The manufacturer had gone out of business some time during the last 150 years, and we could not buy a replacement spring. What a pleasant experience I had at Dvin Jewelers! I needed to have a battery exchanged in my Movado watch, which is about 25 yrs old, but still working fine. At Dvin's, the owner did not just exchange the battery, he actually looked to see if there was any dust or dirt bild-up inside the watch, cleaned it out, and since he found moisture inside recommended to first dry the inside out before inserting a new battery. He gave me the opened watch and parts to take home to dry out (which he could have done, but he suggested it would save me money to do that myself). I returned 2 days later and he replaced the battery for quite a reasonable price. I love small businesses, especially ones with great service. So a little background. I love watches. I have to many. I have spend too much money on them. But hey, I love watches. Well, most watches run on batteries. And batteries die. And the watch needs a new battery. Well, I have had several jewelers not want to replace my watch batters, and frankly, it sucks having to send a watch back to CT of CA or SWITZERLAND to get a new battery! I was out for a run one day, and saw Dvin Jewelers. I stopped in with four watches. It was an older couple running it. He looked at them, told me to come back the next day. He had his work table, all his specific tools. Replaced the batteries on all four (relatively) high end watches. perfect! Oh yeah, and he charged $8 each - including the battery. I talked to them more. They are Armenian, and we started talking food a lot (although I am not Armenian, I cook a decent amount of Armenia and middle eastern and Mediterranean food). Then we started talking about whiskey - then brandy! and he INSISTED I go buy some Armenian Brandy, that it is the BEST Brandy. You know what, he was right Good peple, good service, great prices. I only interacted with Dvin for about 1 minute (that's how long it took for him to change my watch battery), and I can say that he's the most adorable, friendly guy ever! He was really excited at how small my watch is, and how small the battery is. He even showed me a regular watch battery next to mine for comparison. He was very fast, but at the same time I could see how careful he was, and also set the time for me and made sure that it was actually working. I highly recommend Dvin! This place is a hidden gem (pun intended). I first discovered them about a year ago when I needed a couple of links removed from a watch strap. Not only did they take care of that for me on the spot for me... they didn't charge me! More recently, I broke the safety chain on a gold bracelet that has a great deal of sentimental value. I of course took it to Dvin to be fixed. He suggested two methods of repairing it, and I went with his recommendation. It came out perfectly, and it was done the same day I dropped it off. The repair was reasonably priced, but more importantly, the couple (I assume they are the owners), are both friendly, lovely people who take such obvious pride in their work. I needed to get two watch batteries replaced and my diamond engagement ring and wedding band cleaned. I wouldn't go there for a jewelry cleaning again (Dvin's wife put the rings on a hook in a machine that soaked it in solution while vibrating, with mixed results), but the battery replacements were great. Dvin and his wife are such a sweet, sweet couple and he was able to switch out the batteries, set the time, and replace a broken screw in the back of my watch in minutes. I paid by card with his Square reader and left him a tip (through the Square app) and he was so confused. He kept on looking at the total and saying that something wrong must have happened, the amount I was charged was not right. I then explained to him that I had left him a tip, and he looked so genuinely touched. He gave me a huge bear hug and said that I would get a "special price" whenever I returned. You can just tell that they are honest and genuine people and I wish there were more local businesses like this. read more

Horoun and Rita are an adorable Armenian couple that have over 35 years experience (about 20 at the location in Belmont) in the business. They are friendly, knowledgeable and most importantly honest. I've sold a bunch of odd gold and jewelry here and they always give me the best price possible. If a diamond is broken he'll take out his magnifier and show me exactly what he's seeing. They were unreliable. I brought in a watch to get a new battery and strap. They did an ok job with the battery, but the strap was poorly done and poor quality. Within hours the leather had worn through, it was inflexible and cracked slightly, and the clasp broke the first time I (gently) took it off. read more

Truly outstanding service and workmanship at this charming little jewelry shop conveniently located on Belmont St. in Belmont. The proprietor and his wife offer warm welcomes when you arrive and, if things can be fixed fast, do it on the spot. I took a fistful of broken or wrong-sized pieces of jewelry that have needed fixing for years to Dvin a couple weeks ago. Within a week or so, everything was fixed and looking fabulous. My mom's ring was resized and the work was beautiful. Several earrings were shortened or repaired, and got new silver loops that made them even more interesting than before. The jeweler works quickly, calls you when the work is done, and has even offered to stay late if I was unable to make it to the shop before closing. Highly recommended. I bring a watch to get a battery, a bracelet to get restrung, a necklace to get restrung. I bring them in 3 weeks ago because I need these items for a wedding. The guy tells me he will call me the next day. He does not. I wait and wait. Finally, I call, and they have taken a vacation for 2 weeks! I am fine with them taking a vacation, but not when I needed these items and they knew it. Also, now there is no way for me to get my jewelry back to have someone else do the work. I always bring my watches here but happened to be out shopping near GVS Jewelers and thought I'd save time and have him replace my watch battery. What a mistake. He broke the watch, didn't tell me, and wanted to keep it, saying he didn't have the battery he needed in stock. I am so happy I took back my watch and brought it to Dvin.
