My mom has been trusting her home to this company for a few years. Most recently we were having an issue with flushing/drainage. Tom came in with his equipment ready to solve the issue. After making his way into a very old pipe he used an electronic telescope to look into sour sewage pipe. He humored me and allowed me to watch. I can only liken it to a colonoscopy! LOL What he did find was that the issue wasn't ours! There's an issue on the city's side. This was truly money well spent! I just have to add this - I truly appreciate the honest care they have taken with my mom and her home. Being out of state you always wonder if your older parent is being taken advantage of. Texted that I had 2 dishwashers to install, and one was a portable that probably needed the faucet connector cut off to install to plumbing. Other was a conventional built-in, entirely straightforward. Plumbers arrive 3 days later, look at the job, refuse to install the portable because it would involve "damaging" it, and ask for $375 to install the downstairs. I just enjoyed a luxurious hot shower (as opposed to bracing cold showers for the past 3 days) thanks to prompt response from Boston Budget Plumbing:) Our gas hot water heater was kaput when we woke up on the weekend - no warning, except its age. I messaged from work on Mon & Alexandria in dispatch responded w/i an hour. We got an appt in 24hrs (yes, a fee is required-assurance that both parties will be there timely). Bill sent a message when he was on way. Arrived, assessed, worked up 2 detailed quotes & explained the service plans - at my request. A couple hours later, Bill & Julien were bleeding the pipes & cleaning things up. We definitely recommend BBP- efficient effective & not too expensive. our tenant on the 3rd floor was washing clothes and noticed a leak from the ceiling going to the second floor......I called Boston Budget Plumbing and spoke to Ralph,,,,,he had all my information ready in the system and said he would have a plumber come to my house later that day. Huan Le and Julian arrived at my house at 3pm and wasted no time trying to find out where the leak was coming from and within minutes they found the leak and they had to break my ceiling wall and above ceiling to fix the leak. The work was done in less than two hours and when they left the vacuumed up the mess in the hall and my wife and I didn't have to do any cleaning after they left. Boston Budget Plumbing used to be my go to for plumbing work but not any more. Be careful when you ask for a quote. we requested a quote to have a toilet installed. We had the toilet and just needed it installed and the old one discarded. the answering service couldn't give us a quote- they said a technician had to come provide the quote and it would be $100+ for them to come. I was a little surprised since that wasn't the process when we asked for quotes before, but things change. When the technicians came, I again stated that I was looking for a quote. They said they needed to look at the toilet and would provide it. They never provided the quote- instead they installed the toilet and brought me a bill for $500. I was in shock, I asked the tech why it was so expensive and why he didn't tell me the price before doing the work, especially when the same service was $250/$300 the last time we called them. He seemed confused and said they should have given me the price beforehand. DUH! If I had known it would be $500 I would have said no thank you and we could have installed it ourselves. Be careful when dealing with them. They're not as trustworthy and honest as they used to be and I'm sorry to say I won't use or recommend them again. read more

I called BBP after noticing a water leak behind my washer machine. Ryan was able to come out and assess the situation within 24 hours and scheduled Tom to inspect and repair. Tom came out two days later and was able to spot the source of the leak, and suggested i replace my entire washer/dryer stack. I declined, since the leak just appeared to be a $30 hose to have failed. Tom also suggested the HVAC unit nearby needed to be cleaned, to which I mentioned I have an HVAC service scheduled for two weeks later. After the weekend, Tom came back with a new hose to repair and tried charging me $900 after claiming to have serviced my HVAC (though he wouldn't tell me exactly what he did) and replaced gas hoses to the dryer which was absolutely unnecessary. I've used many home professionals in the past and I've never felt like I've tried to get taken advantage of until now. Giving two stars since I assume the work was actually completed within a week, but to be charged $900 for a hose replacement is absolutely shameful. I strongly recommend using another local professional for plumbing issues. read more

We had what we thought was a leaking pipe going into a neighbors unit so we wanted to sort it out ASAP. They came out and tried everything they could to ID the problem (not a pipe in the end). Price was a little steep, but considering it was an after hours short notice job we were thankful they came out. Expensive pricing structure, emergency services incur an automatic $200 charge plus actual services. My kitchen sink had a clog and the technician seemed to be trying to upsell services by suggesting a drain cap be installed into the plumbing, total for the services were quoted at $850. I refused the drain cap installation and suggested using the standard method of just snaking through the drain which he did using an air gun (airsnake). Clog was cleared in 2 seconds without issues.Overall experience was fine, phone agents are pretty responsive. Just be prepared to pay premium prices. read more

Call someone else. They're quick to respond but their pricing is twice (sometimes 3 times) as much as other places. Also, RED FLAG - The tech refused to tell me how much of the quote was for labor and how much of it was for parts. I've tried to give them several chances but felt like they were trying to rip me off every time. 1. Called them for a clogged pipe in the basement. They tried to unclog it with no success and then quoted me $6k because they said they needed to break the concrete floor to fix the issue. They asked for $3k before beginning the work but something felt off so I told them to hold off until the next day. That same day, my father stopped by to check it out... he snaked it himself and it cost me $0 dollars! They still got me for the $250 it cost for them to come out. 2. I called for a tenant whose heat was not working. He took a look and told me the parts that needed replacement and gave me a rough estimate of "almost $1k". I then told him to also give me a quote of how much it would be to replace the entire furnace since it's old anyway and wanted to compare numbers. He went to his truck to write up the estimates. When he came back, the original estimate to fix the parts went up to $1,700 now instead of the 1k. The quote to replace the furnace was also ridiculous. I found someone to replace my furnace for WAY less than their quote. So much for budget pricing. read more

Tom told me his company was different, so we set a appointment for that Wednesday @ 8am. I get a text saying Tom never showed or called, So I called Tom & asked him why? Why no show, no call, no e-mail, no text message. I told him Tom I've already explained that we been thru this with 20 other plumbing companies, why Tom? He told me we never had a appointment! This company is by far the best I have worked with so far and I have them saved to my contacts for the future. Okay, so I don't know how they are as plumbers. Thrusday at 2pm they were supposed to show up, they have an important job, they say they can't, so no big deal has to wait till Monday. Monday comes it's around 2 pm Monday, so I call they are busy so they will send a different person down at 6. 7pm I call goes to voice mail, call again goes to voice mail. Around 8 they call saying they can't do it and might not get to it tomorrow and so don't think they should bother trying to reschedule. They suggest I try to do it myself or I hire a friend of theirs who is farther away. I end up getting pissed and taking a drill to my problem not caring if i crack something and ended up fixing it myself Moral of the story get on YouTube, buy a pipe wrench and do it yourself if you can. read more

Got the job done, but with frustrating timing, not especially "budget," and didn't leave an easy patching job. (If you'll be doing the patching, cut the holes yourself, and if you're reasonably handy, just buy the tools and do the job yourself too.) That said, I don't know if a tidier or cheaper plumbing service. We had Boston Budget install a new faucet for our third-floor deck. They quoted $900 to run water from our third-floor bathroom, through the interior of our closet (not in the wall or through the attic / mansard roof), to the outside; and ended up charging $550 to put the faucet in an indoor closet by the deck door. The first person who came to give the first quote arrived the wrong day when we had cleaners in the house (though they arrived at the previously agreed-on time of day). They looked things over thoroughly, which I appreciated, including climbing in the attic. We discussed several options. They gave the high quote for an external faucet; I forgot to ask for quotes for the other options at the time. A different team (of two) came to do the install. They arrived about 2 hours late, so I ended up spending the whole morning working from home and then helping them. They had me turn the house water supply on and off a few times rather than doing that themselves; I guess I could have insisted they do it. There were two potential access points to the existing pipes, one closer and one where we wanted the faucet mounted; I suggested cutting by the pipes first, but they started further away and then also cut a hole by the pipes (more patch work for me). They also cut one of the holes nice and square first, and then just tore out drywall to widen the hole afterwards; and the other hole they cut flush with the molding on one side and flush with the corner on the other, again making the patch work harder than necessary. And there were a few miscellaneous things they did that didn't feel solidly professional: didn't bring a tape measure on the first trip into the house, ran a squirt of water on my hardwood floor to demonstrate the working faucet, used one of my plant trays to catch drips inside the wall and then left it there rather than clean it up. Bottom line? The faucet's there and it works, so it's OK in the end. But I'll try someone else next time, and (since I can use a jab saw and a pipe cutter at least) if it's a small job -- or something tricky that I want done nicely -- I'll spend the $500 on tools and the day at home just doing it myself. read more

Needed routine water heater replacement - called Tom, he was very fast and responsive. Scheduled the replacement - Tom called day before to confirm. And the price quote he gave was very reasonable, better than most! Ryan and Phat called before they left, and showed up on time. They were friendly, fast, courteous, professional. They had to move my stacked washer and dryer out of the way. Replaced the water heater, and then put back the washer and dryer. The price was exactly as quoted (FYI, they require full payment after service). After they left, I ran the washer and realized it was now very wobbly - called Tom again, who immediately replied. Ryan and Phat returned within minutes, adjusted the foot of the washer, fixed the problem. Now the water is nice and hot. I don't anticipate any issues, but if any arise I'll update the review. They are busy and booked, but came and repaired a botched job on my water heater/boiler that another plumber abandoned. While two other groups said they needed to repipe my entire house, Tom and his workers worked with what I had, redid what was necessary and made sure to pass inspection. I contacted Budget Plumbing the week of Thanksgiving because my Lochnivar Boiler system stopped working and water heater was leaking. Tom arrived a few days later and was very knowledgable of the system and was able to repair the boiler system and replaced the water heater tank. Today was my first time using Boston Budget Plumbing and Heating - and they will be my plumber from now on. I called at noon today (on July 4th) for emergency service on a broken toilet. They called me back in less than 15 minutes and were at my house within the hour. Tim was so great - he was so knowledgeable, happy and did the work in less than an hour. I contacted 2 plumbing companies before reaching Boston Budget (and I reached them in error) as you will find out later in my story. Let me explain. My issue 3 radiators not getting warm at all - in the bathroom, my child's room, and the main living quarters hallway. The 1st plumber (who I know personally) try to resolve the issue 3 separate occasions- he stopped showing up & I stopped hounding him down. I was out $500 - not happy. So I called well known reputable company- they came out the following week (although I wanted someone asap). Their report & what they tried to explain was out in terms I could hardly understand. The only thing I understood was the boiler water level was low & they said whoever installed the boiler did not do it right. The wrote up a cost $3K! I talked with my grandpa (age 98) who resides with me for financial help - he told me to get another estimate. So this company also charged me $199 for coming out - I was caught off guard because this charge was not mention up front. So I decided to try Boston Standard I knew they lived in the neighborhood. I called early Friday evening got an appointment the following Tuesday - time slot 12-2. I took half day off but when 2:30 came I did not hear from them. I called because now I was getting a little annoyed no one called & I had taken half day off. This company let me know they were running a little behind on last job, but if I wanted they will still come - and so I said yes. About 3pm 2 young guys came over. I asked them to check out the furnace & then told them about the non working radiators. After checking out the boiler they told me about the low water level. I got a tune-up. The water level is back to normal & the workers also added 2 new valves to (2 of the 3) non working radiators. They explained the problem in simple terms. At this point they only got the bathroom radiator to work- and let me tell you I was very, very, happy! Then I was told the other 2 radiators -one in my child's room- but she's living on campus, and the other radiator located in main sleeping quarters hallway - these 2 should work in a couple of days to a week or so (house is very big). And if not, I should give them a call. So I checked those 2 radiators before I went to sleep and they were still stone cold! Well here's the really good part. The next morning I had a different feel in my room. I got up, walked in the hallway- touched the radiator-it was steaming hot! I walked into my child's room and that radiator was steaming hot! All the radiators were finally working! Then as I was having breakfast the invoice caught my attention. It read: Boston Budget! I was thinking maybe Boston Standard changed their name....No I unknowingly contacted Boston Budget instead and I am so glad I did!!! I know this review is long, but I think it's important for others to get the full story so they can know how to move forward. I went from being told it would cost $3k to paying less than $500!!! Those young men knew what they were doing and talking about. It only took them a couple of hours and they displayed great professionalism. Not budget plumbing at all. Came out to take a look at dripping pipe in basement. Charged 150 to do nothing.Technician took pictures and then went outside to call his boss for price. I thought that seemed shady. Wanted to reschedule to repipe everything for just over 6 thousand dollars. Offered a "temporary fix" for 850. We decided to shop around and thank goodness. On October 22,2019, I had an appointment with Tom of Boston Budget Plumbing and Heating between 2-3 pm to have a faucet replaced and a heating/ AC tune up for the three furnaces in the house. Tom arrived about 5:00 pm.There was no call as to his being late. Since it was dark when he finished the faucet, another appointment was made for October 30,2019 between12:00 pm and 1:00 At 3:45 pm, I called the office. Tom was elsewhere and he sent two of his employees, who arrived around 4:45 pm, to do the tune up. Saturday morning ( 11/2) all three bathrooms were flooded and the cellar is covered with water with a five foot wide, six inch deep puddle at the main drain. Tom told me he would be at the house on Tuesday (11/5) around 12:00 pm He was a no show,no call. When he returned my call, he told me he forgot and he would be at the house after 12:00 pm on Wednesday (11/6). Tom put me on the schedule for Friday (11/8) between 12:00 pm and 1:00 pm. Guess what? Tom is a no show or call.When I spoke with him about 4:00 pm, he told me he was working in the South End and he would be there on Monday (11/11) around noon. He never showed or called. During all this time, Tom never offered to send any of his employees to clean up the mess. I had to rent a sump pump and clean the mess in the cellar. It is very disheartening when an employee makes a mistake and the owner of the company doesn't take responsibility for what happened and doesn't have the integrity to fix the problem and do the right thing. I paid $ 857 for a botched job and many hours waiting to have some one from Boston Budget plumbers to step up to the plate. read more

Finally a plumber that shows up when they say they will! I can't count the number of plumbers that I've called and said they will come on a given day and never show up. The ones that have come have quoted me one price to do the job and then want to charge more once finished or halfway through the work. Boston Budget Plumbing came when they said they would, looked at the job and gave me a price for the job with estimates of additional costs should they be needed and if I want them. They were also very tidy and quick. So glad to have a functioning bathroom again. I wish I had found them sooner. read more

My 33 year old boiler finally quit last week (leaking all over the basement floor). I called Boston Budget Plumbing and they were able to come out the next day, stop the leak, and go over the options. I decided to replace my boiler and water heater with an indirect system. During the time my heat was shut off they made an extra trip to provide space heaters. Tom, Tim and co were friendly, professional, and efficient in getting the old system removed and the new boiler and water tank in place- they cleaned up after themselves and marked the new system clearly.
