We called to make a reservation for brunch on Sunday at The Fancy. After two calls that were never answered, we finally had to call the front desk who said they would let the restaurant staff know to call us back but nobody did. We decided to try walking in despite never getting a hold of them and were told that it was fully booked for a private event. It would've been helpful if someone had at least communicated that to us before taking the long drive there. Such a shame since it's really such a nice hotel. read more

Hotel Lucine was a wonderful experience and easily one of the nicest boutique hotels we've stayed at in Galveston. From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel welcome. Edward Duffin handled our check-in and made everything easy. He has a very warm, friendly personality and immediately made us feel at home. Throughout the stay, he was always helpful, always had a kind word, and never seemed too busy to answer a question or just chat for a minute. That kind of thing really does make a difference. We ate at The Fancy both nights, and the restaurant definitely deserves the name. The food was outstanding. Paula was our server both evenings and she was fantastic. We weren't quite sure what we wanted, so we asked her for recommendations both nights. She knew the menu very well, and everything she suggested was right on point. She was attentive without hovering, which I always appreciate. Seyma, the restaurant manager, also made our stay extra special. It was my wife's birthday, and somehow she knew. I'm still not sure how, but she went out of her way to make the evening feel special for her. She also helped us out twice with our dinner plans. The first evening, we didn't have a reservation and she was still able to get us seated. The second night, we did have a reservation but needed to push the time back, and again she was able to accommodate us. Both times she handled it with a smile and never made us feel like we were causing a problem. We even had the chance to talk with the General Manager, Jorin, for a few minutes. That stood out to me because you really don't see that very often. A GM taking the time to actually talk with guests says a lot about the way a hotel is run. I spent about 15 years working in hotels myself, so I probably notice some things that other guests might not think much about. I know how hard it is to have good service across an entire property, and that was one of the things that impressed me most here. It wasn't just the front desk or the restaurant. From The Fancy to the rooftop bar, the lobby bar, and everyone we dealt with in between, the staff was professional, friendly, and genuinely welcoming. Our room was clean and comfortable. I had seen a few comments about the beds being on the firmer side, but personally, I liked the mattress. I'd much rather have a supportive bed than one of those old hotel mattresses with a permanent dip in the middle where you feel like you're trying to sleep in a mud pit. What I liked most about Hotel Lucine is that it feels stylish without being stuffy or pretentious. It has a relaxed atmosphere, great food, and most importantly, a really good team of people. A big thank you to Edward Duffin, Paula, Seyma, Jorin, and everyone else who helped make our stay such a good one. We were very impressed, and we will absolutely be back. Just wanted to give another update and add a couple pictures I took last time I was there. They hosted rooftop Pilates and we had a blast even though it was hot. We had a cocktail afterwards in the lobby area to reward ourselves. They also have a dog YAPPY hour and adoption events! I love this place. read more

Alright ya'll, I'm about you give you a REAL review to help you make a decision on where to stay while in Galveston. Hotel Lucine is cute, the service and employees are amazing, and food is pretty good! There are a few things to consider while staying here.. 1. The rooms close to the seawall have paper thin walls and it can be loud at night if you care about that 2. The pool is small (the pictures I saw were misleading on IG) no bar outside, but you do get poolside service drink and food 3. They do allow dogs here- in case that's not your thing 4. The bed was kind of stiff and uncomfortable, and TV's are really small in the room 5. My favorite part about the hotel is the rooftop and bands that play- such a vibe, good drinks and energy! I would def come back to see what bands play- when the sun sets and it's windy it's so nice! 6. The bars close at 11 on site- I was hoping it would at least stay open till midnight on a holiday night 7. The price of this hotel is expensive overall, it was higher than the St Luis for July 4, with that being said it wasn't worth the price overnight but def worth the visit for the rooftop band, drinks and food, employees and service! 8. The room at night is really hot- the ac is smaller and the window to the balcony will make the room hot - keep the curtains closed all day 9. The fish dip, "ceviche" dish were delicious! Get those to snack on! 10. We used the beach chairs on the beach from Lucine, no full bar, or food but hopefully soon. Also, it's a lot of greenery that needs to be cleaned up.. not fun to sit in grass on the beach.. Overall nice place, but I would not stay again over night at the price point I paid. I would def come back to eat/drink/listen to a band on the rooftop. I am giving the hotel 4 stars due to the employees and food. If I took Those options out- I would have given it a 3 stars review for the price point I paid. read more

I came with a friend for a girls' weekend from Friday to Sunday. I had stayed here before, but didn't get to spend much time enjoying the hotel itself so this trip was a completely different experience. This property is a remodeled motel that has been transformed into a really charming boutique hotel. They did an incredible job with the design and atmosphere. It feels trendy, relaxed, and unlike anywhere else in Galveston in my opinion. We arrived Friday night and had an amazing dinner at The Fancy. On Saturday, we spent the entire day at the pool enjoying drinks and appetizers, and on Sunday morning we grabbed breakfast tacos at the bar before heading back to Houston. From the moment we arrived, we received such a warm welcome from the staff. Everyone was friendly and helpful throughout our stay. Any questions we had or small issues that came up were answered and resolved right away which made the whole experience feel effortless! The service throughout our stay was great and the food and drinks were just as good. One thing we couldn't stop talking about was how comfortable the pillows were. We slept amazinggggg! We were in bed pretty early each night but we were woken up both nights by noise from neighboring rooms. It sounded like people coming in late and moving around. You can definitely hear doors opening and closing, cabinets shutting, and general hallway noise, etc. It wasn't a huge deal for me since I can usually fall back asleep easily but it's something worth mentioning for lighter sleepers. We stayed in a double queen balcony room which was spotless and had plenty of space for both of us. The balcony itself was a little awkward because it overlooks the pool area and since its a small hotel it felt like you were practically hanging out with everyone at the pool when you stepped outside. Next time I probably wouldn't pay extra for the balcony. The pool was clean, the atmosphere was great, and they played fun music all day. The only downside was drink service. Most of the time we had to go inside to order drinks ourselves. Someone did come take our order poolside once but it wasn't consistent. There was live music on the rooftop both Friday and Saturday night which was such a nice touch, especially around sunset. Parking was a little tricky because the hotel was busy when we arrived for the live music but we got lucky with a spot close by. The guy who checked us in let me know he would go out there and help me find a spot if I was not able to find one so although we didnt end up needing him, it was cool of him to offer. Overall, this hotel is so hip, cute, and unique. It honestly feels like you're not even in Texas. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a fun and stylish place to stay in Galveston. read more

I enjoyed my stay here! The bed was comfy. The pillows were good. The floor was clean. Everything was clean. Loved the proximity to the beach! The room was a bit of an echo chamber because it's concrete and not carpeted. Sound proofing or sound paneling would be nice. I could hear the snoring of the guy in the room next to mine. I heard his alarm around 4:30am and then he left. And then I was able to sleep after that. Over all though, I liked this hotel and I would return if I am in the area. read more

I am a sucker for a good boutique hotel/motel. Hotel Lucine ticks all the boxes for me. It was originally built in the 60's as a 2-story motel. Your typical beach motor lodge of the day. Each room is curated with comfort and style embracing a somewhat elevated beach oasis. The rooms are well-appointed and extremely clean and comfortable. A truly modern twist on the motor lodge of the past. The hotel includes a rooftop bar which I love (see my review on that), a restaurant (The Fancy) with delectable food at decent prices, and a common gathering space (The Den) that serves coffee and cocktails. The location is perfect, literally a 3-minute from Poretto Beach, 5- minute walk to Seawall Blvd, a mile from the historic pier, and so much more within walking distance or a short drive. The hotel is pet-friendly, offers free parking, and last but not least has an amazing pool for before or after a swim in the ocean. Service is spot on, everyone is made to feel special and at home. Well. What can I say . First impression when you walk is is frayed, dirty mat grass sisal carpeting . Looks horrible. The receptionist was dressed in a crumpled, unkempt chambray shirt. Not ironed. The bar downstairs is sad. Unorganized, sad barstools. 5 ppl behind counter but not interested in taking our order bc that we're speaking Spanish to the 2 young chicks eating at the bar. Rooftop bar closed on Monday . But allowed to splash your drink all over yourself if you want to take it up to rooftop. The rooftop has foul, vile rap music playing loudly . A patron asked for them to turn it down but fell on deaf ears. Will never go back for dinner, much less stay at this overpriced hole in the wall. Save your money . Or head to the San Luis Hotrl, Hotel Galvez, Vargas, Rudy and Pacos. Sherns, Number 13. So many great hotels and restaurants. This isn't one of them . read more

There were parts of the experience of staying here that were so absurdly bad that I'm tempted to give one star, but they are fixable so I will give three in the hopes that the owners go about resolving the issues. Positives first: 1. Great location, right across from the beach 2. Aesthetic lobby, gorgeous decor 3. Charming pool, well maintained 4. Helpful staff, very kind 5. Complimentary beach club chairs and umbrellas - really a dynamic differentiator! 6. AMAZING rooftop bar with ocean view and incredible live music - truly the savior of stars for this review.... Now onto the negatives: 1. The entire lobby smells very strongly of dog pee. To the point where I walked in and went "woof! is there a dog in here?". Sure enough, there is an adorable old man doggy (that perhaps belongs to the owner?) that resides in the lobby. Really a fun idea IF he is let out to urinate!! Unfortunately there was yellow dog pee stains under the stairs, and the scent was unmistakable. Immediately turned me off on first impression. 2. A number of the provided bath towels were threadbare and stained. Again, an easy to solve issue, so baffling that towels that are thin and fraying at the edges and streaked are still in the laundry rotation. 3. SMOKE ALARM BATTERY WENT OFF AT 4AM. Luckily front desk staff was extremely responsive and resolved the issue in ten minutes. I asked why the hotel didn't change batteries a month before expiration date like most hotels do to avoid the battery dying in the middle of a guests stay, and was informed it must not be something the new owners were aware of. 4. The A.C. units can not keep up with the Texas heat / coastal humidity. The room temp, per the unit, did not go below 80*F all weekend despite being set to 70. To be fair, it felt more like 76*F, but that's still fairly warm to sleep in my opinion! Asked staff about it, and was told "yeah, we always have AC issues, the new units can't keep up..." so something they're aware of. 5. Parking lot is not enforced. That means anyone can use the Lucine parking lot for beach access, and actual hotel guests are simply out of luck for parking. It may say "towing enforced" but excited beachgoers and front desk alike informed us they don't actually check it. It was a bit obnoxious circling forever to find parking when the hotel allegedly provides it. But not the end of the world! Again, the above items would warrant a one star review if the pool, rooftop bar, complimentary beach club chairs and umbrella, and kind staff weren't in consideration. I think these issues are FIXABLE!! And encourage owners to hop to it. But at present, the overall experience gives the vibe of a new owner with restaurant/bar experience who has taken on a vanity project with no idea how to actually run a hotel re: guest experience. read more

Been here a couple times just to grab some drinks with the girls and it's always a good time! Their fries and drinks are so yummy and the service is always rlly amazing. I haven't personally stayed at the Hotel myself but the decor is so cute and honestly very chic. I love their rooftop and sometimes they have live music on the weekends which is especially nice when the weather is great! I've heard they do drag brunch's too! read more

Decided to have a splurge of a weekend using our points but discovered it was better to show up last minute and see if they have openings. Of course that means moving rooms daily so to us that wasn't worth it with a three year old. Let's talk about what I like to talk about best-parking. 1) Parking: They have a lot that is a tight freaking squeeze. Large trucks were parked in there as we are in Texas and it made my nerves bad. Luckily there was parking along the building on 10th street that the front desk said we could park at even though it says two hour resident parking. 2) Food: all day happy hour on Monday and we got fried pickles but the batter was still on them so we sent them back and they came back too fried. The smoked fish dip didn't have any smoked fish in it or so it seem and basically tasted like cream cheese only. We did not have a chance to try The Fancy which I have heard is really good so just know that the bar food might make you a little sad. 3). Room: Spectacular. I loved all of the little touches and the retro vibe and thank god for the concrete floors. Most hotels in Galveston have that dank smell with a hint of mildew but not this place. Everything was clean and towels were plush and fresh and I loved the two bathrobes. Our beds and pillows were super comfortable. Our only hang up was the curtains which weren't enough to cover the entire window to block out the light completely. Also we were facing the pool and have a little one who needed to nap but we made it work. It was quite loud during the day as you can imagine with people in the pool. We loved the feel of this hotel and how small an intimate it was. Everyone was very friendly and kind and we were able to explore all of the spaces without going too far. The deck was beautiful was sunset and a great place for the kids to run around. People seemed upset our kids were up there but you know what? You're entitled to not have kids if you so choose but you're not entitled to live in a kid free world. That's my schpiel. To be fair there were only four kids total on property when we were there and one was just using a day pass. I also failed to mention that it is literally right across the street from Poretto Beach which was really nice because we could have a pool day or a beach day or both without having to walk too far or drive. read more

To top it all off we were leaving super early and although they usually put the complimentary coffee out at 6am they put it out early for us to have on our way out without us even asking. A small kindness but a much appreciated one! On top of all that they clean rooms daily, provide entertainment on the weekends, and in general were happy to open doors and welcome us in and on our way out every time we returned or left the hotel. 5 stars all the way. I'd love to give it a 5 star stay but the first day the pool was super cloudy (being a pool owner I do know it's hard to keep chemicals balanced with the salt atmosphere). Short version: Solid, slightly upscale property if you like a vibrant atmosphere and want to be right on the beach in Galveston. Long version: This is one of the more unusual hotels I've visited. It's as if someone took a run-of-the-mill dive motel and attempted to transform it into a boutique property, with mixed results. The indoor vibe is trendy and upscale, with a comfortable lobby (The Den) where you can get coffee and snacks, and a more upscale classic American restaurant. They do a nice job transferring this aesthetic to the mostly open-air rooftop bar and lounge. They often have music at night and other events like yoga in the morning. Entry to the rooms is outdoors, motel-style. Even though many of them are facing the ocean, there are no windows looking out in that direction. All the rooms are looking out the other way, toward the pool in the courtyard -- note that the privacy curtain offers NO actual privacy; you can see right through it. They allow the doors to be propped open to take in the ocean breeze, but I wouldn't recommend that since the surrounding area isn't the nicest, despite being across the street from Porretto Beach. I didn't feel comfortable using the pool because literally every room looks out/down onto it, so you feel like you're in a fishbowl. Fortunately, the beach is a three-minute walk across the street. Keep in mind that the beach in Galveston has a lot of sediment so it rarely looks crystal clear, but it's a great beach for lying out and for kids that want to play. The ocean water is also still very warm in October. The room has an upscale vibe, with light-colored faux-wood furniture, wall-mounted nightstands, a wardrobe in place of a closet, and a fully stocked mini-bar (costs extra). I liked the choice to just go concrete for the floors; gives a newer more industrial vibe, and also negates the issue of tracking in sand and dirt from the beach onto a rug, or slipping on tile. The bed was average, but comfortable for a night or two. I was less than impressed with the food. Both of the recommendations from my server at the rooftop bar -- Gulf Coast Campechana (a cold seafood salsa) with tortilla chips, and Crispy Chicken Bites -- were not good. The chicken was overcooked, and I actually had to order another drink just to get the taste of the Campechana out of my mouth. Service was excellent top to bottom, from the lobby staff at check-in/check-out to the servers and hotel staff. Parking is tight. Their lot can fit maybe a dozen cars, but there is street parking nearby, and generally you can get away with parking a little bit down the street even though it's technically marked residential. Overall, I enjoyed my stay, and if I wanted to splurge on a slightly upscale property near the beach, I wouldn't hesitate to stay again. read more

Songs for Lila was playing and he did a great job. Our service from Paola at The Fancy and I think Kristen at the coffee bar was fantastic. Everyone from the front desk to the hospitality crew were so friendly and fun to talk to. We had a king balcony room and it was perfect for us. Visited the rooftop bar area for a work conference party. The area was very small (I'm sure that normally isn't an issue considering the size of the hotel). The place apparently is newly renovated and the indoor/outdoor bar area was a nice touch. I feel like there could've been a few more seating options as there wasn't very much seating. My favorite place to sit is the den area; the furniture gives it a comfy feel and makes it feel like an elegant home. Favorite cocktail is the margarita, which is not too sweet and quite strong. The drinks are on the pricey side, especially when it's not happy hour, but I think the service and ambiance are well worth the price. Also tried to fries and they were amazing!! My husband and I stayed at The Lucine expecting a wonderful, relaxing weekend, but instead, I was falsely accused and charged $54.13 for stealing a steamer that was never in the room to begin with. When I couldn't find an iron/steamer (and we were already running late for our reservations), I ended up going to dinner in a wrinkled dress. Their own website says steamers/irons available upon request; however, I NEVER requested one. Instead, I was suddenly and unexpectedly slapped with a charge for "removing" the steamer after I was already home. I was never notified or contacted. They just silently charged my card like I wouldn't notice. That's not just poor communication, that's humiliating and accusatory. When I called to inquire about the charge, I was told the district manager would call me. I never received the phone call; however, I did receive a very PR-sounding apology that felt more AI than authentic (as an English teacher, I can spot an AI paper in an instant). It looked exactly like ChatGPT created...word for word from Lacye. They eventually refunded the charge, but that doesn't erase the fact that I was treated like a thief over something I never had. It left a permanent wound that no refund, or apology can fix. Travelers, please take inventory of your room the moment you arrive and protect yourself. I never thought I'd need to document basic amenities just to avoid false accusations, but here we are. For the price and the attitude, this hotel is not worth the stress. There are too many wonderful places in Galveston that respect their guests and know how to manage a property. This isn't one of them. read more

Hotel: (4/5) Hotel Lucine is a boutique hotel with a mix of high vs low: a blending of bougie and classy with a laid back beach-vibe energy. Keath (a Galveston local) and her husband Dave Jacoby are the owners and have clearly poured a lot of love and passion into this space. They have stayed true to the buildings origins with a historically relevant midcentury modern feel. I had the pleasure of staying here within Hotel Lucines first month. In a lot of ways, it still felt in-progress. There wasn't art up in the rooms and though we liked the room design, it felt a little too cold, sterile, and the TV situation needed a lot of work. My favorite part of the room was the robes: they are comfortable, fit around larger bodies, and are perfect for the hot/humid weather. The pool is eye catching, inviting, and it's got a delicious hue of blue. The pool area has an iconic feel to it: you can read the hotel name as it glimmers through the bottom of the pool, surrounded by the colorful arches of the courtyard and inviting lounge chairs. Durring our stay, there were (very small) construction projects and various people installing things to improve the space, but we still had an excellent time. Even with the "dust and scuffs" (quoted from a sweet hand written note in our room), it's still on the top of my list for a staycation destination. Rooftop bar: (3/5) The view is just fabulous and it should not be missed. We came to this bar 3 times durring our stay because we adored it so much. The drinks were fairly well made and their liquor selection was extremely well curated. With the right bar team, this lounge could elevate to unmatchable heights. In the summer, I can imagine this space feeling like an elevated house party where new friends and connections are made. The not so great: Service was slow, communication was sometimes impossible, and it felt a bit stingy. For example, the staff practically took a marker and made sure to refill the same amount of beer in a cup after a fly got into my friends beer (it wasn't even half empty). For a business only a month in, I would have expected the staff to be focused on wowing the customers. There were also huge communication barriers with the staff. Translators were needed for even the most simple questions or requests. We could not even order food or drink without getting a translator. If the space had been busy, the experience would suffer greatly and operation would be at risk. The Den: (3/5) For breakfast, we were not allowed to eat in The Den's space because they were taking photos. So, we had our breakfast on the rooftop. The Den area was a great place to work from (once it re-opened) and the owners encouraged us to feel comfortable working there. We had a productive workday and ended it with some well curated wine selections. The Den's Food: Breakfast (2/5) - Griddled blueberry muffin with liver - not a good combo for me. I'm adventurous and love weird combos or unconventional things, but this was just all wrong. - Egg sandwich - tasty, fluffy, and honestly deserved better bread. It could also be elevated with something like an everything bagel seasoning on top. - Masala Overnight oats - interesting, but would not order again - it was too sweet for me. - Breakfast Taco - was the best thing on the menu as an overall experience. The Fancy - A Dining Destination: (5/5) Chef Leila Ortiz is doing amazing things. No one in Houston or Galveston is doing what she is doing. Must try - it's worth a drive and worth a trip. read more

Five stars for the food and drinks. We ate at the bar in The Den and enjoyed several small plates. Watermelon salad, roasted shishito peppers, and spicy crispy chicken. All were excellent, the cool watermelon mint salad pairing perfectly with the hot crunchy chicken and the shishito peppers mildly hot and served on a delicious aioli. Margaritas were delicious, served in a rocks glass with Tajin salt rims. Bourbon Old Fashioned was also very good. Our bartender was friendly and helpful. Ambiance is calm and attractive. It's great to see an older property get a new lease on life with a tasteful update like the Hotel Lucine. I had a delicious lunch at Hotel Lucine today with my writing group, where my friend, Lori, introduced me to the Chef Daya, who was a student of hers "back in the day." I immediately recognized Daya from Supermarket Stakeout (Discovery Channel) where she appeared as a contestant last year. Daya is as delightful in personality as she is talented as a chef. Her fish tacos were perfect! Crunchy, with just the right amount of heat and acid. The fish was Red Fish. We ended the meal with Chocolate Coffee Cake with Orange Zest and Sugar Glaze. Scrumptious! This review is for the rooftop bar and pool passes. First off, the staff at Lucine is great, welcoming and friendly. Whoever hired and trained them did well. When we went to the rooftop bar, the weather was sketch, obviously not their fault, but we had a nice time anyway. The drinks were uniformly good. They didn't wow me, but there's potential. Pool passes for locals: yay! The vibe is great and the pool is cool, but don't expect to get your laps in as it's smallish. Service is spot on and cordial. While the price may seem high, $50/person, that money can be used towards food and drink. An extra plus for us was meeting very fun people. My takeaway -- just go. I booked two rooms for my mother and kids and they were mixed up. One was supposed to be wheelchair accessible with a king bed, but instead it was the room with double beds for my wife and I and kids. That being said I didn't say anything at the moment. My brother in law was staying in another room as well and his room had coffee and water. We did not have that in our room. I went to get a normal coffee in the lobby and bartender said they were out and only had espresso. I ordered espresso and paid for it. Lame... that is one thing you don't run out of in a small hotel. We ordered some breakfast tacos and sat by the pool.They were pretty good. They usually have some water available by the pool but not today. It is spring break and you would think they would this week. Since our room had a handicap shower and didn't lock for handicap reasons I didn't get to shower. We love the hotel and always recommend it to friends. This time just didn't live up to the standards. The front desk was helpful when I let her know my concerns before we left but still kinda fell below our standards this time. read more

Ssshhh, greatest hidden gem in Galveston! Amazingly clean and fresh rooms across from the beach! Bar drinks and food will not disappoint! Go with the Angus Burger and Fries! Employee staffing is amazing. Ask for Marisa, front desk for checking in-out. Request Rhea for any room service or clean up services that might be necessary. What a beautiful mid mod hotel. The entire place is a vibe and we are having a great time. Concierge was very helpful and knew where to direct us for weekend events on the island. Live music till 12:30 am and reasonably priced drinks. read more

I love the ambiance and vibes of this place! Their drinks are worth the price during happy hour but is a bit on the pricey end during non-happy hour times. There is a lot of decent seating both indoor and outdoor as well as on the first and second floor. Service is great and the bartender was very attentive when we were in the upstairs patio. I would definitely recommend this place and will be back for happy hour soon! read more
