When I checked Howley's on yelp I was surprised that there were so many negative reviews. Howley's is managed by the Sub-Culture Group, and we dine regularly at Kapow in East Boca and Dada in Delray Beach, also managed by Sub-Culture. And while this is an entirely different type of food, I still wanted to take a chance and check them out. And we did and were pleased and more than satisfied. First, the decor is truly funky. I'm not sure if everything is from the 50's when they first opened, but it sure looked like it was. The restaurant was spotless, and the toilet was as well. The AC was strong which was appreciated. Artwork on the walls was not our style but must have been from a local artist. Ceiling fixtures were similar to what my parent's had in the late 60's. Jessica was our server and she was professional and positive in her attitude. Could not have asked for anything more. Decided to order a turkey club on rye bread ($15) with fries which were included and share it. Some of the reviews addressed how large their portions were and photos confirmed it. Jessica brought out the sandwich which was split in the kitchen with an ample amount of fries on each plate. The fries were delicious. Obviously freshly made and not sitting around, they were crisp without being overcooked. The turkey was described as fresh roasted sliced turkey and it sure was. Bacon was plentiful and crispy along with fresh lettuce and tomato. Mayo served on the side as requested. The sandwich was so large that I was only able to eat a half of my half, taking the rest home for the following day. Ordered a corn muffin and chocolate chip muffin to take home and each was fresh and delicious. ($5-$6) Howley's certainly warrants a visit if you are in the area and not seeking a trendy looking place which exists all over West Palm where the food may not be as good but the vibe is what is being sold with mediocre food. There was an on-site manager who visited our table to make sure all was good. I neglected to ask her name and apologize - she was welcoming and clearly on top of her managerial duties. Would I return? Sure would. And endorse fellow helpers to check them out.

I also tried a cup of their chicken noodle soup, which I enjoyed. The steak was cooked perfectly and came with crispy onions on top. The mashed potatoes had a very nice texture, and you could tell that the gravy was homemade. The green beans were crisp and flavorful.

The bartender was easy to talk to and gave a couple suggestions without making it feel like a sales pitch. Both dishes came out pretty quickly even though the place started filling up during happy hour. The bruschetta had a nice mix of sweet and savory, and the avocado toast was fresh without being overly dressed up. I liked the overall pace of the service since nobody rushed me to order more once I finished eating. It felt like a comfortable place to unwind for a bit instead of a loud crowded spot where you're trying to leave right away.

Service was also very slow, even when it wasn't busy. Everything took longer than expected and seemed disorganized. On top of that, the bartender was rude and unwelcoming. I was also charged for another person's drink without being asked or informed; which was unacceptable and felt careless. The staff seemed "blind" to how to properly run a restaurant. For the prices being charged, I expected much better food, service, and attention to detail. Unfortunately, I will not be returning.

You order and pay at the counter. They bring your food to you. Service was friendly and prompt. Loved their t-shirts, too. They had a lot of options on their menu (which is on the wall above the counter) -- some "healthier" than others. I chose their soup and half sandwich. And my husband opted for one of their acai bowls. For my half sandwich, I chose the Turkey with avocado and cranberry sauce. I had them leave off the mayo. The sandwich was very good. I liked the whole grain bread it was on and the combo of savory and sweet. For my soup, I had the tomato bisque. It was thick and creamy. For me there was a bit too much acidity, but it went well with the sandwich. So I took most of it home and my husband enjoyed it later that day. His choice was their Reef Road acai bowl. The bowl had layers of fresh cut fruit -- kiwi, strawberries, pineapple, et al, and some crunchy grains. The bottom layer was frozen acai. And I think there was coconut sprinkled on top. He said it was very good and quite refreshing. I'd come back to try some of their other soups and sandwiches or maybe one of their salads...he'd return for their bowls and smoothies.

The staff were incredibly friendly, professional, and really knowledgeable about the menu, which made choosing what to order so much easier (and more fun). I decided to try the veggie burger, which they told me was a new recipe -- and let me tell you, it was absolutely amazing. Hands down one of the best veggie burgers I've ever had: perfectly seasoned, hearty, and so flavorful. I also tried one of their smoothies, which had the perfect texture and consistency -- creamy, refreshing, and just right -- as well as one of their homemade chocolates, which was absolutely divine. One thing I really appreciate is that everything here is plant-based and gluten-free, so it's not just delicious but also something I feel great about eating. It's such a gift to have a place where healthy food actually tastes fantastic. What really stood out, though, was the great conversation I had with the new general manager. He took the time to come over and chat, tell me about some of the exciting changes coming with their rebranding, and you can tell he really cares about making this place something special. This experience completely won back my loyalty -- I can't wait to keep coming back to see how the changes unfold and to try all the new menu items they're rolling out. If you haven't been in a while, do yourself a favor and check it out. You won't be disappointed!

But other visits were good too and the bowl is $13.50. I love this spot. It has traffic but still pretty quiet and I prefer to eat outside. Parking is easy when I don't walk. Service is good, they always bring my bowl outside and take it away when I'm done. I see ppl ordering other things that look delicious but I can't escape this bowl!

Cool, no problem... except there's literally no "order now" button or online ordering section anywhere on their website. The person on the phone insisted she could see the button on her end. Walked in less than 5 minutes later (place was practically empty except one other customer) and asked her to show me on her phone. Suddenly she couldn't find it either and got noticeably flustered. Felt like a straight-up lie to avoid taking phone orders. Ordered an açaí bowl at the counter. Ingredients looked fresh and it was made to order, but it still took a solid 10 minutes for something that should've been fast in an empty shop. The bowl itself was good -- nice fruit, decent portion -- but the peanut butter drizzle was that super-sweet, processed squeeze-bottle stuff that tastes like candy more than actual peanut butter. Kind of defeats the "natural" vibe. Paid almost $14 after tax... felt steep for what it was. The space is small and honestly feels cluttered -- random shelves, mismatched furniture, layout is a little chaotic. Not the chill, Instagram-worthy health cafe vibe you might expect. Bottom line: the food is decent if you're already nearby and not in a rush, but the customer service mishap and pricing left a bad taste. I'll probably pass next time unless they get the online ordering actually working (or just admit they take phone orders).
