Went in Monday night with a group of 5. We ordered a ton of food - bang bang & Louisiana shrimp, clams casino, lobster dainties (2x), crab clusters (2x) & mozz sticks and app shared. We cleaned up every plate, it was delicious!! We all shared a 32oz prime rib too, salt potatoes & veggies for sides (Get extra au jus, it's so good I wanted to drink it!!). It was all delicious. Yuk!!! The place is dirty. The food was horrible. The French fries actually came out dirty. My guess is the grease they were fried in hasn't been cleaned in a very long time. There were black specs all over the French fries. They stated they were homemade on the menu. No way!!!! The worst experience ever. They set up tables in the dining room with cleaning supplies that served as the waitress station. The staff hung around this are and chatted loudly. The worst part was this is where they answered a non stop ringing phone taking orders for take out. The ENTIRE meal we had to listen to this big mouthed woman take orders repeating the same thing to every caller over and over and over. Yeah we won't ever be back. My suggestion is don't even try it. Had a nice time with friends here on a Monday. They still have great specials on clams, crab clusters, and wings on Mondays after 8p. We came earlier and still got clams, wings, pizza logs, and stuffed banana peppers. The clams were littleneck clams, but the ones for the special are different. The pizza logs are homemade and delicious. The wings & banana peppers were awesome. We ordered the wings half garlic parmesan and half char-BBQ, so good. We ate at the bar, and the bartender Meg was great, very friendly & attentive. It wasn't very busy when we were there, but it was picking up a bit when we were leaving, as it was 8 and the specials were starting. They do have specials other nights of the week, like taco Tuesday, so we'll be back to try another night, or a Monday again! read more

Visiting my hometown Buffalo from California and this was one of my favorite food places I had to have on my list to revisit. I couldn't wait for the Monday steamed clam special. Well; I guess all good things must come to an end. The clams were disgusting. They came out immediately after we placed the order, therefore they must have been sitting there all ready to go out. They were cold,dry, and so overcooked that you were chewing them FOREVER. The chicken wings had a gross sweet tasting (not Buffalo) sauce and the French Onion soup had way too much cheese that it was actually nasty. The only good thing was the service. Let me start this off by saying that in order for me to leave a review at a restaurant, things either have to be impeccable and amazing in every way, or absolutely awful. And unfortunately, in this case, it was the latter. The food was decent and the drinks are cheap, and if that's all you're looking for, then you're in the right place. But to put it nicely, our server (and the other two we encountered) was indifferent, if not directly disrespectful about pretty much everything. Our visit started off with my 95 year old grandmother having to walk up multiple steps in snow and ice instead of using her wheelchair comfortably as she would anywhere else. When we mentioned the lack of a wheelchair ramp to our server, she said "well, what can you do?" and rolled her eyes. How about be in compliance with the ADA, for starters? I am in complete disbelief that this place has not been cited for that, amongst other things, especially as of late. And I understand that it is not up to the server to make these installations, but anyone who has been in service knows an "I'm sorry" and a smile goes a long way when combating an inconvenience. Other notes: 1. Every time our server used the single-occupancy restroom, it smelled unreasonably strong of cigarette smoke in the restroom and the surrounding area directly after. Not only disgusting, but highly illegal. 2. During a pandemic, they chose to refill the anti-bacterial soap bottle with Dawn dish soap, which I probably wouldn't have noticed if the bottle wasn't sitting out in the open in the restroom. 3. There was absolutely no heat in the area we were seated and other tables were vocally commenting on the temperature as well, yet the ceiling fan remained on and the servers continued to roll their eyes at everyone's discomfort. 4. Our server stumbled a little taking our order, which happens, but when we asked if an item we never received was going to be on the check, she got extremely defensive and said "you didn't order that" even though all 5 people in our party recall it being ordered. 5. And the most interesting part to me, the only time she was even relatively accommodating or conversational was when it was time for the check to be signed, as expected. I could go on and on about how absolutely horrendous our experience was at this restaurant, but I'm sure it will fall on deaf ears to ownership. I've been in restaurant and service management for nearly 10 years and anyone with the smallest amount of experience can tell you that places like this inevitably fail for a reason, which I don't wish upon them, but I wish for them to be better. Before this, we have been several times over the years but we definitely will not return. Regardless, my advice to ownership: a wheelchair ramp is a lot less expensive than a $10,000 fine from the ADA and the loss of every disabled potential customer in a 20 mile radius. I hope they decide to begin accommodating people other than their own staff, for their sake. read more

Robert Irvine where are you!! For those who don't watch Restaurant Impossible, Chef Irvine re-does failing restaurants on a show on the cooking channel. I used to find it hard to believe that some of those places exist, but I believe it now. This is by far the worst restaurant I have ever been to. The decor is sad, the service is terrible and the food is horrible. I can remember going here years ago, and although it was never gourmet, they could put together a decent meal. No more. The onion soup was so salty it was not edible, the shrimp was mushy and the pasta overcooked and the french fries were pathetic. The one highlight was the steak sandwich which actually had a good flavor. Just to add the the fun, we got to listen to one of the workers obscenities from the kitchen. Go to the Boston Hotel hungry because you will get a generous portion of whatever you order. We had two fish fries, and they were delicious. There was so much food on our plates that we couldn't finish it all. The home made macaroni salad, was delicious. Half of our plates were just macaroni salad. We couldn't eat it all. We also, got cole slaw, and salt potatoes with our fish. The fish was beer batter, and it was done to perfection. Crispy on the outside, and done on the inside with no water oozing out of the batter. For appetizers, we ordered a shrimp cocktail, and an order of the lobster dainties. We had a Groupon, and this was our first time at this location of the Boston Hotel. I had got a groupon for this restaurant so we went to give it a try. Their menu was limited, but had lots of seafood options. The prices were exactly what you paid for nothing more. Their prime rib was so cheat $22 for a 16Oz you cant go wrong. it was good but it wasn't high quality beef and wasn't cooked as a whole piece. Each was cut and then cooked so it wasn't slow roasted. The scallops were cooked well and there were so many! The mixed vegetables that came with the meals were a great variety of cauliflower, snap peas, carrots and zucchini...much different than other place which was good. They have hand cut fries that were so crispy and delicious. The rolls that came with the dinners were just the right touch. Over all the service was good and the food was good for the small type restaurant that it is. If I was in the area I may give it another go and try something else. read more

Not what I expected. Small, in fact we drove right by it initially. They don't take credit cards. Their ATM was out of cash. I was directed to the Boston Deli next door, but their ATM was also out of cash. The super nice woman working there loaded just enough money in the machine for me to take it out. Our waitress at Boston Hotel was very friendly. The cook cam out to say hello. We just had apps; the lobster dainties, raw claims and fried mushrooms. So when the Groupon was available my girlfriend and I jumped on the chance to go to the Boston Hotel in Boston. Well let me tell you it was one of the worst mistakes of my life! If it wasn't for the cheap drink prices and the Bartender being somewhat cool it would have been a total loss! I will NEVER recommend this place to anyone! Should have read the recent reviews before we went; we would have known to take the kids' suggestion and go to Friendlys. This place is completely not as advertised. Received a coupon in a monthly mailer which made the new Boston Hotel out to be just like it's former burned-down self, which many friends and acquaintances had raved about in years past. I am guessing (hoping!!) that this new location (directly across the street and in the same building as the Boston Deli) has no relation to the original restaurant other than the name. We went on a Thursday evening and entered through the bar area. The specials board (and coupon ad) showed a dozen clams for $3.75, a steak sandwich for 7.50, and a variety of steak dinners for 14.95. We sat ourselves and it took a little bit longer than it should have for the waitress to come over and get our drinks (empty dining room yet we waited at least 10 minutes). At this time we were informed they had no kids menu but could make some kid-friendly options like grilled cheese and pasta. I have one picky kid and another who will eat anything; this wasn't a complete issue for us, but something to be aware of. We found the menu to be very limited. A lot of alacarte items...and when they say no sides they aren't kidding, you don't even get a pickle. The falsely advertised clam special is now $6.75 "due to red tide" (then erase your sign and don't put it in the flyers!) so we ordered dainties (12 for $6) and clams casino (6 for $7) for appetizers. The waitress brought us some extra plates, and just like another reviewer mentioned they were styrofoam! I also had to ask for more table settings since there was only one on the table and she hadn't brought more with our drinks or apps. This is a pet peeve of mine. You should know how your table is set or needs to be adjusted! (It was at this point I busted out my yelp app to frightfully peak at the reviews and we wondered if we should cut our losses and leave to eat somewhere else). The dainties tasted especially gritty to me, but my husband and son thought they were ok. The casino were good, but ridiculously small and overpriced. For $7 based on their size we should have gotten a dozen. We liked that the clam was kept whole but my husbands comments that they looked like a deflated soufflé gone wrong were spot on in describing the appearance (see my pic). For entrees my husband had the 20 oz porterhouse special ($16.95), I had a Parmesan crumb fish ($10.95), my son got the steak sandwich special (supposed to be $7.50 but we were charged $8.95), and my daughter got a cheeseburger $4.23). The steak sandwich was basically a shaved ribeye sub. Comes with no sides not even a pickle, but you can get it topped with provolone, mushrooms, peppers and onions. It was very dry, chewy and tasteless. My son who loves steak was disappointed. It speaks volumes when an 8 year old knows more about steak than a supposed steak and seafood house. He doused it in steak sauce to be able to eat it. My husband asked for our daughter's cheeseburger to be cooked through but what we received was a charbroiled hockey puck. It was pitiful. It was seriously the size of a hockey puck... not a good value since it also came with nothing. My daughter took one bite of her burger and said she couldn't eat it. My husband then tried it and said he couldn't expect her to because it was bad all the way around. My husbands porterhouse was nowhere near 20 oz even with the bone but at least his came with a decent amount fries that appeared to be handcut and tasted fresh. He said his steak was seasoned and cooked well. His meal also came with a packaged dinner roll and mixed vegetables that looked way past their prime. I was just thankful our food came out on real plates. My fish was a good size piece, but overcooked and dry. There was no butter sauce as described in the menu and the Parmesan crumb topping was tasteless. The salt potatoes were cooked nice and tender, but I only received 5 very small potatoes. They could have spared another 5 to make it the portion equivalent of a baked potato. My mixed veggies looked better than my husbands but were covered in minced garlic (the jarred kind) and were obviously just thawed from frozen. I was glad I didn't bother splurging for the scallops because if they couldn't cook a piece of white fish I can't imagine how any of the other seafood could be good. Some other 0 star items: I don't know what brand of ketchup they use here but it definitely isn't anything restaurant quality. It tasted and smelled funny...almost sour. No free refills on pop and the $2.50 cups are small and mostly ice. Really? Soda syrup costs next to nothing per cup. A sure sign the business is struggling when they are trying to make up for other losses with the pop. Maybe we had an off night but the ambience and service also earned 0 stars. We won't be going back and will only recommend that people stay away!! read more

This restaurant has limited options for people who don't eat meat and the options available are disgusting. The caesar salad was literally just 3 types of thick shreds of cheese on chopped lettuce. The restaurant reeked of dirty rotting fish smell and styrofoam plates were used as their dishes. The waitresses were either obnoxious and rude, or just plain odd. One was wearing a hoodie and leggings just taking peoples dirty styrofoam plates off the tables. My brother ordered shrimp scampi which was more or less just noodles in a pool of melted butter with diced hamburger tomatoes and shrimp. It was so terrible he barely ate it. Sorry about that. I've been to the "Original" Boston Hotel many, many times over the years and have had many wonderful meals there. Unfortunately, the place burned down and we are now left with the joint directly across the street from the original. This review was from our visit last year... We went last weekend (to the location in Boston) and I have to honestly say it was one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had. First, the place was absolutely filthy. The floors were sticky, the bathroom practically brought tears to my eyes. It stunk so bad, I actually had to hold my breath. We sat ourselves because the waitress couldn't be found. Went back in the bar to fetch a couple beers because we waited long enough (they must call the waitress in from down the street). Between the jukebox, the TV out front, the TV in the dining room and the radio blasting in the kitchen, we could barely think. Had to ask the waitress three times to turn at least one of them down. But enough about atmosphere. I ordered the seafood platter and it was awful. Whatever wasn't overcooked or burnt to a crisp, was swimming in this nasty yellow oil - not butter. Wanted lemon, got lemon juice. Lobster was burnt, cold and tough. Shrimp were breaded and broiled but one bite found the shells still on. Scallops were, get this, soggy! Yeah, soggy. Frozen and thawed too soon, or too late - and also swimming in that nasty yellow oil / butter substitute. Really? Is butter that expensive? I'm spending 25 bucks on a platter and you can't melt a little butter or scrounge up a lemon? Oh, and by the way, clams casino does not mean that you just sprinkle bread crumbs over the top of a couple cold steamers! OK, You know what? I'm going back home and cooking all this myself because now I have a craving for some REAL seafood. On a motorcycle ride one day I looked up and found a groupon for this place and thought, why not. I was disappointed that they had a "patio" but it was just a few benches to smoke and drink at. None the less I was hungry and so in we went. It is a bar, with bar atmosphere. We chose to sit at a high top by the window versus the dining room. We had the bbq beef which was outstanding, and the fries that came with it were addicting. I was trading my half of the sandwich for more fries with the hubs. We could not decide what else wanted so since this was a seafood place we decided to stick with that. We had the seafood sampler which was pricey at $25 but when the plate came out and you saw the amount, it made it much better. The scallops were cooked perfect and were bathing in a garlic butter sauce. The shrimp was lightly sautéed with a Cajun spice. The fish was flaky with a crunchy panko. That is how it came out of the kitchen. We were there on a Saturday about 730, there were only 3 tables sat in the whole place, they were out of everything, we ordered a TON of appetizers, finger foods & clams. All were over cooked, burned or just plain blah...I will tell you the paper plates were the clincher & we will never go back!!! Oh and the bathrooms were HORRENDOUS!! I think it says something that I joined yelp just to write this review. My experience was so emotional that I needed a place to vent my experience. If you read no further just know this: STAY AWAY FROM THE BOSTON HOTEL!!! We came here tonight because someone in our family had a groupon that was expiring soon. Since we had heard decent things about the boston hotel on genesee, we were reasonably hopeful. Mistake number one. The decor is divey in more of a hazmat suit sort of way than cool. While we waited for someone to come take our drink orders I observed many a thing that I'm pretty sure we're NOT up to code for this decade or many before them. They had a table in the way of an exit door...solution? Take the "exit" word off the exit sign! Nice. I saw electrical cords that looked more fried than their fish, and the whole place needed a serious cleaning. Inches of dust were on the walls and decor. Our drink orders came and after asking about a few options on the menu, I was told they were out of about ten different things, which left me with very few options. I opted for the shrimp scampi, while other family members got steak, a fish fry and a chicken meal that was on special that night. We sat and waited, watching everyone around us get food and since the place was so busy we hoped the food would redeem the initial experience. Wrong. My shrimp came oddly paired with salt potatoes, veggies, a roll and pasta. Why the overkill of starch I don't know. The veggies tasted overcooked, frozen and bland. Perhaps freezer burnt? The roll was stale and soggy. The "salt" potatoes had that distinct taste of an old potato, were NOT salted and the butter they used had a bizarre taste. The shrimp came in a pool of grease and some sad linguine noodles. Now, I'm Italian so I know what scampi should and should not taste like. This was a prime example of the latter. The sauce was 100% grease. It had no flavor besides that of fake butter. The noodles were overlooked and stuck together (which is impressive with that much lubrication). I tried the shrimp and it was clearly frozen not fresh, chewy and had a bizarre not shrimp like taste. I went to try another piece and noticed they hadn't even cleaned them. Done. I stopped eating then and there. Meanwhile, the chicken special which sounded intriguing with mention of prosciutto and Marsala was another horror show. I have never tasted prosciutto like this before but it tasted like meat that had all the life sucked out of and was again, chewy. The sauce had separated on the plate and what I tasted was thick and way too salty. I only mustered a bite, and the person who ordered it didn't get much further. The waitress came back and noticed how it wasn't being eaten. She said she would take it off the bill, offered to bring a fish fry and stated that they're specials aren't usually very good. I was speechless. The pasta salad with the fish fry tasted like plastic...which is the best description any of us could come up with after we all taste it. The steak was bland, tough and blatantly frozen before. Throughout this experience all I could think of were shows like Restaurant Impossible and how this was a prime example of a meal that would have Robert Irvines head exploding. The icing on the cake was when we came home and looked the place up on dicey dining. Maybe it's just time to call it quits Boston Hotel! clearly there is a reason a groupon was offered and now we know why. Don't waste your time or money making the mistake we did. read more
