For this weekend's edition of coffee shop Saturday, I chose Yellow Dog and I'm so glad I did. Yellow Dog is located in a really busy location. There are several other businesses that share the small parking lot, so parking is slim. It's super cute and cozy inside with a few tables. There's also a few tables outside. I was greeted right away by the awesome staff. My daughter and I both ordered iced coconut lattes, she has a 12oz, I had a 16oz, and I ordered a slice or coffee cake to go. After my first sip, I wished there was a 24 oz. That was the best iced latte ever!!! The coffee cake was so perfect, but made me wish I had a hot latte to accompany it...I'll have to go back!! I'm super made at myself for not buying any of their bread or any of their other locally or in house made goods, everything looked so fresh & delicious. read more

Stopped by Yellow Dog Bread Company to remote in from while on house tours in Raleigh. When you arrive there is plenty of parking outside the coffee shop. When you walk in the bakery/coffee shop feels open, cozy, unpretentious, and welcoming, I ordered a caramel latte which was good. The beans were on the lighter side. This can be a tricky coffee shop to work from as it's a bit on the smaller side. We got lucky and a table opened up outside, but just as a heads up most seating is outside. read more

Stopped in for coffee and breakfast pastries. Line was manageable for a Saturday Morning around 10am, only took about 10-15 minutes. Everything looks really good but we only tried two items. The raspberry scone was really good, however, the Pan au Chocolat was disappointing. It was not flaky and honestly tasted like a pre-packaged item from a grocery store. I was shocked. Coffee was also good and service was excellent (they asked multiple times about number of shots we wanted, exact water amount, etc...very thoughtful. I would love to go back and try some other items...guessing the pan au chocolate was a one-off or just not good that day for some reason. It said it was made fresh. Anyways, would recommend if you are in the area, and would have given them 5 stars if not for the disappointing pastry. read more

This time I got a loaf of honey wheat bread, a loaf of cinnamon raisin bread, and a chocolate croissant. The staff are always friendly welcoming. Had a craving for sourdough bread and this popped up on yelp. They offer to slice the bread, a nice feature. The bread was chewy, with a nice full sourdough taste. Next time I will try their Saturday only Pop tart special. Filled with two jams and a cream cheese filling. Have a small number of tables for patrons to sip coffees and enjoy pastries. read more

This place has been a staple in our house for years. The pecan sticky buns are OUT OF THIS WORLD! And we always enjoy the bread and pastries we pick up here. What sets yellow dog apart though is their customer service! It's always a welcoming atmosphere. They are kind and accommodating. We trust them with special orders like our Thanksgiving day desserts and the decorated cookies for our kids school parties and yes, pecan sticky buns are a must for Christmas morning. We can count on them to always have our order ready and get it right whether we've placed it in person or at the last minute over the phone. They have accommodated some special requests and always seem so happy to do it. That is not something we've experienced at other bakeries in town. This is a must frequent spot in Raleigh. Finally got ourselves to this lovely little bakery on the edge of historic Oakwood. We had heard they make a signature "Pop Tart" each Saturday so made our first visit on likely their busiest day and enjoyed a Peppermint S'More flavored treat. Literally everything we tried there was delicious, from rosemary scones to peppermint cream cheese iced chocolate cake. Their baguette was the freshest and best we've had locally. They were handing out samples of their Gingerbread cake and we ended up ordering several as holiday neighbor gifts that were a big hit. They also let us donate to the Raleigh Rescue Mission Christmas meals for which they bake and donate thousands of their signature yeast rolls. It is a delightful local bakery and we can't wait to go back. read more

I have to be bias but I won't say why. This bakery is like heaven on a platter. Shwae is the only sufficient word to describe the rosemary cheddar scone, but then again no words can do it justice. I'm not sure what kind of mad scientists are back there making these masterpieces of baked goods, but if you ask me, I think they are some of the world's best bakers. The employees are so hospitable and never quick to rush you as a customer, even if the line is out the door. And those baristas make a killer matcha and cappuccino. Really wonderful service and food. Parking is relatively good in front of the store, however, after 10 AM. Your best bet would be across the street . While the line moves quickly and sometimes a particular bread or scone is sold out. We have tried the croissants, the loaves, and the cookies and they are excellent. Came to the YDBC on a whim. We were in the plaza having lunch and happened to walk by this amazing smelling bakery. After watching a documentary on sourdough just the night before, my fiancé and I were adamant about getting a loaf of fresh sourdough at our next opportunity. It was all too convenient to walk in and grab the last fresh loaf of the day. Yellow Dog is a great little shop with indoor and outdoor seating and an awesome selection of freshly baked breads and goods. We also grabbed two cookies to try as well. The staff was very friendly and put everything together super quickly. Even sliced the bread for us. We ate the bread daily through the following week and it was still good. Great spot for baked goods & coffee drinks! We got the coconut earl gray scone, cheddar bay biscuits, and cinnamon roll. After paying, we were given our pastries right away and waited for our drinks (Mexican chocolate mocha & toasted almond latte) to be prepared. The baked goods were all tasty, although (and this is just a personal preference) I would have liked to have them warmed up, especially that big cinnamon roll. Having that gooey guy warm would have been other level. The coconut earl gray scone was probably my favorite since it was unique and flavorful. Coffee drinks were yummy and prepared well. I'd definitely come back to try other pastries, but perhaps not eat them there, instead taking them home to nuke them in the microwave to really get the best experience. read more

Staff were very friendly and helpful, though they definitely didn't have time to sit and chat. At times, the line was out the door! All baked items were labeled with the day they were made; you could order lots of sweets, a few savory items, and could also order dinner rolls (I saw lots of mobile orders waiting for pickup, probably since thanksgiving is coming up). We ordered a regular cinnamon roll, a pecan cinnamon roll, and an autumn spice latte. The cinnamon rolls were good, though I thought the pecan rolls were the slightest bit dry, as the glaze on top had really hardened and hadn't gone through the roll much. Don't order that one if you have tooth problems -- the top really was kind of hard. The coffee was great -- very hot, so don't take a sip until you've let it cool off! My favorite season at Yellow Dog is the fall for one primary reason: PUMPKIN MUFFINS. Dear goodness, without a doubt they're the best pumpkin flavor baked good I've ever had. Rather than being sweet it's all about fall spices, pumpkin seeds and more. I'd eat them every day if it wouldn't add to my backside. Just trust me on this. I have never bought actual bread, but should. At Thanksgiving I often get their sweet pumpkin bread loaf (noticing a pattern?) which is amazing! They make the cutest mini sugar cookies at Christmas and Easter, too, which are perfect gifts. I discovered a whole new part of Raleigh. I guess I have never driven past the Krispy Kreme on Person Street. I discovered this little gem while walking down the street. The staff was just so nice and the service was quick. Now the baked goods, Y'ALL. I took my friend a loaf of bread and she said that it was her whole lunch. I had a piece of Apple Cranberry pie. I am visiting from the West Coast and we have a plethora of great coffee shops/bakeries, so maybe I'm biased.. but if you're going for coffee and a cute stop, visit here!
