The bartender was able to point out the vegan items on the menu and I ordered the fried cauliflower. It was very good! I thought about getting the hummus plate but the bartender said it was really just so-so, appreciate the candor so I decided not to. Tried the Himalayan Golden tea as well. Having to repost this. Let's see. I got a gift card for my birthday to come here with my daughter and mother for high tea. We thought it would be a fun time to get dressed up to drink tea and eat tasty food. Well, as we get there everyone is dressed in jeans and t shirts and the servers ( excluding ours she was actually very good) were not well kept. Upon sitting down the table was ok, the ambiance was weird. Tea should be a time where you dress up, maybe even just a little but everyone else besides us were in t shirts, jeans and tennis shoes. I know Boulder casual is a thing but this is high tea! There was even a couple college girls who sauntered in a bikini top to use the restroom. The tea we had was good so we started to feel a bit better about it. Even though there was no music and felt void in the atmosphere we chatted and figured we'd make the best of it. We received our amuse bouche. It was a melon coconut smoothie which tasted salty and more like mango milk with chunks and tasted like it would be better on fish. Next we got the gluten free tea platter. It came with cucumber sandwiches egg salad crostini, yellow cake , chocolate cake, rice pudding, pickled veggies and scones. Except for the scones (which were extremely sugary) everything was terrible. The cucumber sandwich might as well have been dry bread. The chocolate cake tasted like cosmic brownies(the cheap ones from your lunch box as a kid) the yellow cake was tasteless, the rice pudding should've been called rice water it was so liquidy you could drink it. The pickled veggies were "ok". I understand it's gluten free but cmon #1 it's Boulder Colorado and I guarantee 1/2 the people here are gluten free. And I myself have found many options that would've been so much better than this. Either they have a terrible supplier or they left our food out for hours to get dry. Great to show up with 8+ people including the 92 year old birthday girl only to have sign posted on door stating they'd be opening at 5 pm. Where do I begin with this place! I love love love everything about Boulder Dushanbe Teahouse. If you are in Boulder, don't miss out on this place. They offer to-go service or outdoor dining on their patio that sits in the sun and offers a great view of the mountains. Sip on some delicious teas, black/green/herbal, whatever your heart desires, they have a huge tea menu to pick from. We discovered they have a ton of food options as well. We were there for lunch and got the char siu bao as our starter. It's served as two pork belly buns with a sweet sesame/chili sauce. For a fresh lunch option, choose the bulgogi lettuce wraps. For more of a sandwich, go with the karaage chicken which comes with a side of thin, crispy fries and let me tell you, they were fire! Now that we know they have a good menu, we are looking forward to trying their brunch next time we pass through town! read more

I have been here numerous times and I will be there again in the future for sure. This place is just a jewel that must be visited if you're in the area. You can look on the website to read the history of this totally hand carved by 40 artists restaurant that came all the way from Tajikastan. (Might be misspelled!). The restaurant was an exchange as a sister city. The food is just as creative as the carving. It's just the most glorious atmosphere in which to savor the tea and foods from all over the world. I had a jasmine tea that was so robust and flavorful I can't even describe the different notes of flavors as they rolled across my tongue just like a fine wine. My friend had the chai tea and it had the same wonderful notes of flavorful spices. Our food was just as tasty. We ordered Kufta from Persia and it was so satisfying. It was chickpea patties in a luxurious tomato sauce. The only description I can give you is you have to go and try it for yourself! Went here due to the great reviews and hype. It was a pretty location, but really poor service and food was just ok. We ordered four dishes--two appetizers and two entrees--and a couple teas. Our server, Kate, was pleasant, and the teas came pretty fast, but all downhill from there. Our food came almost an hour late. Our server said they were just waiting on one of the appetizers, the dolma, but the couple next to us ordered and received their food (including an order of the same dish, dolma) before we did, in just ten minutes. When our food did come, it was just the two entrees. The Persian kufteh was just fine, but it wasn't warm at all, and the egg wasn't cooked the way we'd asked. The Korean pan-fried noodles were good but weren't warm either. The remaining two appetizers only came after another 10 minutes. The Swedish svamptoast could have been good, but the toast had become soggy by the time we got it. And the dolma, too, were just fine and weren't warm either. We had asked earlier about getting hot milk as well in one of the teas, but that didn't come until much later when we asked about it again. We were missing silverware as well. The design and decor of the restaurant is breathtakingly beautiful and unlike anything else in Boulder. The tea selection is vast. On my first visit, I ordered one of the teas with a blooming flower, and it was both delicious and beautiful to look at. NOTE: My photo does not do it justice in the least. The food is also well presented. The bruschetta was delightful on the taste buds, as was the shish kabob. The Thai peanut noodles was a twist on Pad Thai, except it was extremely spicy without much flavor. It was the only thing I didn't love about the experience. In fairness, I probably would've had a great time no matter where we would've gotten dinner but this was a good choice. Our waitress was particularly knowledgeable on all the different kinds of teas. The food options include something from seemingly every part of the world. I went with the Spicy Indonesian Peanut Noodle dish and it was nicely done. I would've enjoyed some additional veggies but I wasn't complaining at all on the amount of protein, peanuts, and the rest. There's more outdoor seating than it looks when you first arrive. That's particularly helpful these days. This restaurant is also just off the beaten path of Pearl street so it's convenient and not overly crowded. Definitely worth checking out. read more

This place should be on everyone's bucket list. It's beautiful, has a very interesting story, and the food/service is wonderful. I used to live in Boulder and would come for afternoon tea or lunch occasionally. I'm kind of mad at myself for not coming more often when I was so close by! While still not far from Denver, it is more of a trek. I highly suggest timing your visit with the farmer's market that happens right out front so you are getting the most out of your trek up! My most recent visit was 6/27/20. We made afternoon tea reservations for my mom's birthday. This was the second restaurant we had been in since things started reopening from COVID. We were a bit nervous as you never know if a restaurant is truly taking the precautions necessary. The Teahouse went above and beyond my expectations. The tables were extra spread out so I didn't feel encroached on at all. They took the mask wearing rule serious and made sure all guests had one while not at their table. And if someone arrived early, they kindly asked them to wait outside so they could truly respect the 6ft rule. As for the food and tea, we happened to come on a weekend where they were doing their special Dim Sum tea service. I wasn't sure what to expect as not many pictures have been posted on Yelp for this special tea. It was an Asian style tea service. So things like potstickers and noodles, etc. Not your typical tea service but it was SO good. And our server was so knowledgeable about every tea and dish served to us. I know having afternoon tea that diverts from the typical cucumber sandwiches and Petit Fours can be scary but it's such a cool experience and everyone should give it a try. My one and only complaint is that I purchased some of their packaged tea to take home with me. I noticed they have a website as well so I went on there after the fact to see all of the options. I found the tea I had purchased in store and it was $7.50 less than what I had paid in store. Not a huge deal but not sure why I paid a premium to purchase it at the actual restaurant. Overall, this is one of those places you take your out of town friends to show off all the cool things Colorado has to offer. I've been to Dushanbe many times and it never disappoints. I stopped a couple days ago for a bite to eat out on the patio. I got golden milk, indian samosas, char sui bao(pork buns), and thai noodle salad. The golden milk was really good and hot the spot. The indian samosas were light and crispy and the char sui bao had really good flavor. The Thai noodle salad was good but I feel like it needed another element to it. I got it with spicy beef and it was definitely spicy! Overall it was another good experience at Dushanbe. They followed all Covid protocols and the food was good as usual. This is a must-try if you have some time in Boulder. There's a back story that involves a sister city and moving parts of this structure overseas to be here, etc so read up before you come to get the most out of it. (Too long for here) Firstly, the service is impeccable and special and I would come back just for that. (Especially if we had Shannon again! She was so helpful!) We ordered off of the tea time menu which allowed us to try a lot of different things/shared plates. We had way too much food but idk when I will get back to Boulder so we wanted to try with too much food and multiple drinks, we still only spent $45 plus tip, which was a terrific deal for such a special vibe/place/experience! We showed up without a reservation when many others had high tea reservations.. (white table cloth, wine glasses, tea towers, etc).. so you might want to think about that if you have a group. We waited about 35 minutes but hostesses were so nice and efficient and kept things moving along. We ended up at a cute little table in the window during a snowstorm so very worth the wait. My daughter loved the meatballs..I'm not a meat eater and loved the samosas and Japanese noodle salad. You would need to go a dozen times to try all the drinks that interested you. After going on the tea tour at Celestial Seasonings, my friend and I decided to head over to a trendy part of Boulder. I was in Colorado in July 2014. I parked my rental Beetle and we walked around. We came across Boulder Dushanbe Teahouse. Both of us drink tea practically daily. We looked at the menu and the beautiful tea garden steps away from the main entrance. We both needed a refreshing beverage and some lunch. We decided to give this place a shot. We were promptly seated and got menus. We were more thirsty than hungry. My friend got hot peppermint tea. She gets hot tea no matter how hot it is outside. I got the following items: - Hibiscus iced tea - Hummus plate - Butter cake with chocolate gelato The hibiscus iced tea was fabulously refreshing. It was flavourful and the mint leaf was a nice touch. I had the hummus plate, which was exactly the right portion size for me. I wasn't hungry for a huge dish, so this appetizer hit the spot. The hummus was creamy, bright, and yummy. I loved the pita and cherry tomatoes. I am not a huge olive person, so I left those alone. For dessert, we split the butter cake with chocolate gelato. Wow, were they good! The butter cake was moist and flavourful. I enjoyed the chocolate gelato. It hit the spot on a hot day. I'd love to come back here. The interior is gorgeous. We came here on a lazy Thursday afternoon after hiking nearby. We were immediately seated inside and appreciated the beautiful decor. It really is quite stunning and I urge those who can to come. The tea selection is also quite expansive. I ordered the tranquili-tea and the romantic garden as I am currently on a lavender kick. My boyfriend ordered an assortment of other peppermint teas as well as the apricot ginger scone. The teas were great and very soothing. The apricot ginger scone was exceptionally dry and almost Curb Your Enthusiasm level of choking. Come here for the ambiance and tea, maybe for a special occasion to do the afternoon tea, but independently, I might avoid the scones. I didn't try any of the food so that will perhaps need to be next time. For those who like to take pictures, the lighting when we arrived and where we were positioned was not that great. I had a lovely afternoon here with a group of girlfriends. We came in for afternoon tea (make sure to reserve via phone or email at least 24 hours in advance) and we opted to get a $5 mimosa in addition to our tea. With the high tea, you can sample as many teas as you like and the come in darling little white pots. All the teas were delicious and a treat to try. We also got two sandwich triangles, two egg salad crostinis, 3 mini cakes, one puff pastry and one scone each. We got some assorted creams and jams as well. Overall, it was a littttttle overpriced for $25 pp, its not like the food was all that amazing, BUT you are definitely paying more for the experience and the novelty of tea time. I have looked up tons of other places, and this is by far the most affordable tea service. Not to mention you get to enjoy the stunning interior of the tea house. The outside courtyard looks lovely and I'm sure it's nice to sit out there when the weather is warm. The only downside to our event was the service. Our sever was extremely slow in bringing us anything, and several things we asked for never came at all (new tea cups to go from the creamy chai to the non-milk teas, extra napkins and even a pot of tea). We came in at 4 on a Friday and the tea house was maybe 30% at the absolute most so not sure what the hold up was. It was also really tough getting his attention to ask for things since he barely stopped by our table to check on us. Despite the hiccup with service, I would still say it's worth checking this place out and enjoying either tea time or a full meal. There is no doubt that the Boulder Dushanbe is a very special place and a very unique atmosphere (only reason why I give it a two star)! However, their food and service are mediocre as best and does not justify their high prices at all. We wanted to treat my mom for her 79th birthday to something very special and decided to go for the Dim Sum & Oolong Afternoon Tea Service because she is a huge tea fan. Although we mentioned her birthday in the reservation and later to the server, they didn't acknowledge this at all. There was no Happy Birthday or special treat or decoration of her plate (something even much smaller and less fancy restaurants would do). The biggest let down was that after we arrived (sharply at our reservation time), it took more than 30 min before the server arrived at our table, brought water, and started with the courses. I don't think I ever waited that long to even get water and he did not even apologize for the long wait. Strikingly, the Teahouse was not busy at all at this time and this demonstrates a major organizational flaw there. To our surprise, the server also served the Oolong tea to our kids (8- and 11-years old) without asking or offering any alternatives for them - Oolong tea has a very unique flavor and can contain up to 53 mg of caffeine per 8-fl oz serving - something you maybe don't want to serve your kids late in the afternoon. When he came back for another round of tea, we had to ask him whether we could substitute the Oolong tea with a herbal tea for the kids (which they thankfully did). We also had to ask him whether you could explain more about the Oolong tea served as he was initially not sharing that information. The kids were also automatically included in the Dim Sum service although the Dushanbe Teahouse normally offers special menu items for kids. Not sure whether they offer this option during their Dim Sum & Oolong Afternoon Service or not, but this for sure is not kid- or family-friendly when they can't choose from the many menu options. This is so astonishing as their regular English Style Afternoon Tea Service offers at least offers a reduced price of $15 for children under the age 9, but a 7-year old here has to eat the spicy Dim Sum items and drink highly caffeinated Oolong tea.... The food itself was not spectacular at all and rather boring. Whoever had real Dim Sum before will quickly realize that this is not connected to typical Dim Sum items at all. Even though they had pictures of dumplings on their website, they did not serve a single dumpling (or potsticker) or filled bun (and the amazing looking glazed spare rib has been removed from their menu, too). We have been to many, many Chinese communities across the states and had Dim Sum at multiple places (and our kids love potstickers!), but none of the items served here ever came up in any of these traditional Chinese Dim Sum places (apart from maybe the fried sesame balls, but they were not tasty at all). When we got the final bill, there were even more surprises: The Dim Sum information site on the Boulder Dushanbe Teahouse does not mention a 4% Kitchen & Farmer Living Wage Surcharge or that a 18% gratuity will automatically be added to parties of 6 or more. Nothing against paying living wage, but why is the teahouse so secretive about it and not just include it to the event price? I want to know in advance what fees and surcharges they slap you with. Mind you, the mandatory gratitude and 4% surcharge are fully (sales-)taxed as well. In the end, we paid for 4 adults (the two kids didn't really eat anything and had one shared pot of peppermint tea) $240 - or $60 per person - totally not worth it and we really regret going there for what was supposed to be a very memorable family experience. Any other Dim Sun place for sure would have done better for much less money. read more

Stop with the reservation madness!!! Seriously, here I am, world traveler, always looking for something delicious and unique. We were heading from Denver to Estes Park, and could have stopped at a Starbucks, but I said, "Honey, look at this beautiful place." Great, they're not even busy. Empty tables over looking a beautiful waterway beneath lush grapevines and foliage. I ask for a table, and the woman says we have a forty-five minute wait. But...there are ten open tables--literally. Those are reserved. Now, don't get me wrong, I understand saving reservations for parties of twelve, but two-tops? It just doesn't make sense to hold a table open for half an hour. So ...I paid $18 for three small coffees, and I don't get the experience. I just don't understand why companies want to alienate hundreds of guests instead of -- perhaps -- asking everyone to wait a few minutes. We would have drank our coffees and been long gone before the reservees arrived. Seriously, owners, stop doing this! You have a beautiful place. What to start with.. . If you want to enjoy the interior and have a good cup of tea - definitely visit. It's very nice and ethnic. If you're looking for a good Tajikistan food (Dushanbe, in the name of the place, is the capital), this is definitely not the best place. I've been to many places around the world, including xUSSR countries (Russia, Kazakhstan, Ukraine where this food is great!), and so far this one has the worst plov/pilav and shish kebabs. I've got a rather overburned meat on the screwar with burned vegetables (picture attached) and a very strange pilav: meat on the side, a very basic rice taste with just a few other ingredients (carrots). Is not even close to Tajikistan plov as being claimed in the menu. Dear chef and restaurant management, this is not acceptable. read more

Food took FOREVER, after everyone else around us who ordered after us received their food I had to ask à server where ours was. When it finally came, I had to ask for cutlery, and then tea refills later. My meal was decent, my son's was not. He had the banh mi but only wanted meat, bread & fries. Honestly, it looked gross. I will not return anytime soon for lunch but would come back just for tea. Pretty disappointed. read more
