I used Borman now and then over the years. This last time Did not inspire confidence, and the attitude wasn't great either. I had my vehicle towed there. The engine vibrated, trouble starting, and check engine light was on. It started up again over there, and they couldn't find anything wrong with it. I went to Autozone and plugged in their FREE fix finder, only to find out it was a faulty spark plug and ignition coil. Didn't take me long to realize what a common issue this is. Borman used to be good to me, but these guys were baffled by something that should be so obvious to any mechanic: it simply needed a tune-up. On top of that, the mechanic there snapped at me as if I'd interrupted his day when I went to pick my vehicle up. Quite a lot of attitude for a guy who doesn't know what the **** he's doing. BEST. AUTO SHOP. HANDS-DOWN!!! Service was quick, efficient, and reasonable. Moved here about a year ago and everyone has their favorite places, but this is ours. Used to take our 98 Chevy truck to L & M and no longer will. Our truck has been having issues starting after the long haul on the Al-can. Put in an engine block heater, then an alternator, and then brakes needed replaced, then new shocks, seemed it was always something new L&M told us, and figured since the truck is older and has a lot of miles, sure this all needs replaced. But after putting in $2K in a truck that may not be worth it got us searching for a new place and now we have found our one-stop-shop. We were having starting issues again and thought this time it was the starter, but after a thorough exam from these guys they said it was the distributer. Had our truck towed to the place and within the SAME DAY had it purring again under $400!! Very pleased and would recommend to anyone. read more

Mr. Borman is a stand-up guy who knows cars and trucks. My son was sort of stranded in Alaska, working a summer job and need major work done to his Jeep. Borman at first was going to work with a motor we were having shipped to Anchorage but when he received it, he let me, and the company I had the motor shipped from that it would not work. All parties agreed and Borman luckily got us a line on another replacement engine. His team put that in and the Jeep is running better than ever. He stayed in close contact and had the work done quickly so my son could get on his way before Old Man Winter changed everyone's plans. Mr. Borman is old-school Alaska, something you don't run into very often anymore. He diagnosed my vehicle as a drop-in, ordered up the part which was delivered shortly after, then put the new part in and didn't charge me, all while my 3 grandchildren waited in the car! Now i'm not saying that's something he could do every day, or for everyone, but he did it for me and i am truly grateful for his kindness. My sister and brother-in-law have taken their vehicles to Borman's for years and i can see why. I highly recommend! We were given a free estimate on a Sunday morning and our truck was fixed and running perfectly by Sunday afternoon. He was very friendly and the price was very reasonable. The other auto repair shops we checked out would have costed hundreds more and would have taken 2-3 days to fix. Bormans is the place to go for auto repair!! read more

DO NOT BRING YOUR VEHICLE TO BORMAN!! PLACE IS A JOKE! If I could, I would give this janky, very unprofessional, dishonest, and careless business 0 stars! Dropped off my truck to get the traction control and anti lock brakes fixed (main reason.) decided while he had it we'd have him fix a couple minor issues with it. A couple weeks later... and we still had gotten no kind of courtesy call. So we called only to find out that he needed some parts to fix the door panel. My bf drove to junk yard and got the parts Borman claimed he needed.. well a week later we find out... WRONG PARTS! It took a week to figure that out? So about a month later we still get NO call, nothing. So we call n he claims he ain't got any workers that want to show up to work... that the heat went out..that the truck door was blocked with something..(not our problem) a courtesy call would've been nice once again.. but apparently they have ZERO concern for the customers life's or needs to get to work, School, or any other important thing one might have to do. So after being told three days in a row that the truck was ready, going there to pick it up,and having it in fact not be ready, I was about at my wits end with this place and I think Borman sensed that. Then he tells us the truck is ready so we go again to pick it up I start the truck,and low and behold... the traction control and the anti lock brakes have not been fixed. He "totally spaced it" Borman claimed. So one more day he said. Finalllllly we get the call. Get to his shop, and to no surprise at all the gas light is on and it's puttering. I hop in it real quick hoping it'll make it to the gas station down the road. NOPE! Dies in the round-about 30 seconds later. After getting an angry call, Borman sends his worker with a gas can. Well for whatever reason, even after putting In The gas, the truck won't start. AAAANNNNDDDD turns out there is ANOTHER thing they forgot to do. So back to him it goes! Oh what joy it's been relying on a very unreliable, heartless, joke of business! So once he's done with this...I will NEVER EVER again bring my vehicle to him. And I would suggest if u want a professional job done right the first time and with no problems... Borman Auto is NOT the place for you! Honestly it's a JOKE that he even has this many stars!!! Oh and when I called him to let him know that his business is janky, he told me "f*ck you." Sweet old man... smh spare urself the hassles and the running around for no reason at all. Brought our car in July for a engine rebuild after breaking down unexpectedly. They were very helpful at first and kept up with communicating with us as to when the car would be finished, well after numerous phone calls to Mike, $4,000 and four months later we finally get a call saying it was finished. Paid for it and on our next oil change the guys at Jiffy said we had engine leaks. Why it took so darn long we are not sure but paying that much when we could have went somewhere else for half the time and half the cost was a waste of money. I am never going back to Borman's auto. The only reason I give it two stars is because the car actually drove out of their shop. read more

Terrible experience dealing with Borman auto. Mike Borman does not stand by his work. Charged $3,000 for an engine installation that does not work. Mike claims that electrical connections are not part of the deal and if engine isnt running right or even starting for that matter then it's an electrical problem and therefore not his concern. Way to go Mike! I'm left in the position of taking my vehicle to another mechanic to fix Borman autos mistakes. Buyer / customer beware. Find another mechanic in Anchorage that stands by their work. Borman auto dies t stand by their work and their warranty is useless when you get the run around for 6 months with no improvement in their shoddy work yet they will try to charge you for additional parts and labor for other items yet they can't fix the sole reason I went to them in the first place.
