solid hardware store in the StuyTown area. my local hardware spot didn't have what i needed so i headed to this Ace Hardware. a staffer helped me get to the stuff i needed. the store is crammed with items. it's pretty clean and organized. prices feel high here but it's NYC so what are you going to do. this store won't turn you into a Mr. Fixit but it will serve your normal New York City dweller needs.

    Discolored walls

I have tried to color match paint here twice. Both times, the paint has turned out to be an entirely incorrect shade. I brought the paint back to the store with both of the receipts as well as photos of my discolored walls, hoping that the team at Brickman's might be able to fix the problem (especially since I had already spent $60 on the two quarts of paint that I can't use). When I explained the situation to the individual at the front desk, she responded in a very accusatory way with "what do you want me to do about it? It's the exact same color." She then opened the can of paint and painted over the only paint sample that I have, and ruined it. It was an incredibly uncomfortable and disappointing interaction to say the very least. The colors don't match (even after the paint has dried), and the evidence is in the attached images. The paint that they gave me is darker with cooler undertones, and my walls are lighter and have warmer undertones. I received excellent assistance from the young man who helped me mix the paint. It seems that his management could learn a thing or two from him about providing quality customer service. I definitely won't be returning here any time soon.

You better hope they pick a color better than yours. No refunds. Even if the color sample has the employee's handwriting on it

I've actually spent thousands of dollars (through several local moves) at this store previously, but will never be returning as I've learned that their oversight and return policy (especially regarding paint, of which I buy a ton) is borderline fraudulent. I went in with a paint swatch yesterday and asked if they could make the color. The woman making the paint told me she had access to it in her system. As they were making the paint, I paid for it, brought it home and realized it was a COMPLETELY different color than that which she told me she was making. Upon returning to the store with: - the swatch that I brought in that the employee herself had wrote a color code onto - a picture of the swatch next to the purchased paint showing that they are a completely different color, - and the receipt of only a day ago, They refused to allow me to exchange the paint that they had incorrectly mixed. It's not even like it was a little correct-- it was a LOT incorrect. Like so incorrect that if they tried to defend this in civil court, the judge would have laughed. Luckily my credit card gave me back the value of the paint, so I'll skip the civil court (though a part of me really wanted to). Still, for convenience of actually being able to return something that is defective or not being held responsible for the employee errors, I'm not going to be shopping at this store ever again. (paint sample and received paint displayed in uploaded image).

Well I just found my neighborhood go to store! Is it me, or does this store seem to have literally everything! I went in there for paint and ended up getting great toys for my kids, fuzzy socks for my wife, and some extra piece of mind for me! This is truly a one stop shop. I was greeted by such a friendly guy, I think his name was Roberto. From his help to the cashier who also could not have been any friendlier I see no need to shop elsewhere!! I give this store 5 stars, and will most definitely be back for more! Thank you for always having everything I need and for being so helpful to this lost Dad!!!

Project: 8'x8' living room accent wall in navy blue Veneziano plaster by Vasari Plaster using a 7"x4"x2"ish trapezoid trowel with a polished stainless steel blade. Absolutely Love My Vasari Veneziano Plaster Wall -- Even With My DIY Mistakes! I tackled an 8'x8' living room accent wall using Vasari's Veneziano plaster in navy blue with a 7"x4" trapezoid trowel. Let me start by saying: the final color isn't exactly the navy blue I envisioned--but I'm completely in love with it. I ended up with a rich indigo tone that shifts beautifully between navy and deep blue. Honestly, it turned out even better than what I hoped for. What amazes me most is how forgiving this product is. As a first-time DIY'er using Venetiano plaster, I made several mistakes along the way, but the Vasari product still delivered a stunning result. Here are a few things I did "wrong," and yet the wall still looks incredible: * I primed the wall with a high-quality water-based primer, not realizing it was a stain-blocking primer (a big no-no, as I learned later from Vasari's tutorials). I debated re-priming but decided to keep going--and it worked out fine. * My first coat was thicker than recommended. It's supposed to go on like smooth sour cream, but mine took extra strokes to spread. Between learning the "feel" of the trowel and working over a non-ideal primer, the surface wasn't as spreadable as it should've been. * Despite all that, I started seeing the artistic variation and texture I wanted right from the first coat. I loved the soft burnished sheen that appeared in spots, it gave the wall character and depth. After three coats, I stopped. The color is rich, textured, and full of subtle movement. It doesn't have that perfectly blended, ultra-smooth look from the demo videos, but that's not what I wanted. It's organic, a little imperfect, and absolutely beautiful. Lessons learned for next time: A. Buy the primer and tools directly from Vasari. B. Go lighter and smoother on the first coat to minimize unwanted shine and get better color absorption for later coats. In short, this product is bulletproof--it can handle beginner errors and still produce a high-end, artistic finish. I couldn't be happier with my wall or the journey getting there!
