Carol of Serenity Skin Care Alhambra has opened up a brand new branch! Only a month new and everything is brand new. This new place is very modern and western looking. This location is just down the street from her other location in the Pinkberry plaza, super close Formosa Cleaners (jeans alteration!). Now that its super hard to fit an appointment in at Serenity on the weekend, its nice that there's a second location to book appointments. I came in on Sunday with my boyfriend and we both had a facial, loved the new place. It's located in a quiet plaza with plenty of parking in front. The outside is very understated, but the inside its beautiful a complete 180 from her other location. They also added some classical music to the overhead speakers, that made my facial very relaxing. The service here and quality is still just as great. Love that the prices are still very affordable and still the best prices I've found for a facial. My friends and I have been going to Carol's for four years now, because where else can you get a deep cleaning hour long facial for $55? They've also improved her eyelash extensions with thinner and less cumbersome eyelashes, same prices as before! They also have a first timer special for $45, of course different prices for lash quality. Carol has now added a few more treatments. This is my 5th visit for eyelashes here and I finally feel obligated to warn other potential customers. The first time I came, my lashes turned out looking OK although my eyes stung pretty badly. I was convinced to buy a 6-session package. From the second session onward, my experience has been terrible. Here's my honest cumulative review : Cons: -unsanitary (Susan didn't wash her hands after the last customer and prior to touching my face /eyes, bed sheets are not changed between customers) -unprofessional (no one at the front desk for 10 mins after I arrived, they took me to a random room and almost started a facial...stopping only because I clarified I was here for eyelashes, after my first session the person just walks out of the room without a word so I opened my eyes and got super glue in my eyes...it was my first time getting lashes!) -unreliable results (first session lashes looked pretty good, second session onward lashes were sparse and ended before the corner of my eye...looking strange and obviously false) -pushy, aggressive sales tactic (others have mentioned Carol says things like, "Your skin is TERRIBLE and you have SO MANY freckles you need to get this and that...") I've been Carol's customer for over 6 years. Yes, I was first introduced to her little place in Alhambra, then she moved to another place in the same area, and now she has a 2nd location in Rosemead. I came here every three weeks all the way from Temecula (it's an hour and 10 mins drive by the way). There are tons of facial places in Temecula but what makes me keep coming back to Carol's is the quality of the work and consistency. After being her customer for several years, she and her staffs have known about my skin type and my preference very well, so basically I can just walk in, lay down and walk out without saying a word. I would be very careful to go somewhere else because I have very sensitive skin. I remember when I was there the first time, one of her staffs who did my facial was upset because my face turned very red (looked like it was burned) after she cleaned my acne. After she did massage at my neck and shoulder, oh boy, anywhere she touched had turned red too. At that time, I didn't even know my skin would have such a reaction to facial, but Carol looked my skin and told her staff what to do. After my facial, my face was not red at all. Although I can still see redness on my shoulder, after 15 mins resting at the front and drank some water, the redness was gone. Carol remembered my skin type, and usually I would have the same person to do my facial. But if there was time a new staff doing my facial, Carol would explain to them how sensitive my skin is so that they would be careful. I am glad to find such a nice place that I can go to each month and have enjoyable experiences after my busy work. I also have bunch of friends coming here too. I saw some comments about pushing customer on products and services. Personally, I wouldn't feel pressure and I think it's normal if you go to any type of business. Especially if you are new customer, of course they would want to let you know what services they offer and give you recommendation. It is just like you are going to buy cosmetics at the mall, and the sales have to show you what they offer, but it's up to you if you want to buy it or pass. Just say what you like or not. I've been coming here for more than a year and finally writing a review. Carol is nice and looks out for you and your skin needs just like your mother would. She even tells you what and what not to eat so your face can be clear. I've had facials, dark mole/freckles removed and eyelashes done here. Felicia is my go to girl for eyelashes she and Michelle knows how to get that done! They also both do great facials as well. Just recently Jennifer has been doing my facials and can I just say she is the best! She wears gloves so she won't spread the germs when she's extracting and she does it gently yet hard to take all gunk out of your face. She speaks English very well and I feel like she's my therapist as well. LOL. There are two locations one in Alhambra and this one in Rosemead. Rosemead is the most updated and the modern spa of the two. I just love the fact that every time I get my facial done here I feel so relaxed and stressed free afterwards. And can I just say the shoulders and the head massages are just out of this world~ Lastly, the only thing that bothers me is when they are busy and packed like during the weekends especially Saturday is that they would sometimes rush the massages and/or forgets it. Also I'm not sure if I'm mistaken or not, but after every extraction I noticed they use this small handheld machine to close the pores; however, it seems like I never seen nor heard them clean it. I mean after extractions your face gets bloody I don't want to use the same machine someone else used on my face without being disinfected first. When I contacted them about skin care service for my face, Carol was very patient with me on the phone and explain all the detail info with me. EYELASH EXTENSIONS! They do a great job and at such a good price. I've had my eyelashes done at another place before and they were just too unnatural looking, so after that one time, I didn't go back. But I really like the effect that Botanic Beauty Spa creates with the eyelashes. My eyes look gorgeous afterwards and people are always asking me what type of mascara I'm using. They have plenty of appointment times available and 2 locations, so even if you have to drive from other parts of LA, I think it's worth it. I've been fighting with acne for many years ever since I was a teenager and now as an adult. I have been trying many places doing facial around San gabriel Valley. Among them, Botany Beauty Spa is the best!! No kidding. They have great customer services that Carol is very polite of explaining the service to me and help me reschedule if I cannot make to the appointment. My friend's brother, Andrew, has been coming to Botanic Beauty Spa for the past 2-3 months. He came here intending to get a series of acne treatments. He's always had acne prone skin for the past few years that I've known him, and everything they have tried never really worked. He even went to a professional dermatologist that prescribed medication to calm down the flare ups that worked, but stopped working after a while. He decided to try Botanic Beauty Spa in Rosemead to see if they could help them out. In the beginning, it was pretty bad. Super oily, bumps, and blackheads galore. His pimples would even sometimes be painful. But after a few weeks of treatments every week, I could see that his skin was getting better and better. Carol and Annie both worked on his skin regimens and according to him, they were very courteous and skilled at what they did. There was a big improvement from the Andrew I knew 2-3 months ago to the Andrew I know now even brighter and clearer skin than before. I've been with Carol and her team for almost 7 years. Yes, 7 years. They've become almost like a 2nd family to me in the sense that they know me so well and have seen how my skin has changed over the years. I've gone through financial hardship as well and they were always so kind and gracious in letting me come up with a payment plan for facial packages. As for my skin, it doesn't flare up with acne to the extend that it use to. When I go in nowadays it's more for maintenance and relaxation. Carol is rude and pushy. She uses her hands to extract, which my esthetician friends informed me is completely against standards and super gross because of all the bacteria under the nails. I got eyelash extensions done here and was not a fan. It irritated my eyes and so I went in to get them taken off only a couple days after having them put on. She said it would cost $15 to have them taken off. I was taken back because I wasnt sure why I should pay additional money to undo a service I wasn't happy with. Then she said she'd waive that if I get a facial. I needed a facial anyways so I just went with it. It's nothing amazing and kind of dirty. She was constantly in and out of the room and the only type of sanitation she did before touching my face was rinse her hands in a bowl of water. To be fair, Idk if it's only water but she should really comply with sanitation rules and invest in some gloves. I'm really turned off by how pushy she is. She's one of those blunt Asian women with no common sense about decency and tries to push products any chance she gets. I paid $165 for 3 facials and just had my second one. On my second trip, she demanded I pay her another $165 for the next 3 treatments because it is a bundle deal that's supposed to be purchased with 6 for the rate of $55 per facial vs. the $75 without. That should have been expressed in the beginning. So we stood there at the front desk as she asked me if I could give her any amount of money right then and there. At that point I realized I'm done. Bottom line, I will not be returning. It's never a pleasant experience with someone trying to constantly sell. Someone needs to teach her that no means no. read more

Paid 100 to get lashes that only lasted a week 1/2 I returned to get them fixed and was charged 150 and told I needed to become a member for 600!! What a rip off my biggest pet peeve is when a company doesn't fix their mistake and takes more money from you. read more

I was able to get an appointment for a microdermabrasion with Carol within an hour of me calling which should have been a sign since it was a Saturday. Upon arrival, we got started right away and Carol examined my skin closely and pointed out all the flaws that my skin has and that I need a more expensive procedure (Carbon Laser) than the one that I am paying for. I actually wasn't offended by her bluntness because I know some Asian folks can be that way and its just their way of trying to sell more product. Besides, I know what my skin looks like and its nowhere near as bad as she made it sound. Anyhow, I refused to upgrade so we stuck with the original procedure which consisted of microdermabrasion which lasted like a total of 1 minute and felt like a crazy person was doing it because she jumped around all over the place and pulled my skin from left to right. I had microdermabrasion a lot of times and this was not the correct way to do it. After that, she proceeded to do extractions with her hands but only got to one pimple because she said "the others were not ready". Next was a mask which is suppose to harden and be peeled off. Well, she neglected to secure the sides of the mask which resulted in it getting into my hair and running down my chin. She could have fixed it but then again she was in and out of the room like 20 times in the course of the 50 minute facial and MIA half of the time so she never noticed. When I brought it up to her and the fact that my lower part of the face no longer had the mask, she said that its okay and didn't do anything to resolve the problem. Throughout the entire procedure, there were two chicks having a screaming conversation in the lobby which made my time there not relaxing at all. Besides, Carol left the door open for the first 15 minutes of the facial and other people came in and out of the room more than once. I told her after the facial that I was unsatisfied but her only resolution was to come back in 3 weeks to do the same procedure for the same price and she will do more microdermabrasion. The only reason why I am giving them two stars is because in a way they coerce you to give them an amazing review. I understand that businesses need clientele to keep their businesses thriving. However, the last visit, which took place sometime in September, they were trying to set me up with another regimen that was goinf to cost a hefty price from what I had agreed upon. cheapest place i know of in la to get your eyelashes done! there are 2 locations, the valley and garfield one is closer to me (located on top of yogurtland). $45 if you buy a pack of 6 eyelashes. refills are $10 (must go within 3-4 weeks) but you only get one refill. you can split the pack of 6 with a friend if you want. it takes 1 hour to complete the eyelashes and you can pay more if you want more high quality eyelashes. read more

After being recommended to this place for a full body massage by my best friend Cindy. I really regret coming here, This place does not provide a full body massage at all, they only work on your back for 15 min, then flip over and the rest is neck massage with hot stones under your neck and shoulders. There is no massage on your legs or feet at all. Not only I waisted $65 dollars but the lady who did my massage shorted me with 15 minutes and when I asked Carol she said it was because they used the hot stones on me. really? Also the girl who massaged me she had long nails and she scratch me pretty bad on my neck. She definitely needs a manicure. This place is very unprofessional and they have no clue what a full body massage is, I really had high expectations about Carol and her massage service but I must say is by far the worst massage place I've ever been too. I went to this spa for the first time for eyelash extensions. I already had them but needed to have them filled in. First, let me say the place is quiet, lovely and relaxing. So A+ for atmosphere. They had three types of eyelashes to choose from. I had never had a choice before, so I wasn't sure what I was currently wearing. I went with the suggestion of the very kind woman who would be applying the eyelashes. Let me add that I also appreciated that she took the time to ask me how I wanted the eyelashes to look (more natural, not too long, etc.). The eyelashes look very nice. The only comment I will make about the actual experience is that the glue they used seemed much harsher than other places I have been. Usually there is a slight burning following the procedure, but I noticed it more throughout. It wasn't so terrible that it would keep me from going back, just different. The only reason I'm assigning three stars is because the price was almost three times what I generally pay for this service at other locations. For every service at this spa, there is individual prices and membership prices. A membership is essentially buying a package. However, even when I did the math on the package (which allowed for one $20 fill after each session), it was still double what I am used to paying. I believe the package was going to be around $450. This was based on selecting the middle quality eyelashes with one more expensive and one less expensive. The woman explained that if I selected the single visit that I would already be paying nearly a quarter of the price of the package. While I understood this, I wasn't ready to purchase a package until I had the chance to see how the eyelashes turned out after a couple of days. Several days later, they still look great. So, I would definitely recommend this place but dislike package pricing enough that it might keep me from going again. read more

I've been coming here for two years now. The very first time, Carol did my facial. She was really good and very detailed. I did the basic facial which included wash, extraction, mask and even trimmed and tweezed my eye brows. I believe it was $45 with a groupon deal. It was Soo good I purchased the 10 package facial. During my 10 series, I think carol only washed my face and it seems like some other lady would come in do my facial. Since they covered my eyes, I wasn't able to tell. I'm new to getting facials so I thought this was a normal process and didn't think much of it. After 10 sessions, I signed up for another 6 because it was "the special deal" that was going on. The lady that signed me up didn't speak English very well and I was under the assumption if I purchased 6, today's session would be free. When I came for my "1 of 6" session, Carol told me that the first one wasn't free and it was suppose to be a free microembrassion. So technically it was no special deal. I just did my 5 of 6 sessions and the quality of work has been getting worse. They are not cleaning and extracting as well and at times the lady leaves the room for literally 30 mins. What use to be 1 hour and 15 mins is now a 1 hr and 45 min session with 30mins of them leaving the room with my face in some sort of mask. I'm not happy with this place and do not plan on going back. I was recommended to this place by my aunt and she told me to ask for Michelle. I was doing eyelash extension for the first time so I didn't know what to expect. Michelle is the sweetest she makes you feel calm and comfortable so relaxed you might even fall asleep because I almost did ! It took about an hour but the hour was worth it because I loved how they turned out. I told her I wanted them really full and long and she put them exactly how I wanted. It's so much faster to not put makeup on cause you wake up with beautiful lashes! A relative of mine did hers after mine and she was happy with the results as well. I had the honor of meeting the owner carol who is really nice ! She sure knows how to run a great beauty spa ! They have a membership option which is very worth it to become a member. I have been struggling with acne for now going on 10 years. I have tried everything from creams to cleansers and masks. None of these high brand names would clear my acne however only maintain in. I have been here for 5 times over the last 2 months, my skin is changed for the better. I have done the regular facial, carbon laser treatments, and mesotherapy facial reshaping treatments. Now my face is getting noticeably smaller, and my pores are also smaller. Carol also does dark spots removals. I have some moles, and I am getting them removed. Will see how this turn out in 2 weeks.
