was given and I should call the restaurant. He left saying they will probably call another driver to deliver the salad. It was obviously not his issue. The restaurant manager immediately told me the driver didn't pick up the full order and I should call UberEats and they will deal with it for me.......I challenged him about his responsibility, to ensure the driver picks up the full order and his responsibility for me the customer for not getting by order. He kept repeating as I order through Uber I must deal with them. I may deal with UberEats as I usually get satisfaction from them , this driver was a poor exception but I will not ever deal with this restaurant again, until they start putting people who take accountability, in manager positions. It has been quite awhile since I eat in, in this restaurant , but I will assume with current management the service is probably poor as well and I will not give them an opportunity to prove me right.
