Our dog has had quite the journey with various vets, each one a learning experience, but not always in the best way. From the very beginning, we knew she would need a vet who understood the importance of building trust with frequent visits and gentle handling. Unfortunately, our first vet experience at 8 weeks old wasn't ideal, as they clearly had a bias against her breed. This set the stage for the challenges, resulting in what seemed like interview calls to understand a vet's knowledge around specific dog breeds. As our dog got a little older, we moved and, after making multiple calls to potential vets, we decided to give Bowman vet hospital a try in 2017. Bowman vet hospital of 2017-2019 was a good clinic, but there was one unfortunate incident that caused us to change vets. The person handling our then 8-month-old pup didn't understand a dog's cues. Our dog always licks lips, makes noise then nips, and if someone continues to push boundaries she will bite them. This person must have not understood dogs. We decided it was best to give our dog a chance to rebuild trust elsewhere. For the next few years, we found a vet who helped her regain confidence in the vet visit process. However, we knew our dog needed surgery and didn't feel the latest vet was suitable for it, so we decided to give Bowman another chance. The person she bit no longer worked there. But, one of the reasons for our return was Jade, who worked there and was someone we always trusted with her honest feedback. Another factor was the clinic changed doctors. Dr. Haas, who has an incredible understanding of how to work with my dog's breed. Upon our return to this clinic after many years, we noticed that the place had undergone a bit of a remodel. The entrance sitting area is more inviting with the indoor plants and the exam rooms are also remodeled. Dr. Haas took the time to ask extensive questions to develop the perfect care plan for our dog. It wasn't just a routine check-up, it was a thorough discussion that outlined when, why, and how we should proceed with her long-term care. The attention to detail, including documentation that appeared to be hand-typed, was a testament to the personalized care this clinic now provides. We also discussed the potential bill and they have a care program to assist. The technicians were also friendly and helpful. After our dog had surgery, it was clear that we had come to the right place. She wasn't treated as another transaction. Our dog was treated as an individual. Dr. Haas has restored our faith in veterinary care, and as our dog continues to rebuild her trust in vets, I find Dr. Haas and the small team at Bowman to be the partners in her journey. We stopped going to Bowman for a variety of reasons. Mostly becasue they were angry when we took our dog to another vet for emergency care versus waiting for them for two day. We now have a lovely, responsive vet, who does exams with us there and doesn't have to take the dog to a back room for an exam. (Why do they have to do that? Ask yourself...). Dr. Haas stated in writing that she would follow the law and okay prescription refills for a year, but she is now refusing to fulfill them. She is also refusing to cancel the prescription so we can't get it filled. Don't trust them. read more

Can't say enough about Dr. Christine Haas & Bowmen Veterinary Hospital. Just for some context, we live in ROCKLIN, CA, and there's plenty of Vets between us and Auburn, CA. We travel a lil ways because of the treatment our fur animals, and the care they receive from Dr. Haas and her staff. She really cares about what she does and shows in her bedside manor when examining / treating our pets. She does so much more than her yearly exams and vaccinations. She takes the time to discuss our pets behaviors, diet, and their usual environment. Guiding us on preventative care vs. reactive care. I can go on and on... If your looking for a good Vet that is not trying to charge you for something you don't need, and actually takes the time to help you understand the importance of prevention to common health conditions, look no further. We always liked Dr. Haas passion for our dog but the staff especially the front desk lady is complete pain to deal with it , she is always rude , passive aggressive and impatient on the phone and didn't like our dog from day one. Very disappointed after a whole year taking our pup there for routine appointments and his vaccines we made a neutering appointment which it ended up with our dog acted aggressive while they were doing blood draw- mind you they knew he has anxiety and no one advised us to give him his anxiety medicine before hand because we only occasionally use the medicine. They didn't know how to deal with it they called us and refuse to proceed with his appointment meanwhile they sold us medication that they do not want to refund ( very unethical move since they are the ones refusing the service) We have talked to many people since and they all told us every dog gets aggressive before the blood test and surgery! unfortunately the staff are not trained to deal with stuff like that. We don't know exactly what happened in the exam room as we were not there ( wouldn't it be a common sense to have the owner there if the dog has a history of anxiety? ) it's just hear say but When they brought him out in the lobby In a muzzle none of the staff were careful enough to let us know not to take the muzzle off until he is at the car or until he calmed down .that is also a common sense coming from trained staff?. We are not trained individuals aren't they supposed to be? The vet recommended euthanasia for our one year old dog so heartless Many people especially our clinical behavioral trainer who is the only expert with the degree and respected trainer in three counties has told us that they didn't handle the situation properly at all So No I will not recommend them and really regret telling good things about them to my friends We have found another place that are happy to help us with his neutering appointment- we are just trying to do the right thing for our dog. read more

Incompetent, shady and run-down. This vet will attempt to upsell you on unnecessary, overpriced procedures and medication. Their receptionist struck out after copying either my phone number wrong, address wrong, and reason for appointment wrong on all 4 times we visited. They have you constantly coming back for visits attempting to pad your bill every time, adding procedures that were not discussed when making the original appointment. Last week, I came in for a booster shot for my puppy and they tried to sell me on many more shots, and then told me they could not see him because he needed a relaxant before they were willing to administer the shot - something they didn't tell us when we made the appointment. I pleaded and they said to come back next week, as if I have all the time in the world to break free to them during work hours. The amount of extras they tried to tack on when I had my puppy fixed brought the bill to over $800. I had to have them go through each line item and whittle it down to about $650, which was still a ridiculous sum given their subpar office and staff. Their office is run down, with a decor stuck in the late 60s. For what they charge, you would expect a state-of-the-art vet facility. Lastly, their rules are ridiculous. Only one person can go into a room at a time, and even then, they won't allow that person to be present when a shot is administered for what they claim to be "insurance reasons"... I have been to many vets and never heard of such a policy. I'm taking my business elsewhere after trying them out. i doubt anyone in the area could be worse or more expensive. read more

If I could leave a negative star rating I WOULD. Took our dog here for teeth cleaning and extractions. After he's under anesthesia, they inform my husband he needs 13 teeth pulled that cost over 110$ a tooth. YIKES. After a 2,400$ bill for teeth cleaning and extractions- never will be back to this place. They are essentially charging over $500 an hour for extractions. Highway robbery at this place. My husband called to talk to Dr. Kaur to talk about the price charge, and they would not budge, no refund or credit to our account. We called to our previous vet , North Fork- they charge 250$ max for full mouth extractions. The reason why we switched here, our other dog had a terrible ear infection and this was the only place that could take him. That totaling 1,600$- for cultures, medication , and shots that they talked my husband into, should have been my first clue to take business elsewhere. The vets and vet techs here are great. They are friendly and gentle with our dog. We have been working with them on getting her seizures under control for the last month or so. The poor pup was still having a periodic seizure through her phenobarbital so they did some bloodwork for us and added in new medication to help keep it under control. They have been very helpful and caring under the circumstances and have answered all of our many, many questions. read more

DO NOT GO HERE! Do not get any dental work done here!! I would not recommend this hospital to anyone. I should've done better research about this place before going here. There are multiple complaints about this hospital pulling perfectly healthy teeth that do not need to be pulled from our pups. My baby girl just got 7 of her teeth taken from her when they did not need to be pulled. I got opinions from 4 other vets (showed them x-rays too) since this incident and they all said they wouldn't have pulled any of my 2 year old babies teeth. This place probably purposely pulled the "unimportant" teeth from my baby to maybe make a little extra cash. They claimed it was due to bone loss. 4 other professional opinions told me my baby had no bone loss after looking at the x-rays. I beg of you to please file a complaint to the veterinary medical board if you have had bad experiences with this hospital. This place should not be allowed to operate. I used to bring all of my animals here. However, under the new ownership of this clinic I will never return and advise anybody that reads this to do the same. I took my puppy here because he was vomiting and had low appetite, this place ran up a $584 bill on tests, medications, and foods. 2 days later my puppy declined significantly. So I took him to Atlantic st pet emergency center. They said he showed clear signs of parvo. They tested him and said he had a terrible case of parvo, and he is now being held in emergency quarantine. The vet at Atlantic was angered by the fact that bowman didn't show any concern or test for parvo. Do not go to bowman vet hospital. read more

My daughter's 1 year old male cat became very sick in the night. When she called her vet they said "we cannot see your cat today, we are booked for 2 weeks". They were not concerned at all! What kind of a vet does not have some "reserved" times for emergencies. That would be like a Dentist not able to see you with an emergency toothache. Or a Pediatrician not able to see your infant with a high fever? Anyway a co-worker suggested Bowman Vet They took him in immediately, gave him meds and they called twice that day to check on him. Dr. Hass and staff were all fantastic! We are SOOO thankful to have found Bowman Vet Hospital. Then last month my 18 year old female cat became ill on a Saturday and after calling 20+ places, finally got her treated at an Emergency Vet in Roseville. They stabilized her & suggested more diagnosis in a week at her regular vet. I called Bowman Vet and scheduled an exam for my cat. Dr. Haas is so good!! She is compassionate, a good listener, explains things thoroughly. I like that she took a very "practical" approach weighing my pet's age, conditions, etc and did not just immediately order a bunch of blood work, tests, x-rays. As experienced GSD (German Shepherd Dog) rescue volunteers, my family has worked with literally dozens of vets all over the greater Sacramento area for the last decade. We're not experts, but with all that experience gained with fostering over 90 rescue dogs, we know a good vet when we meet one. So I was very pleased when I recently learned that Dr. Christine Haas had joined the practice at Bowman. After previously experiencing the level of compassion, care and genuine concern she showed for every one of the rescue dogs we have put in her care, she has also become our vet of choice to care for our own dogs as well. What we like most about working with Dr. Haas is that she is very thorough in her diagnosis and recommendations, and she communicates clearly giving you the information you need to make good decisions for the care of your pets. We have also come to appreciate the fact that she stays current on all the latest research, and can provide sound advice on nutrition, and specialized care methods like acupuncture. At the same time, she will not hesitate to consult with her senior practice principals for advice, or do additional research on a specific condition to help get the right answer. These are the kinds of things you'd hope all vets would do. But it's an amazing find to have someone willing to actually take the time to do them. Besides our deep appreciation and respect for Dr. Haas, we've been delighted with the service and support from the whole staff at Bowman. The front office staff is super efficient, and polite and will bend over backward to accommodate appointment requests. In particular, Jade has been extremely helpful in following up with our foster dogs. The other reason we like Bowman clinic is that they are part of a small family owned group of vet practices. This means they have the resources to invest it state of the art technology without becoming part of a massive corporate chain to do so. Due to COVID restrictions, I have not had a full tour of their facility. But from the photos I've see of their remodel, it looks first rate. I would highly recommend this practice. I Brought my kitten Lilo in for follow up care after a overnight stay in Emergency for seizures. When I left the Emergency Hospital I was scared, not knowing what was going on and if she would be ok. When we arrived at Bowman we were greeted by super sweet staff over the phone and due to Covid they come and take them inside for you-then the Veterinarian calls you! All totally understandable and ok by me! I got a call from Dr Christine Haas- who explained everything to me in detail in regards to Lilo, what tests were recommended to be ran and why, what they would show her etc. The way it was presented to me was done in such a way that she was able to calm this crazed Mom down, I knew she was in good hands. Lilo was able to be stabilized on medication to prevent more seizures while the tests are being ran and I have my baby girl back!! We have had zero seizures since then and we have a treatment plan in place that we are working through with her. I took my cranky sometimes possessed cat to Bowman Vet for an early morning appointment. She had suddenly developed a swelling along her jawline. I was a worried cat parent! I know my cat is a handful but, I love her dearly. For the safety of all involved I "medicate" her at home prior all vet visits. I don't trust just anyone for treat my drugged up cat, especially since I can't be with her because of COVID restrictions. The staff was excellent start to finish! The reception staff was nice and welcoming without coming off as fake (a very hard skill to master at 8 am in January,). Dr Haas was quick to figure out my cats problem , an abscess. Probably from playing with the new kitten I got recently. Anyway, Dr Haas & her team shaved, cleaned, & drained the abscess. Problem solved! My cat was sent home on pain medication and antibiotics for a week. The technician had my drunk cat back to me in record time! She also did a really good job explaining how to properly store and give both medications. Beyond disappointed and angered with this vet. Specifically CHRISTINE HAAS, DVM. After going here for almost 2 years with my dog's heart problems (CHF, enlarged heart) and spending thousands of dollars, today after my dog had an ECHO on her heart and they told me just how bad her heart is struggling they tried to hold my chihuahua hostage because they said she was due for her rabies vaccine. I said absolutely not, was put on hold and then told that for their safety and my dog's safety she had to be vaccinated or else they couldn't see her. I told the woman "Kelly" that my dog had already been seen and I just wanted to pay and get my dog back with NO RABIES VACCINE. My husband had to call and tell them that they better give me my dog back and after I had a full blown panic attack and my husband called them they gave her back to me. I have actually been told by a different vet that my dog should NEVER again get any vaccines because she has autoimmune problems. I told Kelly at Bowman this and she did not give a hoot. NEVER will I go back here or recommend BOWMAN vet!!! read more

New vet is very shocked that Bowman Veterinary Hospital would recommend killing my dog over lumps. The best "bedside manner" from any vet i have been to. I transferred here from a vet i was with for about 20 yrs because of the attention to detail regarding my fur family. I had overheard a conversation with the doc and my buddy. Her explanations, tone and the apparent concern for his dog was what brought me to them and when one of my dogs went in for the first time, I was treated in the exact same fashion. This vet clinic is a sham! Our 1 year old dog was brought to their clinic on 5/14/20. We were told he wouldn't make it through the night unless he received a blood transfusion that cost 3000.00. We took him to the hospital and they said he didn't need a transfusion at all. Luckily we had the money for the transfusion just in case or we would have put him down. I cant say enough good things about Bowman, they have been my vet for 5 yrs now and they have given all my animals excellent care. They think outside the box and offer some holistic type treatments that can enhance the care for various conditions. It's apparent the DVM's all care about animals. I am certain my Mastiff would not be around today if not for Bowman. Our Mastiff is xxl and aggressive which makes it very difficult for the doctors to treat him, despite this they always provide outstanding care. I was told ( by diff vet) my Mastiff would be crippled and unable to walk by age 3 or 4 as he had bilat hip dysplasia, spinal and ankle deformities. Our Mastiff just turned 8 yo last month !!.
