There are some genuine professionals and efficient people at the front desk - James, for one. I was going to ask who I could contact to send a compliment about his customer service before my entire appointment fell apart. I was referred to Boston Laser by my PCP. I made an appointment, got the referral approval and received an appointment with the doctor who deal with contact lens issues. Apparently, nothing was put in my appointment about it having to deal with contact lenses even though that is exactly the reason I was given that doctor because I told them that was what I needed to be seen for. The doctor was out sick and I was given an appointment with a different doctor who I believed, based upon what I had said, would deal with contact lenses. I called the referral line from the Boston Laser offices and was given approval and went through the Boston Laser registration process and had the preliminary eye processes with the Boston Laser tech. She walked into the room after she and I had discussed my issues and told me that she had bad news - that the doctor I was going to see was not in that day. I told her I knew that and that's why they had placed me with a different doctor. She came back and second time and told me that she had bad news - that this second doctor did not work with contact lens issues. I went back to the front desk and told the woman there that I hadn't been seen. She said that since I had seen the tech that I should have a seat and that the doctor would see me. I explained that I was told that he wouldn't be seeing me. She asked if I wanted an appointment with the original doctor tomorrow. Then she had the supervisor come speak with me. He essentially told me for what must have been the 5th time that when my appointment was made, it had not been entered as someone needing help with contact lenses. Why each person had to reiterate the offices's mistake to me, I have no idea. It wasn't that I didn't tell them. It was that they didn't book the appointment correctly. But they felt the need to tell me this multiple times. The supervisor instructed me that they could do an eye exam for me. This would cost me out of pocket as I had already instructed them when my last annual insurance-covered exam had been. Not sure how this would have been a solution. He said he could "fast pass" me on my next appointment so that I wouldn't have to wait. I asked how anything would be different with tomorrow's appointment. He told me that the doctor would not be in tomorrow. So why did the front desk offer me an appointment on a day in which she is not in? Inept? Yeah, feels like it. The offices are very strange-looking, like a movie set from the 1970s. First impressions are important. Boston Laser failed me mightily. read more

I just wish I had done it sooner! This is not a cosmetic surgery. It is a life changing procedure that completely improves quality of life. I was a little apprehensive in theory as I thought maybe contacts and glasses were not that bad ... From the moment you walk in to Boston Laser their welcoming atmosphere and staff put you at ease, and upon meeting Dr. Melki I was quickly reassured by the statistical success, his level of professionalism, bedside manner and experience. He took time to answer all of my questions until I felt comfortable proceeding (or declining - he made it clear the choice was mine). The actual procedure itself is unbelievably fast. There is a little prep time the morning of but you are in and out of the surgical suite in less than 5 minutes. It is completely painless. As soon as he was done I could see. I was shocked. I went home and took a rest and when I awoke I had 20/15 vision. Recovery entails protecting your eyes for a few more days while sleeping so you don't rub them unconsciously. Now a few months out, I almost take it for granted , but the reality is I can't remember ever seeing the world so clearly. Sometimes its' just the little things like being able to read the TV Guide from bed, seeing more distinct colors in a flower, or not running out of contacts on vacation, but being able to wake up every day, open my eyes and really see in invaluable. I did reach out to the officevto let them know about the issue with my lenses and they scheduled another eye exam in the Wellesley office. I have to say I had a much better experience visiting the Wellesley office it was quiet and the people were overly friendly and sincere! My prescription was incorrect and they corrected it and will now replace the lenses on the four pairs of glasses I bought. So overall I am extremely pleased with this experience. read more

Eye exam took only 15 min, I was able to speak/interview Dr. Melki for about 5 minutes, who strongly recommended me to have mono vision surgery. I had to wait almost 1.5 hours to have the first exam, by the very inexperienced technician. Then other 1 test to check my eye. There were too many people in the exam room, too clouded. Office was not clean. I previously had an another eye exam prior to LASIK, and found out my cornea was too rough after 20+ years of being friend with contact lenses. 4 out of 5 Dr. Recommended me to go thr a treatment first. Dr. Melki told me that if I sign the surgery today, he would give me $1,000 discount, then surgery would be the day after tomorrow. Seriously? This is about my eye! The next room I was sent was the Financing office. Kidding me. So I never came back here. I had about 2 months of cornea treatment, back to my glasses, had an LASIK at Tufts Medical, with Dr. Woo. I remember interviewing Dr. Woo, was almost 1 hour long, and all eye exams were done by Other Dr., not technicians. I do recommend to go Dr. Woo, it is about your eye. read more

Horrible experience! I have been a previous patient at Boston Laser on Beacon Street, prior to the move to Webster Place in Brookline. First, the website has no access for booking. It directs you to call to make an appointment. Then, no one answers the phone, the recorded message cycles around and no one answers. The recording says due to staff shortage, it is better to email the team for faster response. I sent an email and was offered one time the next week. In my email I left contact details, including cell number. When I went to the appointment (first, the sidewalk was not shoveled or safe for patients), I was told as a MA Heath patient, I needed a referral to be seen. So basically paying for a rare parking spot for two hours, yielded in being turned away to be seen. I asked if I could see the DR today and get the referral today as needed (many offices do). I was told no. Then I asked, why was I not asked this or informed prior to the appointment? And was told, we didn't have your cell number (which was provided in the scheduled email, as well as being a former patient). There were 3 people in the reception area working, no one answering phone calls. Obviously, this practice is a for-profit, they have a beautiful office, and horrible customer service. If you are willing to pay $5K for lasik they are for you. If you are on MA Health, they don't respect you, nor help. I have never had such a horrible customer service experience at any DR office. I just had my Lasik surgery with Dr. Melki yesterday. Here's the thing: when you're writing the review of the place that just did surgery on your open, watching eyeballs, you really really really want to be able to give that place a five star rating. You want to know that everything went as smoothly as humanly possible. They're the windows to your soul, after all. But while I had no problems at all with Dr. Melki, there were some serious hiccups in my Lasik experience that warranted the loss of two stars. I'll start with the good stuff first: it's been a little more than 24 hours since the surgery and here I am, sitting at my computer, comfortably writing this review. I can see better now without my glasses than I could with them. They also do all of their Lasik surgeries on Friday, so that you can take the weekend to recover. Some reviewers here suggested that Dr. Melki had a bit of a cold bedside manner, but I found him to be patient, professional, and willing to answer my questions. He didn't pet my head and coo into my ear during the procedure, but I had no qualms entrusting my vision to his care. I had done extensive research on where I wanted to have my laser vision correction done, and I decided that I definitely wanted Intralase, also known as iLasik. It's a bit more expensive, but it is well worth the extra money. You only get one set of eyes, after all. I won't go into details on iLasik here, as there are plenty of other resources out there which you're probably already checking out if you're considering laser surgery. I was very happy to learn that my insurance offered a discount at Boston Laser, since it was one of my top two choices (the other being Mass Eye and Ear, if you're interested), and since Boston Laser does iLasik exclusively, which means they have a lot of experience doing it. Okay. Now the not-so-good stuff. The day of surgery arrives, and I show up by myself, a bundle of nerves. My girlfriend had offered to take the day off work to go with me, but it was her last day before starting a new job and I didn't want her to have to go through the extra trouble of also taking her last day off. I could take a cab home, after all. No need for us both to miss a day of work. Bundle of nerves, bundle of nerves. They call me in to have me sign some forms and to explain my post-op care. I'm given eye drops, sunglasses, and sleeping eye shields to take home with me in a stylish black fanny pack. I have to initial some other forms. "Did you purchase the lifetime eye guarantee?" she asks me. Huh? Lifetime what? I was never even offered a lifetime guarantee. I have no idea what she's talking about. "Okay," she says, "Just initial there where it says you would like to decline the lifetime guarantee." I initial the line she indicates. Five minutes later, as I'm sitting out in the waiting room, a bundle of nerves, I decide I really really want the lifetime guarantee. Why the hell wasn't I ever offered this option? Did I skip a step somewhere? And when do I get the Valium? "Doug?" My name is called. "Sit here, you're next!" I'm..... wait. I'm what? I'm next? As in next to go in for surgery, or next to get the dose of Valium that'll calm my ass down? If that's the case, why am I waiting right outside the surgery room? I grab a passing nurse to ask about that Valium. Again, I can't help but feel that I missed a step somewhere. "Oh, we don't give you Valium unless you have someone to take you home. You know, in case something happens. I'm sorry, I thought you knew that." No. No, I did not fucking know that. That would have been really fucking helpful to know last night, when I was telling my girlfriend not to worry, that I'd take a cab and call her when the procedure was over. At this point I don't give a fuck if it's her last day at work. That suddenly seems VERY unimportant right now. I spend the next ten minutes taking long, slow, deep breaths. The good news is that the procedure really wasn't all that bad. The deep breaths helped. I was offered my choice of two different stuffed animals to hold, and chose to hold both. Just as good as an anti-anxiety pill, right? It was like the first roller-coaster I ever went on: I was really really scared as the car climbed the first hill, but then I realized I was going to have to do the whole ride no matter what and it was too late to get off and it'd all be over in a few minutes anyway, and somehow that calmed me down right away. The same thing happened as I was waiting in the Lasik on-deck circle. And while the surgery was going on I squeezed the hell out of those stuffed animals, but I made it through. I'm very glad I did. But if you're considering getting your eyes done here, be sure to have someone with you who can drive you home. And why the heck wasn't I offered that lifetime guarantee? read more

Edit: 3.23.16 For anyone still reading my review edits, here's an update. My right eye is still isn't as good as my left eye. I was told it's b/c I have dry eyes. I've never been told I had dry eyes before coming to Boston Laser. I've been using eye drops every day but they don't seem to help the vision. Dr, Melki wants me to try Restasis but I'm hesitant b/c it's something you have to use forever to continue getting the results. Feel free to message me for further details! Edit: 9/3/2014 I'm a little late to make this edit: I got my enhancement surgery on my right eye. My vision as a whole is much better. I no longer see the difference between the prescriptions. My right eye still isn't 100%- it's not as clear as my left but overall I think the surgeries were a success. My husband got ICL from Dr. Melki. It's a different procedure and too long to write about so if anyone is interested feel free to message me and ask. If there is something I had to critique I would say Dr. Haque finished her fellowship and a new Dr. is now at the office. It's a bit of a hassle for both my husband and I because follow ups with the new Dr. means more follow ups since she tells both of us to "see Dr. Melki" another day. --------------- Edit: 3/30 Hopefully my edits won't make this review too long but Rick called me last week to come in earlier for my 1 month check up. I appreciate the thought and overall Rick has been great. The appointment is completely different than my previous appointments. It wasn't rushed and even got to ask all my questions. Dr Melki and I had ample time to express our concerns and miscommunications. My right eye hasn't improved but the meeting has made me more optimistic. We created a plan and potential timeline for my touchup (if needed). I'm looking forward to the next few appointments and re-surgery if necessary. ------------- Edit: 3/12 After much thought about everything I've decided to amend a statement: I still recommend Lasik but I do not think that you HAVE to get it at Boston Laser. As I'm writing this I'm struggling with the differences in the eyes. I realized that if you qualify for Lasik (not including the ICL-I have no comments on that) go to a doctor of your choice. Boston Laser really isn't that unique that you should only go to. I know people who did Lasik at other places and they have no problems. You don't see DR Melki until the surgery day (if you're lucky than before that). You only deal with the staff prior so you're really not getting Dr Melki expertise. In my situation, if your eyes don't get 20/20, no one cares. No one has called me to followed up and no one even cared that my eyes are not 20/20. My friend who had his done elsewhere received followed up phone call, balloons and flowers. I always wonder, if this happened at a different practice, they'd probably cared more. The biggest thing is "IF". Honestly, I doubt it would have happened if I had went somewhere else. The saddest part about this is that the more popular they get, the less personal they become. ----------- I had my Lasik surgery there less than a week ago. My left eye is great, the right eye is not great and will need re-surgery (most likely). I guess I'm one of the [un]lucky ones that didn't get 20/20 in both eyes. Reading is tough and seeing far is tough because my right eye is so weak. Everyone on yelp is correct in their review of Dr. Melki's bedside attitude. Going in I had no issues with it b/c I had expected a perfect surgery. Honestly, when the result wasn't perfect, the bedside attitude is the worst you can get from a surgeon. I walked out feeling defeated, upset, and devastated. No answers were given as to why it happened and no comforting words. Dr. Melki pretty much said "you could be the 3% that need the resurgery". me: " ... " DR Melki: " You don't remember? go re-read the contract it's written on there". Then he in little words, ushered me out to make my 1 month appointment. I went home and re-read everything given to me and nothing says anywhere about the 3% crowd. On the folder they give out at the consult did say 1% of lasik outcome is not 20/25 within 12 months and for lasek it's 3%. I'm assuming this is what he was referring to even though I did not have Lasek. I've tried to find information on a re-surgery on the website but no luck. I'm not sure if it's because it has rarely/never happened or they don't like to post that information. My eyes currently are a huge improvement to what they were before surgery and I will update after I have my resurgery 3 months later. I don't regret the procedure. Be warn, you barely get any time with the doctor. I saw him for 2 minutes the day of the surgery and another 2 minutes the 1 week follow up. I specifically asked for the time he was in the office though. On a side note: I did call the doctor over the weekend that I saw the difference and he sounded a smidge bit more "concerned" so I think he does have some emotion to him. read more

It's like the Wal-Mart of eye doctors. -=Back Story=- One eye was pink for a little while, so I decided to call the Boston Eye Group to see if they have any available appointments in the coming days. They said they had one available that day, I was so relieved and went right there. The place was an absolute mad-house, but nevertheless they took me in. I didn't wait too long "about 20 minutes" and the doctor was very nice. It was a minor infection and she gave me some sample eye drops. Then she said she wanted to see me the following week to check on my eye. I went the following week. I waited for about an hour to see the doctor. When I did see her she shined a light in my eye, said it looked good then I was on my way. Less than 5 minutes. The place was an absolute mad-house; nothing but a patient-farm looking to get people in-and-out. Their administrative staff was an absolute mess that day. And it was a Tuesday, no-less. I paid my co-pay/bill and the rest was submitted to insurance. I never received anything back from them, nor did I receive an EoB from insurance. Fast forward one year, I was charged $200 for the first 20 minute visit and $120 for the 5 minute follow up visit. I had a bill for $320 in collections. Come to find out, they charged me for an emergency visit - which it most definitely was not! And $120 for a 5 minute follow-up? Please. I called the billing department recently and wow were they not the rudest people ever! It looked as though they did not record my address correctly since they received return mail, nor did they have the common sense to call my phone number(s) on file to verify the correct one. (Or even use 'teh Google', but that's asking a bit much, I know) I told them that this was ridiculous as i filled out my in-patient form correctly and even handed the registrant my driver's license and insurance cards. Still she said it was no fault of theirs it's in collections. I asked her to send me the itemized bill. She said fine. But when I asked her to send my patient registration form, she said "she would if she could find it". When I continued to ask about the billing, she just kept saying it's the doctor's prerogative to charge what they want. But all I wanted them to do was justify the "emergency" charge. Still, they would not justify anything. Now, I have paid the bill - and rightfully so since I owe it. But this place is a constant madhouse, filled with incompetent administrative staff, and the rudest billings department ever. Evar. They are a patient-farm that charges a ludicrous amount of money, for sub-standard care and attention. I had a consultation with a less reputable LASIK center about a year ago, truth be told the price came in lower than Boston Laser but everything about it seemed sketchy (my entire eye exam was about 8 minutes and felt like something done in a middle school gym class performed by a salesman.) I held out, saved a little more and came to Boston Laser. The experience and expertise was evident and reassuring (although I did get hit with a gimmicky sales pitch anyway, although I already had made up my mind before that happened.) 10 days out now and my vision has been great since the procedure. I've had barely any side effects (halos lasted only two days, nothing other than that.) So far I can say I'm very happy with the results! read more

Just had Lasik done by Dr. Melki on 5/2. I'll start with the good. The good: I had 20/15 vision in less than 24 hours according to the eye chart. Actually, I could see a lot better as soon after he replaced the corneal flap and put a few eye drops on there. The results speak for themselves. I did a lot of research on this guy. He is really a great doctor IMO because: 1) He does a LOT of procedures, plenty of them recent (i.e. he has had a LOT of practice) 2) He invented or coinvented one of the procedures (Lasek-M I believe). 3) I think I read he was involved with the design of some of the equipment as well. 4) I've heard anecdotally from others he is great. 5) The place is very modern, clean, etc. He obviously is not cheap when it comes to equipment and keeps on on the latest developments. 6) He can answer all the important questions honestly... but you HAVE to ask them! 7) He did a cataracts procedure on Joe DiMaggio 8) There was a good discussion about potential for dry eye, and some other risks, but I felt there could have been a bit more discussion about the risks (like halos and poor contrast in low light). Why else is it good? Everybody there is nice and considerate. Post-Op meds are mostly covered (you have to pay for moisturizing drops after you run out of his samples and copay for the Vigamox. Omnipred is covered. Post-op instructions are easy to follow. The procedure is basically painless (almost). You get valium beforehand. Why not 5 stars? Sometimes Dr. Melki seemed like a typical "I'm in a big rush" doctor. He won't tell you everything unless you ask. Don't let this affect you. These are your eyes we are talking about. Be pushy and ask all the questions you need to and take as much time as you need and you'll be fine. Do your research. Also, I wasn't given enough valium in my opinion. I had a lot of trouble relaxing and I believe this caused my eyes to be redder for longer. Although I pretty much knew what the procedure entailed, I wish that the Dr. would have done a better job talking me through the steps BEFORE he did them. For example, I knew that I would have to look at the laser light as the procedure is performed. However, I did not know the laser was going to be moving around during the procedure. Do I follow the laser with my eye or keep looking at where the laser used to be?? In some ways, the finance/sales guy seemed a bit salesy. I know thats his job and all but.... anyway he was still a nice guy. He even went the extra mile and got me the names and contacts of other people who had it done. They no longer do the procedure with the microkeratome (blade). This should be made clearer in the literature. I think the literature may even be outdated. This means if you are having Lasik you are stuck with the costlier (but supposedly better) IntraLase method. I have a lot of friends who have done Lasik (for around $3k both eyes) with no problems. The person I talked to said they use a the latest special technology ($5k for both eyes). I told him I would rather go with the old technology since I knew many people who had it done for $2k less. He let out a nice condescending laugh as if I was some kind of idiot (ironically, I have a PhD in Biomedical Engineering). Not worth the phone call. read more

I had Lasik done with Boston Laser several months ago and I remain convinced it's one of the best things I have ever spent my money on. I chose Boston Laser based on the good reviews (after much extensive research), and I was very pleased with my whole experience. Using Qualsight, thanks to the recommendation of other Yelp reviews here, I saved $2,000 off the original price of $6,000. My Qualsight representative was also extremely friendly and helpful. The whole process was very simple and efficient. All the staff at Boston Laser were friendly and answered all my questions well. The actual surgery was really easy...in and out with minimal recovery. There are certainly some weird sensations (they very thoughtfully give you a stuffed animal to squeeze during), when the flap is cut and your eyes are lasered, but it's a quick and streamline procedure. After that, I went home and took a nap for several hours and when I woke up...nearly perfect vision. My vision settled and became even more clearer over the next few days. I had a couple weeks of my eyeballs feeling strained, though I work at a computer all day and read it was a fairly common temporary side effect. Dr. Melki also told me that I might see more auras around lights at night (as I have unusually large pupils) and I did find that to be noticeable in the first couple months. However, whether I just got used to them or they went away (I'm not sure), it's not something that I notice anymore or bothers me. My eyes have also not felt strained since and my vision is perfect. It's amazing! I am so happy with my experience with Boston Laser and Qualsight. Your eyes are important enough to spend a chunk of change on and make sure you're going to the best...and having to no longer deal with contacts and glasses worth every penny! read more

I had my LASIK done here 3 weeks ago and I couldnt be happier. everything about them is top notch, from the customer service to the quality of the care to the follow up, everything was better than i expected. Immediately after surgery I was reading street signs on the drive home ( out loud and very annoyingly to my boyfriend who took the day off to take care of me) I woke up able to see perfectly the next morning and have had no issues since. the procedure itself was quick and painless. was it weird and nerve wracking YES! did i experience any pain or discomfort at any time NO!. I was recomended by a friend to go here and it was the best decision I ever made. Like many other reviewers I went through Qualsight and saved about $1,000 off the procedure. the building itself is great, tons of parking and theres tons of public transportation available if needed. the office is clean and friendly, every staff member is happy and friendly and really makes you feel comfortable and at home ( which is hard to do when you think about a laser in your eye) all the staff were great but Rachel in particular was outstanding! she answered every question i had flawlessly and made me feel i was in good hands. she probably sees hundreds of people every day in her office but she remembered both me and my boyfriends names and greeted us by name at each follow up. I had my Lasik Surgery with Dr. Melki approximately a month ago. For Starters, I now have 20/15 vision after having a -8.00 diopters. The procedure was essentially a much longer version of a glaucoma test. There was some general irritation and dryness for a couple days, but nothing more than an inconvenience. I would say the worst part was having to wear silly clear plastic eye patches for the first day. I will say that I agree with other reviewers that the bedside manner is not great at any point in the process. When you go in for a consultation, you are literally dragged from room to room with several waits in the waiting room inbetween. They give out free consultations, which means they probably only convert a small portion of those free consultations into actual surgeries. It can be frustrating, but rest assured that the reason they're so matter of fact about it is because they perform the procedure literally dozens of times a week. At the end of the day, as other people have mentioned, if you have concerns, voice them, they will give you honest answers. If you want someone to hold your hand throughout the process, this may not be the place for you. If you want a consumate staff of professionals who've seen everything get the job done, this is the place to go. It was also much cheaper than the other places I've found in the area. read more

They do a TON of lasik as you can tell from the other reviews, but also do the normal optometry type stuff as well. The reason why they are getting three stars instead of four is that the selection of frames isn't huge, and it's either really cheap or really expensive. I ended up with a nice pair of Vera Wang frames last time, and while not super spendy, a little more than I wanted to spend. read more

I've had two experiences here, one for a basic eye exam and another that was supposed to be a consultation for Lasik. My exe exam was fine. I was examined by a technician and then saw Dr. Nouri. She was very nice and seemed competent, though I got the feeling that she was a bit rushed. The result of my exam was exactly as I expected: same lens prescription I've had for five years. My one complaint was that the technician seemed to be trying to sell me Lasik, which was disappointing. Despite the last sentence, I had been interested in Lasik so I decided to go in for a consultation. When I scheduled it I was told that the initial consultation was a simple (half-hour or so) meeting for which there was no charge. (A second consultation would have been $100 and complete with tests.) Instead of meeting with the doctor who performs the procedure on the first consultation, I was shuttle from exam room to exam room for numerous tests, despite my repeated questions as to why I couldn't just sit down with the doctor. Just before losing my patience, I met with Rick Young, who is the salesman for Lasik (yes, salesman). I spent very little time with him because by then I was over an hour late for work and no longer interested. It is a shame because I have read so many great things about Dr Melki's work but I cannot go forward wth eye surgery in a place that seems to see me as just a number. I'm not sure if I'll go back here for future eye exams, since I would prefer a place that shows more concern for me as a patient. I am still considering Lasik but if I have it done it will be somewhere else. --- UPDATE --- January 14, 2009 --- Yesterday I received a call from Rick Young, the aforementioned Lasik sales/finance/everything-but-the-doctor guy. He said he wanted to apologize for my bad experience after reading my yelp review, and that they were looking to change some of their Lasik consultation and testing procedures in response to a variety of feedback. He also offered to meet again and to waive the $100 fee if I was interested in further testing. This could of course be just a sales ploy - it is a competitive industry - but he sounded genuine, and making procedural changes usually means something. I can't quite give another star (although I thought about it) because I haven't actually been in again. But, bonus points for reading and responding to patient/customer feedback. I'm not sure if I will go back for a Lasik consultation do-over, but it's at least on the table. As other reviewers noted, Dr. Melki is very well known and highly respected in the field, and in the end what matters most is the quality of his work. Either way, a second opinion doesn't hurt for something as sensitive as elective eye surgery. In other news, I was very satisfied with Dr. Geoffrey White of Central Square Eye Care. Can I give more than 5 stars??? Wow this place is literally life changing. No more contact lenses, solution or all the costs/hassles that go with it. Everyone there were top notch and professional. Dr. Melki's expertise is absolutely second-to-none. I had cataract surgery in one eye (sports injury), and LASIK in the other, so I've experienced a breadth of the catalogue offered. My vision went from -7.5 or so (that's 20/800) to 20/20 in one eye and better than perfect, 20/15, in the other. Dr. Melki was honest, to the point, and answered my random emailed questions in minutes, even when i sent them very late at night. The facilities are clean, the staff is polite. Know, however, that you aren't going into your childhood's eye doctor's office. This is a pretty massive operation, and you could see upwards of 5 or 6 medical professionals in a visit. I felt a little passed around - not a very personal experience. They have at least four waiting rooms, depending on what tests you need, if your eyes are dilating, etc. It's as efficient as possible, but don't expect you'll have the attention of the highest chieftains for more than absolutely necessary. And, as ever, take your medical experience into your own hands. Dr. Melki didn't describe every detail of upcoming my experience because he's not a mind-reader and because he'll laser a LOT of eyes each Friday (I think my eye was #44), so I had to make a point of sending emails to the office when I thought of something. And sitting on the gurney for my cataract surgery (Melki does those at hospitals, not at the clinic), the instructions the hospital had were for the WRONG EYE. But Boston Laser's paperwork were for the correct eye, which was a comfort. It took some time to change the instructions. But then they put a tiny stitch on the front of my eye that i couldn't see or feel and they removed the next day, but I still feel totally metal. There seemed to be a lot of post-procedure checkups, which was good, even if Brookline is a pain for me to get to. I feel very well taken care of. I didn't even mention yet - I LOVE MY NEW EYES. I thought that since I've worn contacts every day since I was 10 (that's 23 years, people) that I must not notice my contacts. I was wrong. An itch here, a lens adjustment there, extra fast blinking to clear something up, stinging after taking them out. I had no idea how much I thought about them! read more

Got LASIK in Feb 2013. Dr Melki and his associates were wonderful. Got LASIK at 730. In 12 minutes I was done, but they do keep you there another 30 minutes and the fellow checks on you before leaving. Went home and it felt like my eyes burned a bit after but other than that no pain. Slept for 4 hours then woke up and had 20/20 vision. The consultation did take about 3 hours but honestly it went by so fast. Dr Melki only does surgeries on Fridays so I had to wait two weeks until I had another day off. By Saturday I was back at work and they were accompdating by taking me in Saturday for my 1 day follow up at 11am. Overall everyone was kind helpful and I actually referred my sister as well!! read more

Haven't been back since my last appt in August which was my 3 month follow up. The one doctor I liked..(I think her name was Dr.Wu or Wong?)well she left!!!! I was so mad because I loved her. I got Lasek and had a really bad week after the surgery, wasn't able to reach 20/20 vision but I am damn close to it and that's all I need. Originally I was told that I could have the procedure repeated if I wanted to get 20/20 but NO THANKS! My vision is great and I don't think I need to do it agan. Just thought I would update my vision status. My eyes do get dry at night and when I first wake up but the Genteal eye drops help alot. Overrall, I'm glad I got the procedure done b/c I'm done with contacts and glasses for a very long time!!! The place is ok, staff are ok, the procedure cost is good compared to other places like MEEI. I would still recommend this place b/c I got great results. read more

I am a pilot and had my surgery almost two years ago after doing considerable research on this and chose to go with Dr. Melki. Of course, every step of the way, you are always told you will still need reading glasses after the surgery. I am in my mid-40's. I even had to sign a release form the day of the surgery to that effect. Of course they wait until the day of. I was very disappointed with my results at first because my distance vision in my right eye wasn't nearly as good as my left eye- it even had a slightly blurry ghost image. It didn't really affect my distance vision with both eyes open because my other eye was eagle sharp. It took me a long time to appreciate the tremendous value that that comes from having my right eye perfect for reading and computer work- AND I HAVE ONLY USED MY READING GLASSES FOR ABOUT 30 SEC IN ALMOST TWO YEARS. I COULD NOT BE HAPPIER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And I see much better than I did before for distance than I did with contacts or glasses. They could have done a better job on the follow-up and better explained what was going on and why, especially with my right eye. This was not the plan and strategy discussed with the Dr. Melki's assistant Dr. before the surgery, so I really have no idea why it came out this way. All I can say is that based on my N of one, Dr. Melki is a genius and I highly recommend them. One of their assistants is so smokin' that to see her with light unadulterated by polycarbonate was worth the $1000s in and of itself. They offer two pills to calm you before the surgery. Consider taking just one. Its better to be a little hyped so that you focus well on the white light during the surgery. They could have also explained how to do that better before the surgery too. read more

Had Lasik surgery done today by Dr. Sood, it was a great experience!! Dr. Sood was so soothing, she really talked me through the surgery and made it so much easier. I was seen promptly both at my consultation and my surgery. Dr. Sood even had my eyes checked again just before surgery, she is very thorough.. which I really appreciated... because it's your EYES! All of the staff were genuinely nice and very accommodating. I know, it's soon to be posting; but I am so excited. I was able to see walking out of the office. I went in for a consult on Wednesday and had my surgery, today.. (the following Friday). Will post updates. I had LASIK eye surgery on both eyes on February 22nd 2019 and had a great experience at Boston Laser. I went to the Boston location for each appointment including the surgery. Everyone is very friendly and they do their best to put you at ease about the procedure. It is a little impersonal as you are shuffled from room to room for prep but I am fine with that. It feels like a very routine and regular process for them which helped my nerves. The actual surgery is very fast and everything went smoothly. I can now see 20/20. Dr Melki and his entire staff were great. From the first time I set foot in the office, I felt comfortable and was put at ease. I had LASIK there and could see great after waking up from a nap following the surgery. Dr. Melki has done over 9000 surgeries and I'd recommend him to everyone. I went in to Boston Laser expecting a routine eye exam that is covered by my vision insurance every 12 months. Instead, they decided to give me a medical eye exam against my will and knowledge. I was charged nearly $400 for them to tell me everything was good. I then proceeded to call them at least 8 times over the course of 2 months. Finally, someone from my vision insurance (NOT A REP FROM BOSTON LASER) told me they gave me a medical eye exam instead of a routine exam. This is the second time this happened to me at this place. Never using them again. I hope no one else has to go through this. Complete non-disclosure of full fees. I feel scammed. However, they did help me out after I pressed them. I had Lasik done her with Groupon and it is hands down the best decision I have ever made. It was 3k, and worth every penny, If I knew it would be this good I would have paid the 6k years ago. I had glasses for distance, nothing to serious but bad enough to where I wanted Lasik. Dr. M is amazing, and makes you very comfortable with his skill, experience, and calmness about the whole thing. From start to finish it is a little time consuming, it is worth every second. You should plan to be there for 2-3 hours for the consultation, and 1-2 hours on the day of the surgery. Aftercare is very simple, and I have had NO problems what so ever with the surgery. You will wait in the waiting room for a decent amount of time, but once they get to you its a process so hang on its 100% worth it. read more

I had LASIK done in October of 2012. The whole process went really smoothly. They worked with my schedule (I lived and worked in Providence) to be able to accommodate me and the necessary travel time. My initial examinations were straight forward; Dr Melki listened to my concerns and then explained the procedure very clearly, possible side effects, and how the healing process would work. At my appointment, the whole thing took less than an hour. I had a friend take me home. The next day, I was able to drive myself to my follow up appointment! My eyes continued to get better over the next several days until I ended up with 20/15 vision! And I was able to pay for it with an interest free loan over the following year. I am so glad I chose Boston laser for my lasik surgery. I had the procedure done 1/26 and could see immediately! What an incredible feeling. My follow up the next day was brief but I already had 20/20 vision. I was very nervous about the procedure and they were all patient for my questions and provided a lot of information before the procedure. The Valium they gave me before the procedure helped and the whole thing happened so fast I barely had time to feel nervous about moving. Dr. Melki and his staff were very efficient and thorough. They put you through a group of exams to make sure you qualify for Lasik and after that you can decide on when /if you want to schedule the procedure. They will provide you with a packet of reading materials that will answer most of your questions. I had a question the week prior to my procedure and Dr. Melki called me on my cell phone to answer my question on Mono-Vision. The actual procedure was quicker than i thought and there was no pain at all and quick recovery. I had no gritty or dry eyes the day after. My distance vision is the way it was , but now I don't need glasses. I can read and see my phone, but for close up or extended reading, I am using readers ( anyone over the age of 40 can understand this). Parking at the Brookline location can be a challenge with only on street meter parking available, but worth it for the outcome and using Boston Laser. read more

I recently visited their office for an eye exam. I have been there once before but the office looks even better after their renovations. I found the staff to be very friendly and knowledgeable and Dr. Melki was great! He is friendly, direct and to the point, which I like. I can tell he is very confident in the information he is giving me. I have had some friends who have gone here and have had great results with LASIK and Cataracts. I would highly recommend Boston Laser/Boston Eye Group for any of your vision needs. Also, Harry helped me get me a cool pair of sunglasses. It's like one stop shopping for your eyes.
