I went in with high expectations based on previous reviews of the food, but unfortunately, the experience did not live up to them. The side of hash browns were frozen patties that can easily be purchased at any supermarket, and the "creamed chipped beef" was actually made with ham rather than beef. For the prices charged, the quality was disappointing. I ordered the Country Mix, which was quite tasty, but one good meal out of three is not enough for us to return. This is our second visit to this lovely little diner. You know you're in the right place when you arrive at 7:45 am and the parking lot is packed. This is where the locals eat. The service was excellent, the waitress very friendly and helpful, and the food was great. Our coffee was refilled at least 4 times while we were here. My wife ordered an omelette and I ordered eggs, and our order arrived in less than 10 minutes. Total bill, including coffee and tax, was 15.75. At the diner we visit near where we live, it would have been twice that much. I don't understand the negative reviews... maybe a disgruntled former employee???? I have been here a few times in the past, and thought it was a very good place for good food and prices, until last evening. First, the prices are way to high. I ordered the black diamond steak, medium rare. It came out on a plate, -best way to describe - a hunk of meat. I cut into it and it was raw. Sent it back. Comes out again, same thing, not even warm. Finally on the third time it was done OK however it was now tough. I went to pay my bill and no one came over to take my money so I took the bill and the money and placed it under something at the cashiers stand and left. I will never go back. We were traveling through during breakfast hours and this place looked great. Even though it was busy with a line there was plenty of parking near the restaurant or on the side streets. The hostess said it would be awhile and then we were seated in less than 5 minutes. I thought their breakfast pricing was crazy cheap: $5-$7 for most meal options. Our waitress was amazing and she said the kitchen was backed up. Then our food arrived 60 seconds later - super quick. The homefries were fresh real potatoes (not frozen), the ham was great and the house sausage was excellent. Our waitress kept the coffee coming and a member of our party ordered fresh cut fries which were also delicious. There were six of us and our bill was $45. The food had the quality of Prison food! Their Marinara sauce is Ketchup! I ordered veal but I really was not able to identify what the meat was! French fries were not only cold but raw. The prices reflect that of a restaurant that makes and serves quality food! This is not that kind of a place ! I'm not sure what the dinner rolls were but they were far below Brown & Serve that you buy at Walmart for $.99 cents ! In short there was nothing good about this place. I am very disappointed with my recent experience at this establishment. The service was unacceptably poor -- inattentive, unprofessional, and lacking even basic courtesy. More troubling, I observed behavior from staff that was racially insensitive, which is deeply concerning and entirely unacceptable in any business, let alone one that serves the public. My family and I ate hear this evening for dinner. We are locals and switch things up. The food is always good and it's homemade. The problem is the pricing is ridiculous! Now I know the price everywhere has gone up. But this is a diner and for what we got should not have cost us almost $80. Some things on the menu have pricing, so between my husband, son and I. Just for the meal that had the pricing listed on the menu was $32. Between 4 drinks, a cup of soup, 1 slice of cake and my daughter's side of breakfast ham and side of corn made the rest of my bill. Decent service, but drive the extra few miles to the next town for breakfast instead! This Diner is a typical country road small town diner. We were looking for something simple and quick so we decided to give it a try. The food while decent, wasn't worth the price, especially when compared to many other places I've been to. The servers were friendly but seemed uninterested in actually helping us or tending to us. The clientele was filled with mostly senior citizens which if you look any different than the average small town guy, will stare at you like you have two heads. Just not a pleasant experience. Tip is always requested for takeout orders along with surprise pricing. I have given this place a few chances, but it is not worth it with the service provided. We stopped here after hiking nearby at the Lehigh Gap trail, and the Bowmanstown diner definitely hit the spot. Seating was available outside in a large covered tent or inside the diner. We decided to sit outside and were promptly seated, the waitress came over and took our beverage order. The diner had several specials that night, I ordered the meatloaf with mac and cheese and fresh cut fries. The meatloaf was very good and flavorful, the mac and cheese was lukewarm, the way it came out made me think it was from a pouch. this was absolutely the worst experience I have ever had. God forbid your two year old doesn't use the high chair they provide. Both female owners were at the register and the heavier one said to the other one "and this one, had to have the f**king high chair and didn't even use it" while looking at me. I saw everything she said about my family. Lots of gravy, but the dish itself had little to no flavor; meat was a bit dry. French fries were great and hot though - as they should be in a diner! And the milkshakes were also of diner quality. Poor options for those who are gluten free/vegetarian. My friend ordered the cucumber salad and it was just sliced cucumbers in mayo. This is the best diner in the Lehighton area. When traveling through the area several times a year, I make this diner a planned stop. The atmosphere is welcoming and friendly with ample parking and very clean tables, service areas, and restrooms. Although this great "locals" spot is open 24 hours, I have only stopped for evening meals ... and always because I'm in the mood for "home cooked" meals. I can count on very good service, reasonable prices, very good portions, and - best of all - home-style cooking! I've enjoyed the smoked pork chop, sliced London broil, hot open-face sandwiches, soups, and really good sides. The desserts I have ordered never made it home in one piece! Just off of route 248 as you're headed from the Lehigh Valley area up to coal country is Bowmanstown and its diner. They advertise having "good Pennsylvania Dutch cooking." I can't attest to that since I've only eaten breakfast food here. Everything I've had there is cooked to order, to my specifications (like, eggs over easy, bacon well-done, etc.) and the waitstaff is really friendly. There's a wide selection of good lookin' diner pies and cakes in the dessert case. It's one of the only places I know of that serves RC Cola from the fountain machine! read more

They do not accept credit or debit cards, only cash and check but they do have an ATM inside which charges 2.50 (and then don't forget the other charge from your bank.) Our server was very nice. The only reason I gave 3 stars is because when they served us dinner rolls they were not warm which is no biggie but don't give me individual little butters where there is one already opened and empty. It just seems that they do not inspect what they have before giving it to customers. My fiancé had ordered a smoked pork chop which had an interesting taste..it tasted exactly like a ham steak rather than a pork chop and was pink like a ham steak but had a pork chop bone on it. They do NOT accept cards so you have forced to use their ATM machine that charges $2.50 and your own bank will charge $3. So to use the ATM machine you can add $5.50 to your bill. That is a complete rip off. For me to eat by myself my bill is usually $10. To use a debit card costs a merchant a flat $0.50 fee or to use a credit card 1.45%. Why not just add a $1 fee to use plastic? I'd be fine with that. If I eat with a friend and the bill is $21 then I have to take out $40 from the ATM. I would eat here several times per week BUT because I rarely have cash on me, I only come once a week. So to save $0.50 the restaurant is losing $10 on me times 2-3x per week. They are cutting off their nose to spite their face. The line of customers at the ATM were all complaining. Food is good. It's good old fashion diner food. Service is always with a smile. read more

My double hamburger was perfect, juicy and hot off the grill. My wife was just as pleased with the bacon burger. The fries were hot, yummy, and looked fresh-cut as the menu said. Also loved the onion rings. For my wife, the real test of a diner is when she orders a chocolate milkshake, "as chocolate as you can make it!" The Bowmanstown diner was up to the task.
