Tried bowers hotel after a long hiatus- I am so glad I did. New owners made a lot of improvements to menu and food. I so enjoyed my burger and my husband loved his roast beef sandwich. Nice older place. Tables on porch for outside dining. We sat at a hi top table in bar. Service was okay. BF got house salad. He liked it. We got their chicken chili nachos. Weirdest nachos ever. I don't know how they could call them chicken chili. It was chunks of chicken and a kidney bean here and there. The cheese on top wasn't even melted but the bottom was all wet and soggy. Way too much lettuce. Maybe the dinners here are better but, bar food was not. read more

This place sucks the bartender was rude had the worst service in my life, asked about the wines and he said we only have Woodbridge and Woodbridge which was condescending and rude. then my friend asks about a Malbec that was on the shelf. Stopped for lunch and saw pulled pork sliders on the appetizer menu so My wife ordered them and a side order of fries, I ordered a Chicken cheese steak and hand cut fries. When the food came out it was enough to feed 4 people the sliders were the size of regular hamburger buns. the food was hot and very well made and the flavor was outstanding and our waitress Jenny was the best. We recommend this place highly if your in the area check it out I think you will not be sorry you stopped in. read more

My husband and I decided to have a date night here. I was not impressed. The setting and staff were nice, but the food was really lacking. We ordered the prime rib and ribeye, because how can you go wrong with steaks...apparently you can. It all lacked flavor and the prime rib came out with what seemed to be jarred gravy on top. Everything was really flavorless and the 4 courses felt rushed! All in about 45 minutes! Definitely not a place to go for a date night or if you are seeking a flavorful dining experience. We've been to this restaurant a few times. It's a fairly classy place with lots of choices. I was very pleased with my shepherd's pie. The time before that, I had ordered the soup of the day, and they told me that they had run out. That is the only complaint I have. Always enjoy the clam bakes and steak night. Usually pleased wirh our visits there, however... Our most recent visit was not a stellar experience. First, we went for the AYCE pot pie, only to be told that 4 previous patrons had cleaned them out. 4? I think you would plan on a few more than that on an AYCE night. So, we ordered from the menu. Nothing wrong with what we ordered but there were fruit flies buzzing around us the entire time we were there. Told our server about it, I HATE flies, and she said she would notify the manager. Not a word from anyone after that! No apology, no go to hell, nothing. Waitress gave us our check at the end and I paid our bill, plus 20% for a tip. Not her fault i was being dive bombed entire meal. Was then told they made a mistake on my check and they needed my card to charge me more! I think they may have noticed the smoke coming from my ears cause almost immediately they said "nevermind". It'll be a little while till we go back. Won't write them off yet, but things better improve. Upon leaving, passed one of the kitchen staff sitting outside smoking. No biggie, but the kitchen door was standing wide open! Bowers Hotel has the best food in the area. We visited it for Father's Day Brunch and the brisket was to die to for. On occasion,we also get the Shepherd's Pie, which I would highly recommend. If you haven't eaten here yet, you truly are missing out! read more

The Bowers Hotel...what a cute place. I am really happy to be able provide a review. The building is old and the parking area behind is near a railroad track. I loved that! The atmosphere, so cute with interesting history. The saloon is a bit small but nice. The bar had approximately 12 seats but they also have four or five high tops in the room. We sat at one of the high tops because the bar was full when we got there. They have a few tv's throughout the bar. The ladies bathroom could use to be updated but it certainly is horrible. The dining room area seemed a little underwhelming. That said there were a lot of people dining so people must like it. My husband and I prefer cozy pub areas. Our bartender greeted us immediately. Even though his bar was full he came right over, said hello, cleaned our table, set the table, and brought our drinks. That was a great start. He was very attentive. If you've read any of my other reviews, you will notice the theme...great service is so super important to me. This place did not disappoint. We ordered Jim Beam and Diets doubles, they were definitely stiff pours which was perfect. My husband ordered the Prime Rib Haus (beef sandwich) with hand cut fries. He cleaned his plate. That said, he said that could've given him more au jus. No problem there, he could've asked for more if he needed it. He also mentioned that he felt the beef had a bit of a frozen taste. The reason he thought that is because they only make prime rib Friday and Saturday. He didn't think he got the fresh prime rib, perhaps it was last weekend's frozen leftover. He would order something different next time. I ordered the Filet Mignon burger. I really enjoyed my burger. The caramelized onions and mushrooms were yummy. The burger was cooked perfectly. The hand cut fries were very good. My only issue was they were called peppercorn Parmesan fries. I assumed they would have peppercorn Parmesan sprinkled on them. They actually had a peppercorn Parmesan dressing drizzled over them. I would get regular fries next time. So...overall we had a very nice experience. We will definitely be back. First time here on a Sat. night to see the James Supra Blues Band, which was totally awesome!! The restaurant itself is in a large, old farmhouse with multiple rooms to dine in. We were in a large high-ceiling room to see the band. Decor is old. Very casual setting. All walks of life visited the bar area including motorcycle riders, and people who just stepped off the tractor. Everyone had fun. We had the (recommended) prime rib and the (don't quote me on this flavor name) cajun blue cheese? wings. Everything was delicious. Wings were crisp on the outside with great flavor, not spicy. A man we were with highly recommended the fries and they did look tasty as he gobbled them up. The prime rib was flavorful and tender, cooked perfectly medium rare. Ladies with us had a salad they enjoyed that looked very fresh. For a super busy, noisy, crowded Saturday night, i would say the food and service was decent. I would come back to hear a band again. Repeat customer of the Bower's Hotel. Most recent visit was disappointing. Menu changes, wait staff, and loud music unsatisfactory. Our group of 8 was seated in the dining room off the bar. Only one other table had customers seated in this section. We were not informed of the loud music that would interrupt our conversations during the evening. Our reservations were for 6:30 not the typical later time when music often starts. No expectations that our fun evening out with friends would be interrupted by loud music this early in the evening. When booking musicians take into consideration their musical instruments and the small spaces of the restaurant. Most likely not to return. read more

I have been to the Bowers Hotel twice since they reopened. I have been disappointed both times. The first time i tried the steak sandwich. The bread was very tough on the outer edges and the fries were limp and soggy. I went back again and tried the patty melt. The fries were cold - very cold. (these types of fries are not good when cold - they get greasy). The patty melt was fair - although the hamburger patty was about an inch smaller all around than the bread. I have had better. The beer was not cold but not warm either. I don't know if I will go back again. read more

Seriously - fantastic food at very fair prices. My wife and I had the chicken cordon bleu and the crabcakes - both outstanding. The manager who was on duty was also great - a couple large tables were sat at the same time as us and she made sure we were taken care of quickly so that our meals did not get held up (much appreciated as we were dining with our two kids as we passed through town on our way to the Poconos). The historic building that houses the restaurant is also quite impressive. Being picky - I withheld a 5th star because the dining rooms do lack a bit in the décor/ambience aspect, though they certainly have potential to improve. I did step into the barroom to check it out and that is very well done with a beautiful old barback and bar as well as a fireplace and piano. If it was just my wife and I having diner we'd definitely eat at one of the hightops in the bar area or at the bar itself. Overall, a really great restaurant - we'll be sure to add it to our rotation on weekends we pass through the area travelling to the Poconos. read more

We weren't really impressed with the food. The table was pretty shaky and the menus are clearly old. The rolls we were given were nearly rock hard, and when we asked for new ones they were still really dry/stale even with butter. The steaks are alright for the price, but my mother ordered fries with her steak and even though the steak itself was not bloody, the plate was and the fries were sitting in it. She wasn't interested in new fries because she could salvage some but was brought some anyway despite my mother asking her not to. My family and I were having a somewhat personal and sad conversation and realized we didn't want to be in public and tried to quickly pay the bill and leave. However, after bringing the paid bill back, the server asked us (for the fourth time) about our food and we were not enthusiastic in response but told her we weren't interested in taking anything up with the manager. She then proceeded to try to push us into telling her about the meal so she could do something about it, to which we continually refused, and kept telling us about how she could have gotten the manager for us and how it wasn't her fault that the meal was bad, to which we responded we knew but we just wanted to leave. By now her voice was raised enough that the two other tables in the place are staring. We finally convince her to leave us alone, and I turn to another table to apologize for the argument only for them to say that we were probably Democrats and we were rude (even though he had only heard the tail end of the conversation). This devolved into this man and my mother bickering, with the server coming back, hearing part of the argument, and deciding that it was a personal attack on her and shouting at my mother. The manager only noticed at the end of the conversation and was not brought in by my server or the other server in the room. I can't blame the establishment for these other customers, but it seems to me (as someone who has been working in the service industry for the past year) that the server is undertrained and should not have tried to engage us like that when we were unhappy and just trying to leave, especially since we had not tried to dispute the meal or send the food back. My family is very local and has come here for years but will no longer be dining at this restaurant because this experience was pretty horrifying. read more

Love this place. We've eaten there a few times over the years, most recently for the Sunday Brunch. While they didn't have the omelets or eggs benedict the day we were there, what they did have out was great and plentiful and more than enough. I recommend the French Toast! The staff are very friendly and the ambience of the quaint old hotel by the RR tracks, with a log cabin across the street is wonderful. We're going back soon for the all you can eat Chicken Pot Pie on a Tuesday night. read more

My girlfriend and I live in the area and The Bowers Hotel is a place we visit frequently. The food, for the most part is always pretty good. We have had some bad experiences while dining here before but they have mostly been corrected. The charm of the old building is a plus as well as watching the horse and buggies go by on occasion (we are formerly from the city). We were last here about 2 to 3 weeks ago on a Saturday for lunch. I had ordered a cajun po boy and my girlfriend had ordered the chicken curry. The po boy was awesome and filled with flavor. I'm a big fan of the spicy ranch sauce. My girlfriend was not thrilled with the curry. She said it tasted bland and was not sweet enough for her. We did not complain since it may have just been her taste and we generally never complain. Our server, Ashley who we have had numerous times before had noticed that she did not really touch her food and offered a piece of cake or another menu item to fill her up and we had a piece of the chocolate cake which was mind blowing. All in all the service at this establishment is great, everyone greets you with a smile and they always make you feel at home. As long as the food continues to grow and match the service this place will continue to be our favorite afternoon lunch spot. read more
