I mean bottle drop. It smells. It's always got tons of people BUT there is a door at the back of this building. And it's fast and easy to drop. I find that with this location my balance is usually updated within 24 hours. Which is fast. It's easy to print your tags and hold your breath and run out lol. But I hate doing this. Even though I rinse my cans and bottles they still gross me out and I hate lugging them. BUT save the planet. Make a few dollars back on your deposit fees. It's a win win. read more

Very rude and confrontational employee. Some of our bottles were considered less than appropriate to return. We were confronted as to which we apologized and said we understood and STOPPED loading anything into the machine. he proceeded to SHOUT for everyone to hear about how DISGUSTING the bottles were. As I was turning in the receipt, he saw me and deliberately started talking about us to another employee loud enough for me to hear. I confronted him and told him he was out of line and represents the company he works for. He went on to rudely tell me that he is glad we learned our lesson. His behavior was disgusting and I highly doubt we are the first ones to deal with him. People like that should NOT be in customer service. read more

I had a blatantly disrespectful experience at this BottleDrop this evening because of an employee who was rude, power-tripping, and completely unprofessional. A Black woman had kindly given me about five of her extra bottles since she was already over the $35 limit. The employee immediately shut it down, saying he "couldn't count them" because they were "hers," despite the fact that she had given them to me. Instead of explaining anything calmly or professionally, he repeatedly disappeared into the back to whisper with another employee, came out to stare at us, then went back again--apparently too uncomfortable to address us directly. This behavior felt targeted and discriminatory, and it made both of us extremely uncomfortable. After all of that, he suddenly came back and said he could take the bottles after all. At that point, it was clear this was never about policy--it was about attitude. The way he treated us, especially the Black customer involved, came off as racially biased and completely unacceptable. Customer service should be respectful and consistent for everyone. This employee was hostile, dismissive, and unnecessary. I will not be returning to this location read more

The entire bottle drop system is oppressive to the poor in how it is structured. That aside, they are filthy and gross, my account has never been in a good working order and three codes later I gave up, having to spend so much time getting codes that dont work so I can get the refund that I paid for is insane. Plus green bags are not readily available anywhere I shop. I am stuck playing planks roo in a filthy building. The machines rarely accept everything and even thought I only brought 20$ worth of cans i have to bring 3$ worth back home because of faulty machines and handcount limits. I am not a fan of being told to get my other 3$ of deposit back i need to drive to the next city or come back the following day. When I have not reached my 35$ a day max. This is just excessively time consuming. Driving around from location to location where a green bag drop isn't overflowing and useless is just as unappealing. read more

Customer service lady kicked us out after 25 minutes, saying we had been there since 12:30, it was 12:55, and had multiple tickets. I had one ticket with $7 on it and my girlfriend had one with 3 as her machine had kicked her off early. Was my first time dropping off paid recycling in Oregon, the worst customer experience I have ever had. I have called and spoken to customer service to take further action and until I hear back that something has changed my review with remain. I'd give it zero stars if I could, a waste of time and incredibly frustrating as well. This is just the worst place. Customer service is horrible and lately, (really most of the time) you can't even get your bags through return outside door because it is completely jammed. I asked them to clear it but NO one came. So we had to shove the bags in. Thank goodness my strong son was with me. There were many cars arriving back there and there was no place to put the bottles. Come on Bottle Drop, you need to figure out a better way for people to drop bags off. That little door and then tiny area for bags just invites a big mess and clogged pathway for the bags. This place is such a miserable experience - the drive to go somewhere else is worth it. Poorly maintained machines, the ooze that drips from the opening of the machines that forms a collective sludge puddle at everyone's feet, the employees who hate the situation they signed up for, and the management who makes and allows these choices. With two minutes to go, I turned and asked if I should leave or if I'm okay to wrap up. She looked away without responding. (Maybe she didn't hear me?) I asked again if I should get out of there or wrap up. She said "oh you can go ahead and wrap up." So I continued loading cans into the machine like a good little recycler. Not one minute later she calls out again from across the lobby, "it's after six o'clock, we're closed!" I responded in confusion "I thought you told me to wrap up, would you like me to go?" Again she gave no response, but instead walked right past me to the back room, sending her male counterpart to ask me to leave. ??? I apologize for keeping them late he replied NBD. Very cordial. At no point did they tell me what I was about to find out: I carried out my remaining cans only to discover I just left with $20 worth of useless receipts. At the bottom of the receipt it reads: "Receipts are only valid on the same day and at the location printed above." Oh well. Now I know. :) And you do too. read more

This place has gone way down hill over the last several years, and even then, it wasn't that nice to begin with. The concept is great, if it actually worked. But 9 times out of 10, something isn't functioning correctly when you show up leaving you with a miserable experience or a completely wasted trip. Quite often the pull down door around back that is used to deposit the green bags full of cans is so jammed full that you can't even fit your bags in there, or you have to practically crawl half way through the opening to force your bag inside. And then forget about it if you need additional green bags or to print new labels... the machine inside is constantly broken. Don't get me wrong. I'm all for recycling and doing my part to help save the planet, but frankly, this just isn't worth it anymore. And it's a shame, because it could be so much better. read more

Nothing like feeling like you are doing something wrong while returning bottles as you are watched like a hawk. Your machine can act up they don't rush over to help no that is bothersome but it the machine prints a ticket early lookout they are on your heels like fly's on &*(* . I did call and complain and ask what the rules are about the daily limit since you see people in there with well over the limit on a daily basis and was told by corporate it is a suggested limit but if you have a little left, they are not going to stop you. Well Daphne will in Tigard she will kick you out, my thing was is she going to pay for my gas to come back and finish? It really got me when I watch her let her friend go over and she just chatted away like nothing I have never been treated so rudely by a manager as she of a business I will not return to the Tigard location. please keep in mind it was not a busy day no lines open machines there was no need for this. read more

Always busy with waiting lines curving around the building corner. CS lines too. Kiosk machines sometimes not working so line at CS even longer. We use the bag drop off system but sometimes the terminal is out of order but heaven forbid an employee putting up a note. Very hard to get new drop bags at other locations/kiosks as they are almost always sold out; and you have to wait in line at a Center. oh well this is the service I remember almost always getting from my (state/federal) government as a tax paying; law abiding citizen. Even when lines stretch outside around the corner, it always seems to move quickly (the very patient and helpful BottleDrop Associates maintain order). Everytime I go to the Tigard Bottle Drop to drop my green bags full of cans, the minute you open the drop door it is already stuffed with tones of green bags. You can never drop your cans/ Bottles. The last time I dropped them I had to shove the bags of bottles aside to get my 4 bags in the building. Then I check my account and they only credited me for 3 bags. They shorted me 1 bag. So you have to wait 7 days to report they cheated you. I called 2 days in a row and both days I was on hold for over a hour. Frustrated I finally hung up. I sent them a message regarding them owing me $9.00 for the other 3 bags were $8.40, $9.00 & $9.00. So lets see how long this takes. This store is so disorganized. You should beable to drop your bags off and get credited for what you drop off. Very FRUSTRATING. read more

This has got to be the worst bottle drop ever. And only because of the people working there. They are extremely rude. My mom went there this morning and as soon as she walked in meth mouth lady started talking to her in an extremely rude way. Then after a few minutes of her being there the male employee approached her and told her she needed to leave screaming at her telling her "get out now". My mom was in shock, she didn't know what she had done wrong. The employee then proceeded to print her receipt and grabbed her bags slamming them into the cart and yelled at her to "get out" again. My mom left the place in tears. This seems to be the way these people operate. I have seen a lot of reviews with the same complaint. If anyone knows of a place where people can actually talk to someone to complaint about these employees and do something about it please comment because something needs to be done. They seem to be getting away with the way they treat customers so they continue to do what they do! read more

I'm really struggling to see how this is an improvement over the old system of individual bottle returns at each store. Sure the machines aren't as "picky" (meaning you aren't forced to take safeway-branded containers to safeway, and kroger-branded to fred meyer), but the machines reject containers left, right, and center fo the sin of "not being sold at this store." The machines are also somewhat picky about just how fast you put containers in the receptacle, admonishing the user for "throwing" containers if they place them in the hole with all but the most delicate of touches. Still, they seem more reliable than the old machines, but that is not high praise. Redeeming the vouchers is nice and streamlined, at least. Simply print the slip, head over to the cash machine, and receive greenbacks for your efforts. While returning cans/bottles has never been a particularly enjoyable process, BottleDrop takes it to the next level. Even before CoVid, one could expect long lines/wait times, and a crippling lack of staff. Naturally, being chronically understaffed leads to stressed out employees dealing with stressed out customers in a feedback loop of misery. Then we get to the clientele. While one can certainly observe a cross-section of suburban life in the lines of this humble establishment, one also encounters a large amount of unhoused and other folks living at the margins of society. We're talking addicts and the mentally ill, folks. Thank goodness we have such robust social services in this country, otherwise, I'd think there was a serious probl-oh, right. It's not uncommon to see police heading to and from this location. I was accosted by a particular obnoxious person who kept accusing me and others of stealing her cans. Occasionally, cars get broken into, and once in a blue moon, someone has a psychotic episode in the facility. I think it would behoove them to invest in security personnel. Part of me wonders if some of the motivation for switching to centralized redemption locations was concentrating these sorts of happenings to fewer locations instead of throughout the metro area's grocery stores. Granted, this experience could probably be avoided by signing up for the dropoff service, but reading reviews leads me to believe that it is not nearly as reliable or convenient as the OBRC would like us to believe. read more

I thought that dropping the green bags off would be the easiest, most straightforward thing to do; however, after dropping off 7 bags, and 11 days later I still haven't gotten my account credited. I contacted them after 8 days and they still have not responded. I have tried contacting them multiple times since and haven't heard anything back. I guess my advice is to not trust that your green bags will be credited to your account. And don't count on being helped. read more

Every Bottle Drop location is disgusting and poorly set up. This is a terrible new system and it needs to change.

Come here often and it can be smelly and the floors can be very sticky at times but the staff truly does their best to keep the place nice and clean. They have a green bag drop off program but you are better off doing it yourself. It's not worth the charge and they often make mistakes that work in their favor. I am dropping this to two stars because they have an employee who constantly yells at customers about how they are breaking the law. There is a way to approach this and yelling at customers is not the way to do it. We are in the middle of a pandemic and people are struggling. read more

I love the convenience of dropping my bags in the back door. However, one day my card wasn't working so I went to the customer service desk, which was a terribly miserable experience. The lady working there basically said, "well the card works for me so I don't know what to tell you." I told her I tried scanning it several times on the back door and it wouldn't open. She said she would take my bags for me, which I said was fine, but I'd love to have a working card for future drops. So I asked if it she can print a new one - this is where she became irrationally annoyed with me. She shook her head in disgust, threw my keys with the fob on it back at me, printed the new card, tossed it across the table and said "BYE" in a super condescending tone. This is appalling behavior for someone working in customer service. Your job is to help customers when there is an issue - the least you can do is PRETEND to be friendly. read more

I went to the bottle drop at 5pm on Thursday october 8th we were told that they were open till 6pm and had waited in line for 40minutes, by the time we made it into the bottle drop, they said there was 5 minutes left 10 minutes before they claimed to close, I was one of the last in line and saw that there were 7 machines not working, and none of the workers seemed to care as they were physically pushing people out the door and yelling at the costumers to leave when it hadn't even hit 6pm. read more

Straight forward system to redeem bottles for cash, option to create an account as well. In the summer it can get busy, coming early will help and it started to get crowded by 10am on a Monday this week which was surprising. Also, if you have foreign cans or bottles but it still has the marker it is good to go, just take them to the counter. The kind female emoloyee today told me it was good as long as it was marked and even an Odwalla juice bottle that was unmarked was good because it has 1 year to be marked. Great insight and info from the employee. Clearly marked bins for bags and a hand washing station make this place a simple but useful area to recycle. Lots of locations too! read more

4 star for the process! I love having bags to fill at home and drop off when they are full. Less mess and hassle for me to deal with! You can even mix plastic, aluminum and glass in the same bag! I just withdrew money from our account at the Tigard location, which was super easy. I haven't used the facility itself to deposit the cans/bottles/glass, but it looks pretty straight forward. I have been going to the bottle return place for years and this will probably be my last!!! I just had a few bottles so I always go the the hand count area as I did today. I had just walked in was trying to get in line (6 feet apart) and this mad woman came out from behind where they hand count the bottles Yelling at me to get outside!!! I was so shocked I ran out the door. People like her should not be working with the public. I did not get her name she was an older woman. I am so disappointed, it would have not been a problem if she would have asked nicely, but being yelled at with everyone in the whole place able to hear her was not called for!!! I guess there were too many people in line etc.. I have not idea. I will not be back!! read more

My only complaint is the constant lack of staff to help at the counter to hand count bottles/cans that the machines wouldn't take; the line can get long and on busy days one person is stuck up front with no help and has mountains of cans to take the back and angry patrons. I had to stick up for a younger gal a few weeks back when she was obviously overwhelmed and some jerk starts yelling at her about being faster when it was very busy and she had no help. Otherwise I love the convenience of the location to my apartment, it is usually very clean although some machines are a little worse than others. I don't know what smell another review was talking about either. Way better than returning cans at the grocery store where there's 2 machines that break constantly. read more

Frustrating place. The machines generally work fine. The problem is the people who return. Yesterday, a fellow had his two children returning with him. The kids were no more than 4&6. They were using 2 slots. SUPER slow. Plus the families with senile grandpa and 5 year olds that come in with 1500 cans and hog 5 machines. I suggested that the restrict the age of kids who can return. The response was "We don't want to discourage young recyclers." Really? So you're ok with discouraging adults who responsibly return and don't have the time to wait while those young recyclers have a good time? The line was halfway across the parking lot because of this. Get serious and make this service work for all. read more

Inconvenient and crowded. This is place is a great idea but needs some areas of improvement. You could just drop them off and have them do the work.......... for a charge. The good thing is that it cuts down on the amount of weirdos hanging out at your local grocery store recycling center. Just a heads up. I received a message from Tyler F. asking me to change my review to a better rating. He may have had a better experience at this location than I did, or he may be an employee. Anyway, my original review stands and I doubt that I will ever go there again. Interestingly, in his review he shows doing 702 returnables, Their rules clearly state that the limit is 350 per person per day. Maybe this is why people are waiting so long. read more

I signed up for a bottle drop account and on my very first three bags I dropped off at the same time on April 30 -they only credited me for 2. They haven't responded to my emails nor have I been able to make phone contact with them. I am trying to not have to waste time going in so I can do something more useful and because of COVID, but they make it almost impossible to attempt to resolve any other way. My guess is either sloppiness or theft is possibly occuring but management doesn't seem to care. It's a shame that we have to actually go in, and during a pandemic, to make sure we get the full credit of our drop offs. read more

The tall skinny older lady that runs the counter has to be the most miserable soul I have ever encountered. Every time I go there I am subjected to listening to her talk down to everyone there as if everyone is the dumbest 7 year old she has ever dealt with. Today she was berating a nice Hispanic lady in her 60's if I had to guess. The lady had a bag of partially crushed can that wouldn't scan. She dumped half out in the hand count bin and the complaining from the counter lady began. I don't want any more of your garbage she said, the Hispanic lady said " I'm sorry I no hear you" so mrs miserable said it much louder " I don't want anymore of your garbage, I need a damned break". Mind you it was dead in there, there was 4 empty machines and no lines. I bet she wouldn't talk to a white lady like that. If you hate your job go find a new one. And when your glass machine is broke put up a sign instead of coming out of the back every time a bottle goes in to yell at every to stop putting glass in the machines. There's a new customer coming in every few minutes that didn't get yelled at yet. You people are miserable. read more

I give the Tigard redemption center 3 stars, which is an average from multiple visits, some of which were great (worthy of 5 stars) and some not so great (worthy of 2 stars). I am a proponent of Oregon's bottle return law and have been returning my containers for over 20 years. In general, I don't like the fact that the process now requires each container to be scanned; I used to go to the store, a human clerk would count the containers and give me a credit slip. It was fast and easy. But, times change, and corporations have automated it to save money. "Automation" made the process much more onerous for the end user, who now has to feed each container into a scanning machine. Since it is highly unlikely that stores will return to paying clerks to count containers, I guess automation is here to stay. That being the case, I love the bottle drop concept! It's still onerous, but less so, for the customer to return containers. The cooperative effort gets the bottle returns out of the grocery stores, where the machines were slow, often not working, and cumbersome to use. The machines at the bottle drop are much more reliable and better at reading bar codes, they're faster, they take almost all of the containers regardless of where they were purchased, and there is an attendant to help. In practice, though, there is room for improvement. Here are two suggestions for improvement: 1) You cannot return containers to stores any more so all the containers purchased on the west side of Portland have only one place to go, the Tigard center. Having one redemption center for all of the west side is not adequate for the demand. Plus it's way out in the 'burbs. I have to drive over twenty minutes, practically to King City, to return my containers. There is a need for a bottle drop somewhere near downtown, Hillsdale or Multnomah village. Putting a center closer into Portland would decrease the lines inTigard. 2) When I first went to bottle drop, there was a cart waiting and no lines. I was in and out. It was great and I loved it. The last two times I went, this week, there were long lines and no carts available. I had to wait 30 minutes to get to a machine to deposit my containers. It was a pain in the a$$. This was during a week day, and I would expect weekend visits to be much more crowded and more of a pain. Install more machines and if there are going to be daily lines, get more carts. Here's one last suggestion for improvement: maybe a human clerk could be available to count the containers during peak times and provide a credit slip... read more

I wasted two hours of my life first last night waiting in line after a long a week at work and then, when I finally was able to enter horrendously smelling building(even through my mask) - all machines stopped working and the only suggestion from the staff was to go another location - no addresses were provided. I consider stop buying anything in returnable containers because returning them is way too much of a hassle. This business is very poorly run: I had an unfortunate experience coming there after work a few weeks ago, as an essential employee and wasting my time waiting in line (after all, online posting was indicating they were closing at 6pm). Little did I know - they slammed the door in front of my nose at 5pm and no one had any explanation as to why online posting was telling they are open till 6pm - I knocked on the door and asked what is going on. The only advice they had is to visit on weekend - like I have nothing else to do with my time when I need to catch my breath to continue serving people needing help. I will try to return my remaining water cans and will switch to a system where I do not have to deal with returnable containers ever. Enough is enough! read more
