I visited this tailor for the first time last year with a challenging suit jacket to correct some problems which he did, so I decided to work with him. he said I was very picky which I am also I'm very knowledgeable about tailoring and have worked in the clothing business at a very high level. I can tell you the craft of a custom master tailor is very hard to find; it is a dying art, and fewer and fewer great Tailors are still around. Mr. Jung is one of them who is still here and his work is exceptional. when he told me he is the only one who can fix my expensive suits, sport jackets and trousers, I said prove it and so far he has, I ask for a lot of bespoke touches to my jackets such as pitch stitching's, recurve the skirt of jackets, changing to MOP buttons, custom cuffs to my trousers, completely letting out the trousers on both sides of the leg, making a crotch insert allowing room inside, paying attention to the drape and shoulders of my jackets, This is not work for a amateur that type of skill is only in the hands of a True master tailor. He has shown that he is indeed my tailor and has accommodated my pickiness and respects that I know tailoring. he has so far done 6 suits and 2 sport jackets and has done them very well. He has never been rude to me nor my wife (she had some trousers and dresses fixed) He is also a jokester but once you talk to him you find that out. he can get my business because he earned it with his quality of work and craftsmanship. If you really wear high quality clothing and want the best tailoring done to them for excellent fit, go and see him and talk about what you want done to your clothing and understand you should pay for premium work. If I could give this establishment zero stars I would. The owner, the older man with the glasses is absolutely rude. I've been in there twice thinking maybe he's just having bad day and same disposition every time. He almost yells at you when you walk in "wat you need" no greeting of any kind whatsoever. Went with my spouse to have a pair of dress pants hemmed this week and had an unfortunately unpleasant experience. During the fitting process, my spouse asked me what I thought about the length of the hem the tailor had measured out. The tailor immediately jumped in and said that he should not be speaking to me, only to him, and that he knows the way to do the work. I was surprised, but still gave my opinion and said that it looked a little short and that we should see it at a slightly longer length, just to compare. The tailor repeatedly told my spouse to ignore me, not speak to me, only to him. He eventually agreed to adjust the length. I asked my spouse to sit down to make sure the fit was still good, and the tailor jumped in again and told him not to and to ignore me. We ended up moving forward with the slightly shorter length, which was fine, but it was an uncomfortable and awkward situation. Frankly, the tailor was incredibly disrespectful. He has no right to tell someone to blow off or ignore the person they came with to a fitting, especially when the other person is the spouse. In addition, he refused to make eye contact with me or acknowledge me during the entire visit, even though my spouse could barely understand what he was saying and I was the one clarifying for him. I understand that tailors have experience and there is a traditional way to tailor each piece, but ultimately, the customer should be happy with the way the clothing looks and fits. If the tailor doesn't feel comfortable doing what the customer wants, they have a right to refuse the job and the customer can go somewhere else. I personally will not be returning to this location. He is very pushy and seems to only want to fit the clothing the way he deems it should fit. In addition, the tailor is clearly misogynistic, lacks any sort of customer service skills, and has no manners. If zero stars was an option, that's what he would receive. read more

Excellent customer service! I called asking if they offered curtain hem services. He was very polite over the phone and said yes, I can bring them in right away. I brought them in on a Tuesday. He treated me politely and ensured he understood the 76in length I desired. He said i could pick them up on Monday. I showed up early on Saturday morning, and they were ready for pickup 2 days early! It looks like it is under new ownership. They are pretty kind and did good job. The price was fair compare to other local tailor shops around the area(not those cheap cleaners). They are knowledgeable about the materials and fitting. I was worried because my suit was expensive, and I felt like they measure it little bit loose, but I recognized I was wrong after I put them on.. This place is horrible. We went in to get help with measuring my son. The owner was very rude only measured his chest saying that was his size for everything. Then he went off doing something else. I went in to have some pants repaired the man could barely pronounce the words he was trying to say but I didn't mind that so much seeing English is obviously not his first language, so I told him what I wanted to do with the pants and after a struggle to understand one another he than quoted me a price of $38 and I say fine he than ask does the hips fit and I say yes and he ask me four more times in which every time I said yes. Next thing I know he is coming around the counter and I'm unsure of what he is about to do or go do or maybe even go get something, so I continue to stand at the counter facing where he just walked away from, suddenly I feel his whole arm grabbing around my waist with his measuring tape. No warning or signaling to me to maybe even i don't know......maybe BACK AWAY FROM THE COUNTER SO HE CAN APPROPRIATELY MEASURE ME. And he comes back to the pants and mumbles something and just starts saying no no no and shaking his head and just starts to walk off, like about to leave to the back. I than ask umm are you saying no I can't do it? And he never turns around once and mumbles again I ask one more time and he saids no. I am left in complete uncomfortable disbelief at how I was just handled and the whole interaction. I'm new to Bowie and needed a new seamstress/tailor. Needed measurements for a custom dress I'm ordering from eshatki. Figured getting measurements taken would be a good test before sending more work. It was hard to understand what the tailor was saying and he didn't seem to understand the difference between the waist and under bust measurements that eshatki required. Also they weren't really courteous. If necessary I'll take my work back to the store that I used to use. read more

This was by far the WORST tailor experience I've ever had. I've been in the fashion business for the past 17 years, which at the very least makes me an educated consumer. My brother prompted me to visit the shop to order his (rental) groomsmen tuxedos, but when I arrived in the dingy, worn down store, I was provided service from a grumpy Asian man who did not have an organized system for Wedding parties - could not find the name of the registry, did not know how the factory orders worked, etc. Long story short, the customer service was non existent, they did not operate as a certified bridal or groom rental company, did not take appropriate measurements and overall they did not provide a NICE experience for customers who were looking forward to one of the biggest moments in their lives. I just cant take it anymore. Bowie Tailors is downright horrible. I'd give anything to find a decent tailor in this area with better service. I went to have the sleeves lengthened on a blazer, and he changed the neck and waist of the jacket for 100 dollars. I went back and told him the sleeves were never changed and charged me another $20 dollars per sleeve just to let them out an inch. And I will barely have it in enough time for my event. It's taken a week for a slight alteration. The back flaps for the jacket dont look right either and he wont fix those either. This is downright abusive. I wont ever patronize this business again. No matter how polite you are to him, he just cant find it anywhere to return the customer service back to you. read more

I have used this tailor for more than 5 years. I agree with the other posters that the staff is not very warm and the prices seem high relative to other shops I have used. Occasionally, I have persuaded them to reduce a price, but usually not by much. However, I find the work itself to be excellent, so I will take clothing there when it needs more than just a hem and I want to make sure it is altered correctly. The other shop I often use, which is just as good, but is in DC is Melvin's Custom Tailoring at 1317 F St NW Washington, DC 20004; (202) 737-2100. Don't waste your money or time and save yourself from the headache. Not only was the quality of the alteration horrible the cost was ridiculous. The man is rude, he never said hello when we walked in and begun to yell at me when I nicely expressed that I was not pleased with the alterations performed to my daughter's prom dress. His wife than jumped in and began yelling as well. Let's just say all hell broke loose. This was all happening while a young man came in to pick up a few blazers that he was having altered. He was not pleased with his alterations either and when he expressed that they told him there was nothing wrong with it and basically just ignored his complaints. The young man asked me what I thought and I told him I agreed with him and the alterations did not look good. The young man was not confrontational so he just left unhappy and said I will just have to take my blazers somewhere else to get fixed. Why should we have to pay another tailor to fix alterations that we overpaid for in the first place? The moral of this story is to go somewhere else. I went here to have my prom dress altered. The staff is not very charming, but I would say they did good work for a reasonable price. My gown was two layer silk chiffon and the cost to hem it was $45. I can't say much about any waiting period because I went in a good month or two in advance. It is a bit awkward to try to understand what they are commanding you to do, often in broken English. I wouldn't recommend them, but I wouldn't say they are the worst out there. As a personal shopper and stylist I tailor my clothes very frequently. I went in to have my pants tailored as I wanted these pants tailored by a tailor. I went into the Bowie tailor to have my pants hemmed and tapered a little. When he first put the pins into the pants I could not even take them off the pins were so close to my calf. I told him its to tight and he removed the pins and repositioned them loosening the fit. Upon my return to pick up my pants the calf portion of my pants were so tight I could not even get the pants up over them to my waist. When I notified the lady of this she said "I was suppose to pick them up two days before" like this would have made the fit better. I told them that I needed the pants to be let out so that I can be able to wear them. after 10 min of arguing with me he said he would fix my pants. I returned to pick my pants up in a couple of days and they yet again were tight. I then became frustrated and let him know that the pants were not let out enough and I am still not satisfied with the work. He needed to let them out more. He says he will not and I ask for a refund. He stated that he let them out from 6 1/4 to 6 1/2. Then told me that people have 5 1/2 its good. I then said I am not some people I paid for my pants to be tailored to fit me. He walked away and refused to provide me a refund. I then recorded the conversation and as another customer walks in the lady shhh's me. It took everything in me not to lose my cool. I then ask for the information of the store so that I can take them to court. He refused to give it to me and I called the police to have a record of the encounter. This place was the worse tailor that I have ever been. The fact that he messed up an expensive pair of pants and I never asked for the money for the pants only the tailoring, and he still refused to provide a refund shows that he does not care about the customer or guarantee his work like the sign says. If you are reading this I am letting you know now that this is not a place you want to spend your money. The customer service is horrible, the quality of work is horrible, and they do not even stick to their own policies. Use at your own risk. read more

So your experience depends on what your tolerance is and how you interact with them. Not ideal admittedly but quality of the work is extremely high. The cons are: 1) Their English is very, very poor so if you want something unusual done prepare to be frustrated a bit and patient or prepare to bring someone with you who speaks Korean. 2)They can be rude/grumpy but I think its a mixture of being intolerant of being treated even slightly disrespectfully or dismissively combined with not being warm in general. Take that as you will but I've been treated fine. I've seen others be dismissive, slightly condescending or demanding and that's when the rude comes out full force and swiftly. 3. They are higher than their closest competitors by up to 20% or so. Less than in Montgomery County. Pros: They do far better work than anybody else within a 10 mile radius and they do it relatively quickly. I work in a corporate environment and its important that the clothes I wear suggest a certain level of luxury. Barring wanting to pay $300 for a pair of pants or a $400 for a dress, the trick is to have non luxury items tailored perfectly. This place fits the bill for that and therefore saves me money in the overall picture. read more

Mens' Clothing. I find the alterations very well done. The prices are reasonable. The work is neat and timely. I have had cuffs and sleeves on suits adjusted. Waits taken in and let out. Had reweaving on suits (on two different suits) and the work was invisible -- using the fabric I saved from the original cuff alterations. The prices for my work were comparable with prices at men's clothing stores when the suits were first altered.. Their English is not great, which may explain the perception they are rude. I completely agree with Kevin's review. I had spaghetti straps on a dress shortened - literally 10 stitches worth of work, and they charged me $30. The guys who run this place are downright rude. Horrible service!!!!! Went to get a quote on having a bridesmaids dress altered due to being pregnant. When I told the older gentleman that I needed the dress let out due to being pregnant he kept yelling "take it in take it in." As I told him "no let it out" he got up, snatched the dress from my hands, tossed it on the counter to get a better look at the stitching and then said try it on. He didn't hand the dress back to me either. He left it on the counter and walked away. He then proceeded to saying something in his language and the other man with him looked at me and laughed. This establishment doesn't even deserve one star maybe more like -100. I went in to have a zipper replaced. There was no greeting. When I walked in there was an older Asian man sitting in the back. He came up front and I told him I needed a zipper replaced. He checked the zipper and told me the zipper works fine doesn't need to be replaced. I told him that's not what I asked. I wanted to replace the zipper because the one on there now sticks at the worst possible moments. He said he couldn't replace it. My response is this is a tailor shop but you can't replace a zipper? He told me to take it home and do it myself and walked back where he came from. Just dismissed me and my request with total disrespect! My next letter is to the BBB. Bowie tailor shouldn't even be allowed to operate if they treat any customer the way I was treated! I took it to another cleaners Mt. Oak. Excellent customer service. I had asked the staff to re-sew 2 leather dog leashes to reinforce the worn ends. I went to pick up the completed work 5 days later. Upon inspection, one area that needed the strongest stitches seemed weaker and not well sewn, so I asked him to look at it, he said is was good, I disagreed and asked him to re-do it as the whole point of the repair was to reinforce that spot. He complained in a foreign language to 2 other Asian men in the store handing the leash to one, and then yelling at me to pay immediately. I said I was not going to pay until the work was done and that I wasn't going anywhere. (An African American lady came in and asked if they could repair her purse. He referred her to a shoe repair shop . In my non expert observation, my leather leashes were thicker than her purse, so I have no idea why she was referred out but this is not my business). 5 minutes later, the man was much calmer , the work was done better, I paid and left. I feel his yelling and pressure for me to accept what I clearly was not happy with related to the repair job was unprofessional and to the point of bullying the customer. I will not tolerate being pushed around and I suspect fellow customers do not welcome this either. Do not go to this business. Unpleasant business manner if you attempt to question them. read more
