Recently stopped in for a bite to eat and some drinks before a concert at Rupp. The atmosphere is great. Cool old structure with a modern hipster feel. The cocktails were delicious yet a bit small and pricey. We ordered the beer cheese and pretzels which is listed as also including a mustard. The pretzel and cheese were delicious but listing the mustard was a bit deceptive because it was too small of a decorative smear to actual "dip" or taste. We also split a beer cheese burger and fries. Fries were delicious, burger was too pink and didn't have enough beer cheese to even recognize it was there. But overall, I'd give this place another shot on atmosphere alone. read more

I don't go to bars much anymore but when I do go, it's at Bourbon on Rye because it's the best bar staff currently in Lexington, the drinks selection is crazy good and the vibe is always fun. The team cares about what they do in this space; from owner on down they know their bourbon and know their drinks. There's been a lot of time working on their cocktails and barrel select program and it shows. If I'm having a night out and want to go somewhere, Bourbon on Rye is always the top of our list and we always leave knowing it's time well spent. Oh, and the food is always good. It's bar food, sure, but sliders, chicken and great fries. You're getting more than what you expect in a very cool location. I planned a last minute drink with a friend who recently moved back into town last Friday. She's in Lexington, I'm in Louisville and was traveling to Lexington for the evening, so what else was I to do but check Yelp? And what popped up? Bourbon On Rye. The spot looked neat, and I love bourbon, so I was in. We planned to meet at open (4p) and I was running a few minutes behind. When I sent a text to my friend she responded, "No problem, the bartender is educating me." I loved this response! My friend isn't extremely well-versed in bourbon, and a bartender working that evening, Taylor, had taken her under his wing. He ended up being amazing throughout our entire visit! So, big props to him and Bourbon on Rye for having him on staff. I ended up trying the Old Fashioned (made with Henry McKenna), the Paper Plane, and the New York Bourbon Sour. All of the cocktails were amazing. The Paper Plane was great, but my favorite was the Old Fashioned. I'm pretty simple when it comes to bourbon. I also had a chance to speak with another bartender, Chris. He was just as awesome as Taylor. They were both so inviting and really loved to talk about bourbon and Kentucky. (Two of my favorite things!) I will definitely be back to Bourbon On Rye! I want to check out some of the food, as well as some other cocktails, because the menu sounded awesome. The atmosphere is also great, the space has a very prohibition-style feel. And with the welcoming environment and super awesome bartenders you simply cannot go wrong with this spot! I really enjoyed this downtown bar. Good drinks, food, and service! Drinks: excellent! There is a good selection of bourbon, with prices ranging from around $8-$200 / pour. The house old fashioned was great. The bar tender, Chris, is very knowledgeable on bourbons, and mixed drinks. He had some good recommendations, and also had some really cool perfume like sprays of alcohol to mist some select mixed drinks. Food: I ordered beer cheese and pretzels, clams, and prime rib sliders. The pretzels were hot and super soft, not too salty. The beer cheese was a bit hard at first, but it spread easily after it warmed up. I was leery of clams in Kentucky, but these were mixed with bacon and spice, and delicious! The prime rib sliders were super tender, and tasty! These are all small bites. Great if you like to graze, but maybe not the best choice if you are looking to stuff yourself. Service: very good! Chris, the bar tender was pleasant and knowledgeable on the drinks. The other staff were attentive as well. There is no table service, so if you select a table, keep in mind you'll have to come to the bar to order. Price: a bit on the high side, but worth it for the drink selection, good food, and great service. Bartender brought our drinks to the table but insisted that if we wanted to order food we needed to come up to the bar to order (we were the only ones in the entire place). I got a Moscow mule with bourbon which was delicious, refreshing and super strong. The food was super delicious I didnt even get a pic. Way better than bar food. We got the meatballs, the loaded fries and the pretzel with beer cheese. All equally delicious. My wife and I went to this place just looking for a couple drinks and a little relaxation, what we got was MUCH MORE! "Justin Long" (you know who you are, lol), Taylor and Chris were some of the most knowledgeable bartenders we've ever encountered. The amazing attention, service and quality of the drinks have set a new bar for my expectations for any other place. All of these guys have an uncanny knowledge of all things bourbon and what is really good to drink. As these guys will tell you, focus your attentions away from the Pappy's, Eagle's and other things that most bourbon snobs want to glom onto and you will be rewarded with some amazing experiences in your own bourbon journey. Any bar that uses a classic like JTS Brown Bottled in Bond is ACES in my book. As a special treat to yourself, ask to try their new Knob Creek 15.5 yr 120 proof barrel pick, this KC is epic!! This place is friggin' awesome. It's very hard for me to write this review as I am giving it 5 stars and I hence it will attract more patrons to my new favorite place in downtown Lexington. My wife and I have been here twice now and had a great time both times. They make their own bitters and ginger beer which makes their cocktails amazing. We tried the cheese fries and the burger of the week (buffalo blue burger) which was one of best burger I had in a long time. I ordered the burger sliders which i think would have been delicious except they were carbonized on the outside while being medium on the inside. Unfortunately all i could taste was over cooked meat. Came to town for one night with my wife, and we walked around downtown. We happened into this bar and had an enchanting experience. From the soft dim lighting to the stylish design with a couple choice arcade games and an extensive, well curated bourbon selection, we enjoyed all of it. They even have some bonkers bottles of fine, rare, and exclusive bourbons. The food was superb. We had peri peri wings for an app and then sliders for dinner with sweet potato fries. It was so delicious and cooked to perfection. In addition to the bourbon selection available, the flights were outstanding and the prices per pour were surprisingly inexpensive. The service from the folks there was kind, fun, and engaging. My go to place for a great cocktail!!! Tumeric sour is may favorite. Yes, it sounds unusual and it is amazing! Must try. The Mai Thai is also goid, sweet towards the end with a bite. According to the bartender it has avocado oil and ghost pepper which give it a tiny bite at the end. It is not spicy, very pleasant. The cocktails are not only amazing but also affordable.
