I would rank this business as 0 if I could. 1. This place is dusty, dirty and disorganized. I think this is part of the problem with their service. 2. Ask for a receipt, this should have been a red flag that I was not given one. 3. I dropped off a wall clock to be repaired in October. For two months, I was told every time I called to check in, "I need one more day, call me tomorrow." or "I will have it done by Friday, call me then." Eventually, two months passed and no progress. 4. I went to physically to the store, rather than calling, and picked up the wall clock today. The owner NEVER touched it. In two months of dragging me along, he then said he could order a part and start working on it. This is the most absurd suggestion I have yet to receive. I work in retail, and I understand that things happen, we all drop the ball from time to time. But I cannot understand why he would lie and drag this out for two months and not do any repairs on the clock at all. It was a colossal waste of time. My advice, go to another business. read more

I brought my woman's Movado high end 14k gold watch to be repaired. The watch repairman took the watch in his hand and in a matter of seconds informed what needed to be done, the costs and given the option of returning in one hour. When I returned, the watch was ready and working. I was advised that the work was guaranteed for 1 year. Prior to going here, I had taken the watch to the jeweler that I purchased it from. He was unable to repair it and recommended that I take it to a skilled watch repairman. I was very impressed with how quickly and accurately he was able to diagnose a circuit issue and repair it. The cost was very reasonable. I have found a gem and will be returning if the need ever arises. read more

I took my grandfather's 50 year old watch in to be repaired and I said that the face plate might need to be replaced because it was scratched really badly. He shook his head and said no, no, they don't make them like this anymore! He buffed out all the scratches and boy does it look great. I live in Brookline but this was one of the best reviewed places *nearby.* I walked in and the husband + wife duo were working on other jewelry at the time. I showed the lady my watch--just wanted a sense if it could be fixed and hopefully get a price estimate before I committed. She was getting the order form ready, but saw my watch and I guess realized it would be a relatively quick fix (my seconds arm had come off + battery was dead). So she dropped what she was doing, took my watch, sat down, and just started working on it. No words exchanged. Luckily, they have some Boston magazines there and I even found some cool restaurants I may want to try. The whole thing probably took 10mins-tops. Watch was fixed and battery replaced!! $10. I first visited BW&CR during my freshman year of college to get a spring bar replaced and band resized. If I recall correctly, the total cost was under $5. Many years later, I've started to acquire a watch collection, so when my newest eBay purchase needed a new crystal and a full service, I decided to go back to the little watch shop I remembered. The work is solid and significantly less expensive than other shops. My vintage Seiko looks nearly as good and performs nearly as well as it did when it rolled off the production line in 1975 - I've included a before and after photo. Took today to another watch repair place and in front of me he tested battery -- DEAD. I called concerned this happened. Did not even ask for money back yet and was hung up on twice by female owner. Told i could come in for money back as i still had receipt but could not offer explanation. Plus they set correct time on watch before returning to customer and watch has seconds hand that was not moving. Mistakes happen. I get that. Bottom Line: $180 to service Omega Speed Master, 4 business days turnaround -- that's 1/2 the price Omega or any local jeweler I found in Boston was going to charge me! Quality work! Pros: quality work, done when promised, relatively inexpensive, Thanh has been doing this for over 30 years (the watch repair man) Cons: no credit card accepted, but cash or personal check was fine. not really a big con. Also the Yelp map is totally wrong. 333 Washington is in downtown crossing across from Marshalls and close to Borders Books. I brought in my Omega Speedmaster which had been losing minutes a day for years. When I bought the $2000 watch I did not realize it required a tune up and service every 4 years. Long's Jewelers quoted me $400 to send it back to Omega in Switzerland. I even called Omega directly, but they were uncourteous (damn Swiss!) and brief with me. When I read the reviews here, I thought I would give it a try! The quote was $180 so I said yes! The watch was serviced and even polished as promised 4 business days later! Thanh, the repairman, also replaced the battery in my Polar heart rate monitor watch (used for running/jogging) for $7, a service that costs $20+ with Polar (one of the tiny screws was stripped, otherwise Thanh would have charged $1 or $2, but he needed to carefully remove it and put it back in.) I walked in today with two watches: both needed new batteries and one needed two links removed from the strap. The shopkeep is one of few words, which naturally caused me to socially overcompensate and have this conversation with myself, out loud, as he tinkered with something behind the counter: "Do you fix watches? Of course you do. Watches are like clocks! Look at that clock! Clocks." I managed to stop before commenting on the smell of the shop; it's a lovely musty old-timey smell that is reminiscent, I imagine, of a phone-free time long, long ago when watches were proudly worn by all. He asked me to come back in 30 minutes, which allowed me ample time to mosey down the block to Chipotle, wait in line for 25 minutes, and swallow a burrito in same manner as a python might swallow an alligator. When I returned, everything was done! He even put my two extra links in a little baggie, like adorable inedible leftovers. I had my band pin break on my Tag, so of course if I go to a Tag Dealer they have to send it to Switzerland for 'evaluation' and then repair. Needless to say this is wildly unacceptable. Walked into Boston Watch & Clock 20 minutes before they closed on Saturday, the gentleman had a look at the band, produced a box of band pins, affixed his magnifying monocle and went to work. Ten minutes later I was presented with my repaired watch, total cost - $5. Beat that. Would definitely go back and recommend them. This has to be the single greatest Yelp-enabled find, EVER! Even though this shop was a good 40 minute commute by T, it was totally worth it...especially in light of all the horrifying reviews I read about the watch repair place in Porter Square (much closer to where I live) that I had originally been planning to use. The place is small and humble-looking, even though there is a sign saying that they specialize in Rolex watches. They do not accept plastic, it's a cash-only business. Owner and technician is a Vietnamese man in his fifties or early sixties at most, he is laconic and slightly brusque but I got the distinct impression it was simply his preferred method of conducting business, not due to any personal nastiness or malice. He does speak English plenty adequate to the demands of his work, that's for sure. Overall his professionalism, speed and skill were simply impeccable. And most shockingly of all: his PRICES!!! I though I had just stepped into a time machine transporting me to perhaps the Boston of the 1980s or early 90s, rather than the overpriced boutique-pandering, hyper-gentrified city it's become in the last 10-20 years. For replacing the batteries of two watches, shortening the metal band of a third, and---by far the most skill-intensive task---re-regulating the automatic mechanism of a fourth watch (all of this done within the span of 20 minutes, tops) he charged me about 1/2 or 1/3 of what I was expecting from my previous watch store experiences! WONDERFUL! I bought this really really really really great antique watch at a consignment store, but it didn't wok. I loved it so much I bought it anyway in hopes to find a place that could fix it. I prepared myself for a ridiculous cost to fix my watch because it was old and I didn't know how broken it was. Only complaint was that while I was waiting for the owner to finish up with a customer, another customer came to pick up some watches, and the owner spent quite a while (at least 15 minutes) helping out that customer who arrived after me when he could easily have taken care of my watch (it took less than 5 minutes once he got to it), especially since I'd gotten there first. The real mark of a good watch repair place is whether or not they can actually fix watches, not replace batteries. I brought a busted watch with complex chinese movement into this repair shop recently. The date wheel wouldn't move at all, and was stuck between two numbers. The owner tirelessly tried to fix this watch, and he really wanted to be successful. He had my watch for almost two weeks, and he kept telling me to come back. The only reason it is not 5-stars is because I did not like being told to come back over and over without explanation. To get it back, I had to give him an ultimatum of a final time that I would come and get it fixed or not. Low and behold, I showed up that final time and my watch was fixed. I know it's tough for him, since English is not his first language, but I am pretty easy going. I don't know how many people would want to leave a watch, expensive or not, for a place for WEEKS without too much explanation of what's going on. He only charged me $20, as well. That seemed amazing to me. Either way, the watch was fixed, and that's the true thing I am rating here. read more
