Grand and expensive, it's certainly one of the highest end seafood restaurants in Barcelona. We ordered the monkfish and a cousin of the sea bass family as our main entrees. They were both delicious and the service was superb. The waiter practically never left our side and tended to our every want within seconds. This place appears to think that they are above having to please their customers. Our hotel made "reservations" for us for 11 pm. We show up and the hostess says they have our name and it will be 10 Minutes. 20 Minutes later we find out that it is first come first server after 11 and we were not standing in the proper line which by the way was right in front of the kitchen with waiters running back and forth with hot plates. Needless to say, this is not only annoying but dangerous as well. We finally get a table and we have to ask for napkins and utensils after they serve us olives and bread. Then the night began to turn. The food was fantastic. Had the seafood soup and paella. They were delicious. Don't go here unless you have solid reservations. They make the perfect paella here. Rice has great texture, favors are great, and loaded with good variety of seafood. Everything else on the menu is great too. We made reservations here after getting a recommendation from a friend and reading reviews about this place. It was a very beautiful restaurant and we arrived promptly and were seated in an ugly, very bright and empty back room after having passed many tables in the much nicer and more elegant part of the restaurant. We were dressed very nicely and I was quite disappointed to be taken to the room we were brought to. I politely asked to be seated at any of the other tables we passed and was told by the hostess that those tables were being held for other reservations. I reminded her that we also had a reservation and that since the other people had not arrived yet I did not understand why she could not seat us at one of the other tables. After speaking with someone, she came back and brought us to the nicer area. We asked the person who took our order for any suggestions and he seemed to be in a hurry and very impatient. He gave us 2 choices, neither of which we were fond of, and then appeared annoyed that we wanted to see the menu a bit longer to make other choices. After he took our order we never saw him again the entire time and we had a woman who brought our food and a busboy, neither very friendly. Let me start by saying that the prices here are ridiculously high. We ordered the fried calamari appetizer and a 1/2 dozen oysters. There must have been only about 10 pieces of very salty calamari for about 15 euros ($19)! The 6 oysters were 26 euros ($33.60)!!! Talk about overpriced and over-rated but neither of the appetizers were any good! I thought the oysters would be amazing considering the reputation of this place and the price, but we get better oysters in my town on Long Island for $2 each! For our main course we shared the grilled seafood platter for 2 and that happened to be very good but also very overpriced (125 euro - $162). No sides, no nothing. They give you a free dessert (nothing to write home about either) and we each had a single glass of wine. The total for this mediocre meal and over-rated restaurant came to $242! We would have been happier donating this money to a charity and spending $40 for tapas at El Quim in La Boqueria market. Visited May 2013 read more

Easily one of the best seafood restaurants I have ever been to, and I grew up in Boston where I enjoyed THE best seafood my entire youth (until most of the best catches were fished out sometime in the '70s). Took some clients here for a meeting. Very beautiful inside. Very fresh and beautifully prepared seafood dishes. If u want an upscale big time seafood old school establishment sit down experience then look no further. Seafood is delicious but we also ordered a leg of goat which was fantastic. Service is a bit pushy and they try to shove things from the menu down your throat so b firm with your order. The seafood platters that feed 1-2 easily feed 3-4 especially if you r ordering other items but u must have one platter, the grilled platter was way better than the boiled. After reading the good reviews here on Yelp we visited the place. We ordered off the card: Soup and crabcake for starters, and shrimp and fish for main courses. Good: The fish and shrimp were okay Bad: The soup tasted like it had too much flour in it - and the accompanying fried bread was dry and probably several hours old at the least. The potatoes for the fish were kinda boring. Add to this an unattentive waiter that was about to serve us lobster we hadnt ordered - and you get the picture. April 2016 - This restaurant was recommended by our doorman at Casa Fuster Hotel. He made our reservations for us at 9pm. Just a short walk from our hotel. I am not sure what other reviews complain about??? Old = established and cultural. Too many service personnel = perfect service. There were three of us - ordered Spiney Crab Salad, Grilled Seafood Platter, two bottles of wine and two beers. It was all we could do to finish our meal not to mention the fresh olives and bread basket (which we were NOT charged for) PLUS the complimentary desert tray! All for 227 €. We are from west coast of Florida and our seafood does not hold a candle to the cuisine at this fabulous dining establishment. All I can say is GO, GO, GO! It may look pricey for the first time, but it is worth the price, for the amount of ingredients put into a dish the appropriate size that they provide. The taste, fabulous. The one thing that looked good was the seafood platter but be prepared to lay up 120 euros for the pleasure. Further the service was hurried and the decor reminded me of a Jolly Roger. I went to this restaurant twice-- the first experience was fantastic. Food was excellent as was the service. Our waiter was spectacular in every way, even helping secure a taxi upon our departure. Unfortunately my second experience was radically different. The food was good, however our waiter was absolutely awful to me. We had a group of 12 people dining, and he refused to wait on me. He would take the orders for everyone else at the table and purposely skip me every single time - refused to take my order for drinks, appetizers, dessert or even coffee. He would even make eye contact with me and I as I would start to speak he would shake his head and walk away or dismiss me for the next person. All of these were the best I've ever tasted. The Sauvignon Blanc was a perfect pairing to my Sole fish which was garnished with slivers of black truffles and a butter-champagne sauce. It literally melted in my mouth. Also, the chocolate cake with a side of wild strawberries is the perfect ending to a fantastic meal - so save room! A rather fancy and expensive restaurant with a nice decor. Food was very good. Both my wife and I had seafood paella. It had a sufficient and favorable quantity and mix of seafood: fish, shrimp, mussels, squid, and clam. Quantity was more than enough as a single dish for each of us. Service was just OK. Wish staff would smile sometimes. Was surprised they automatically served bread and olives and then charged us for them. While in Barcelona, Spain last month (March 2015) my wife and I had the opportunity to eat at Botafumeiro. WOW What a wonderful experience. We decided to go out for a "fancy" dinner as the last night in town. Unfortunately I neglected to make a reservation and it was packed. As we entered the hostess tried to put us at a small table which I declined. Quickly we were escorted to a regular size table closer to the middle of the restaurant. It was typical of a Catalan restaurant where people are talking, drinking and festive. Since it was our last dinner in Barcelona we decided to have seafood. Oh my goodness we may have went overboard. LOL We ordered the GRILLED SEAFOOD SELECTION (Lobster, scampi, prawn, baby shrimp, clam, cockle, cuttlefish, squid, scallop and shrimp) This thing was HUGE and could have feed 4 people. It's a straight up tourist trap. We were recommended this place by a friend for good seafood. The food here is over priced and mediocre. I asked for the dessert tray and instead they took away my half full pitcher of sangria that was 35€ and two full bottles of water and brought the bill. The hostess came to take our credit card. She asked how our dinner was and we said not good. As I am writing this review, she sees the two stars and couldn't even care less about asking why we had a bad experience. Go somewhere else.
