I went in for a visit with our new puppy. I agreed to some things and declined some others. At each step the fear mongering was layed on pretty hard. This was not done with conversations about facts, but with statements lacking nuance and assuming that all people who are not vets are idiots. This veterinarian may not be for you if you believe in species appropriate diets, spacing out vaccines, using titer testing, or any attempt to engage in dialogue that goes against their beliefs. I was treated like I might lick my uncleaned counter after prepping raw meats or like I might lick my fingers after picking up dog poo in my yard. On the positives, they do have good weekend availability, fairly reasonable pricing and if you are 100% on board with Western Vet medicine without need for intuition or nutritional approaches, then you will like most of them. There are some truly great people at this vet clinic & not every experience has been negative. My review is based on their unwillingness to have the pet owner be a part of the process and to not being open to dialogue about different approaches to nutrition & care options. read more

We took our sweet heart- Shetland Sheepdog to them on a Monday - he was bleeding profusely from his nostrils. He had started bleeding on Sunday - and we could not find an emergency vet open that had available appointments - but ended up at the one in Shingle Springs - DO NOT USE THEM. It was a horrible experience with them. They took him away from us - and would not let us stay with him and put him in a cage in the back room for over an hour. They even wanted to anesthetize our boy Elgin to get x-rays of his sinus and chest. They did not seem to care that he was a senior - 13 yrs. almost - and doing that would have killed him on the table. They even had the nerve to bring us the 'orders form to sign' which had that they were going to go ahead and anesthetize him anyway - if I had not caught that on the 'form tablet' before I signed - he would have been killed at that clinic. He turned out to have an oversized heart - and a 'dark mass' in his chest. The bill was around $800 for that one visit. The doctor wanted us to go to Loomis Basin Clinic and have a CT done on him the next day - what a stupid vet - they have to anesthetize to do a CT. Do NOT use that vet!!!! The next day - Monday - we called around and found that Companion Vet Clinic had an opening to see Elgin. When we got there he had started bleeding profusely from his nostrils again. BUT, they put us in a room WITH HIM. The vet tech came in and turned out she used to be the x-ray tech at Loomis Basin and did the CT's for this type of condition - probably tumor (cancer) of the sinus. She said that he would not have made it through the CT - age and the end results would have ended his life. Furthermore, she told us that that procedure (even on younger dogs) is brutal and does not end well - most can't recover or even tolerate the surgery (which would be after the CT). SO, we let our boy Cross The Rainbow Bridge with the help of the staff at Companion Vet. THEY ARE THE BEST PEOPLE WHO REALLY CARE DEEPLY ABOUT YOUR BELOVED PETS. Highly recommend them. And we found out they are open - emergency hours - on the weekend. They made the arrangements for cremation and everyone signed a beautiful card to us about our boy Elgin. So. Companion Vet Clinic is the place to go! It is so hard to find a trustworthy vet clinic that won't take advantage and I can wholeheartedly say this is the place to come. I took my sweet Golden of 11 years when her health started to decline. Right off the bat they were extremely friendly and I know my girl was taken good care of because when I came back to pick her up after her first appt, she didn't want to leave! She loved the staff. This vet clinic is a 2 hour drive from me, and it was well worth each and every mile. They kept in touch with me, and helped me to get a referral to UC Davis Vet Oncology so that my Golden could get seen much faster than weeks out. They gave me detailed instructions on all the various medications I was prescribed for my pupper & kept me well updated on all results from labs & whatnot. I unfortunately lost my baby girl to cancer, but they sent me a very sweet sympathy card with all the staff's signatures as well as a Christmas card. I am absolutely disgusted! My dog had been vomiting so we suspect an obstruction. We were quoted $853. Urgent care visit of $61 and another urgent care fee of $89 because it's a weekend! I'm sorry but if you're already open for business on a weekend, you don't get to charge a seperate fee. What happened to vets that actually gave a shit about the animals? I used to work for one. Unfortunately I moved away and taking my dog there isn't feasible. X-rays are expensive and I get that but to be charged $135 for a radiologist to read them and $165 to sedate her because she's nervous? No! We're looking for an obstruction not a hairline fracture! I started bringing my beautiful dog Frank here when he was just a little guy to get him used to the idea that the vet was a good place to go. The ladies would give him treats and pet him and he loved it. I did eventually need care for him these past couple of months and brought him here last night to let him go. It has been nearly two weeks since my dog was attacked and killed. Karen and staff were not involved in the emergency, but I want to thank the WHOLE staff of these loving women for the care they gave Geo for 5 years prior. He loved to go there and it was obvious they loved him. He spent the nights so we could have date nights. The outpouring of love and support with Geos' death was amazing, including cards, flowers and hugs. This comment is for the leader of the clinic. I have been your loyal client for over 9 years, recently my dog needs carprofen to easy her pain. On the initial invoice, you charged me $1.55 per pill and I found Chewy is cheaper and ask Chewy to call your clinic and you clinic replied no such client which I believe you clinic's policy to refuse your client to find cheaper opportunity because I have a unique last name with a not so popular dog's name, when I called your clinic, you found me right the way and how come when Chewy called with no such luck. I have to spent the next two days to deal with your clinic and purchase 3 pills to easy my dog's suffering at $7.50 per pill. Finally I got a prescription from you clinic only allowed to buy 30 pills elsewhere with no refill! How greedy policy of your clinic! Best veterinary experience we have ever had!! Amazing staff and veteranarians who make you and your pets feel welcomed and comfortable. We have 5 cats and a dog, and they have made the experience of getting them all in for vaccines and check-ups so easy and wonderful. They let the cats explore in their check-up room, which makes them so much more comfortable, and they even cleaned our cat carrier when one of the cats pooped on the way there, and made it seem like no big deal! I have had the worst experience with my dog at Companion. I wish that staff had been honest with the owner of Companion when questioned about the treatment or lack of, with my pet. Please do not allow a particular vet tech to handle your animal. I have incurred numerous vet bills (I left Companion) due to the inadequate care of my dog. I have taken my dogs and cats to companion Veterinary Clinic for 15 years. They have always taken great care of them and treated us with respect. I am very happy that Dr. Karen took over the clinic now. She is such a caring person and great with our animals. One of our dogs is not very trusting of strangers so Karen and her staff take the time to sit down on the floor next to her and give her treats and build trust before they proceed with exams, shots, etc.. My senior dog is currently hiding in a corner next to me following a visit to Companion Veterinary Clinic, expressing pain, bleeding, and clearly unhappy-- following a NAIL TRIM. Unsure how they could have so much trouble with a simple job I have done elsewhere (at a few different clinics) every few weeks, but they were uninterested in trying to help her. Our dogs were attacked by a mountain lion, they were very compassionate, helpful, took all the necessary steps to care for our dog ~ even thou it was closing time on a Saturday! I called for a quote on an X-ray, Jessica quoted $75 for 1 view and stated that I didn't need a vet exam unless I chose to have one after viewing the X-ray. My husband arrived with our girl and the first thing Virgina informed him of was that it was actually going to be 3X the price they quoted over the phone. Obviously she knew we were quoted $75 or that wouldn't have been her opening statement to him! They didn't honor the price quoted and were extremely rude! Amazing staff. Unfortunately the first time we used them was to put down our Dalmation right after moving to town. We hadn't chose a veterinarian to use yet but they were close to our home. Got us right in and gave us a straightforward yet compassionate evaluation. The dr was extremely caring and explained the whole process to us. Allowed us to stay with Theo as long as we needed even though they probably needed the exam room for other patients. Arranged for cremation and very sensitive to our needs. Horrible clinic. We took our 7 year old chihuahua/terrier to see Dr Karen on June 8th He had loose teeth in front lower incisors. They took him in at about 11:00am. We returned at 2:00 he still had not been examined so with covid quarantine we waited in the car until almost 3:00. The vet tech brought him back to the car and explained DR Karen Kelentos was busy and she would call us and told us to go home, she would call with her findings and recommendations for treatment. We waited all afternoon and evening, no call The following day I called at 8 am and was told she was not in the office and she would call when she came to the clinic. Still no call , hoping she would call durning her break, lunch or after seeing her patients we waited. Now this is a day later and it's 5:00 pm. I called the office again and was told she was still busy. I explained we had paid for a service their exam visit and haven't heard from the dr. The office staff is beyond rude arrogant unprofessional and disrespectful. Saying their not a 24 hour clinic and we should not ever expect to get a call back after she's done seeing patients in the evening or in the morning or during lunch. The dr Karen has never called us with her summary. I'm not even sure if she actually saw our dog. We paid for the consultation and exam and were not contacted. Because of covid they are taking advantage and not seeing these animals. We were not allowed in and she never called us but we paid. It's now more than 30 hours since Boes visit to her and still mom and dad have heard from the dr regarding the visit. STAY AWAY FROM THIS VET!!! They stole our money and did nothing. Have no idea what wrong with his mouth or what needs to be done. He could have cancer First thing out of the receptionist mouth is owners don't need to be here for us to to see the patients. I was already Leary. What an open opportunity to make money and do nothing I thought. Exactly how it rolled. Very disappointed. WONDERFUL, WONDERFUL, DOC KAREN AND STAFF (and Loomis Basin's DR. BRYK AND STAFF)!!! Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts for helping Molly when she desperately needed you. Our Molly started her day as usual... eating, sleeping and playing. (Molly is a 3 year-old Flat-Coated Retriever that we rescued at two years of age). When she started letting me know something was wrong with her, I felt her stomach and it was huge!! We rushed her to the Companion Vet Clinic right away and they immediately and correctly diagnosed her condition (food bloat) and gave her back her life by sedating her and loading her up with fluids; they strongly recommended we take her to Loomis Basin since Companion Vets is not staffed overnight. When dogs get food bloat it is literally a life and death situation. We listened to Molly, and to Karen and her staff, and Loomis Basin's Dr. Bryk and staff - they're the reason we have Molly back home with us, safe and well. She would have died in our home that first night, had we decided to keep her home and try to nurse her ourselves without the benefits of IV fluids. We've had a longterm relationship with Companion Veterinary for the last 13 years. With 2 indoor cats that eventually had to be put down because of old age (21 years) and the care of our border collie mix dog, they have seen us through it all. I highly recommend them. They love my pets as if they were their own. It helps me make important health care decisions about my pet when I know what they are suggesting is best for my pet. I cannot afford continuing to pay their high price. This year I had the same procedure done elsewhere and it cost less than half the price I paid at Companion Vet. Our Malinois recently broke her ankle and the vet we were going to gave us a quote for surgery to repair it and no other options. When my husband and I told her we needed to think about it she made us feel terrible for not jumping at the costly investment even though there was no guarantee of full or partial recovery. I turned to Yelp to find a vet to get a second opinion and decided to give Companion Vet a try. My husband and I were very impressed. Dr. Karen and her staff were very professional, empathetic and sincere about all of the options available to us for our pup. They were very prompt about getting back to us in regards to a quote for our options and to schedule a consult with the surgeon they use. After that we also received a phone call letting us know that Dr. Karen was willing to work with us in regards to a payment plan for the costly surgery if finances were a factor between choosing repair versus amputation.
