SUPERIOR IS INFERIOR. Just because a company has been around for 20+ years doesn't mean they're a good company. DO NOT TRUST THIS COMPANY; look elsewhere! See what happened to my sister last week: I ordered a transmission for my SUV from Northwest Auto. They recommended Superior Automotive to install it. Once I ordered the transmission, I called Superior Automotive and asked for a quote to get it put in. The owner quoted me $600. I told him I would have my vehicle towed there as soon as the part came in. The transmission shows up and I get my car towed to the shop. I call the shop to tell them it's being towed there and remind him that I had called previously and been quoted six hundred bucks. He confirmed that and said they'd be waiting for the car. The owner calls me and tells me that the car isn't running and asks me what's wrong with it. I tell him it ran fine when I parked it and I assume it's just a dead battery from not running for several months. He's acting like maybe there are some other things wrong with it and I tell him it was absolutely fine other than the transmission. He gets it running and starts working on the transmission. The next day he calls me and tells me that because I gave him the wrong information about my car it's actually going to be more. He tells me that my car is actually an all-wheel drive and I told him it was a front wheel drive. I told him that it is not all wheel drive and is definitely just a front wheel drive. He doesn't believe me and quotes me $1,400. At this point I say okay because I don't know what else to do. I call Northwest Auto Parts to confirm that I actually ordered a part for a front wheel drive car based on the VIN number that I gave them. They confirm that definitely my car is a front wheel drive and that's the transmission I ordered. I call Superior back and tell him that I checked and my car is absolutely a front wheel drive. He tells me that he was mistaken and it is a front wheel drive and he forgot to call me back. He says they put a new battery in and changed the air filter and it's being test driven right now and driving fine. He thought it was an all wheel drive because the random guy who towed it over there said it came out of the snow easily. The fact that he would believe a random man over the owner of the vehicle who happens to be a female is a whole other topic of discussion. So at this point I ask him if the price is going to be back down to something closer to the original quote. He tells me no that it's going to be $1250 (with $120 for the battery and $20 for an air filter) because they put in so many hours on it. I tell him I don't understand why it would cost more than the quote if the whole reason it was going to be more was because it was an all-wheel-drive and we've established that it isn't. He gives me some line about how he's just going by the book and how many hours they worked and then my mom who is listening says she wants to talk to a manager. He says he is the manager. At this point I can tell he's getting annoyed. I get off the phone and let an hour go by. I call back because I haven't heard whether or not I could come pick up the car. He tells me it's ready to go. I pick up a friend who's going to drive my other vehicle home, and we head over. We get there and the owner is waiting for me with my paperwork. He tells me it's $600. I start to say thank you and then he gives me a whole conversation about how he "wasn't trying to f* you" and I'm now taking money out of his pocket because he's trying to do the right thing and honor the original quote even though it cost him $1,400. He gives me my keys and tells me that my car doesn't run because he "lost his cool" and "out of spite" took out the battery and the air filter that he had put in. He also said he was changing all my fluids and going to give me an oil change but he drained all of it. He indicated that he didn't drain my transmission fluid because that would have voided my extended warranty that I paid for and he wasn't "that big of a di**." My friend asked him if he could just put the battery back in and we'd pay for it so we could drive it off the property. He says no and tells me he refuses to do business with me ever again. So I'm just standing there as the shop is now closed and I can't drive my vehicle out. He didn't tell me my SUV wasn't running so for all he knew I was getting dropped off there and going to end up stranded. The ridiculous thing is, I was fully intending to pay for the battery and air filter, and I had $1,000 with me to put in his hand. Instead he wasted his own time undoing the work he put in just to spite me. I also had to wait three more days to have it towed away because he closed his property at the same time as he let me know he'd screwed me over. Which company is superior? I took my car in to have it serviced and was told my radiator needed replaced, so I had them fix it, then picked it up the following day. A week later, I was sitting in a parking lot when I heard a "thunk," my car started smoking, and green fluid started gushing onto the ground. I had to have it towed back to the shop. So you're probably wondering "why the positive review?" After explaining the situation to Butch (the owner), he said he would look at it first thing in the morning. Then he said "did you have to pay for that tow? Because if this is our fault, we will reimburse you for it." Sure enough, it was, and the next morning he called me and explained what had gone wrong the first time they tried to fix the radiator. He explained that they had corrected the mistake, and that my car was ready to go. 3 things I liked: 1) He took ownership of the mistake made by his shop 2) He fixed the mistake (very quickly, and free of charge) 3) He reimbursed me for having my car towed. Butch is honest, honorable, and treats people well. I didn't have to argue, yell, beg, or even plead my case to have the error fixed. And even though I would've preferred to avoid all that drama, I now know that they do, in fact, stand behind their work, no matter what. I used to go to Butch at Superior Automotive exclusively, trusted Butch and his word without question. Then he hired Robin as his manager and things went downhill fast. I bought my wife a used Subaru Station wagon and after a couple of months driving it she noticed what she called, "A burning smell." I took the car to Butch and was told that it was the clutch and that it needed replaced, no problem fix it. Then we get the car back and we notice the same problem so we take the car back to Butch at Superior Automotive and this time he tells us, "It is the timing belt and that it needed replaced." Again I trusted him and told him to do the work. So we get the car back, still has a burning smell after driving it, took it to another shop (Professional Auto) and they tell me that my serpentine belt needs to be replaced, I had them fix it, we get the car back and the burning smell is gone. So a few months later I'm driving back from Wasilla and the Subaru over heats, I have it towed to Butch at Superior Automotive they look at it and tell me that it is the thermostat and that it "needs to be replaced." I ok the charge, $185.00 and the next day we go pick up the car. Not 10 miles from Superior Automotive the car over heats again, take it back to Butch at Superior Automotive and now it is the head gasket, like a fool I trusted Butch again and had the work done at his shop. We get the Subaru back and the check engine light is still on, at this point I was frustrated and I took the car across the street to Schuck's Auto Parts had them scan it and I was told that it needed a new coil pack, I figured I would do a full tune up so, I bought plugs and all four coil packs. Replaced all the plugs and coil packs, check engine light is still on so I call Superior Automotive and I speak to Robin and tell him the check engine light is still on and I would like them to look at it, over the phone Robin told me, "it's the plugs and they need to be replaced." I told him I had just done a full tune up and I knew the plugs were fine. He told me in a rather pissy voice to bring the car in and they would look at it when they could, it was with great reluctance that I dropped my wife's car off at Superior Automotive again. 2 days later I get a call and I am told the car is done and that I owed $185.00 for all four spark plugs to be replaced and that the problem was that I had put in one spark plug that was the wrong size, I knew better and I told them I wanted the plugs they pulled out of my wife's car, my wife picked up the car and the plugs after paying the $185.00. When she brought it home the first thing I did was to check the plugs and as I thought they were all 4 the same and they were the recommended plugs for her car. I told her to take the car back to Butch and demand that he explain why they told us one plug was different. Butch told her that what they meant was that one plug was, "gapped differently", he went on to tell her that now they believed the check engine light was due to a valve being stuck and that would be several thousand dollars to repair. He did reverse the $185.00 for the plugs, I have never returned to Superior Automotive and now I don't recommend them to any of my friends or family. It is a shame when a business throws away that kind of trust! read more

They seemed very polite and the man I talked to was kind, but.. They gave my Subaru Forester a buyer's inspection last minute, and I assumed from reviews that they would do a good job, but a month after they gave my new vehicle the all clear except for a transmission flush, it starts smoking and part of my exhaust system has to be replaced. Cost me $1400 that I could have saved if the mechanic had spotted the issue, which according to my regular family mechanic that I should have taken it to, would have been impossible not to see. I found Mr. Madsen and his team to be a singularly impressive group to work with. I brought in a 16 year old vehicle with an 'obsolete' transmission. At the time, my confidence was not high and I thought that I would have to scrap a well maintained truck because the manufacturer had discontinued the parts needed. Butch ( Mr. Madsen) didn't promise me the world, he didn't suggest a costly alternative option, nor did he turn me away. He simply stated 'parts is parts' and said he would have a good look at it. (That statement and what followed showed the years of experience and diligence this shop has.) In my case, a 'good look' meant some V.I.N. research for specifics and calling around to some other shops. In about a week , my vehicle was fixed. My vehicle was fixed for a fair price! My experience with this shop was one of fairness and integrity. I'd return here for the good service and tell friends as well. If I could change the star rating it would be minus the one-star for sure. The only reason I dealt with this shop to begin with is Spruce Park Auto initially did my body work back in December. And that's when my car was sent across the street to Superior for my 4 tires. Ok, so it took me some time to connect the dots. Why was my vehicle going from Spruce Park to Superior, and then back to Spruce Park to begin with? Now I know. One does the body work, the other does the mechanical stuff. Roughly a month ago I had a horrible grinding noise every time I used the brakes. So once again it was towed to Spruce Park and @ that point Superior had my car. This is the time that I finally made the connection between Spruce Park and Superior. My car was @ Superior getting a brake job in which I had to pay out of pocket. USAA couldn't attach this issue to my existing claim from December, grrr! But they did pay for my rental...so that side of it helped. And a few days later I picked up my car. That same day there was a popping noise coming from the rear/passanger side every time I applied the brakes. So I went across to Spruce Park and had John do a test drive. He heard the same thing and a few days later my car was back @ Superior. After calling the shop and setting up a time to drop off my car...again, I walked in to see a Robin behind the counter having a heated discussion on the phone about...I'll leave that part out. It wouldn't have peeved me so much if he would have acknowledged me and said something as simple as, Can you please wait? Give me 5? Something!? He just continued to talk...finally he was done, and off the phone. I paid, signed paperwork, grabbed the keys and I was off. Guess what!? My car was back @ their shop again! I was told that it could've been a faulty part when the brake work was done initially. We'll here we go again! Called USAA (it was worth a try)!, car rental (this time I had to pay for everything), etc. Later that day Robin calls and says it was ready to go, but didn't ask me if it was ok to do the work. And thus adding more money to the equation. This was their mess that they needed to clean up...Free of charge! So even though USAA didn't cover anything this time around, they did call the shop on my behalf. Within the time my fiancé and I we're off the phone with USAA; Robin from Superior calls again and says to pick up the car right away! The work is "done" and now FREE of charge! He wasn't happy needless to say. So we got to the shop asap! I stayed in the rental and had my fiancé handle the rest. We got our car, and went home. My fiancé told me that Robin was pissy and called me a liar, and said that I was no longer welcome to go to his shop. Oh boo! Cry me a river, really!!! How unprofessional and rude all the way around!? Horrible experience!!! Btw: the popping noise is still there! read more

I went to Superior and paid $485 for them to fix "the problem" in my Subaru. I walked out the door with even more problems due to their mistakes. I made the mistake of telling them that I was going cross country, so now I'm stranded in Oregon with a ton of problems that need to be fixed before I continue. I have it in the shop here and am literally paying for their mistakes. I wouldn't recommend superior to anyone, nor would I ever return. read more
