Something was biting me ALL night long, both nights…read more The floors are extremely thin and I was up listening to the people upstairs walk, run and crash (off their bed?..) all night. (Luckily just the first night - but the mites/fleas got me both nights.) The lobby, elevators and hallways smell AWFULLY - I mean it just absolutely REEKS - of artificial, stifling air freshener, AND WITH A BIG CHEAP SCENTED CANDLE BURNING ON TOP OF THAT - and the rooms smell of that gross Southern gas station mop cleaner. When I asked for a different room because the first smelled like sewage, the front desk lady stared at me like she had no idea what to do. When I reexplained the situation, she claimed there were no rooms available because they were fully booked. When I explained that I KNOW that unless I was the very LAST person to check in, there were rooms available that she could move around, she grudgingly changed the room. When that one reeked too, she again lied and said there were no rooms; when it was clear I wasn't going back to the smelly room, she magically found another. As another reviewer stated, the bathroom door design is bad, such that the door doesn't fully open and you have to crawl over the toilet to get to the sink. The toilet didn't flush well. The towels had all this gross long black fake hair on them and they, and the sheets, smelled of cologne/perfume. Though they advertise the rooms as having kitchens, there's no stove or oven; it's just a larger fridge, a small kitchen sink, some dishes and towels (all dirty and gross - bring your own); paper towels and counter space. And a microwave. The poolside rooms are loud with kids yelling till 11 pm. The good thing was the fridge actually got cold; and the A/C was only mildewy for the first 5 minutes and after that smelled fine. The mites in the bed and ungodly stink of the lobby were deal killers. Strongly recommend staying somewhere else if you're at all sensitive to either one.

Breakfast was great but as with any hotel, don't get there five minutes before breakfast is over and expect all of the items to be available. In my opinion, you have no reason to complain if you wait till the last minute to get up. I would definitely stay at this location again and recommended to others.

A couple minor things, but that's just me. Nothing to detract from the overall experience. The staff were all exceedingly friendly and willing to help. Everyone I interacted with was smiling and cheerful. They have free cookies at the front desk in the afternoon, so when you come in after working all day you can have a cookie! Shout out to Melody working the morning breakfast and the front desk simultaneously. She was waaaay too perky so early in the morning! The hotel feels very modern. It seems to be very well kept. All the fixtures, furnishings, elevators, carpets, etc. were in good repair. The lobby and common areas were spotlessly clean. The door locks and keys worked well. Minimal misfires with the key cards. My room was fresh smelling and also very clean. The AC worked very well. Towels and linens were fresh and decent. One interesting thing if you are a member of BW Rewards. If you are willing to forego the housekeeping service, they will credit your account with 500 bonus points for each day you do. There was a card to hang on the door to let the maids know. Needless to say, this has likely become my go-to hotel when I am in the area again. I am a fan!

I've been here a few times and I thought they bought them from a bakery (because they're kind of fancy) Nope. They bake them fresh. When they told me that, my mind was blown. They even gave a meh Chinese Buffet next door that we hit up TWICE because it's popular with kidlets. The defunct mall also has a Sears still going and a cool comic book store. Best of all it has a cheap movie theatre. Score! I know some folks give out five star reviews like Kardashians take selfies. I try and make sure that 5 stars from me means something, especially if it's something you are going to spend a chunk of money on...like a hotel. Now to preface this: Last year we stayed at a dreadful place in Kemah that, to this day, gives me nightmares. This time I went out of my way to try to find the best deal on a great hotel. The reason this one popped up was because Texas City is strategically placed between Houston & Galveston and most people want to spend a bunch to stay near the water. Newsflash: Most of those hotels are stuff Gordon Ramsay's Hotel Hell are made of. Being close to the not-so-blue waters of Galveston typically means mold, smelly and expensive. I've had enough of paying inflated prices for places to sleep. Texas City may not be on water but it's a much better value. The hotel is weirdly situated next to defunct Ryan's Buffett and The Mall of the Mainland, which used to be a mall and is now better suited for you to hide in if the plot of Walking Dead takes place. It's HUGE BTW. The hotel itself is small, having three floors and one ice maker, a guest laundry room and a very small indoor pool (a pivotal thing for my family) and business center. We were greeted with friendly employees and a personalized chocolate bar with my name on it (nice touch). Now...I'm used to cleaning my hotel rooms before I use them, as I'm a weird one when it comes to sleeping in foreign places, but to my amazement the room was SPOTLESS. I'm talking you could eat off the bathroom floor (a.k.a. Terri's New Years spot) kind of clean. All the things I had requested (and was prepared to gripe about not getting) were there! Extra pillows, blankets, conditioner...it was all there! They put a hairdryer in the closet in case you go looking. We stayed for 4 nights and each day we returned to a perfectly clean room. We left tips each day and the staff always left a sweet card of thanks. The a/c was a freaking champ! After being out in 100 degree weather we returned to a perfect 68 degree room (I turned it down more at night) and chilly drinks thanks to the mini fridge. There's a microwave downstairs but not in room. You get HBO and a bunch of cable channels. The breakfast was better than expected. Real eggs, cheese omelets, bacon AND sausage, a waffle maker and cereal, fruit, coffee....it's all there. There's only one waffle maker so there's a bit of a wait there. Even though they have a 9 am close time for breakfast each day the sweet lady who refilled things made sure everyone who came down got food, even if they arrived at 9:05. I can tell you this hotel on my stay was quiet. The last night we stayed more people started arriving and it did start to get louder, but nothing that made me insane. We stayed during the week because it's cheaper. It's also less crowded. Free WiFi (choose the free option when you arrive, and be careful because there's a $5 a day option...it's the same speed) free parking and free breakfast at $80 a night make this an easy five stars. The employees were all impeccable and again...it's hard to find some place this clean. We will return!

I came with a friend for a girls' weekend from Friday to Sunday. I had stayed here before, but…read moredidn't get to spend much time enjoying the hotel itself so this trip was a completely different experience. This property is a remodeled motel that has been transformed into a really charming boutique hotel. They did an incredible job with the design and atmosphere. It feels trendy, relaxed, and unlike anywhere else in Galveston in my opinion. We arrived Friday night and had an amazing dinner at The Fancy. On Saturday, we spent the entire day at the pool enjoying drinks and appetizers, and on Sunday morning we grabbed breakfast tacos at the bar before heading back to Houston. From the moment we arrived, we received such a warm welcome from the staff. Everyone was friendly and helpful throughout our stay. Any questions we had or small issues that came up were answered and resolved right away which made the whole experience feel effortless! The service throughout our stay was great and the food and drinks were just as good. One thing we couldn't stop talking about was how comfortable the pillows were. We slept amazinggggg! We were in bed pretty early each night but we were woken up both nights by noise from neighboring rooms. It sounded like people coming in late and moving around. You can definitely hear doors opening and closing, cabinets shutting, and general hallway noise, etc. It wasn't a huge deal for me since I can usually fall back asleep easily but it's something worth mentioning for lighter sleepers. We stayed in a double queen balcony room which was spotless and had plenty of space for both of us. The balcony itself was a little awkward because it overlooks the pool area and since its a small hotel it felt like you were practically hanging out with everyone at the pool when you stepped outside. Next time I probably wouldn't pay extra for the balcony. The pool was clean, the atmosphere was great, and they played fun music all day. The only downside was drink service. Most of the time we had to go inside to order drinks ourselves. Someone did come take our order poolside once but it wasn't consistent. There was live music on the rooftop both Friday and Saturday night which was such a nice touch, especially around sunset. Parking was a little tricky because the hotel was busy when we arrived for the live music but we got lucky with a spot close by. The guy who checked us in let me know he would go out there and help me find a spot if I was not able to find one so although we didnt end up needing him, it was cool of him to offer. Overall, this hotel is so hip, cute, and unique. It honestly feels like you're not even in Texas. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a fun and stylish place to stay in Galveston.

Hotel Lucine is cute, the service and employees are amazing, and food is pretty good! There are a few things to consider while staying here.. 1. The rooms close to the seawall have paper thin walls and it can be loud at night if you care about that 2. The pool is small (the pictures I saw were misleading on IG) no bar outside, but you do get poolside service drink and food 3. They do allow dogs here- in case that's not your thing 4. The bed was kind of stiff and uncomfortable, and TV's are really small in the room 5. My favorite part about the hotel is the rooftop and bands that play- such a vibe, good drinks and energy! I would def come back to see what bands play- when the sun sets and it's windy it's so nice! 6. The bars close at 11 on site- I was hoping it would at least stay open till midnight on a holiday night 7. The price of this hotel is expensive overall, it was higher than the St Luis for July 4, with that being said it wasn't worth the price overnight but def worth the visit for the rooftop band, drinks and food, employees and service! 8. The room at night is really hot- the ac is smaller and the window to the balcony will make the room hot - keep the curtains closed all day 9. The fish dip, "ceviche" dish were delicious! Get those to snack on! 10. We used the beach chairs on the beach from Lucine, no full bar, or food but hopefully soon. Also, it's a lot of greenery that needs to be cleaned up.. not fun to sit in grass on the beach.. Overall nice place, but I would not stay again over night at the price point I paid. I would def come back to eat/drink/listen to a band on the rooftop. I am giving the hotel 4 stars due to the employees and food. If I took Those options out- I would have given it a 3 stars review for the price point I paid.
