I also have a solar Seiko, and could have replaced the capacitor (stores the electricity from the solar watchface) - but I haven't decided on that. I was in need of changing the battery in my wife's Movado watch. While visiting family in Massachusetts, I had the pleasure of visiting this shop in Waltham Massachusetts. For those of you who don't know, the town of Waltham is known as Watch City because of its association with the watch industry. In 1854, Waltham Watch Company opened a factory in town and it was the first company to make watches on an assembly line. In short, this is the best watch repair business in Watch City. The shop is owned by a husband and wife team. They are friendly, professional, and extremely knowledgeable. Chris, does the repairs and when you talk to him it's like you're interfacing with a cross between a Watch, encyclopedia and historian. A new battery did not fix my wife's watch. Unfortunately, the movement was shot. I was very impressed that they refused to take my money for the battery as it didn't resolve the issue and they didn't charge me for the diagnostic. moreover, Chris offered to help find a reputable repair person for me back in Miami. We were so impressed with his honesty and expertise that we decided to send the watch to him back in Massachusetts. He was able to replace the movement and the watch is not working beautifully. Ordered a vintage (1976) Citizens watch and was horrified about the purchase after a sub-dial hand popped off inside the case shortly after it arrived. Took it here the next morning. The owner and his wife were extremely helpful and knowledgeable. They confirmed it can happen occasionally in transit and explained that it may need to be repaired long-term. Chris is the best. Now, if you want everything on Amazon Prime time, this may not be your jam. It'll take some time. They have a long backlog, because how many skilled watch experts are there out there anymore? But they'll take the time to get it right. I smashed the crystal against a rockface while hiking (I know, shoulda left it home...) so needed a new crystal. Chris found a replacement and put it on, but it didn't look quite perfect, so he scoured around the world for an original crystal. I also needed a new band, and he didn't have sizes in stock, so he ordered a few and saved a couple that he thought I'd like. Grabbed a beautiful thinner band that really makes the inexpensive watch pop. Very satisfied with the result, and very fair pricing. It's a simple mechanical watch I have. Got it so be able to play with and manually adjust the time - needs an adjustment every couple days. As Chris notes, it's cool to think that it's your own kinetic energy being stored and powering time itself. Exactly why mechanical watches are so fun. Time should be made to work for you. After reading rave reviews here and on local community groups on Facebook, I brought in 3 heirloom clocks. Although the shop was busy, they sure to see me as soon as possible, including on the spot diagnosis on whether they could fix each one, approximate time and expense. On one clock, they felt that someone else who specialized in that type of clock could fix better than they would and gave me the name and place-- I love that, for a business/organization to know what they're great at and if outside their wheelhouse, confident and helpful to suggest somewhere else-- wish more places did that-- would save everyone a lot of time and expense!). One another clock, they showed me how to wind it, etc. so I can monitor it at home for the next week to see whether it needed to be fixed. On another clock, they cleaned, changed the battery and I left with a working clock. On all 3, I learned a bit about the history of the clock and ROI of fixing it. It seemed unlikely to me that this place could be as good as all the reviews say, but it really is. I brought in a clock and a watch that weren't running. Chris was incredibly knowledgeable and honest about what he could do to try to fix the clock, what parts he would need, and how much it was likely to cost. He was also very forthright in saying that if it were his clock, he probably wouldn't bother. He took some links out of my watch for a very reasonable price, and he let me know that it didn't need a new battery; it just needs to be worn in order to self-wind. (I did--and do--feel like a bit of an idiot, but that's obviously on me, not him.) I saw Chris and Christine helping other customers in an equally honest and helpful manner. In and out in under 10 minutes. The guy who owns the shop is a clock nerd, and who better for watch care? I only needed a battery replaced on my Tissot, and afterwards he showed me how to work some of the components that would extend battery life -- the exact opposite of those snakes at the old Harvard Square watch shop. Also, only $12? I'll get all my watch work done here from now on. The one dude with the negative review doesn't make sense. The watch's warranty expired, so he had Watertown Watch Repair fix it. It didn't hold, so they fixed it again for free, all after the warranty expired and Timex wouldn't replace it... no love for the guys that are extending your watch's life beyond what the manufacturers will support? Geeze. I feel like the negative review could just as easily read "I received a Timex watch which broke after the warranty expired. Watertown Watch Repair fixed it, and after it broke again, fixed it for free! Thanks for helping me out where Timex wouldn't, and standing by your work!" I love this place! The owner was super nice! He looked at several novelty watches from the 90's for me and put batteries in. Only charged me for the batteries in the watches that worked, didn't charge me for the new batteries he put in if the watch didn't work. He did a small repair for me also. He told me one of the watches might start working because he could hear it ticking and adviced me to wear it and said it might help it get going. I didn't think it would start working but it did! I will definitely be returning any time I need something done. He was obviously really knowledgeable and he worked quickly. I was in and out in reasonable time. Spent half of what I thought I would and really enjoyed my time there. I loved that I got to watch him work on the watches right in front of me!
