The service was fantastic! My husband got the beef brisket sandwich with onion rings and said the sandwich was one of the best he'd ever had. I had the southwest chicken wrap with a side salad (blue cheese)- the dressing was soooo good. The wrap was very tasty, but I would've liked more sauce (because that was FLAVORFUL). We were looking for a quick lunch before some of our family had to leave after the Christmas holiday. On a whim we went to Boulevard Grill and it was one of the best decorations we have made. The atmosphere, food, drinks and service were all incredible. Both of my children who can be on the pickier side when it comes to food finished their entire plates. I don't understand the positive reviews and word of mouth this place gets. My wife and I went in for dinner one night. The hostess seemed annoyed that we were there...(it wasn't late or near closing) but seated us upstairs where we waited 20 minutes for a server. The large blue, red and yellow building draws you into the wide open lounge and bar. Decorated with mostly wood and turquoise you will find bright colors of shocking pink, greens, blues and yellow all adding their cheerful displays from the napkins to the hanging lights. The Boulevard screams nostalgia and history, knowing the booths in the lounge were once in an old Philadelphia Hotel and the doors that you enter through are from an old Woolworth's and the other set from an old Synagogue http://blvdgrill.com//lore The walls are adorned with framed old stock and bond certificates and a wreath made from wine corks. The bar offers draught and bottled beers from Ireland, Belgium, England, Germany, Domestic and more, most selections are available every day although they do have a rotation menu and they take their beer very seriously. How seriously you may ask, walk past the large lounge up a few steps and into the game room where you will find show cased displays of beer taps and old collectible beer cans. The game room has an old cigarette machine where you can purchase a pack for $6.25, although you can not smoke these pricey babies while shooting pool. Walking upstairs takes you to a semi enclosed atrium with garden plants and I was a bit envious that we had not chosen to dine here as it was a beautiful day and very inviting. Off from the atrium is another large dining area which hosts a coffee bar offering lattes, espresso, cappuccinos or a nice variety of a dozen or so laced coffee drinks, such as the coffee nudge which has coffee liqueur, vodka and dark Creme De Cacao. They have a nice selection of wines by the bottle although the selections by the glass could be greatly improved. They feature a Chef's tasting menu which is paired with wines from around the world. While enjoying a comedy act, "Shakespeare" or live music such as jazz in either the Grill or the Warehouse you can order anything from the full menu. Frank greeted us when we walked into the Boulevard and invited us to sit wherever we would like. A good looking pleasant young man who was the bartender and serving the guests. We chose a high backed wooden booth which was amply padded and very comfortable, however knowing we were in town my sister in law and brother in law called us and asked if they could join us, so we moved to a larger table. The menu is awesome and the food is so very good that if I lived in town I would make this one of my favorite places to go. Hubby is still talking about the huge bowl of seafood bisque that we ordered. Delicately laced with sherry and swimming in cream were tender baby sea scallops, shrimp and lump crab meat. It is good that we decided to share this amazing bisque as it was a meal in itself. Truly one of the best bowls of soup we have enjoyed in our life. They also offer an Italian Wedding soup. They have a long list of inventive appetizers plus familiars like steamers, pick and peel shrimp and various wings. Knowing we had dinner plans later in the day we decided to not overload. Their fries are fresh hand cut and you can go with either the waffle cut or the standard cut which is what I did along with my cheeseburger. Not sure if this owner is from the Philly area but all over the menu you see "proudly offers Amoroso bread and rolls". They also offer the Philly cheesesteak done several ways, but the menu also has "Pittsburgh style" sandwiches as well as Chicago, so maybe he is just nation and state friendly. I had a Black Angus half pound cheeseburger which was char grilled and just how I love them, along with the hand cut fries, the burger was huge and the portion of fries were for sharing. My sister in law had the cup of seafood bisque and since we had already ordered and they came when our meals arrived, I offered her half of my burger and fries and she accepted. Hubby had the 'Coney Island Nathan's" hot dog, which surprised me since we had been to Coney Island the weekend before and had pigged out on these. My brother in law seeing his ordered the same thing and they both got a side of the red skinned potato salad. The hot dogs on long buns were the size of two Coney Island hot dogs that you would find at the original site and dressed the same with the sauce and mustard but they use a red onion instead of the minced white. I noticed neither ate more than one bite of the potato salad and for hubby not to finish potato salad is odd indeed, so I had a bite. The salad was good but there was absolutely no seasoning other than dill, it greatly needed salt and pepper and then it would be dynamite. Now what we ordered did not pay homage to this restaurant, because they offer fabulous sounding homemade raviolis, pasta dishes, steaks, sandwiches, wraps, chicken and veal dishes as well as many vegetarian and seafood entrees and appetizers. The service was friendly, the food was fabulous, the decor and concept is amazing and I would not hesitate to return. read more

We stopped in for lunch and they still had their St. Patrick's Day specials!! Score!! Ordered a nice pint of Guinness to start things off right... We started with the Bourbon Wings...they were perfectly crispy and the sauce was caramel Bourbon deliciousness!! I had the Shepherd Pie...pretty standard but really good and filling. My husband had the Caesar Salad with Grilled Salmon...perfectly grilled salmon on a grilled romaine heart with fresh parmesan. My Mum had the Steak Salad without fries...a large portion of nicely grilled steak over fresh greens. Our waiter Ray was great. Where to begin??? This is in my top 3 places in johnstown! Food: Spectacular. Bar food if you'd like, but soooo much more. The seafood chowder (weekend only) is to die for. My personal fave is the chicken Mac and cheese. Other favorites include BBQ chicken bacon sandwich...you choose a side: potato salad, tortellini salad, tomato cucumber salad or beer battered fries or sweet potato fries. Salads: always good. You can get then in a homemade tortilla bowl if you'd like - so good! Husband likes the burgers, salmon pita (see pic), wild mushroom and Brie flatbread, and they usually have great specials. Atmosphere: There are several areas to this place which are all very different. There is the main bar area, adjacent side room with large tv, upstairs main, upstairs enclosed patio, warehouse for events and banquets, newly renovated speakeasy, and a game room. The wife and I eat her with some regularity (every few weeks). The wait staff is always polite and attentive. It's a high point in dining for the area (would you like pizza, pizza, subs, or... pizza?). Sometimes I'll eat vegetarian and they do have more than a few choices on those occasions. Look at the weekly specials - while I was not thrilled with one of their more "pub food" offerings, I have enjoyed others. Oh my! I loved this place from the outside. My husband's an RN and he passes this place frequently and it looks so inviting! I wish that was the case when you entered the building. We came today for lunch at 12:30pm. We noticed that there was a sign directing patrons who were attending a luncheon to enter from a different entrance. So, no worries, we figured it would be busy. We entered the bar entrance and noticed that all the tables lining the wall were full, so we made ourselves comfortable at the beautiful bar. When we sat, I noticed an old peice of meat on the bar right in front of me, but no biggie. I figured the bartender qould wipe the bar when she saw we were seated. We were thrilled to see the draft choices! Eventually a server/bartender came by and asked if we wanted drinks, we both ordered craft beers. My husband asked what their choices were, and she rudely told him to read the sign. This was our first visit, so we weren't aware of this sign. Also, she didn't qipe down the bar. Instead, I grabbed a napkin and cleaned up the mess. She never offered us menus. She was back and forth, but didn't once ask us if we wanted another beer, a menu, or if we were ok. It was one of the ruder experiences that I have had! So, we drank our 6.50 beers and promptly got out of there! Sadly, they lost a nice check from us. We would have loved to have had a meal, but apparently? This person did not want to serve us. However, we saw her fawn over other entering patrons! We went to Nico's instead. You need to eat here! I went with a large group for a party this past weekend and it was by far the best all around experiences I have had with the amount of people we had. The waitresses were quick about taking our drink orders and getting them to us. I had the pumpkin-tini and I had to order another because it was actually passed around the table for everyone to try because it was so good! The waitresses were also good about getting us refills before we finished our previous drink. After placing our orders, the side salads arrived quickly and were typical dinner side salads- nothing to write home about. For my main meal I ordered the crab cake dinner with a baked sweet potato on the side. Incredible. This was hands down the best crab cake I've had. I also tried bites of the steak and it was also very well done. Those who ordered this dish said it was the best steak they have eaten in years. We were pretty shocked when we discovered you get ONE side and no salad. The menu stated that you get two sides with your entree. The waitress stated that the menu was incorrect. Huh? Why are you passing out incorrect menus and not stating that upfront? We eat out frequently and have never eaten at a restaurant that didn't offer two sides or at least a side salad to start, especially at these prices. Visiting our daughter at UPJ, and this was our first trip into Johnstown. We picked The Boulevard based on menu and other reviews. We we're greeted right away and told to sit wherever we want. That was interesting since it is carved into various spaces on two floors. We could go three more times and feel like a new visit. Our waitress was super-cheerful in spite of having to hoof the stairs. Menu has a lot of good choices. We went for sandwiches since it was a late lunch, and no one went wrong with their choice. It's hard to rate a place that's so inconsistent, ranging from amazing to sad. We've had wings that were off the charts fantastic; we've also had wings that were rubbery (despite requesting extra crispy) and bland. We've had spinach artichoke dip that was richly flavored, and the same item that just tasted like hot cream cheese (yuck!). Pizza has been best ever and unimpressive. Whoever made the poke the one night we tried it apparently didn't realize it requires flavor (at least soy sauce and sesame oil), not just a stack of raw tuna. Service is generally attentive and personable in the bar, a mixed bag in the dining areas. The beer menu is always good, though prices, as with the food, are higher than elsewhere. The food menu is creative but not always worth the price--quality control is definitely needed--and the overly bright lights, better suited to a diner than a place trying to be high end, don't help. read more

This place is a must! I love to watch "Food TV" or read reviews about places but have often been disappointed when trying the meals they feature. I am not picky, just haven't found many meals to be thrilled over. Well, that was not the case today at Boulevard Grill I had the Nashville Hot Chicken sweet potato wafflewich and homemade chips. One of best sandwiches I've eaten. Everything on the sandwich married very well together. The chicken as very moist inside and crisp outside. The waffle "buns" were delicious as were the chips. Lauren, the bartender/waitress/manager was super friendly and attentive. My husband had the fried haddock and our friend the Inferno Burger. Both were cooked perfectly. Love this place. Great for lunch, dinner and events. They have delicious sandwiches and soups. My favorite is the rib eye steak sandwich. For dinner I get the rib eye with crab topping (steak Maryland). I also love their finger foods for events ... wings, dips, mini tacos, egg rolls, peroghies and pizza ... mmmm sooo good. They have a small room they call a speak easy and a larger room for bigger parties. Staff are friendly and courteous. We hosted a baby shower in the larger banquet room. Atmosphere was beautiful and comfortable. This room is great because of the size, street access entry, and restrooms apart from the bar/restaurant. Planning and executing this event was effortless with the staff's help. They were extremely flexible with how we wanted to decorate / personalize our event. The food was outstanding (highly recommend their Boulevard Chicken on buffet menu - to die for). Service was attentive, accommodating and professional. Their assistance with setting up our tech needs for slide show and audio was great. This restaurant wasn't what I was hoping for. I had read that they had craft beer and was hoping to find a new one to try. They did have ONE but it wasn't that great. We ordered the BBQ Bacon Cheddar Chicken sandwich. Out of everything we ordered it was the favorite. For your side of fries you could get them seasoned. We chose Cajun. It was a nice change and they had a little kick to them. We also ordered an appetizer plate that had mozzarella triangles, fries, onion rings, 2 sliders, and 3 chicken tenders. It was a lot of food, but it was typical bar food. I wish I had ordered one of their soups or entrees instead. The locals seem to enjoy it here. read more

My wife and I frequent the Boulevard Grill often. I guess you might say it is our go to place when we don't feel like cooking or just to pop in for a beverage. Always enjoy the staff and the great treatment we receive. We held my mother's surprise birthday party in the Warehouse yesterday afternoon. We had 135 guest and I must say, Donny, Amy, Chelsea and Miranda hit it out of the park. The food was great, the accommodations and service was outstanding. The attention to detail was excellent. We had more than enough food and the guest kept commenting on how good the food was. I highly recommend The Boulevard Grill for any banquet, party or any occasion. The food was amazing! My husband and I ordered a few different things and were very pleased with every plate! We've only been here a couple of times and each time it has been a good experience. I will point out that the last time we were here I felt a little uneasy with one of the bartenders. I cant remember her name, but she was very negative while behind the bar and it felt like she didn't want to be there. I do understand that not everyone wants to be at work, but it shouldn't have affected our eating experience. Hey, now I know - it's not a grill, it's a frat house. Addendum - 24FEB17 As much as I tried to avoid The Boulevard Grill & Warehouse, I found myself there once again, this time for a post-funeral meal served buffet style. After a couple of sips of my drink, I noticed my glass had a chip in the rim. Of course I brought this to the attention of the waitress who dutifully brought me another glass. The second glass had so much residue in its bottom, I could not only see it, but also feel it. I ended up drinking my beer from the bottle (after holding it up to the light and inspecting it VERY carefully). OK, I can understand that in the heat of battle a chipped glass may be overlooked, but to present a dirty glass to a customer in inexcusable. The food - The pulled pork was almost flavorless. The Margherita pizza seemed to be made from Bisquick, the bottom so unbaked that it was snow white. On top were scattered a handful of diced tomatoes and the stingiest amount of fresh basil. Yuck. Then there was the Brie and mushroom pizza. Double yuck! After another bad experience, I can only say, either I suffer some bad juju whenever I walk into this joint or The Boulevard Grill is terminally mediocre, at best. read more

Don and his team are extremely easy to work with and go above and beyond to make it a perfect day. The food is always delicious and they were also able to offer gluten free options. The Warehouse left me with mixed feelings. Everyone in our party found the food to be pretty good, but nothing to really jump up and down about. The one thing that stood out to me is that they offer a pretty decent amount of vegetarian dishes which is really great if that's your cup of tea. What really lowered the review to 3 stars for me were all the up charges on each menu item. For example all burgers come with Potato or Macaroni salad, and to substitute fries it's an extra $1.75 . That's a bit much being the burgers are already 9-10 bucks a piece. Another oddity is you have to pay .25 cents for each topping for your burger... that's .25 to add lettuce, .25 to add onion, .25 to add tomato etc. Really?? That's just downright absurd! If you order a dozen wings (just ok by the way) you have to pay an extra dollar for the Blue Cheese or Ranch... Anyway I think you get the point. I think I would really like this place if it wasn't for their lack of normality when it comes to prices.... Cut the up charges, and this place might be a great place to continue going back too. If not.... I'd recommend going to some of the other local places that are just as good without getting Nickled and Dimmed to death. read more

We held a reception following my cousin's funeral at the Boulevard. It was overall a wonderful experience, especially in the light of the circumstances. The staff was so accommodating and attentive! Every drink stayed full throughout the evening, but they weren't intrusive and were very professional. We had a mix of hors d'oeuvres, and they provided a wonderful variety. From the mini crab cakes to the amazing cole slaw and pulled pork, every choice was incredible. The cakes tasted home made, and were also delicious! Telephone: 814-539-5344, and on the tubes at: http://www.blvdgrill.com/ Permit me to summarize, and then, I will break it down for you, dear reader: The Boulevard Grill in Johnstown, PA has very simple tastes--they only settle for the best: The best people, the best beers, the best food, and the best venue. Let's talk about the people. Lisa, who handled our affair, is "Aces". It was clear from start to finish that she was at home with the task at hand. She left no stone un-turned to make her guests satisfied from start to finish. People like Lisa make the difference between the ordinary and the extraordinary. She is a "gem". The management also deserves a special shout out. First, mad props to you and your enterprise for handling our special occasion in a 100% top notch fashion. Top management knows they can't do it alone. With people like Lisa on your team--you are destined to win. Now, the beers: Beer is proof god loves us. The Boulevard Grill keep a steady supply of diverse and top rated craft brews on draught, and ready to go at all times. For those that prefer something more mainstream--they cater to those tastes as well. Beer is my favorite, but there were a couple of wines on the wine list here I have drunk, and, can personally recommend: Red - Root 1 Carmenere - My new favorite red grape. History lesson: The name Root:1 stands for the fact that the vines used to make these wines are all very old vines and planted on their own roots. This is actually very rare in the world of grape growing. Phylloxera, a root feeding louse, devastated European vineyards in the late 1860s and has since spread almost worldwide. It is an ever-present threat in most vineyards, and has forced vine growers to graft their vines onto phylloxera resistant American rootstocks. Pre-phylloxera vines arrived in Chile in 1853 - ten years before the outbreak. Carmenere only seems to be grown in Chile--South America's best kept secret. This wine has a real inviting ripe nose of plums and bramble fruit with earthy undertones and nuances of soy, bouquet garni, crushed green peppercorns and spice. Ripe, juicy flavors continue on the palate. Not as fleshy as Merlot but certainly mouth filling with refreshing acidity and supple open-knit tannins that add just enough structure to the fruit. If you are not a wine-snob and can get past the $26 Boulevard Grill cost/$12 street -- this selection stands on its own as a very tasty choice indeed. White - Voga Pinot Grigio - Also known as Pinot Gris. Don't be put off by the non-traditional bottle. Chill this wine down properly and give it a little time after opening to equalize and this $26 Boulevard Grill cost/$12 street white will be sure to amaze you. Typical of the variety...the gray-red grape that makes these wines is a mutation of Pinot, the mysterious mother grape to all 'Pinot' wines (e.g. Pinot Noir, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris etc). Pinot Gris is famous for its refreshing citrus flavor and zesty acidity. Voga doesn't fail to properly represent the variety. Next, the food:. For our party--out of convenience and as standard procedure--we selected the Tuscany buffet spread. The offerings, as put out by the Chef, were fantastic from "soup to nuts". The food at The Boulevard Grill appears simple, but the flavors have remarkable depth. Our selection for our affair was the Tuscany Style. None of the offerings failed to please. Soup, salad, and bread: * Wedding Soup * Caesar Salad with Croutons and Fresh Parmesan * Feta Cheese, Grape Tomatoes, Black Olives, Herbed Oil Salad * House Rolls 2 versions of Penne: * Pomodora Sauce with Fire Roasted Tomatoes, Roasted Garlic and Basil * Grilled Chicken with Sundried Tomatoes and Sage Cream Sauce Finally, the venue: It appeals to me--personally on so many levels. I am just a sucker for a well done "old school" Bar & Grill type atmosphere. This place provides that and then some. The Boulevard Grill is both clean and tidy--having ample space and plenty of customers--all the staff members greeted my family and companions with smiles as warm as Apple Pie. I would thoroughly recommend The Boulevard Grill to anyone with a desire for a top-notch experience from start to finish.
