My daughter and I went to Ladies Night on a Thursday. It starts at 4 and we were there for a late lunch/early dinner. No reservations taken for Ladies Night and you must sit at the bar or one of the 2 bar tables . We sat at the bar. The deal is comprised of one martini or a glass of house wine, a plate of Parmesan truffle fries and a Caesar salad for $20. We saw a picture online and assumed the platters were for 2. No!! You get your own very large serving of the best fries and a fantastic caeser salad! The presentation was so nice with the fries and salad coming on a two tiered server. The fries were so thin and crispy with lots of fresh parm and lightly dressed with truffle oil ( as it should be. Most restaurants douse them ... not good.) the Caeser salad was a mix of romaine and kale with large croutons, a good Caeser dressing and cheese. Just so yummy. And the martini... we ordered chocolate martinis and they were fabulous ! Kudos to the bartender. Would I go again.. yes!! And I'd like to try their regular menu as well. Had a work dinner here on a Wednesday night with a large group. We tried to reach the catering manager for a few weeks beforehand without much luck, so we never officially finalized the booking. Because of that, we were honestly really grateful that everything worked out smoothly once we arrived. Service was decent overall, though there were a few hiccups. About half of the menus at the table were missing the inside pages, and check-ins from the staff were a bit slow at times--especially while we were trying to set up our presentation tech (connecting to Wi-Fi, tracking down an extension cord, etc.). We ordered several appetizers for the table: conch fritters, crab cakes, Caribbean beef pockets, and Saratoga chips. All of them were well received. It was my first time trying conch fritters--I expected something closer to calamari, but they were more like hush puppies (minus the classic Southern cornmeal flavor). The Saratoga chips, on the other hand, were dangerously addictive--think movie theater popcorn where you just keep reaching for more. For the main course, most of us ordered the scallops, and they were incredible. Total flavor bomb. I swapped the au gratin potatoes for mashed potatoes and nearly overdid it--they were super garlicky and completely addictive. For dessert, I took home the peanut butter mousse pie along with a half dozen cookies. I loved that they warmed up the chocolate chip cookies so they tasted like they had just come out of the oven. They also had a subtle cinnamon/cardamom note that made them stand out. Girl dinner Thursday's ! My coworkers and I had such a blast at Curlys, the "girl dinner" consists of any martini you can think up, truffle fries and a Caesar salad. I ordered a lemon drop with my dinner. The truffle fries were so good, a thin crispy fry, garlicky, and loaded with Parmesan cheese. This time I honestly wasn't as impressed with the food (for the price or in general). I like what Curly's is trying to do and I do appreciate the upscale vibe being brought to Ridge Rd. But honestly the jerk pork was super dry and prices were higher than I would have liked for what was offered. I didn't grab a pic of my meal (forgot). I will say the drinks were very good! Dessert was also tasty. And we got in with a last minute reservation but didn't even need it. We went on a Friday night in December at 6:30pm and there were a ton of tables open; which yes is convenient but also indicative. Service was pretty quick. The bartenders are always pretty friendly. Not the best but not bad. My father ordered a skillet with shrimp but it wasn't any better than what you would get at Applebees with the 2 for $25 deal, so stay away from the skillets. I had the Jerk Chicken with coconut steeped rice. The chicken was flavorful and was a big portion. It was drenched in sauce which didn't allow me to enjoy the crispy skin. The spice level could be taken down a snitch in my opinion but a decent dish overall. The start of the show was the Chicken Ochie. An amazing dish. The few bites my date shared were divine. 100% recommend! The Doibled Fried Korean BBQ wings were an amazing app! Loved them! The service was okay. She was working 8 tables so that suffered. Disappointing Easter brunch. A last minute change to Easter plans left my husband and I looking for somewhere to have brunch. I called a few places earlier this week and ended up making a reservation at Curly's. We haven't been there in years and now I remember why. We waited a little longer than we should've for our server to come to the table. They were offering a limited brunch menu since it's Easter so it didn't take long to decide what we were ordering. My husband ordered the breakfast pizza and I chose the breakfast skillet. My guess is that a lot of what was being offered had been made in advance. The crust of the pizza definitely wasn't made from scratch and there was hardly anything on it. The hash browns of the skillet were dry and hard. The eggs were not freshly scrambled and topped with a slice of cheese fresh from the wrapper. The mimosa just tasted like very acidic orange juice. Definitely not worth the price! I was craving pasta after a very busy day. So, I ordered to go...cup of black bean soup, my favorite Silk and Satin, and key lime pie! OMG!! Sooooo, good, a freezing cold night and it really hit the spot. She said fifteen minutes, and by Joe it was ready when I arrived! I sure was pleasantly surprised on the entire experience The only rub was I would've enjoyed a piece of bread, to sop up all the left over goodness. Who knew there was a great restaurant in this area of Lackawanna? I sure didn't. We discovered Curly's last night and had a lovely time there. We both ordered excellent drinks and tried FOUR appetizers because we could not decide what to order. The mussels had a creamy cheese sauce. I'd never had mussels that way before and they were quite good and served in a very healthy portion. The gnocchi poutine was rich with pulled pork and cheese. A smaller portion for a good reason! The beef pockets had a great curry seasoning and were crispy and delicious, served with a substantial amount of delicious sauce. The Korean wings were the star of the show. Huge, delicious, very crispy, with a perfect sweet Asian chili sauce. We were stuffed but for dessert we tried a Swiss roll made of almond meringue filled with chocolate ganache and decorated with fresh berries and cream. And a homemade ice cream strawberry sundae. Can't wait to try this place again. Seabass was on the menu and I look forward to trying it soon! The ambiance in the restaurant was great, good music, chill atmosphere, and tasteful decor. My manhattan was delicious and my bf's smoked old fashioned was spectacular . We had Ruben fritters, Korean wings, clams casino , the lamb chops appetizer and a curly s burger. My friends and I recently celebrated our half birthdays and chose Curly's to do so, as 2 out of 3 of us are gluten free. We went on a Tuesday and it was a very laid back atmosphere, which was great. We had a drink at the bar and casually wandered to our table when we were ready to eat. I ordered the smoked maple old fashioned, which was strong and tasty. My friends had the smoked s'more drink, which I tried a sip and liked it. It wasn't sweet at all, which is always a plus. We ordered the beet salad to share and the waiter even brought out gluten free rolls for the table, which was so great and accommodating. They tasted great with some butter, or olive oil for dipping. The beet salad had goat cheese in it and it was fabulous. The portion was huge, so it was the perfect sharing size for 3 people, and it would be great for 4 as well as an appetizer, or addition to your entree to share. While at the table, I also ordered the bourbon jam drink, which I enjoyed and my friend had the apple sangria, which she had been wanting to get all night. She liked hers as well. My friend and I went with the jerk chicken dinner. It was cooked wonderfully and had the perfect amount of char on it. It came with rice and beans. It was a satisfying dish. My other friend ordered the scallops and enjoyed her dish as well. Of course no half birthday celebration would be complete without dessert. My friend and I ordered the cookie skillet, gluten free. The waiter asked if we were going to share and we said no. When it arrived, we knew why he had asked about sharing. It was humongous, but delicious and we were in heaven. Our other friend ordered the s'more cheesecake. It came with chocolate marshmallows, and she liked hers as well. I highly recommend this spot, especially if you are gluten free. First time here. My first impression was a local bar and grill trying to be a fine dining restaurant. I had been told it was a Caribbean restaurant and hadn't looked at the menu in advance so was expecting more that a few 'jerk' dishes. We started the meal with drinks and our waiter brought out rolls with a dipping oil. The rolls were terrible! Kind of rubbery hard like you'd get from putting a roll in the microwave. At our table the orders included a Bistro tender, open faced steak sandwich, a stir fried chicken skillet, a stir fried tofu skillet, and Chicken Achie. The stir fries definitely were the hit at the table. Both were loaded with fresh, crisp colorful veggies. The response to how was the chicken ochre was 'ok'. Nothing bad but nothing great either. I've been to Curly's once before this about 2 years ago for their fish fry and it was delicious then and continues to be delicious now. My boyfriend got the fish fry this time around and I opted for the broiled Jamaican jerk fish instead to choose a slightly healthier option. However, when our meals came out you better believe I was regretting my choice because that fish fry looked so damn good. Thankfully, my entree was delicious in itself so I didn't have too much buyers remorse. My fish was perfectly cooked and the Jamaican jerk seasoning was absolutely scrumptious. It came with a mango chutney and a side of steamed veggies that were nothing to write home about. I had a bite of the fish fry which was panko crusted and so light and fresh. Their homemade tartar is great but my boyfriend wasn't a fan of the coleslaw (I thought it was fine but not much flavor). We also ordered a special - truffle Mac & cheese with burrata. It was incredibly good and very flavorful with truffle oil but for the price of $22 (we didn't realize until we got the bill) I would definitely pass on that next time. For Easter lunch/dinner (yeah, the review is a little late!) we took Curly's up on their family meal. It was said to feed a family of 4-6 or so, and priced to reflect. Picking the meal up was a practice in patience. It was a popular offering to be sure, and cars lined Ridge Rd waiting for their pick-up. We ended up being asked four times for our information as we saw cars around us pull away. When ours was finally ready, the server loaded a big cardboard box into the back seat of the car and we were off. After getting home and decontaminated from the shopping trip, we opened the meal tins and re-plated what needed it. Unfortunately when doing so, we discovered that both the potatoes and ham had been burned. The potatoes were burned along the sides of the ribs and the top layers of ham were either slightly burned or well dried out. No doubt a side effect of being cooked in the thin tin trays rather than conventional containers. As far as taste goes, everything was delicious. And given in very generous portions. The corn and ham ended getting added into numerous other meals until we we're finally able to finish it all! Everyone agreed that the potatoes were the hit of the meal. Creamy and cheesy and full of flavor, even though we did have to throw out the burnt edges. The meal was good, however tweaks in preparation and serving could have improved the experience. read more

Made a reservation for patio dining on the first day of allowable outdoor dining during the phase II reopening of Erie County. Left a message for a reservation which was confirmed with a voicemail within an hour. We arrived to see the staff wearing protective masks and were promptly seated. The seating area was limited to six sidewalk tables which were all occupied. Planters separated the dining area from the public sidewalk. The menu was fairly extensive. We ordered several appetizers and one entree as well as drinks. They had a nice selection of craft cocktails but only bottled beer. We ordered a vodka lemonade and blueberry vodka which were both served promptly and tasty. For appetizers we ordered a beet salad, Korean wings, and Mac n cheese. They were served in a reasonable amount of time and were equally tasty. The jerk chicken dinner was also served at an appropriate time and was very good. We used to be fairly regular here. But times change and new better restaurants are born. This was a last minute thing and the food was a big let down. Even when we arrived there was no one around to greet us. We waited for 3x longer than was reasonable to see an employee. Then we're rewarded with the worst possible table. I let them know that and we were changed to a good regular table. Then we didn't see a server for a really long time. Then the food was quite disappointing. Runny curry noodles that bit me back the next day. And my wife was Really disappointed with her jerk chicken salad, small, not grilled chicken, too much cinnamon. We're not going here anymore. Love this place, never had a bad meal or unpleasant experience here. Went tonight for our anniversary (also St. Patrick's Day.) It wasn't too busy, we still made a reservation because this place gets packed (at least they used to when capacity was normal,) and we were seated promptly. I definitely suggest making a reservation if you're going to go on a weekend. The Gnocchi Poutine is a must try appetizer. I also recommend the duck breast, and the lamb, everything is so good. Met an old college friend here for lunch at her suggestion. I was not at all disappointed. Shared soup and the Asian chicken salad with my boyfriend. They were both good and filling. Though we had a good meal I wouldn't say it was anything spectacular or made me jump for joy. It was good. The staff were just ok as well. The wait to be seated in the restaurant is kind of at the end of the bar and in an awkward places to stand because people are trying to get by. Also, there isn't really any indication that is the place to wait for seating. You kind of just guess. The decor was nice, I felt like I was at a wedding venue. Very difficult review for me to write. My husband passed away very unexpectedly. Our pact - we are not religious - was to be cremated with a post cremation celebration of life. The unthinkable happened and I and my daughter were left to deal with the details. Joe, my late husband, loved Curly's. As did I. In previous incarnations. We set up the celebration to commemorate his 65th birthday. My daughter worked here for years, in banquets. The room was great. Food, exceptional. I added Korean Wings - Joe loved them and they are damn tasty! Down side? Not once did Jill, banquet manager, check on us. I paid for the room and the staff broke it down before we left. Vacuuming, flipping chairs, etc. Really? I paid for the room until 3.30pm. We were kinda/maybe pushed out around 2.30 -3.00. $150.00 for the room rental. Put off visiting Curly's for a long time. Was given a gift card probably about three years ago around the holidays, and it hung on a board above my desk for so long it became part of my daily background scenery, this was a mistake. Almost every element of my experience at Curly's was great. Environment The restaurant is gorgeous, I'm not a huge fan of the giant chandelier in the first dining area, but that's just my personal taste. Staff The host seemed a little off put by our presence but I almost blame myself because neither myself or my partner were aware this is a moderately upscale setting, and we may have been slightly underdressed. Our server, Joanne, was kind and welcoming, and made us feel right at home. Her demeanor was consistently friendly throughout our entire dining experience without feeling forced. Food I ordered the rack of lamb, medium rare, with the black bean soup. My ordered one of their daily specials, which was a stuffed chicken breast, also with the black bean soup. The rack of lamb, was phenomenal. Tender, perfectly seasoned. Served over honeyed sweet potatoes with and what I believe was broccolini. Only disappointment here was the lack of the chimichurri yogurt mentioned in the menu as well as featured on their own images on their website, which I feel would have been a nice contrast to the overall flavor of the dish. The stuffed chicken breast, while I only tried a nibble of each element on the plate was well prepared and definitely something I wish was on their standard menu as I would be willing to order it for myself. The black bean soup was great, wish it was served with a bit more onion but I may be nitpicking here. The bread and dipping oil was also shockingly fantastic, and honestly put a few of our regular places to shame. I could be entirely wrong, but I believe it was mixed with some sort of balsamic, and the two meshed extraordinarily well. All in all, fantastic food, and while I wish my entree would have been presented with the yogurt, the overall experience was so good I wouldn't dare knock down the review to four stars. 4.9 stars? They have incredible rotating weekly specials that you should should be stopping in for, in additional to their amazing regular menu. We weren't that hungry after a late lunch, but we still had a great meal. A Caesar salad, prime rib flatbread, and my favorite crab cakes around. We live near by here and have never come because of the online menu prices. Well I hate to say that we were terribly disappointed. The 2 stars are for the wait staff who were great. We ordered the Gnocchi poutine which was good with the pulled pork and seasonings but the Gnocchi itself was dense and not good oh and you only get 3 of them so depending on the size of your party you may need to order more. We also ordered the "Caribbean beef pockets " I've bought better ones in the freezer section of any grocery store. They say homemade but I question that. We also ordered the Thi bowl that clames to be curry flavors but it wasn't. It was a weird I guess a required taste that we didn't like. The black bean soup was baby food consistency with no flavor. I hate posting reviews like this but seriously this place was not worth the money. Speaking of money. Since no one at the Thi Chile bowl the waitress took that off the bill but added $8.00 for the chicken that also was not eaten because it was so dry. Their prices have increased and there isn't much to show for it. We ordered two silk & satins, one with chicken, one with a side of black bean soup. I'm sorry, but how is this portion of silk and satin and a hunk of over cooked chicken worth $29?! The food is good, but it's not THAT good. ($23 for silk and satin, $6 for chicken). So, I am really a Northtowns girl and haven't really ventured to a lot of the restaurants in the Southtowns. I went to Curly's for the first time with my family last Friday and I had an overall very pleasant dining experience. The atmosphere was pretty welcoming and the lighting offered an intimate environment. The decor related to Buffalo which was a nice touch. We started off with cocktails and I went for the Blueberry Mule. It was a unique cocktail design so I was excited to try it. The cocktail had a really delicious, fruity flavor but the mashed blueberries at the bottom made it a little difficult to drink. For my entree, I had a "jerk" haddock with mango chutney and seasoned rice. This was something I'd never seen on a menu before so I jumped at the chance to try it! I will say the flavors went very well together in this unique dish that was well crafted. Our server was very attentive so no complaints about the service. Lackawanna ... Ok, this is a city known for its LACK and its Bascilica but today on my way to an afternoon business appointment I discovered a restaurant that LACK'd nothing perhaps being blessed in the shadow of Our Lady's because my Curly's lunch experience was oh so good!! In fact, in between soup and main course, I was thinking how I could justify a business lunch outside my Westside office "eating zone." My GPS accurately forecasted an arrival only minutes from the brink of Buffalo's Niagara River Westside shoreline ... I can do the trip but need to convince some business partners to join me. If you drive down Lackawanna's Ridge Road the streetscape is LACKING but Curly's parking lot is welcoming and entering this warm restaurant you forget about the ghostly scene you had just been part of. The walks showcase Lackawanna in its glory days (Yes, they had some good days in this city where steel made it strong once upon a time in a faded dream.). The restaurant staff smile genuinely welcoming smiles as they greet customers. I was led to my table for one in a wood paneled dining room. Yes, wood paneled and to me it breathed class not age ... I was feeling relaxed even before I sat down. The lunch menu is just the right size because at lunch time I don't need to be overwhelmed by a zillion options, which always makes me wonder if any menu item is special. Black bean soup was a must and I was in a Jamaican mood so the Jerk pork loin sandwich was my choice. When I said fries instead of chips my server, Ashley, smiled and said "our fries are sooooo good," and I smiled. If there is such a thing as a perfect black bean soup this was it. Diced onions, a little bit of sour cream, and great flavor and texture with each spoonful. The accompanying bread was oh so fresh with a dipping bowl that had a nice little hidden bite. As I took care of some work the quiet room with a nice blend of background music increased my plans to return. And, Ashley timed her water fill-up's with the status of my meal question perfectly. Always with that real smile. Oh my the Jerk sandwich ... The fries ... And surprise surprise a half plate of chopped fruit. The sandwich was thick with sliced pork loin plus some added items that had the juices tracing over my fingers and hand. I was one very happy mess. Oh the fries ... Ohhh the fries they were as yummy as promised. Ashley noticed the messy hands and casually left a pile of napkins next to my plate with a smile. I finished it ... So good!!! Haven't been to Curly's in years, but it was one of my favorite restaurants. My oh my, have things gone to hell. I don't know why they are pretending to maintain the same food as the original owners (like the Chicken Ochie or the Conch Fritters) without caring about the preparation or quality. The sweet potatoes were a gluey mash. The pork chop stuffing was supposed to be walnut and mango, but it was a weird grey paste, and I'm sure it has never met a mango. The nicest thing I can say about the chutney on the Ochie is that it was ginger-forward. The Brocolini was good though. Everything else was, at best, sub-par. The conch fritters were bland and underwhelming. (Inexplicably, they also added a Thai Bowl to the menu. They can't even do the Caribbean cuisine justice, why take a stab in the dark at Thai?) The service was also poor. Our waitress was not friendly or personable in the least. On top of all that, it's very, very expensive. All of the seafood was insanely expensive. The sea bass was $53, which they claim was "market price". I doubt it. If you remember the Curly's of old, do yourself a favor and don't go back. Let it be a fond memory. read more

Recently I came here for the first time to celebrate my friend's birthday. Our mutual friend has been here previously and enjoyed his experience so he wanted us all to share in it. Walking in you will immediately see a long, gorgeous dark wood bar. The host station is located towards the end of the bar, tucked into the right side wall. Arriving early my friend and I settled into the bar to await the others arrival. Glancing over the cocktail menu I settled for the holiday version of a Moscow mule. Pear vodka, cranberries, etc, i found the cocktail very enjoyable, light and fresh. I recommend checking your coat into coat check as the dining room can be tight. Upon sitting down I knew what I wanted due to looking at their menu online. My friend and I split the Jamaican beef pattied. The appetizer is served as two patties with a sauce and coleslaw, the beef patties were delicious, not over seasoned and the accoutrements greatly enhanced the flavor. For my main course I selected the Cubano hoagy. Being a fan of Cuban sandwiches I was excited to try their variation. Again I found their coleslaw enhanced the flavor of my sandwich however maybe too much time under the broiler made the bread very crisp. Overall it was an enjoyable experience, I had wished our waitress was more attentive. Our second drink order was an ordeal to get her attention and she (and the busers) were slow to clear the table. read more

Curly's Grille never disappoints. If you eat a regular diet or a gluten free one ... this is the place for y'all. Excellent food & drink. Wonderful ambiance... Will be a return customer of course. Been going there for over a decade. Service was great too. Very accommodating, very pleasant. read more

For starters I've been here before but a long time ago & I ate lunch... today I eat dinner anyway for an appetizer I eat sarotoga chips the waiter was like once you eat one you won't stop eating them. Um!! That was true, also eat some carribean beef pockets but when the waiter delivered I was like thinking those are pastelillos but they were flavorful. I also made room for some bread, & house salad which I had with some vinaigrette for an entree I eat seafood penne which was delicious, sipped it down with sangria.
