Ok, those cans had been in my car for nearly a week and people break into cars for less reasons so I really needed to get them done. I was in the area and thinking that this spot was probably a horrible idea especially so close to their closing time. I was completely wrong! I live in Beaverton and the redemption center by me is a mess with a very long line of people cashing in their max. This was shockingly efficient - even with the people in line who clearly know what's what and are ready to rock. Everyone was averaging 2 bags. There is a security person right at the door calling out the free lane for you to go to. The floor was clean and I was just impressed as to the efficiency and how fast it was. read more

Went to recycle some cans with my son. The bags we brought in were clean when we brought them, but became very dirty in the facility bc obviously there is nasty liquid everywhere. Our leftover items the machine wouldn't take and our bags were covered in filth by the time we were done and there is no trash bin you can put that trash in. I did not want to put it in my car, so what am I supposed to do with it? The answer is plan ahead and bring an additional clean bag so you can get the stuff back home. But the reality is that 95% of ppl at the bottle drop are homeless. So why is the city not providing a trash bin nearby?? It's ridiculous. In my case it wasn't much trash and we were parked outside a nearby business so we put the trash in a trash can outside. There was no sign saying what sort of trash was allowed or not allowed. The security guard for the business (Lowe's) was outside and didn't say a thing when I put the trash in the bin. He then took the trash back out and chased us down with it! It was uncalled for! What a power trip! Why not have a sign on the trash can, or say "I'm sorry no recycling trash in that bin". When I asked why he didn't just say something or have a sign he immediately became volatile saying "have fun sleeping outside"! H clearly is blinded by hatred for the homeless community that makes up the majority of folks in that area bc neither myself or my son look homeless anyway but it still doesn't excuse his behavior. In the end though.. where are homeless ppl supposed to put their garbage?? Carry it around for eternity?? Can the bottle drop area get a trash can for crying out loud?? Portland residents are taxed enough to support a dumpster. I don't think it's an unreasonable request seeing how the mission of the bottle drop is supposedly to keep Oregon clean and pristine. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. This was my first time using the green bag method and it was very convenient.

It's pretty busy. Yet super convenient. You go to the machine load the can, plastic bottle or glass one at a time. Then it prints a paper with your total at the end. Really easy next you go to another machine and scan your ticket and then money pops out. Lol A few tips: Id for sure where some tennis shoes to the place, also you could bring gloves for sanitary reasons! The more you save, the more you get when you turn them in just a thought! If the place was alittle cleaner I would of for sure given it 3 stars! read more

We got there and it took me 15 min to get all my bags down and when we got in line they came up to us telling us that's just because we had Washington plates we couldn't redeem them it's crazy to me how just because we have Washington plate we couldn't recycle them I've been going there since a little kid with my parents and out of no where now they care about the Washington plates to be honest it's stupid I can't believe they did that and then after we where talking to someone that was in the lights and they where telling us other places to go and out of no where one of the staff came out and started yelling at the poor man saying "if you wanna buy Washington bottles go off camera" poor guy was just trying to help us out and he got yelled at. Now we have to go somewhere else to recycle our bottles when this place is just a 10 minute drive from our house. It smells horrible in there, half of there machines never work, environment is horrible, people are always smoking outside so you cant take any children the staff are very rude. Five stars in concept, one star execution. I get that the bottle deposit program is for the environment (and a great way to make up revenue for a state that doesn't yet have sales tax), but actually getting the redemption is a real pain. Remember when grocery stores everywhere had the machines to return cans? It was nice to just bring a bag and return them, and apply it to your grocery bill. Now there's this convoluted process in which you have to go to these state sponsored locations, wait for half an hour in a disgusting storefront while half the machines are in a constant state of repair. Regressive politics are at hand here, mainly passed by higher ups that can afford to just throw away the ten cents per container. Probably passed by the same people keeping gas stations full service and liquor in state stores rather than grocery stores. First off, why can I only sign up for an account in the physical location? I put off making an account because the shockingly depressing locations put me off and they're terribly inconvenient to reach. It's also the only place where you can buy the green bags to put the cans in, so I make sure to buy dozens so I only have to go once every six months. Second, again, the inconvenient locations. Most of the locations are far from pretty much anything, especially this Delta Park location. Considering that the people that need it the most may not have access to a vehicle, or just that I don't want to waste an entire afternoon hauling cans and waiting in long lines. Luckily there is a Safeway by my house that has an express location where I can drop off my green bags, but it's only a slight improvement. My point being? Bring back the redemption machines at grocery stores and cut the BS. read more

Solid, clean and way nicer than standing in the rain returning cans. As a native Oregonian, I am pleased that our state has a bottle bill. What I love about this location is that I can return as many cans as I want. They also have a drop off system where you can leave 2 bags a day and it will be added to your account. Would be nice if I actually lived closer! If you don't want to be bothered by returning your cans, there is a large assortment of colorful personality wise folks who would love your donations. I am a cheap bastard, and need the coin to buy more soda! read more

Finally I get to give something one star. Since the price of deposits has gone up to $.10 I have been keeping bottles and cans but every time I have been to redeem my deposit, the lines of been long the place smells. I researched the option of setting up an account and having the green bags for the service of dropping off the cans and bottles and having them count it out, then the refund put onto your account and you can withdraw at your own convenience. The first time I went to set up an account, there were no bags available and I could not do it, the second time some machines had broken down and the attendant was too busy and not able to do it, the third time I was determined and I lined up and waited 45 minutes to set up an account and get my 12 bags. I have since then dropped off two bags as that is all you are able to do at one time, I have a couple more left to do. Hopefully it all becomes much easier in the future. They obviously try to have everything organized and clean but it is an uphill battle, the lines of people out the front and the smell is almost unbearable. read more

Well...this place was gross and not an improvement over my local location in Oregon City. The people were not very polite as I asked about dropping off green bags and the rules. Um...I'm sorry you're being paid to help customers somehow justifies you being rude to them while you help them. Where is the customer service these days, people?!? To top it off, bad smell, very dirty machines, and it feels just like it did all those years ago when I used to haul cans to my local Freddies and put up with all the same stuff that I had to put up with at this supposed "modern" bottle drop center. Went to Milwaukie location first, since it's my regular place and only a 10 minute drive from home. There was about 30 people waiting in line due to covid, and most of them were some pretty sketchy characters. As a young 5'2 female, there's some sh*t you just don't wanna deal with. Decided to make the twenty minute drive to Delta Park location to see if it was less busy. Honestly, the BEST bottle return experience I've ever had, and I never thought I'd say that lol. Black dude with braids and his security guard friend were awesome! They were friendly, helpful, and kept the line moving so there was only about 10 people max waiting to go in. But in all honestly, I feel like the key to my great experience, was the fact that I came in with respect and understanding towards the employees, from the very beginning. They saw that, and reciprocated ten-fold. For any of you KARENS out there having a bad time, maybe show a little compassion towards those around you, and that positive energy will come right back in return. I brought my green bag to drop it off and realized I didn't have my card to open the door. I asked one of the employees and he said "sorry I can't. It's not my fault you need to be more responsible." And then we got into a three way argument as the security guy told me to read the back of my card. Excuse me? This was the worst customer service I've ever seen. I called and talked to Angela at the corporate office and complained about these two rude employees. I could even tell her everything that was said because I was so upset. Now I forget the guys name that was initially rude to me but I remember him telling the security guy sarcastically not to argue with me because I'm one of those people that's always right. !!! I'm a customer and with out your customers you wouldn't have a job mister. Maybe it was Leroy... Anyway, I hope he gets fired. Most people that I've encountered at bottle drops have been really nice and accommodating so thank you to all you great employees. I wish I give this location ZERO STARS. This was my experience this afternoon: I came in as I always do to return cans. The machine was NOT counting some of my cans so I politely asked for help. Instead of fixing the situation or explaining to me (the customer) why some of my cans weren't being accepted the Hispanic lady that first came out to help me said "you cannot return Pepsi cans here. They don't have the OR engraved onto the top of the can." This I know was bullshit. Then a black man who worked their, whose name I didn't get because he didn't introduce himself or have a name tag, came out of the back and said "You and your girl need to get the fuck out of here. Y'all can't come back". Up until this point I had not been informed why some of my cans weren't being accepted. I think it's funny that after all of this drama 3 of your employees could not iterate WHY SOME OF MY CANS WEREN'T BEING ACCEPTED. And to top it all off the two "security guards" followed me to my car with my girlfriend and proceeded to harass us. Saying that we were committing fraud and that "returning bottled from a different state is the first step in how identity theft starts" POOR POOR SERVICE. Aggressive and malodorous transient clientele that make it very uncomfortable to visit for ordinary people. I found an UNCAPPED, USED, METH SYRINGE right in its parking lot once where it could easily be kicked and cause a life long infection if it sticks your toe. I found a syringe at their East Portland location too. It is operated by Oregon Beverage Recycling Cooperative which operates every single redemption centers in Oregon due to state sanctioned monopoly. I have used various locations in the metro area since they went to the BottleDrop ONLY as opposed to supplemental and it has become what I anticipated, these centers are about discouraging recycling end all. The employees are under-paided and have no reason not to be surly. Every deposit is stuck into a general fund, that general fund is in a INTEREST accruing account. The more the State makes the returns inconvenient the larger that general fund grows and the more interest they reap muchless I'm sure it has certain annual benchmarks as to how much of said fund is considered "recoverable" which gives them a slush fund off the top no surprise the deposit has doubled as convenience has been slashed to a quarter if that much. In the end it is sales tax. read more

I went to Hayden Meadows bottledrop this evening around 5 p.m. (with a friend who witnessed this as well) and there was a deaf lady who was signing. Her and I had a wonderful little conversation then after she returned all of her bottles and cans went up to customer service and that was it, she asked the gentleman behind the counter for a piece of paper and a pen. They ignored her! So I asked if she could get a piece of paper and pen? Then she asked through me, if they were hiring? They were so rude I am glad that she couldn't hear, because I was appalled at their behavior. I am disabled as well and that was unbelievable the lady that works there said: "Do I look like I am a school teacher and I have school supplies!" Then the gentleman quickly without any hesitation just said "NO!" that was it no explanation, no we're not hiring right now. Absolutly no compassion that is NOT a company that I want to do business with and I hope that it can be fixed! No matter if you're disabled or not people should show compassion or at least take the time to let people with disabilities have the same chance.
