Phenomenal! Had a nice sampling of items from the dinner menu. We also had a couple of great ciders as well. The Bacon and Egg entree features pork belly, maple sauce, deep fried whole egg and potato foam. Fantastic combination of flavors. Also had the crab cake. It was way more crab than cake, which was a great thing! We also tried the Mole Sweet potato fries. Sweet and zingy! We rented Borrowed Time for our rehearsal dinner/welcome party, and I cannot say enough good things! Kim is absolutely wonderful to work with. She was so flexible and accommodating. The space was perfect - they set up a tent for us and additional tables and chairs to fit our group. They offered a special drink menu for the night based on our requests and price range. I've also been here on a regular day for a glass of wine and some light snacks, and it's always lovely. Really good wines and just a fun, unique space to hang out in. Plus lawn games! read more

Wow! What a find in a small, sleepy lakeside town. We loved the edgy and fresh menu to the moon and back. We had roasted turnips that had the most delicious pan sauce that was covered in the freshest, crunchiest vegetables just picked from their garden. My husband had the pork with peppers and polenta which was delectable. I had the mushroom tacos which were succulent and with creamy goat cheese and fresh greens. I was in Saugatuck for Pride Weekend with my partner and was denied entrance into Borrowed Time. We had already spent a part of the early afternoon here, at which point I had 2 beers and a coffee with brunch, and my partner shared one bottle of rosé with two other partners. Needless to say, it was a calm afternoon filled with Jenga and bags - ultimately a nice set up. When we came back later in the evening the owner greeted us at the door and mentioned that seating was fairly limited, however, it was obvious that ample seating was available in the yard. He said that he served us earlier and accused us of drinking all day. This is untrue considering we just came off a dry boat tour with my partner's parents. The only drinks we had were the two beers 6 hours earlier at Borrowed Time. I confronted the owner about the true root of the problem, he said the people currently at the restaurant were "a different crowd", and that we cannot come in. After speaking with the owner, I realized that he owns a bigoted business. It is unfortunate because the space is outstanding, and his employees are incredibly professional and courteous. I will not go here again - my partner and I were discriminated against by being "too drunk" although we were there to drink water, eat appetizers, and play Jenga. Sir, I hope you expand your mind and allow all people regardless of their life choices in your restaurant. Until then, those visiting Pride Week are not welcome. It is your right to refuse service, however, shame on you for your unwarranted judgment. read more

Probably one of West Michigan's only stand alone "casual" wine bars. With an outside area that is warm and inviting with yard games - it is hard for any passerby not to venture in to check out all the fun. We did just that on a Friday afternoon. We got a cozy corner in the back and immediately had our order taken. The menu is great, it has a mix of affordable and higher end wines on separate lists to serve any needs. There are also beers and cocktails in case you want to do something different. Food wise we weren't hungry but there was a small menu of various snacks. The yard games we played while drinking our champagne, wine and beers were a ton of fun. Giant connect four and giant jenga were especially great. With an inside area in case it rains, Borrowed Time is probably the best "beach town" bar we have been to yet in West Michigan. read more

So we've never had a bad experience here (been 4 times prior to today). However today we experienced two things which were awful. First the bartender (who doubled as our waiter) told us to keep our one year old seated because people were coming in and out. She had walked maybe twenty steps towards the door with me by her side. The entire inside of the restaurant was empty. It wasn't worded as a request but instead as a command. Never had that experience before from the staff of any establishment. The second thing we overheard was him commenting to the other wait staff about getting tables turned over more quickly. I believe he dubbed it efficiency. Another first! Food was good, but the presentation wasn't great. Our service did not match the level of the food; our server was wearing baggie jeans and a sweatshirt and didn't seem interested in being there at all. Very uncomfortable. We tried a glass of Brut that was great and a delicious cocktail served in a plastic blue cheap cup, horrible presentation for the quality of food and drink. We went on a Saturday while in town during a "Rose all day" event. The regular menu and wines weren't available, only roses and their special menu. My mom and I decided to stay anyway, because we had been wanting to try rose. The prices were extremely expensive for a glass of wine and for tapas. The cheapest glass of rose was around $10. You could also get a half glass of wine...but who wants to pay $5-7 per tasting of wine?? Also, the food we ordered was not enough for one person and cost about $12-$17 for one tiny small plate. This was also during lunch time, when prices should be less. I had the bruschetta, which was burratta cheese and smoked duck breast. The duck was very underdone and all fat that I couldn't eat. I paid $13 for three tiny crostinis with cheese basically. I quickly learned that Saugatuck is extremely overpriced for tourists, with less appetizing food than my town of Indianapolis. If you're not at the beach, then you should be hanging out at Borrowed Time while in Saugatuck. The restaurant is situated right across the street from the Kalamazoo river in a cute home with a wraparound porch. The front yard has lawn games, seating, and plenty of shading umbrellas. You can sip some wine while watching people walk by in the town, looking at boats pass on the water, and listening to live music. They have small plates and charcuterie so it is an ideal spot for a snack but not for dinner. The baked brie is so good! And most importantly, the staff members are warm, welcoming, and attentive. Stopped in for a drink and some apps. Really cool place, comfortable layout inside. Had a local pint (a Sea Salt Stout - pretty good!) and some brie with toast. Both were great. So to start the food is good. The portions are small and there were no entree portions on there fall menu. The menus posted outside are not the current ones. Not a great balance between vegetarian and meat dishes. It's mostly vegetarian. There were so several knats by our table and the waiter didn't do anything to correct the issue. My friend and I stopped here after shopping until close at the Antique Mall. It's a very cozy place, and we stopped in on a Thursday early evening, during non-peak touristy season. We had a hightop table by the window, and the service was very friendly. We ordered a bowl of smoke salmon chowder, which had nice flakes of smoked salmon, in a creamy broth with some fresh corn niblets and chives. Then the nosh plate had deviled eggs finished with some sea salt, pappadew peppers stuffed with cheese, pickles (those were a bit too puckery for me) and Spanish olives with orange rind. The baked brie was really delicious with thinly sliced apples and honey, and we also had the bacon wrapped brussel sprouts. I felt that the bacon was perhaps a little overcooked, but the brussel sprout was roasted really nicely inside. They had very interesting non-alcoholic beverages: I tried Dram sparkling water, and my friend had rosewater lemonade. Both were very refreshing, and I'd give it a try if you stop in. read more

I cannot say enough good things about this place. Everything they do is amazing and my only wish is I had more money to visit more often!! We love their cocktails, they have a great wine selection, their food is too notch. Any one of their soups is always crazy good, ALWAYS get the soup. We absolutely love this place. Kim and Robert have truly created a warm and unique place, full of hospitality. The small plates are always beautifully prepared, inventive and delicious. The wine list is well thought-out and never fails to please. On our last visit, which was a Sunday afternoon after a local concert, we spent a few hours in the yard, drinking great wine, eating great food, playing fun games...and with our dogs included in the outing! There are not too many places in Michigan, or elsewhere for that matter, that you can include all of those things in the same sentence!
