Took almost a week longer than quoted. After I had a few items done two of which didn't work they would not get me back in to fix and it had inly been a couple weeks since install. When I called to try and get it corrected I kept getting put on hold so he could answer another call. So now it need to go to a Mechanics who can actually fix what they did and wouldn't warranty. I'm a disabled vet and know that this place was a big supporter of our military brethren but what a let down from the work and bad service. Please find a better mechanic for your work. read more

This place is an absolute joke! Save your time and money and go to a real mechanic. The owner Keith is a con artist. I brought my RV in for a tune up and exhaust leak, he gave me an estimate of 1200 bucks just to look it over and diagnose it. Had it for a month before calling to tell me it has about 8000 in repairs. Me, trying to get the money up to do it, he calls saying he needs the money now or get my RV out of his yard. Fine, I'll be there to get it tomorrow. I go there and he wants 1500 to release my keys. Well, I told him the day before I was flat broke, but if he could give me a little more time I would have the money. He didn't like that. So I called him a dick, just calling like I see it, he then says he's going to hold my RV and charge me storage. This guy is a crook and a PRICK! I will be slandering their business every chance I get. read more

I have had my vehicles maintained here for at least 6 years. I have been satisfied with the professional high quality service I receive. They have worked on my Ford Explorer, GMC Suburban, Dodge Durango, Ram 2500 diesel, Jeep Liberty diesel, and Ford Escape. I appreciate they call to check on the vehicle a few days after I get it back and seem to go the extra mile to be sure everything is diagnosed and repaired. They also let me know if there is an issue they can't diagnose and try to help me find a place to get the work done. This happened once with my low production 2005 Liberty diesel. Price is right in the range for Anchorage and the work is guaranteed. I wish it was less but don't we all. read more

Been planning to take my Taco there for a couple months. I'm sure it was the 'president' I talked to (Keith M). I have heard bad reviews on him. They may have good mechanics, that's the same all over the city though. I guess the good reviews to this facility are when people brought there rig in and talked to someone else. I have leaking VCG's. He told me a 6 week wait, which is not a complaint - if you're backlogged that's how it goes. But I couldn't get this guy, who seemed to be bothered by my dropping in during business hours - to give me a general idea of the APPROX straightforward cost of a specific routine maintenance job. I said I am not looking for a quote, but an idea of cost, presuming there were no other discovered maintenance issues. This is something ANY auto maintenance place understands. He said - TWICE - "I'd rather turn away business than get egg on my face". It was clear he wasn't 'in the mood' for new customers. Folks, be warned. This guys suggests you should book a 6 week delay - which I WOULD even do if they are that good - JUST TO FIND OUT what the already know base cost of a job would be THEN. Seemed more logical to just say you're not taking new customers and act like a a-hole to a potential new one. It was Greentree Fabricators (whom I first contacted due to their Taco truck experience for the work and he turned it down too) referred me to ST&A. Two down. Anchorage seems to have an inordinate level of unprofessional business OWNERS, especially if they get any good rep. Ego. This guy reminded me of Jim West (Wild West Guns), the only other business owner I met WORSE than this. read more

I went here because the owner has a great reputation within the community. This is probably a good place to take your vehicle for repair but my experience was terrible. They kept my car 3 days longer than they estimated, they did not call when they said they would, the price was fairly high, the issue I brought the car in for was not fixed, the tech was rude and so on. I did get a chance to speak with the owner who apologized for the issues I had and he did try to re-repair my vehicle's problem but it was never resolved. read more

So far, Keith M. Has been the most professional mechanic I have met in Anchorage. My truck has many miles on it and some issues that may very complicated but I trust that my vehicle is finally at the best place possible and really appreciate Keith fitting me in during a busy, post-holiday week. read more

I agree with other reviews about high prices and mediocre customer service. I brought my car in with a check engine light, and the labor cost was $400 to replace a part that is easier to replace than one spark plug. I kindly asked for an explanation of how they came to the price and if maybe I could get a discount. But, all I got was a lecture about profit margins and how people like to think mechanics have a magic tool to fix everything. For me, high prices are worth it if they come with a good explanation, quality, and a friendly experience; I didn't get one of these. I gave them two stars instead of one because the location is good for South-side residents of Anchorage. If you only care about location, this is your place! read more

Someone wanting to buy my truck wanted Specialty Truck & Auto to do a buyers inspection on my truck, So I let them do the inspection. These guys must never have gone to any school because he told the guy buying my truck I had internal engine issues because my cooling system was not building pressure, so I asked him what makes him think I have internal issues and have you checked the radiator cap? He replied with "I didn't do any diagnostics to find out why it isn't building pressure". So again I asked why he would then lead the guy to believing there were internal issues, and that is when he hung up the phone on me. Very Unprofessional people at this shop. Don't waste your time here. By the way, tested the cap at a different shop and the cap tested bad. $8 later and the problem is solved however the buyer decided not to buy my truck because of their lack of professionalism. read more

I called to have some airbags put on my truck and talked with Keith apparently the president of the company he was very rude and didn't seem to want my business. The quote was considerably high. I really wanted to do business with this guy based on his involvement in the community but after the 3 minute phone conversation i had with him I wasn't impressed and will not being doing business there! read more

We made an appointment a week in advace to have our vehicle looked at. The technician was rude, acted like he wanted us to leave, and quite frankly seemed like he didn't need the business. We have heard nothing but good things about this place on the radio. What a disapointment! read more

I called to have an engine swap done on my truck. The owner was very rude, saying that he does not need the work and the work that I needed done, did not allow him enough mark up. I offered to cover the mark up or pay extra for the labor as well as not hold him to a warranty and he told me if he had a dime every time he heard that from his customers............This conversation lasted about two minutes. heard it was a good place to get repairs. they kept my truck 5 days longer. 1400 bucks for radiator and water pump. 2 weeks later, a coolant hose busts and they charge me another 100 because they said they didn't touch that hose. But if you are working on the cooling system, replace all hoses. then another coolant leak a month later. And now a year or two later, my radiator is shot. read more

I can't recommed Specialty Truck and Auto. In fact they just might be the worst kind of business. The kind that does all kinds of great stuff for the community but is screwing people behind the scenes. They were going to charge me $500 for a repair and when I called them on it they seemed very irritated I wasn't buying thier BS, and to make it worse I took it over to J's Muffler which I highly reccommend he told me he would fix it for $80. I wouldn't be that mad but the owner of Specialty looked me right in the face and said I could only buy the part I needed from the dealer and the part was $200. I walked right into NAPA and bought the same part for $29. I really wish Dave Stieren would stop promoting this crook on his show. Oh I did get a free Laser Wash from the whole ordeal,I guess I'll chalk this up as a lesson learned. So if you take your vehicle there check around on pricing before you authorize the repair and not just for the work but the parts also. read more

DO NOT TAKE YOUR VEHICLE HERE. This is the worst shop I have ever been too. I brought my 2003 Silverado in for a check engine light to get looked at in September of 2013. Long story short they had my truck for an ENTIRE MONTH and charged me $1,200. Keith (the owner) never called to give me an update and every time I called to get the status of the truck he would say "it should be done tomorrow". The one time he did call me was to tell me that they were incapable of installing the new part and had to bring it to the dealership to have it installed. I finally got my truck back a month later, and sure enough 2 days later my check engine light comes on with the EXACT same code I brought the truck in for. I called Keith to set up an appointment which he was reluctant to make and when the day came to bring it in he said he was just too backed up to look at it and he didn't know when he could take a look at it. Save your money and time and go to a reputable shop, not a poorly run one like Specialty. They even lost their Better Business Bureau accreditation for unresolved complaints. read more
