This place is an absolute gem! I visited with my work colleague. Everything was great. The tomahawk ribeye was perfectly seasoned and cooked. The sides are big enough to share and the potato au gratin was tremendous. The bartenders, wait staff and bartenders were very friendly. The restaurant is relatively small, so plan ahead to get in. Finally was able to get to Bowdie's and as a long time patron of the Knight Cap, I can say the food at Bowdie's is the best. For those that have never been to this spot, it has always been as big as a postage stamp. I was not a fan of the remodel when the second iteration of the Knight Cap came along. There was something about the dark wood, leather booths that made the place seem bigger. Now, it just lacks that character it always had. Bowdie's has kept the same decor and just as a heads up to first timers, it can feel very crowded when you wait for your table. Personally, I would make sure to have a dedicated person handling seating and such. Just my 2 cents for busy nights. As to the food and drinks, the cocktails were well prepared. We passed on an appetizer but shared the wedge salad which was phenomenal. They integrate pork belly into it and it makes it. The main courses were amazing. The preparation of the filets was phenomenal. The 300 degree plate was fantastic and made eating the steak a joy. The loaded baked potatoes were also great. Overall, just a really enjoyable night. It's not cheap to eat here and they get that in the way they prepare the food...it is worth the money in my opinion. We will be back. read more

Best restaurant in Lansing! Seriously, don't bother with any other premium steak house in the area. Go here! Went here for our anniversary and had the tomahawk ribeye for two with green beans and the spinach as our 2 sides. Also ordered the duck ravioli for an appetizer and had a complimentary brownie (anniversary) for dessert. Everything was supreme. We ordered the steak medium-rare and that's how it came out. Perfectly cooked and flavorful- didn't even need au jus or steak sauce. Let the flavor speak for itself and polish off that delicious bone! The sides fit perfectly with the top shelf steak and the dessert was the perfect ending to the meal. I typically don't order desserts at restaurants, but I would definitely do so here! Is six stars an option? OMG the salmon which is really the only meat exception was the best I've ever had at a business restaurant. Clearly this place is for the steak lover but they know what they are doing with great sides. The wedge salad had candied pork belly which I've never had before! Try the deconstructed crab cakes for an appetizer and the beignets were massive and a perfect way to end the evening with three house-made sauces. Absolutely decadent!!!! We had our first dining experience at Bowdies Oct 12 2019. And they did not disappoint! We knew to make reservations a week in advance, so did that for our party of 4 ( celebrating a birthday). We arrived and were ushered right in to our quaint little table in this cozy warm little restaurant. I emphasize this because this is a small establishment and you will want to keep your group small and always consider a reservation. Smiling staff all around greeted us. Our server Ellie came right away and recited to us the history of Bowdies and what we could expect...we appreciated and enjoyed this. Ellie was top notch and lovely throughout the evening, without fail. We enjoyed drinks, prickly pear margherita, 18 yrs old scotch, cabernet. Onto apps, shrimp cocktail, crab cake (deconstructed), grill caesar. Entrees- 10 oz beef filet, ribeye, lobster, sides of brussel sprouts with pork belly, potato augratin. Desert, pumpkin pie, chocolate cake and a surprise brownie cake for the birthday boy the didn't forget! A stellar, on point meal. Plain and simple. And we know a good steak house meal. See my photos...Service and management and kitchen clearly have their act together. Now, 1 suggestion...tweak the interior, a little better,richer, more lush dining room to meet the beautiful quality of your food and service. There, I said it. Next, I know there's been a few comments about the prices here...tis true. But these are the prices you pay for this caliber of food and service people. You'll find it in Chicago, Las Vegas, LA, NYC...you get what you pay for. But yes this is downtown Lansing. Went to Bowdies for my brother-in-laws/my birthday and the experience was amazing! The servers are educated well on the menu, they're friendly but professional, and they kept up on everyone's drinks! (Fun bonus) Now the food, don't even get me started on how amazing the King Snowcrab legs were! We finished the whole plate in the blink of an eye! Then we got one of the most delicious steaks I've ever had! It was cooked to perfection and not too rich in flavor! We have been here several times. The menu is select a steak and then sides to share. We always have food to bring home. The brussel sprouts and au gratin potatoes are two of our favorite sides. You can also get blue cheese crumbles on your steak and it is amazing. The drink menu has lots of variety and the drinks are solid. The wait staff is fantastic. 1st customer of the night and the place was COLD... never took my coat off - shameful cause I dressed up! Lots of chatter from servers having personal conversations - didn't need to know about a servers acid reflux issues, especially at a place that is in the same price point as Morton's or Ruth Chris. Night and day comparison in terms of up scale dining experiences. Asked for salt and pepper and was a bit surprised that the dispensers were the kind you would find at a diner. An employee came and sat at the bar to do what I presume was the liquor count in his sweat pants! Food was delicious and the decor was on point... but if we are spending $175 on dinner for two, I'd rather go to a place with professionally trained staff and get the fine dining experience with the meal. read more

We come here 5 times a year sometimes more and tonight for the first time ever we had the worst food. Rachel was amazing don't get me wrong, shes no kevin (wink face) but she is for sure second best but the food quality was garbage. Two of us ordered mid rare, came out blue in my opinion and honey I like my stuff bleeding but not cold.. got them redone came out well with a hint of juice. On a work trip and stopped here for a much needed dinner. Very glad I did. The place is small, so I can see it filling up quickly. I sat on one of the many booths and could hear most conversations around me, 1 particular table was being very loud and obnoxious, but they seemed to know the owner so no one said anything. Ordered one of the steaks on the menu and Brussels sprouts 1/2 portion as a side dish. Steaks do not come with a side, The sides are meant for 2 ppl but you can get most for just 1 person. (Not the Mac and cheese and 1 other). The steak was cooked to perfection and the Brussels sprouts were great as well. 5/5 for both dishes. The prices are pretty hefty ($40+ for steak), but given the options around I guess they can do that. Place looks very cute for a date or intimate dinner. No complaints, would come again. read more

Shrimp cocktail was just what you'd expect, but wow the goat cheese was great. Just the right amount of sweet and savory. We then ordered our steaks with a side of truffle fries and seared broccoli. I had the filet mignon (so did the clients) and my boss had the cowboy ribeye. WOW. The steak was immaculately cooked and was just enough to compliment the side dishes- with some to take home. Amazing! We arrived for our 8:45 pm reservation and were promptly greeted. The restaurant was smaller than I anticipated, but had a classic, cozy feel as opposed to cramped. We started with the goat cheese appetizer. The goat cheese, almond and honey mixture was delightful. We both ordered the filet and shared au gratin potatoes. The filet was incredible! Cooler to perfection just as we ordered. The potatoes were smooth and creamy. The portions are generous...so generous that I was unable to finish my filet (which is a sin). I was especially impressed with the staff. They were all wearing masks, which makes me feel safer when dining out. The staff worked together to serve all of the tables.
