Anyone who has driven Route 90 through the state of Ohio has probably seen the truck stops and gas stations called Sheetz. As someone who loves to road trip, I like to check out the "big name" gas stations along the highways. A couple of years ago, while on a west-to-east road trip, I decided to check out a Sheetz gas station to see what they were all about. When I walked in, it felt pretty typical. Nice atmosphere, corporate vibe, and either way, a seemingly great place to stop for a soft drink and some snacks. A man approached me. He was wearing extremely stained denim overalls and could have benefited from an appointment with a good dentist, or possibly a veterinarian. Based on his verbal articulation and commoner appearance, I gathered he was likely a local to Warren, Ohio. He confirmed this when he told me that his nearby Sheetz gas station was one of the only places he would order pizza from. In less colorful words, he explained that the pizza was surprisingly gourmet and that Sheetz should be recognized as a Michelin-star restaurant for it. Optimistically, I decided to trust this local man and his opinion. I ordered the same pepperoni-lover pizza that he did. The man wished me safe travels and walked out. I then observed him scratching his armpit outside of his vehicle before throwing his pizza into the passenger seat and driving away. After a brief wait, my ticket number was called and my pie was handed to me. Sheetz pepperoni-lover pizza committed the culinary equivalent of manslaughter. It looked like pizza, smelled vaguely like pizza, and then somehow tasted like someone baked a wet paper towel on top of a thick flour tortilla. The pepperoni contributed all the excitement of beige wallpaper, and the cheese had the personality of a tax form. Styrofoam trays make for more flavorful meals. That brings me to today. I've always thought of myself as a man who learns lessons, followed by better decision-making. While traveling through Rapid City, I was in the mood for some pizza. Off Omaha Street, an obvious pizza place caught my eye. I pulled into the parking lot, where, ironically, two older gentlemen were sharing a pie from this pizza restaurant on the back of their work vehicle. The restaurant is called Boss' Pizza and Chicken. It has an appealing storefront, clean windows, and attractive brick facades. I rolled my window down and asked the gentlemen how the pie was. Their response was poorly articulated, but nonetheless a resoundingly positive review. Some friendly words were exchanged between the three of us, and ultimately, I decided to go in and order a pizza. Great menu options: pastas, chicken, sandwiches, etc. I was feeling good about ordering the buffalo chicken pizza pie. A quick deal with the friendly staff, about a 15-minute wait, and my pie was ready. I waited to open the box until I was in my vehicle. Upon lifting the lid, my brain and mouth casually burst out, "$28 for THIS? Ha!" The "large" pie had absolutely no weight to it. They square-cut the slices, and with such an ultra-conservative amount of cheese, there was nothing holding the pieces together. It was like opening a puzzle box. The ultra-thin pieces went everywhere. Okay, okay, calm down now. Let's get to the pizza. I guess I just didn't learn my lesson after trusting that raggedy man in Ohio. When I bit into the pizza from Boss' in Rapid City, I had not experienced that magnitude of underwhelming disappointment since the day I trusted the raggedy man in Ohio. But the mere financial cost of this mistake was like pouring acid into a wound. Boss' pizza has the texture of a stale, unsalted saltine cracker, with a dusting of entirely flavorless sauces, a carefully measured .25 ounces of topping, and an eighth of a cup of what I can only imagine to be Great Value brand mozzarella that had been kept in a freezer for 11 months. This is the kind of pizza that gives Italians nightmares. Every time Boss' gets an online order, somewhere in Italy, a nonna wakes up in a cold sweat and doesn't know why. The pizza tasted like it lost a custody battle with flavor. The only thing truly authentic about that pizza was my disappointment. How could I be so thoughtless as to allow this to happen to me again? Boss' Pizza in Rapid City, your pizza should come with an apology letter on every box. 0/10. Would absolutely eat at Sheetz before ordering your $28 pie again. read more

The pizza deserved the high fanfare it received! On the recommendation of front desk staff at Grand Gateway we did a late Christmas Eve order in. Delivery was about an hour which considering the holiday and the few restaurants open wasn't bad. It arrived hot and in tact. Also, the ravioli apps were delicious! read more

Last 3 times we have ordered nothing but problems. 1st time part of order was missing . 2nd time 2 1/2 hours wait for food. 3rd time chicken was so over seasoned all you could taste was salt.​ making it inedible. Got a confirmation email saying it would be delivered between 3:15-3:30. At 3:45 I called. "Oh we don't have a driver until 4:00". Then why did I receive an email saying otherwise??? I ordered online, and accidentally ordered for pick up instead of delivery. I called and after several minutes was able to get the delivery arranged. Their computers froze, and the guy that initially answered the phone didn't seem to know how to change my order to delivery. Once I got the food, I had ordered a sauerkraut supreme pizza. The pizza was good, but it had no sauerkraut which was kind of the point of ordering the pizza in the first place. I also ordered the dessert pizza which was basically almost raw pizza dough with a little bit of cinnamon sugar on top and no icing which there should have been. Call them, and they actually told me that "Their Policy" is you have to check your Pizza before you leave, Why would any restaurant have that as their policy...unless they can't get their orders right ! I find myself lucky to have tried Boss's pizza today while in Rapid city. It allowed me to honestly calibrate my pizza scale since I've never said something with more passionate conviction, that was the closest thing to an absolute zero as I've ever had in my life. I never knew pizza could evoke both physical and psychological anguish, but I guess I was wrong. I have sat in utter silence for 20 minutes, punctuated only with a groan and gag. My life flashed before my eyes while I faded in and out of consciousness contemplating all of life's beautiful and horrifying surprises. This pizza is why I will turn my life around, quit drinking, and live on the straight and narrow since I have experienced hell in all of its fiery glory. The first time I ate at Boss' Pizza was in Sioux Falls SD. My big brother was dying. He did die in my arm. I ate at Boss' Pizza with my mom. It was very comforting and the pizza was delicious. I was very happy when they came to Rapid City and opened not one but 3 locations!! Well I ordered delivery tonight early enough I thought. It was late (the delivery) the PEPPERONI pizza terrible and the sauce was awful. I threw away the garlic cheese bread. That's how bad. The only thing with taste were the jalapeños poppers. Honestly wasn't expecting much from take-out at 8p on a Tuesday night, but after getting home from work exhausted and starving, I decided to give this place a try.. and SO THANKFUL that I did. Not only did the food quality, flavor, and packaging exceed my expectations, but the customer service over the phone and from the delivery driver were what put the icing on the cake for me. I was very happy with my pasta dinner, made perfectly as I had ordered it and the cheesy garlic bread and boneless chicken wings were incredible. This is a pizza and wing joint known for its large selection of exotic pizzas. They offer delivery, carry out and dine in. They have a small dining area and they offer bottled beer as well. I decided to go with the Super Boss Pizza. It sounded good, but that was not the best decision. Don't get me wrong, the pizza was good, but it was uncomfortably spicy hot. Anyway, that was on me. I should have asked more questions. I paid for it the next day. They have a boss challenge there were you and a friend have a certain amount of time to eat a gigantic pizza. There were only 2 winners listed. The staff there was very friendly. They are located in a strip mall with a huge private lot. Like I said the pizza was good, I just made the wrong choice. I wanted a place that delivered. I stayed at Howard Johnson's and asked for a recommendation. The counter clerk and her friend who happened to be in the lobby and used to work there said this was a great place. And recommended the lasagna pizza to me. I said I'm a NY girl, I take pizza seriously and just plain pepperoni is the true scale on which to judge a pizza place. The pictures on the menu look fine. Doesn't look like the best pizza I will ever have. I ordered garlic bread with cheese...thank god I did because this pizza was not good. I ate three tiny slices. I was hungry but just couldn't do it. It's south Dakota I didn't expect it to blow my mind but it was barely edible. Let me clarify. It's me, not them. Bad experience. My sister ordered taco pizza, was never given an ETA for carryout, never called when order done despite giving phone number. Who knows how long it was ready, the staff didn't care. The taco shell layer was soggy, see photo of other review for details. The salsa was hot, jalapeno everywhere. Referred to us by the hotel clerk for late night delivery. I was looking at previous reviews and hesitant abt ordering, but gave them a try and was not disappointed. Ordered through grub hub. Deluxe pizza, shrimp alfredo, 2 chicken kid's meal and a garden salad. Pizza was hot warm and thin crust and very tasty. NOT OILY! Pasta was good and they even gave us xtra sauce. Fried chicken meals for the kids were good! Salad was fresh and xtra ranch was given. I forgot to order soda via grub hub and called the restaurant. Jeremiah was able to add the soda to the delivery and paid COD for the soda. Food delivered before estimated time and was hot and fresh. I experienced overall great customer service via phone and ordering through grub hub and the food was delivered hot and fresh as ordered. Definitely would recommend this place for delivery. We ordered the extra large "The Boss" pizza, and all I can say about that is that it is one of the best pizzas I have ever had in the United States. We also ordered the Appetizer sampler. That one was ok. While their pizza is in our opinion outstanding, the menus are misleading to say the least. We had two different menus. One came with a printed-on $3 or 10% off coupon, the other one didn't. However, the prices on the menu with the $3 coupon were raised by $3, so no difference if you ordered for $30 or less. The one big issue I have with this restaurant is that the menu states that delivery was free, which triggered us to order in instead of going out to grab food there or elsewhere, especially since there are several places just a 1-minute drive away. When I called the restaurant about the erroneous credit card charge (there was also a discrepancy in the application of the 10% coupon - a $43.97 order before tax was discounted by $1.90), I was transferred three times and explained the situation to four different people. I was advised that I was mistaken, and that the free delivery only applied to catering orders. Well, you be the judge of that. I'll attach a screenshot of the menu. Let me know where I was wrong and interpreted the menu incorrectly. Also, the manager that I talked to (he was the third person I spoke to) was very upset and reacted annoyed when I asked if the $4.99 delivery charge applied to every delivery as I wanted to mention it in my review, so other customers don't make the same assumption or "mistake" I made. I'm not sure why one has to be upset about people leaving a review, especially if all the facts are true. So, to sum up: excellent pizza, which deserves a 5-star review, but strange methods of charging people - just not upfront and honest, and staff that may have had just a bad evening. Called again and they said they'd have to call the general manager. We went on hold only to have them tell us they wouldn't refund our money. I told them to have the GM call us.
