Just walked out of the store because of all the live animals they have for sale. All these sweet little white mice that I'm sure our feet are mice living in extremely crowded conditions. Same with rats ferrets for sale. Rabbits for sale in small cages they have two kittens for adoption from a local Humane Society. Everything else is for sale and that's just disgusting. I bought 2 bags of Maurzi rat and mouse food for my ethical hamstery. Both bags were invested with thousands of baby pincher beetles. I call and eventually talked to the own after emailing videos and not hearing back. Dale Bowman said that he would replace the food, but ultimately when I called to pick up replacements the store didn't know about the arrangement and he didn't respond to my emails. I am a hobby breeder and I don't make money breeding and can't afford to pay for food my hamsters can't eat. I made this clear and it just didn't matter. I have videos of the bugs, but can't attach them to this review. If you have another source I would avoid this feed store. read more

This is the only place I know who doesn't put the pet food in a bowl. They mix it all up with the rest of the litter. And there's many not even a handful of pelets for them. The ferret they have there has zero interaction with humans, he bites a bit to hard due to them not having a chew toy in the cage for him. The bunnies are kept in show cages, at least PetSmart have them in a cage with room to jump around a bit more. I hate having to drive an hour to get my pet food here, it's the only place that sells the type my rats like. The workers are rude, not even treating you at the door. One of the rats is so poorly taken care of that she is losing her food and is housed with a pregnant rat. They claim to check the rats everyday but that's not the case with how big her stomach is getting. Not a fan of this place! read more

The staff seems to be a bunch of incompetent high school/college kids who just want some fast cash, but I do like their selection and variety for my pet rabbit. The prices are also more reasonable compared to the other local retailers. Would be a 5, but the staff have never been helpful. read more

This is a favorite stop for my three year old. He loves to check out the baby chicks and ducklings in the spring. We look at all of the wonderful pets! I've purchased several bags of duck food here, it's pretty cheap. read more

Never again. I don't know if you guys know the massive Diamond Food recall, but a lot of pet foods were included. I went to go return it, but because the one kind wasn't on the list, she wouldn't return it! I told her basically that I don't want it, and I'm not feeding it to my animals, and that Diamond sent a letter out saying that they are excepting all different food returns. I had to throw a fit to get the money back, and now I'm stuck with a gift card because they wouldn't give me cash!!!! I'm sorry, but if you really cared about animals, you would have gladly accepted the return. read more

We recently moved to Westminster and on accident i found Bowmans Feed & Pets, i had to stop because they had such cute dog houses outside-i walked in and they had all kinds of cute animals in there from chickens,ducks,rabbits to reptiles. I usually get my dog food only from Petco(couldn't find it anywhere else) but Bowmans has it too and even cheaper only by like 5 dollars but if you already buy expensive premium dog food i'm happy about every penny i can save. The also have all this great dog treats for really cheap and everything else you need for dogs,farm animals,reptiles and wildlife! They do close early on the weekends what i don't like,wish they would open a little longer. read more

I'm new to this area, and unfortunately didn't know of this store until after I ordered chicks online, only to have 2 out of 10 survive. I needed to rebuild my little flock, so a friend recommended I go here. There were a large variety of different breeds of chicks, and I was given a list of more that would be coming in, with the dates they would be available. A young lady named Cameron helped me choose what breeds to get, and gave me some tips and advice about raising them when I told her I've never had chickens before. She was so sweet, and made my experience at the store delightful. I ended up getting a mixed flock, 2 of each of 4 different breeds, and they are all healthy and spunky. I am so glad my friend told me to go here, and wish I'd have known about it sooner! read more

Helpful, friendly staff. Repeat Buyers programs (even on hamster bedding...) We love visiting the critters (adorable bunnies,guinea pigs,ferrets...) The spring chicks are a spectacle!! They even had hermit crab supplies the "national" Pet Store didn't!! Frequent special events & offerings truly reflect the local community. Even though we aren't bigger farm customers, we are always made to feel welcome. Staff is knowledgeable & always willing to help, including carrying purchases to load in the van. They may not have the widest selection in town,but everything they carry is high quality, & guaranteed. "If your dog doesn't like it,just bring it back" is one phrase I never heard at a big box store! We always check Bowman's first, & they haven't let us down yet. read more

I was happy to discover that this local mom-and-pop sells California Natural, which is a very hard-to-find brand of dog food, and the grain free variety too. They will also order any flavor you'd like, with a week's notice. They carry a lot of stuff you won't find at Petco or PetSmart, and in spite of being a mom-and-pop outfit, they are usually less expensive. If you live in Carroll County, you can buy your dog licenses here, which you also can't do at the big chain stores. I can't speak to the chicken/horse/livestock care/feed part of the business, as I'm not a farmer, and wouldn't have anything else to compare it to. I will definitely continue to support this local small business. read more

Don't listen to the bad reviews! There's always two sides of the story. This store has been around all my life, I even remember before they built the new building. As a kid I would come here with my mom to get feed for our animals. The store is very cozy, well stocked, and their staff has always been pleasant and very helpful. It's nice to have a store like this in Westminster, where you can come get pet food and also see a bunch of chickens, ducks, and other pets. I can't imagine Bowman's not being around, I hope they continue to grow and remain successful. read more

I would suggest if you want pellets go somewhere else. I purchased 15 bags of pellets for my pellet stove and have used 3 bags so far. The bags had obviously been exposed to an excessive amount of moisture because the top 25% of the pellets in the bag had turned to mush. Since I hauled the pellets home myself and carried them down 12 steps to the basement I'm just going to use what I can and toss the rest. Lesson learned. read more

I typically go here to buy for my ferrets, cats, and outdoor birds. I always spend at least $100, even though they are typically rude and unhelpful. Tonight, I stopped in for 3 items that I didn't grab last time. I knew exactly where the items were and they cost a little over $80 combined. I guess they were mad that I walked in 6 minutes before closing time, but I could have grabbed my items and been checked out before they closed.... guess they wanted to get home early. No one greeted me and, in fact, they TURNED OFF THE LIGHTS when I got to the aisle I needed. I had already grabbed one of the three items, but I put it back and left. I will buy from petco or chewy.com if they can't even keep the lights on until closing time. That behavior is not only beyond rude, it's risky. If I had tripped on one of the many items they have sitting around- I would have sued. Don't give them business. They don't care about their customers at all. read more

This is actually for Bowman's Home and Garden Center but I can't find it listed separately? I don't know about their pet store part but I LOVE they garden center. I went there after Home Depot and was very glad I did! All of their plants are so much healthier and more reasonably priced and they aren't planted in those horrible nasty peat pots. I was also able to buy a cheap bale of straw at about $5 to throw over where I re-seeded my lawn and they even loaded it into the car for me. My only complaint is that they didn't have the Tumbling Tom tomatoe or any for a hanging basket which is what I was looking for, but everything else more than made up for that. I ended up buying a different kind for a pot that was recommended to me. read more

I called to tell them that the girl sold me the wrong kind of feed that I asked for and all the kid on the phone said was "everyone makes mistakes" I live 40 min away from their store and now have to waste my gas both ways to return it. The girl who waited on me needs extensive training. She assured me 3 different times this was the feed I wanted. I even showed her a picture of the bag. read more

Bowman's had been our go-to store for 2 decades. This store is a gem that offers a variety of products for pets as well as livestock, from dogs to ducks, they carry it all. Take the kids and go in the spring when the chicks and ducklings are in - - of course, you might end up taking a few home! If you're a birder, you're going to love this store. All kinds of feeders and feeds, houses and birdbaths. Of course, they have everything for dogs and cats, from food to snacks, toys, collars and leashes as well as Christmas attire. Don't miss the room off of the main store - from hamsters, guinea pigs, rabbits, and slithery things as well as food and cages - it's all there. Questions? I go once a week to get Mice and crickets. It's the only place in the area I can get reptile food. There staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. Not to mention quite beautiful. Even when it comes to the product they sell they're cheaper then the bigger pet stores around which makes them a great company with a good business sense. read more

Horrible store. I bought a baby hamster from them and she died two weeks later from wet tail, after seeing the vet and being on medication. Called the store and they did not care in the least. Poor customer service on their part! They also do not provide vet care if one of their small rodents get sick. Zero stars if I could! read more

Bowmans Feed and Pet has just lost customers. I went into their store recently to get feed (which is overpriced compared to some other feed suppliers) and tried to spread some goodwill and Christmas cheer which is badly needed in this world, by giving the two ladies working at the checkout each a handcrafted Blessings bracelet for free. I was not pushing religion or anything else but just trying to do something nice for someone. After explaining what I was trying to do and while offering my gift, both had a sourpuss expression on their faces, took the bracelets and threw them into the trash under their counter. If they did not want them or could not take them then a simple and polite "thank you but no thank you, or a we cannot accept them" would have been acceptable. They need to remove the broomsticks from their asses and realize that there are some people who are trying to make the world a better place. They've earned the Scooge and Grinch award most definitely and have no heart, kindness or appreciation for customers who were trying to show them some goodwill. read more

I have depended on Bowman's for decades, buying feed and supplies for dogs, cats, horses, turkeys, chickens, goats, cattle, hamsters, birds, wildlife, and probably a few I can't remember. The service has always been exceptional. I see a few other reviews citing so-called bad experiences, and it seems like some folks aren't very realistic. I support this local business with my dollars because it has proven to be reliable, and I am treated like a valued customer when I go there. Bowman's carries such a fine variety of animal merchandise and feeds that I have only once visited the chain pet stores in Westminster and then only out of curiosity. Bowman's is a partner with the local community in many ways, and those of us who farm in Carroll County truly appreciate them--they are ready to furnish the needs of the owners of a single pet all the way to large farms. read more

Buyers beware- I recently purchased a kaytee come along pet carrier- Really cute- Well since its for small animals you would think that it would be water proof. Well needless to say one time my small rat went to the bathroom in it. It stained the outside as well as leaked. I was upset and figuring it was just a flaw in the product I thought nothing of it deciding I would return it to get a refund. I went in to explain what happened having my receipt in hand. The cashier was pleasant and said that he would have to ask who i assumed to be the manager if the place. She said she needed the tags. I asked why since I bought a defective product and just wanted to return it. She was very brief and said they don't take back damaged products. No im sorry or even a coupon for my next visit. Working a customer service job i didn't throw a stink. I will not buy from a store that can't at least be polite to a paying customer. In fact the only person that actually looked like he was actually sorry that they couldn't do anything was the guy who was trying to help me. He apologized. It was frustrating and left a bad taste in my mouth. Don't be fooled they do have a way to return it the "manager" didn't want to go through the trouble to lose the money (they can damage things out and send them back to the company). I will not shop there again. Small business or not I would assume they would want to keep people coming back. read more
