My boyfriend's haircut was pretty botched on the neckline. Hector shaved off too much on one side and it was uneven. He didn't say anything about it. My boyfriend didn't notice as he couldn't see the back of his head. I didn't notice until we left and I saw how uneven it was. We thought about going back but even if he shaves the other side it would just look ridiculous and his college graduation is coming up. It was only a $20 cut in 15 minutes, I think if someone makes an irreparable mistake they shouldn't even charge $20. Or at least we wouldn't have tipped 25%. I hate to leave a bad review, but I wish this mistake were handled better. read more

I wanted to support a local business and have something good to say about it. The people are nice and they make do with what seems to be a low budget for tools. Unfortunately the biggest issue is poor cutting technique, cuts coming out crooked, and styling techniques being flawed. Staff do not respond to requests to reschedule to fix errors. I would recommend that the stylists do more research on hair cutting techniques online and take greater care with their work and to ensure customer satisfaction. read more

I came here because my Elite friend, Paige, told me they have good reviews and a groupon for a haircut and deep conditioning shampoo. I called to make an appointment because there was no online appointment website. The woman who answered was very nice and I was able to get an appointment there. My stylist was Hector who did a great job cutting and styling my hair. He was also extremely friendly and it's nice when people are friendly and have the skills to cut hair the way you want! I cut off a ton of my hair and he added textures and style to my naturally wavy hair. I was also told that Boss Shears gives complimentary bang trims to its customers so I can come back for free bang trims. The Groupon deal included a haircut and deep shampoo for $24 instead of the regular $50. It's funny because there's a clause in the Groupon that "reminds" us to generously tip our hair stylists on the regular amount instead of the Groupon amount. Haha. Brooke is super talented and amazing with hair. My hair was damaged from a different salon and Brooke has been helping me get it healthy for the past 6 months. She does shampoo/blow outs every few weeks, I always leave with my hair feeling super soft and beautifully styled. I highly recommend her if you have damaged hair that need some TLC. read more

I don't have enough words to express my thanks to Brooke and Hector...they are amazing! My son wanted his hair dyed green for his bday and of course I procrastinated making the appt. The Saturday before his bday I called Boss Shears to see if coloring it green was even an option and she said yes it is and what a fun color to do. When I asked if someone was available Monday she said they were closed :( She then asked when his bday was and when I told her Monday she said you know what...I have to come in here anyways that day so how about you bring him? Wow, what a treat! I'm so glad I bought a Groupon for a haircut at this adorable little salon. I made a last minute appointment with Hector (the co-owner) for a clean-up hair cut, nothing fancy. It was a Friday just a couple of weeks after Christmas, so a bit quiet in there, which was nice. When I arrived with just-washed hair I mentioned I was using my Groupon certificate and told him he didn't have to go all out and do a wash and style, but he said "We give everyone the same treatment here, whether or not they're using a coupon." Then he proceeded to give me a terrific cut and style, as well as offered tons of consulting advice for how to grow out my short hair. On top of that, he was so personable and fun to chat with! WOW. This is one of the best experiences I've had at a salon. It doesn't get any better than this! If you go, try to go during the week when it's quieter, as Saturdays can be super hectic there. Oh, and unlike every other hair salon in existence they are open MONDAY so take advantage of that! read more

Normally I get my cuts at Headspace in Flagstaff, but oy this Tucson summer heat had me thinking a good trim would help keep me cooler especially out on my runs as I have some seriously thick hair. Serendipitously I came across their street sign on 4th Ave while out on my early morning run. Loved their name "Boss Shears", creative & made me chuckle. Decided to give them a shot later that same morning after they opened up. No appointment, just walked right in. Sign said walk-ins welcomed so in I went. First impression: small space but very clean and minimal. Everything seemed well thought out and efficient use of space which was good as they had several people all working at the same time. Place has a good vibe, people smiling and happy to be at work. Just a few minutes after opening and there were already several people sitting in chairs ahead of me, place was full which is always a good sign. Figured it would be quite a wait, but looked closer & noticed they all had color treatments already going. By happy happenstance they had a chair open for a cut and absolutely no wait needed. At first I was a little apprehensive about my stylist's age, as a manager I know the value of experience. Happily my concerns were unwarranted in this case, as great customer service is readily apparent. Sabrina asked me exactly what I wanted and it was evident she was listening very carefully, even asking further questions to clarify everything before laying hand to shears. Only after we had a clear understanding did she begin. My hair is not straight & easy, it has those thick Spanish waves & curls. Yet Sabrina did a great job of it. She even explained the steps of her method and why she was using them while she cut. I was impressed with her skill and very happy with the finished result done exactly as I asked for. A great looking cut that feels a lot cooler as well. I highly recommend Boss Shears. Excellent top notch service, they exceeded my expectations and will definitely come back again when visiting Tucson and needing a cut. read more

Not only was a treated amazingly, but I was treated better than I ever have been at a salon, which I think is a big deal considering I wasn't paying full price. Since then I have become a regular. Hector is the BEST person to go to and makes an effort to understand your hair type and blend that knowledge with what you want. Brooke has colored my hair twice (blonde balayage and partial highlights) and both times done an amazing job. Every time they do my hair I get compliments for weeks. He is also careful to offer gradual changes - so you can slowly achieve a desired look without jumping in & regretting anything too extreme or different. I last wanted middle part bangs (nod to 60s shag) and he nailed the length & movement. His styling is awesome, never dated or off-mark. In the past, I seemed to leave most salons looking like a 90s career woman. Not here. I leave Boss Shears looking like me, only way better. Great value & wonderful human. I made a mistake and started trying to manage my bangs on my own and it's no surprise that I was ready to shave my entire head not soon after. The stupid bangs were infuriating but I got a haircut so great that they are now able to grow out without driving me crazy. Heather did an amazing job on my hair! I came in with brown hair with highlights, and she was able to get it to a really fun blue color for my halloween costume.
