This is my second review. This time I'm reviewing the Veneziano plaster product from Vasari Lime…read morePlaster & Paint. Project: 8'x8' living room accent wall in navy blue Veneziano plaster by Vasari Plaster using a 7"x4"x2"ish trapezoid trowel with a polished stainless steel blade. Absolutely Love My Vasari Veneziano Plaster Wall -- Even With My DIY Mistakes! I tackled an 8'x8' living room accent wall using Vasari's Veneziano plaster in navy blue with a 7"x4" trapezoid trowel. Let me start by saying: the final color isn't exactly the navy blue I envisioned--but I'm completely in love with it. I ended up with a rich indigo tone that shifts beautifully between navy and deep blue. Honestly, it turned out even better than what I hoped for. What amazes me most is how forgiving this product is. As a first-time DIY'er using Venetiano plaster, I made several mistakes along the way, but the Vasari product still delivered a stunning result. Here are a few things I did "wrong," and yet the wall still looks incredible: * I primed the wall with a high-quality water-based primer, not realizing it was a stain-blocking primer (a big no-no, as I learned later from Vasari's tutorials). I debated re-priming but decided to keep going--and it worked out fine. * My first coat was thicker than recommended. It's supposed to go on like smooth sour cream, but mine took extra strokes to spread. Between learning the "feel" of the trowel and working over a non-ideal primer, the surface wasn't as spreadable as it should've been. * Despite all that, I started seeing the artistic variation and texture I wanted right from the first coat. I loved the soft burnished sheen that appeared in spots, it gave the wall character and depth. After three coats, I stopped. The color is rich, textured, and full of subtle movement. It doesn't have that perfectly blended, ultra-smooth look from the demo videos, but that's not what I wanted. It's organic, a little imperfect, and absolutely beautiful. Lessons learned for next time: A. Buy the primer and tools directly from Vasari. B. Go lighter and smoother on the first coat to minimize unwanted shine and get better color absorption for later coats. In short, this product is bulletproof--it can handle beginner errors and still produce a high-end, artistic finish. I couldn't be happier with my wall or the journey getting there!

I had made a series of paint color mistakes when painting my new apartment. I am so lucky I went to this Farrow & Ball store to buy the paint to correct my initial mistake. I talked about my project with Martin and he took something that had suddenly become overwhelming and frustrating and made it fun again. We buy so many things on the internet these days I think we've forgotten what good service is, not to mention product available on the spot. Martin isn't just good, he's incredible at what he does. He took so much time to help me understand what it was that was not quite right and then was incredibly patient and helpful and thoughtful in helping me pick my new colors. He was always available to chat when I had doubts and followed up after to check- in (who does this anymore !?). I'm not exaggerating when I say I see color differently now (all its component parts!). I absolutely love the way my apartment now. When I brought it back and explained what happened, the manager, Yvette, plugged it in, ran it for a few seconds with nothing attached, told me it was "fine" and treated me like I was making it up. A drill motor running with no load won't catch an issue that only appears under load, and a brand new drill that smokes is a serious fire hazard. It was completely negligent of Yvette to tell me to continue using the drill and not accept it as a defective return. This creates both a liability issue for the store and a safety issue for me. I raised these concerns and she was dismissive the whole time. I ended up leaving, calling Ace's customer service line and getting them on a three-way call with the store. The phone rep was great and easy to deal with. Yvette only agreed to take the drill back because I'd ordered it online through Ace for pickup, which meant the rep could force the return. Otherwise I doubt she'd have budged. She gave the rep attitude too. After she hung up, the rep apologized to me for how rude Yvette had been. I went back to the store and the return went through, but even when completing the return, the cashier was openly cold. I asked how her day was going, and she just said "fine," flat and unfriendly, without looking at me. Because of this experience, this location has lost my business. I won't buy from a hardware store that doesn't seem to take seriously the safety of the tools it sells or how it treats customers who flag a problem. I've still got the invoice, the return receipt, and Ace customer support case number if the owner wants to look into it.
