Have tried 5 different vets in this area over the last 2 years. Came here when I thought my German Shepard had a sprained shoulder, but turns out he had bone cancer. The doctor literally sat on the floor and was real with us but also empathetic. This place is so down to earth. No upselling. No getting you things you don't need. No surprise charges. This staff is so amazing. I take my English mastiff puppy and my golden retriever here and was very honest about being taken advantage of by VCA pet hospitals in the past. Instead of taking offense or feeling like I was attacking their profession as a whole, the vet here explain to me why she was administering each thing to each of my pups (one had a hot spot and ear infection, the other was coming for their second parvo shot). They are super sweet and helpful, and I just went in for my pups 3rd parvo shot and rabies shot, they had me in and out in literally 7 minutes or so. Highly recommend read more

Dr Mackinnon is just amazing. She will take the time to answer any questions you have and never makes you feel silly for asking. She truly loves animals and it shows. Her staff are extremely kind and loving to our wiener dogs. You can tell that everyone woking there wants to work there and they love their job. I only wish she had some kind of price sheet for different services instead of just being told when you check out. My family LOVES the staff at Auburn Pet Clinic - especially Dr. MacKinnon! She's so thorough and easy to work with. Our dog had a few health issues and, while other vets immediately wanted him to get surgery, Dr. MacKinnon took a more holistic approach and wanted us to change his food for a while. Our little guy is getting older so when we found a large lump on the side of his neck and above his collar we were very concerned. Due to the holidays we couldn't get him into his regular vet for a least two weeks so we called Auburn Pet Clinic as we had gone there previously with another dog years before. Dr. Rice was no longer practicing but Doctor Wendy was there and we were able to get an appointment within two days. After a thorough examination and blood work he was put on antibiotics and steroids and then checked again three days later. We felt he was doing much better but Doctor Wendy wanted us to keep him on the antibiotics and steroids until they were gone. Hopefully he is on his way to a full recovery. read more

Dr makinnon and Dr neilson have seen my pets for close to 8 years now when they were at a different clinic I'm so excited they work here they've seen 5 of my animals plus numerous other rescues and fosters I have had and I can't stress enough how absolutely amazing they are. Never do unneeded tests or procedures and always inform me of all the possibilities and options which means a lot to me. They are always mindful of how much I'm able to spend which helps so much because I have a lot of animals. I read in other yelp reviews that someone had to wait since there was an emergency (that they as a trained professional assumes wasn't actually an emergency) BUT personally I'm always happy to wait for an animal in greater need of medical care than my animal. I ALWAYS tell anyone who will listen too take the drive to the clinic because it's well worth getting such amazing care!! read more

We absolutely love this place!! Dr. MacKinnon is the best and takes care of our Great Dane and all his big breed needs. Our boy has been with her since he was a pup and she performed his gastropexy along with neuter and his ridiculous skin car needs. She's always willing to work with you and makes you feel like family. When he needed his surgery she told us about other places that did the same surgery so that we could research all options. We ended up having her perform it because anyone that's willing to put your dogs best interest first rather then make a buck is golden in our eyes. We highly recommend her. read more

My cat Samwise had a heart palpitation and was on medication. He was also a very anxious cat. He was fine at home, but going to the vet was always scary for him. After some bad experiences with his last vet, I was recommended Auburn Pet Clinic and made an appointment when I noticed he was breathing heavily regularly even with medication. He was on the lowest dose, and I thought moving up a dosage might made him more comfortable. Unfortunately, having to wait for his appointment made his heart act up, and his breathing was heavy even as I checked in. It was bad enough that the staff invited me out back so they could give him oxygen. That was very forward-thinking of them and I was glad for the initiative they took there. He'd had these attacks before so even though I was scared, I thought it was going to be alright. This leads me to my biggest reason for leaving a middling review. While waiting for the vet, the person operating the oxygen machine was not paying attention to my cat. At all. Often she wouldn't move the apparatus to his mouth when he turned his head because she wasn't looking, so I had to step forward and move his head towards it for him, or subtly move the apparatus in her place. She checked her phone multiple times during the 45 minutes I was waiting in that room for the vet, and was not working on anything else that would excuse the fact that I was taking the initiative to make sure he was breathing the oxygen and she wasn't. That said, I was told there was an emergency and a dog had come in with a pretty serious injury so I do understand why I was waiting. Unfortunately, there were two emergencies happening and only one vet. Once I did see the doctor, I explained his breathing issues. I was told I could increase his medicine, which is what I had gone to the vet to get the OK on in the first place, but that anything else would require tests the vet didn't feel comfortable doing in his current state. That was fair, he was clearly having an attack. His mouth was open and he was obviously distressed. That's when I brought up when I should start thinking of putting him to sleep. I expressed I didn't want him to die scared and in pain. The vet helping me said it was a possibility, but to get the tests done first at a later date. She gave him a shot and told me to get him home quickly and 'hopefully his breathing would get better'. I think you can all see where this is going. My cat died, terrified and in pain, on the way home. I was lucky in that I did get him inside, but he died in my arms gasping for breath shortly after. I asked about putting him to sleep specifically because I did not want him to suffer, and he was sent home in an emergency state. We brought his body back to the vet to have him cremated and I said goodbye. The staff were all INCREDIBLY gracious and kind to me during this time, expressed how sorry they were, everything one would want to have after their pet passes away. I am very grateful to them for that, and I do think it was all very genuine. I don't think anything that happened was malicious. My cat was an eleven year old Maine Coon with heart failure. He was going to pass eventually, I doubt he would have survived long, it was simply that trip that triggered his final attack. I do not blame the vet, but I will say that hour I spent waiting and watching as my cat struggled to breath while a clearly very bored woman checked her phone and neglected my animal was an incredibly painful time for me, let alone all that followed. I hope that in the future when something like this happens, the person helping will be more attentive to the animals needs. I also genuinely believe my cat would have been better off if someone in that room had suggested he be put to sleep then, especially when I broached the topic myself, because he was not in a state where he was likely survive the trip home. But even that I understand. The average pet owner is looking to extend their animals life at all costs. My take was I would rather him die somewhere safe and being cared for (by me, I wanted to be present during the procedure) and not scared out of his mind in a carrier while I tried to drive home fast enough to hold him before he was gone. It was all incredibly unfortunate, and I believe it could have been handled better on behalf of the staff as I waited for the vet, and by the vet when it was clear he was not doing well. That is the only reason I leave a middling review, because I do think people (including the staff) should know and make decisions based on this. I hope nothing came across as personal or bitter, that is not my intention at all. Everyone dies, I do not blame the staff or vet for Samwise passing, only some questionable behavior and decisions during my initial visit. read more

This was my first visit here and I was more than happy! I was greeted with a friendly hello. My dog has been having seizures and we were going to a more local vet. I was not happy with her care at all. Dr. Sara Nielsen is a good friend of my son and daughter in laws and I have enjoyed her on a social level, so even tho she is over an hour from my house, I took my pup to her. She was very straight forward and gave me the options in going forward. I felt heard and that she understood my concerns. I have found our new vet! read more

I love this vet. Everybody who works here is very knowledgeable and friendly. My dog isn't great with other people or dogs but they have always treated her so kind and with love. We used to live 5 minutes from this vet and now we have moved about 30-40 minutes away but we decided to keep going to this vet because of how amazing it is. I just have to take a minute to give a shout out to this place. We moved to Auburn 2 years ago and needed a vet for our 3 dogs and cat. Two of the dogs are seniors and both have some issues. We were so happy to find Auburn Pet Clinic and Dr. McKinnon! She is great, practical and very reasonably priced. She never pushes unnecessary treatments. She just did a dental and surgery to remove some large masses from one of our senior dogs on Thursday. Ashley was the staff member that helped us throughout the whole day and called the next day to check how Coco was doing. She was truly amazing, kept us posted as to what was going on, gave clear instructions about meds etc. She is definitely an asset to the clinic. The rest of the staff is wonderful also. They always take care of what we need quickly and efficiently. read more

Absolutely amazing! I have had my Chihuahua 10 years and have been to several different vets throughout the years. Dr. Rice is undeniably my favorite. The place appears humble from the outside...but don't let that fool you. Clean, organized and friendly all the way! Not only is he more afforadable than any other vet I have been to...but he is more sincere and actually cares about the well being of your pet. He is not just out to make a buck. He does not preform unneccessary tests and always offers a reasonable price. He gives honest advise and talks to you like a friend, as oppose to just a business he is running. Dr. Rice saved our beautiful Remington! She had a large tumor on her leg, but because of money, we waited to take her in. He told us he was glad we finally did because it was crucial for her livelihood. It was so large that he wasn't sure if it would heal properly, but it did and now our 10 year old lab is better than ever! It does not cost an arm and a leg either! He truly cares about the animals he sees, not just your money! I could not thank him enough for being so kind and helpful! I would recommend this clinic to everyone! read more

It's 9 years (!) since my original review and I still use Dr. Rice's clinic and it is still the best. He is sort of retired now (tho apparently comes in all the time) but has excellent replacement vets. We have a new-to-us cat (who ran away from home, our neighbor, and adopted us) who is now getting older and having issues - they were great with him. Note parking is cramped there, often best to park on the street if you can. read more

I found this clinic on yelp after my vet closed his practice. I chose it due to good Yelp reviews and close proximity to my home. Brought my dog "JJ" for routine vaccines and annual care on a Saturday morning with an appointment. The lobby was closed due to Covid 19 and we knew this up front, so we parked outside. The young lady who came out and greeted us took down all the info about JJ and answered various questions we had quite thoroughly. she was very professional and knowledgeable. I told her my concerns and needs and she wrote it all down. She took JJ inside and the doctor, Dr Neilson, did the exam and all vaccines and treatments we asked for. They brought JJ back out and Dr. Neilson came too and discussed his health, treatments and concerns. We were very pleased with the care JJ got at Auburn Animal Clinic and I'm satisfied to say we found our new vet! Yay! So far so good! She has been by my side in the happiest as well as most devastating moments where my pets are concerned. Dr MacKinnon is the best vet ever! We had seen several vets over the past 20 years at the large area emergency vet clinic. Dr MacKinnon was by far the best! We were so excited to hear she now has her own practice. We no longer have to go to the corporately run overpriced vet mill that use to be our caring vet clinic ( they sold to VCA). Fortunately, with this change the really good vets left and Voila! We can now see our favorite vet in her own office in Auburn. She is extremely competent, caring and keeps costs as reasonable as possible. She will give you the full story and all your options so you can make informed decisions about your pet's care. Dr. MacKinnon is absolutely wonderful. Very caring and understanding. Went from large practice to APC and don't regret it.

We brought our crazy lab mix Chuk in as he, unbeknownst to us, had a bulging disc and muscle spasms. He was in a lot of pain and hiding its source well. We thought it was a shoulder issue possibly. We also worried he had been bitten by something, poisoned maybe as he was lethargic...we had no idea and expected this to be a horrendous bill or that we'd have to put him down. Dr. McKinnon was awesome. She noted our concerns, watched Chuk and asked us questions. She was able to determine he had a bulging disc and was in a lot of pain, which was indicative to the muscle spasms he was experiencing. She prescribed him some meds, rest, and we were out of there with a very reasonable bill and a doped up pup. It was actually pretty cool to watch her in action as she went from questions to examination, pulling at him, stretching him and she figured it out. About four weeks later he is back to normal...which means he's back to crazy. To me, its crazy how she figured it out with the information we gave her. We love her! read more

I brought my pup Bella here earlier this year, and Dr. Rice is great. Bella is always very nervous in vet offices, but Dr. Rice was very gentle, and calmed her nerves. He is also very knowledgeable and answered all my questions thoroughly. The front office is very helpful as well, faxing me records (I don't live in Auburn anymore) when needed. read more

We have been seeing Dr. Mackinnon for a few months for regular vaccines and care for our Sheltie which has been nothing short of fantastic, and recently she was attacked by two other dogs and had extensive bite wounds that required emergency stitches. It was one of the busiest days at the clinic but they made sure we were seen and got our girl treated very quickly despite the booked schedule.
