Always a good time when I go here. It's a laid-back bowling alley, not a fancy shmancy place like Bowlero or Humdingers, but if you're looking for an inexpensive good time, just check this out. This is def an older Bowling Alley tucked in Union City. If it wasn't for the big sign on the side of the building I would have thought it was a runned down factory. Nothing fancy at all. I fact once you open the doors you have to climb a few steps and my son thought we were going into a scary house. Once upstairs it looks more like a bowling alley but very small. Don't expect anything hi tech or modern, very dated and simple. The ball kept getting stuck midway in the lane but it can serve the purpose . A few arcade games tin the lobby and its $3.00 per game. I don't think I will return as the one is Bayonne and Belleville and nicer and they have parking. Bowl Rite Lanes is a divey, no frills bowling alley in the heart of Union City - very convenient to get to from Hoboken. If you want bells and whistles, this isn't your place. If you just want to enjoy some cheap fun and drinks/snacks with friends, this is your spot. Lanes are first come/first serve and they have two floors of them - I think around 30 in total. Their technology isn't modern but it keeps the scores just fine and the dated graphics give you a chuckle. No satellite radio tunes - KTU is their station of choice. The staff working there are hustling and efficient. They have a bar area where there's a pool table for $1 a game. We went this past Saturday since it was so cold out and wanted to do something. We were able to get a lane with no wait around 3 pm. Games are $5 each per person on weekends, $3 shoe rentals. They didn't rush us off our lane since we purchased more games. We didn't eat any food there but our lane neighbors got an order of chicken fingers and fries which looked and smelled incredible. I will have to order them the next time I am there. Saturday mornings at Bowl Rite have now turned into Wednesday nights at Bowl Rite thanks to my league, and I am happy to say this place is still just as cool as it was when I was a kid. If you're expecting a bougie, frou-frou, chic bowling alley with light-up lanes and fancy cocktails and electronic menus....seriously, turn around and go home. Bowl Rite is a staple of the great HUDSON COUNTY. It is part of the local culture of my beautiful (yet often ratchet) home turf, and as such, this place is not meant to impress you. Don't get me wrong - the recent renovations definitely add personality, but this place is a LOCAL BOWLING ALLEY. If you want to pay 25 dollars a game because some young waitress is serving you cocktails in roller skates, please take your attitude across the river to Bowlmor. We don't need that energy here! Anyway...Bowl Rite has everything you need for a great night out. The games are reasonable. Pro-tip: If you get there early on a weekday, the games will actually be a little cheaper. Don't worry; the bar is still open, so you can day drink your way into bowling oblivion. Speaking of! Bowl Rite has an excellent bar with plenty of cheap drinks, from White Claws to beer (in a bottle, not on tap) to mixed cocktails. Again, just don't go order anything fancy, stick with the simple drinks. The bar prices are just as fair, too. Need some some food comfort after rolling several gutterballs? Well, guess what! Went in a group of 6, requested for a lighter ball to play with, was met with a rude "they're for kids" response and no further explanation as to why I couldn't get one. Bowl Rite is absolutely amazing and Richie (the owner) his son Ryan, and everyone who works there are the best--like family. My wife and daughter have been bowling there for 5 years or so now, we do the family fun league for the fall and winter seasons. It's a true community and we have made friends with families who are also regulars. The best part is how much time Richie spends helping everyone get better. He and the folks who work at Bowl Rite really love bowling and spend the time to help itHers love the game too. As of this review, my average is up from about a 120 to a 160. My wife has gone from 87 to about 140, and our daughter was a 6-7 bumper bowler and is now a 120 avg. So, so glad we found Bowl Rite!! read more

Came here recently with my coworkers for some team bonding time! If you've never been here before then you might have a hard time finding where it actually is. Make sure you look for the sign with the name or the number of the place because it's actually in a building in the second floor so you have to walk up some stairs! Though I didn't not have to pay for anything, the vibe and the aesthetics was just not there for me. The place was fairly outdated and with so many bowling places nowadays I wish this place would have been a bit more updated! This place offers food with a pretty big menu of things you can order. Though I wouldn't say you'd come here to bowl and grab some finger foods! Perhaps if you're just coming to bowl with family or friends then this would be the perfect place. If you don't care about aesthetics then why not come here! New to the neighborhood, decided to take a walk over to the local lanes. Can't express how thrilled I am to be so close to a bowling alley, especially one of this quality. The price can not be beat! I got three games, including shoes, for $12. They have two floors with lanes, a modest arcade, and a room for table tennis. After my terrible experiences with overpriced bowling alleys in Manhattan I decided it might be a better idea to try an alley that leaned more towards the salt-of-the-earth type crowds rather than the clubby crowds the ones in Manhattan ridiculously try to cater to. Jersey seemed to be the answer. However, this alley is like that dark alley you would never want to meet someone in. The place was sketchy from the get-go, even from the outside while looking for a parking spot. This is the type of neighborhood where you run little scenarios in your head about how you might react if you got mugged or car-jacked. You think: Can my keys could be used as a weapon? That should paint the picture. If they had a lit up sign for the bowling alley it was probably out or non-functioning. I'm guessing it's not on their to-do list for fixing anytime soon. Along the side of a brick building you will find the door to the place that reveals an ominous stairway that leads up. Once you get to the top you can breath a sigh of relief and put your fears aside. It's a bowling alley. A great bowling alley? No. I don't own a bowling ball nor do I foresee myself making that kind of purchase in the near future. For the people that don't own their own bowling balls, be prepared to search from an odd assortment of balls that are either too heavy, too light, or have finger holes that are made for creatures that aren't human. Naturally, we lost a couple balls because we had a lane that didn't work quite right. On more than one instance, "the guy" had to be called in to fix one or two problems with the lanes by walking onto the lane itself. Despite all this, we had a good time and I could not complain about the prices. I think it was about $8 a game. No shoe rental fee. It was about 1/5 the cost of an alley in Manhattan. Let me preface this by saying I grew up in Bergen County, NJ. I'm not a big city girl, or not yet at least. So sometimes I'm taken back by divey places because I'm not used to them. That's exactly what happened here. The Uber driver dropped us off and I saw the sign for Bowl Rite Lanes and thought it was a joke. The outside is extremely sketchy. When you walk in the door you are greeted by a sketchy stairwell that you must go up before you get to the alley. Once I got past the initial bewilderment of the entrance, I realized it's a pretty typical bowling alley. A night of drinks and bowling was pretty cheap. I paid about $10 for 2 games and to rent bowling shoes. The place isn't huge we had to wait a little bit before a lane opened up but we chilled in the bar for about 10 minutes which was fine. I'd definitely come back. It's super close to Hoboken and easy to get to. There's parking across the street and street parking available. My only tip is make sure you're prepared for literally a hole-in-the-wall type place! read more

This is a great way to spend a night with friends when you are looking for an alternative to the usual bar scene. Can't lie, the outside is a bit shady (ominous door on the side of a concrete building type of deal) and the decor tad outdated. However, if you are looking for a place to bowl, drink and eat greasy food then Bowl Rite will not fail to deliver. Nowadays, almost any night out ends up costing 50 dollars at minimum. Here you can have yourself quite the time while barely surpassing the 20 buck mark. Two rounds of bowling plus a shoe rental comes to $12, beers are 2 dollars a bottle and a platter of chicken fingers and fries is around 5-6 dollars and can be shared with a few friends. There are plenty of lanes and I've never had to wait my turn to bowl. The staff is friendly and accommodating and they've got killer food and cheap beer. Totally hidden, you have to enter through a very non-descript door and climb several flights of stairs before you reach the lobby, where they have a desk to rent shoes and a bar where you can order refreshments. They also have arcade games and a pool table, and two whole floors of bowling lanes. Obviously there are better bowling alleys in the world, but this place is classic. It's like the bowling alleys of my childhood, a relic right out of the 90s (even the little VH1-esque animations that show up on the screen after you get a strike are exactly like I remember them). Came here on a Friday night, expected it to be filled with young kids but actually quite a lot of different age groups. Back track- the outside can look sketch but it's totally safe inside and be prepared for a fun time. I like the layout of the bowling alley and how there's an upstairs and downstairs. Staff is very friendly and the prices are amazing. There's a few arcade games/ photobooth inside and a bar next to the food area. My chicken tenders & fries (have a choice of curly or regular) and coke hit the spot. Tip: They have a card minimum so be prepared to venmo others or have cash! Highly recommended. Honestly, one of the weirdest places I've been to. Looks extremely sketchy from the outside, but I must say, I enjoyed myself. Again, try not to judge this place from the outside - it looks like an abandoned building. The sign is half falling off. Really weird. When you go through the door, you go up this super sketchy flight of stairs. My friends and I were actually loling. However, when we got to the top of the stairs, it was an authentic bowling alley and really it was pretty sweet! The employees were great - plenty of lanes. We started with Coronas (ice cold & $4) and nachos (SUPER cheesy) while we waited 20 minutes for an open lane for 2 at 6PM on a Saturday. Workers were doing well to accommodate everyone, but it seems like they were under staffed that day. The one girl was running around helping everyone. If you're brave enough to adventure over to Jersey City for bowling this spot at first glance is a hidden jewel. You wouldn't know from the unlabeled door that 2 floors up there is a bowling alley/bar/mini arcade awaiting. This is definitely a teen hang out spot but also very family friendly. While enjoying a stiff drink from the bar or a pitcher of Sprite, you can enjoy yourself while you bowl the night away. If you get hungry the food prices are extremely reasonable as well as the per game bowling. My wife and I bowl here once a week- We're not in a league, we just absolutely love it here. Bowl Rite has everything you could want from a classic bowling alley. The lanes are great, the people are great, and it's crazy affordable. Is it fancy? No, but when you thought "hey, let's go bowling", did you really also think "this better be fancy"? Also no. If you want a luxurious nightclub atmosphere, table service, or just the simple joy of paying way too much, this might not be the place for you. If you instead want to enjoy the actual bowling experience, you'll LOVE it here. The higher-priced places put more effort into their signature cocktail menu than they put into maintaining the lanes, but Bowl Rite does the opposite. These guys really care about the game. The lanes are clean, the oil patterns are consistent, the machines are maintained, and they even just got all new pins as of mid-June 2017. We're not phenomenal bowlers, but thanks to the care put into these lanes, we both seem to bowl better and more consistently here than we do anywhere else... So much so that we actually want to keep getting better at it. We've brought lots of friends and family here, and they always leave feeling like they're suddenly into bowling. This place seems to have that effect. If we are due for a retro bowling renaissance, this place will soon be crawling with hipsters who are more concerned with posting selfies than enjoying the game. Fortunately it's not overrun quite yet. Prices range from $2 to $4 per game depending on the day, and shoe rental is $3. That's a great deal. For comparison, Lucky Strike NYC is between $6 and $13 per person per hour, so if four people are on a lane, you're getting 1 game in per hour. That's literally three times as expensive as Bowl Rite, not to mention the even bigger price differences for food and drinks. There is a snack bar with plenty of not-so-healthy eats. That's not a complaint, it's a compliment. Do you want an artisan Nicoise salad with shaved truffles while bowling? No. Bowling calls for deep-fried jalapeno poppers, chicken fingers, mozzarella sticks, bacon cheeseburgers and fries, all served on red plastic trays. Portions are generous, prices are low, service is quick, and diets are irrelevant. All is as it should be. There's a full bar with a good sound system, a pool table, 4 TVs, and SUPER cheap drinks (and yes, there are a few creative cocktails). There is also a mini-arcade up front. We've been here while a kid's birthday party was going on, and they seemed to have that down to a science. The staff were on high alert, quickly taking care of requests from kids and parents. Having two floors is definitely useful- Parties, leagues, and randos like us can all coexist. It's definitely family-friendly, with lane bumpers and colorful dragon ramps. It's mostly teens and older after 9pm, which is when we usually go. There's always a top 40 playlist coming through a good PA system, never loud enough to prevent conversation. We can't say enough good stuff about the staff. I feel like we are always getting preferential treatment, but we really aren't. They're awesome people who seem to genuinely enjoy helping all their customers have fun. Many of them are also insanely good bowlers, and if it's not crazy busy, they even help us out with some tips. Plus, when they get some free time, they are out there demonstrating some nasty strikes and heckling each other over the PA system. They run a good pro shop, too. We've bought 2 balls and 2 pairs of shoes, and they did a great job recommending gear and drilling the balls for us (thanks Junior and Angel). Logistics: There is a parking lot but it's shared by neighborhood residents, so you may need a few minutes to find street parking. Like other reviews say, you'd easily miss the door at night because the sign above isn't lit, and the staircase up smells like industrial-strength cleaner. Journey confidently past these obstacles. Take comfort in the Coors Light poster halfway up the stairs, and let it assure you that you're on the right path. You'll be OK, I promise.
