Doctor was knowledgeable and good. Office staff made this a 1star experience. They filed the claim incorrectly and it was denied by insurance. Went back and forth many times and we ended up just paying out of pocket. The doctor office was unwilling to help and sent our bill to pre-collection agency while we were trying to appeal the insurance issue. Big headache and we will never come back. Dr. Von Thiel is amazing and a miracle worker, he very literally changed my son's (and our) lives. My son was suffering from asthma and we were not able to get it under control. My son was using a nebulizer multiple times a day and waking up almost every night because he couldn't breathe. We went to the ER several times, including one Christmas overnight, because of severe asthma flare ups. Our regular pediatrician even suggested we re-home our pets. We saw Dr. Von Thiel and within a few days my son's breathing problems were completely gone. It turned out he was basically allergic to everything. I credit Dr. Von Thiel for helping my son just be a little boy again who can run and play and participate in sports without having to take a break to catch his breath or take a puff from his inhaler. We were recommended to another allergist who forgot to test her for some allergens we told her we thought our daughter had allergic reactions to and the whole office had a frenetic, unpleasant energy. This office and doctor is very different. Dr. Von Tiehl took time to explain everything to us and actually tested my kid for what I wanted to test her for. We also did a food challenge with them to determine with more finality whether she had a food allergy, she ended up not having that one at least! Dr. Von Tiehl has made a bunch of reasonable recommendations for our family to mitigate all of our allergies including lotions and pillow covers, which have been helping all of us. At the same time my kid was having allergies, I was experiencing skin allergies worse than I had ever had. Dr. Von Tiehl helped me figure out what in my skin care regime was causing my outbreaks and suggested alternatives and my friends have commented my skin is much improved. read more

The doctor and nurses are great. But they need to hire professional receptionist and office assistants. While waiting for my bill, I was out the country for a trip. As I came back to home to get my mails, my family member told me the clinic reached out to them regarding my medical bill, because I left them as my Emergency contact. The clinic kept saying "remember that day you came with her blah blah blah ...". First, it created a lot of confusions, my family member thought it was scam. Second, it violated patients privacy, they have no right of telling other people about ANY patients business. I believe the meaning of emergency contact does not include billing. It can only discuss it with the patient, or the patient's designated agent for billing such as a power of attorney or legal counsel. Anyway, as soon as I came back, I had took care of it. There was no website whatsoever on the Bill. You can only pay by phone or other outdated ways. read more

I've been coming to Bowtie Allergy for quite a few years now. I remember coming in because my allergies were just ridiculous, and nothing seemed to work. I tried every single allergy pill and never noticed a difference with any of them. Nasal sprays were a waste of money. Nasal rinses seemed to work....for about 5 seconds, and then it was back to the usual. I used to carry a bunch of the travel-sized tissue packs because it was inevitable that I'd use a couple throughout the day to no avail. I work in healthcare and I can recall shifts were I went through an entire tissue box by the 8 hour mark. A TISSUE BOX. Dr. Von Tiehl has been nothing short of a miracle worker, and I can't emphasize that enough. I've had a lifetime struggle with allergies and it took him very little time to figure out what exactly I was allergic to, and to come up with a treatment plan to help me find permanent relief. I used to be convinced I was just stuck with crippling allergies for life. He showed me that it didn't have to be that way. Called to setup my first appointment. When I asked them if they take Blue Shield PPO. They told me to call my insurance to find out myself. I was a bit shocked. Verifying insurance has always been the responsibility of the office staff. I know this cause I was in healthcare staffing for 10+ years - specifically for Front Office Medical Receptionist/Medical Assistants. I'm not sure what's going on but people seem to not want to do their jobs anymore. This place changed my LIFE. I don't say that lightly but they truly have improved and continue to improve my life long battle w allergies, asthma and eczema. I was referred to this office by my insurance and read a few reviews on here before I planned my initial visit. Once I met Dr. Von Tiehl, I knew he was different from the hundreds of doctors I have seen about my condition(s). I was desperate because my eczema and allergy flare ups were out of control. For context, I have always been on topical steroids since my teenager years to manage my atopic dermatitis AND before I saw Von Tiehl, I was convinced that I had every food allergy under the sun including dairy, gluten, etc. so my diet was bland and yet, I was still in a constant struggle of flare ups and trips to urgent care followed by prednisone and more meds. Despite all the things I believe I was doing "right," I was in a constant state of discomfort, my skin was always broken out and flared up including my facial skin. To say my confidence was in the garbage is an understatement. However, when I met Von Tiehl, he empathized and did not try to rush off to the next patient, he asked thoughtful but sensitive questions to understand my struggles which I can honestly say, I have NEVER received that type of care before. What really stood out to me (and I'll never forget) is how he shared his struggles w me and the fact that he could relate was a game changer and I felt a sense of ease / trust that again, I never HAD experienced before w any holistic or western doctor and trust me, I have seen HUNDREDS. After that initial visit, I received both environmental and food allergy testing and discovered to my shock, that I only have a few nut (food) allergies (not dairy, gluten etc.). I could finally enjoy the meals and snacks I missed for over a decade again and I know that may seem minor but it was HUGE for me. He gave me a concise list of the allergies I did have and the list was not short. Most of my triggers are environmental and I have made some major changes to my home and surrounding area which has greatly improved my skin, stress, life, etc. I am currently receiving treatment from Von Tiehl and getting allergy shots per week. My triggers are vast so I'm in for the long haul but I feel very confident in this team and I know I'm in the right hands. I am writing this review to let you know Von Tiehl and his staff are THE real ones! They are professional, friendly and know their stuff. Everyone here was very nice. If you are paying out of pocket, ask them for detailed costs of each item you are receiving. I did not do this and my visit cost me over $400. I received a scratch test with 20 possible allergens and found the possible culprit to my ailments. Overall, I received great care. I just would have hoped someone would have broken down all the costs before actually just going through with it. I was never presented with a breakdown but it's also my fault because I never asked during my visit. I just didn't think the cost would be so high :( read more

First, Dr Von Tiehl treated our kid pre-COVID. It took a while, but thanks to his advice, we were able to eliminate foods which caused her serious acid reflux. She really liked his bedside manner and he asked how she was doing when he came in the room, a couple years later. Nice. I visited myself today because my allergy medication seems to be losing its effectiveness. The entire experience went very well, from making an appointment to the prompt visit: the office staff is great, friendly, and competent. The office itself is nice, clean, has ample free parking, and is well-located. Their COVID precautions were good, too. In fact, my follow up in a couple weeks will be by telehealth and I appreciate that. Now to the crux: Dr Von Tiehl is amazing with patients. He is by far one of the most thorough and engaging specialists I've ever had, and I've had a lot of experience with specialists! He answered every question thoughtfully. 100% would recommend Dr. Karl Von Tiehl. He is such a warm, well-mannered, and very knowledgeable physician. He knows what he is doing and he does it in an efficient amount of time. The appointment was at 8am and he had an office packed up the roof and everyone waiting and he was still able to treat the problem and give a proper diagnosis and also refer to other specialties as well. His staff was also super respectful and they were honest and open about all their policies. Had high hopes yet disappointing outcome. Can empathize with all the negative reviews on here as we had similar dealings. First off Mia, who answered the phone gave us 3rd degree about our ins just for wanting to schedule an appointment. You would think they want new business vs trying to shy people away. Listen to reviews about CC on file before seeing Dr, all true.Take time to Read the itemized chart they have at the front desk, because 1 visit alone will cost you hundreds even with good insurance. Remember Dr is not your friend, he's not chatting it up with you in the room with his rehearsed jokes for free. The longer he keeps you in the room, the more time they can bill. He'll act concerned and tell you to give him history of your child, as he pretends to scribble down what you're saying on his post it. Not realizing you can actually see his doodles & drawings, and that he didn't write anything you said down. Way to make your patients feel heard doc. He then offers up all these allergy tests, putting our kids thru numerous appointments, testing, time, and money, all to say in the end that they are not 100 percent accurate. That we still need to do our "homework" and test these results at home. What?!So then why do we need you? All these frequent follow ups are just to fuel his pocket. Near a thousand dollars in co pays later, all we got from it were for my kids to pop a Claritin in the morning. What finally did it for us was this; My daughter needed the Dr to vouch for her allergy medication for a school trip. You would think after all money spent that they would sign no problem. Being they never gave us any aftercare in writing prior either. But of course they used it as opportunity to bill us even more. 50 dollars for a signature or they would not sign off on her form. Apparently That 50 dollars was more important to them than retaining my husband and 2 kids as patients. Being medical professionals ourselves, my husband and I are deeply disheartened in the care and service we've received at Bow tie Allergy. Zero sense of hospitality, customer service, or patient advocacy. Your kids are made to feel like a transaction, dollar signs vs treated like a patient. COMPLETE WASTE OF TIME!!!! My son needed to see an allergist and his pediatrician recommended this place. As I am filling out paperwork I come across a form that asks for me to write down my debit card information. I have NEVER had to do that before and I didn't feel comfortable writing that information down for them to keep on file. The receptionist said it's in case I "try to skip town without paying". I offered to pay up front and she said my son could not be seen without writing down my debit card information. On top of it being risky to put all my information out there like that, I think it's a little insulting to say "incase I skip town and don't pay". I pay my bills and I will happily take my son to go see another doctor. read more

Dr. von Tiehl and his office are the best! My teenage daughter has been going to Dr. von Tiehl for almost two years for allergy shots. We have been very happy with the office, the doctor is super nice as well as very knowledgeable. The people who work at his office (shout out to Sarah) are so helpful and polite and way better than any staff I've dealt with at almost all other doctor offices. Scheduling allergy shots is easy and they are on time at the office, very little wait time when you arrive before you are seen. I cannot say enough good things about this office. When you need to go for allergy shots, it's a place you have to go so often, it's important you like the office and the people. There is a very pleasant comfortable vibe here. The parking is easy and convenient as well. Dr. von Tiehl goes over and above what is necessary - in fact, he discovered my daughter has a mild heart murmur (her pediatrician did not detect this), he helped us accurately diagnose and directed us how to treat her reflux with OTC medication AND he even prescribed her a cream for her eczema which flared up as we happened to be in for an appointment today. Now that's service. My son has been in to see him for mild asthma as well and I was happy with the action plan he put in place and the prescriptions he gave us to have around just in case. Don't hesitate to try Bowtie Allergy. Before we were referred here, we had several mediocre allergists treat my daughter just because they were covered by my insurance. Dr V is the man!!! I took my toddler son and myself to see him regarding our allergies and Dr Von Tiehl ran some skin tests and was able to tell me what I was allergic to, how to treat it, and how to reduce exposure. Oh yeah, I also had my sons father get checked out as well for his gnarly skin allergies. The staff is so pleasant and the office runs a tight ship; true to appointment times etc. If you are looking for an allergist for yourself or your young ones than I highly recommend DR VON TiEHL at bow tie allergy. I have been going to Bowtie Allergy Specialists for about 3 years and I'm still as impressed as I was on my first visit. I've seen the practice grow first-hand, but it's never lost what made it great to begin with: everyone who works there really does seem to care about the patients' wellbeing. Dr. Von Tiehl goes above and beyond what is required of him. Not only has he been a godsend in dealing with my allergies, but the couple of times I've had other respiratory problems he's helped me out as all. A couple months ago, my allergies were really awful and I needed to start studying for finals. Dr. Von Tiehl took the time to sit down with me and came up with a solution which instantly cleared up my problems. It's clear that Dr. Von Tiehl really cares about his patients. Terrible customer service. Their receptionist has no clue what insurances this practice takes. I was advised to be off my allergy meds 5days prior to metal testing. Have begun to breakout only to have another assistant return my call & tell me nothing was scheduled. I then proceeded to schedule an appt they requested a $100 deposit to keep my appt only to call me 20min later turning me away. THANKS A LOT!, not only did I waste my time waiting for a test to be done I am covered in hives. Unprofessional thats what this place is. Very upsetting experience. I went to Dr. von Tiehl based on various good reviews online. I'd asked in advance what my insurance would cover with no response. Arriving at the office, they told me they didn't know what my coverage would be and that I had to contact my insurance company. Okay, well forty minutes later it turns out I had a modest co-pay for the office visit and the testing, but the time for my appointment had wound down and they would only give me the briefest of consultations. Both the staff and the doctor got confrontational with me about this, and I left the office feeling really upset. They also charge a $100 deposit regardless of insurance and were really cagey about how and when I'd received this "deposit" back. Definitely would not recommend. read more

First time seeing Dr.Von Tiehl and he is absolutely amazing! He was thorough, detailed, patient and knowledgeable. He is also an allergy sufferer so he can personally speak to experience and consequence. He explained the prognosis of my son's peanut allergy in such relatable terms. His particular severity is at a level when my son reacts, I should not react with "oh $%#*$, get the epi pen!!!" but rather "oh, he had peanuts, where's the benadryl". I made an appointment to see Dr. Von Tiel today to help me pinpoint exactly what I am allergic to (food and environmental) and to assist me with seasonal allergies. I have been to an allergist in the past that I was referred to by my primary care physician (HMO) but I got the typical take this pill, here is an epi pen and avoid this spill. So I took the initiative and set an appointment with Bowtie Allergy Specialist. I am so happy and glad that I was seen by Dr. Von Tiel, he took the time to assess my history of hive outbreaks from food and environmental factors and allergies. He examined me and administered a scratch test and narrowed down the environmental factors and what I was most impressed with I am allergic to certain herbs/spices because its not typically common in most people to have allergic reactions to spices/herbs. With his specialty and medical experience he was able to create a scratch test specifically for the herbs/spices that I have experienced hive outbreaks from. He also was able to help me with my allergies (sinus, nasal, breathing-pollen/weather changes) which I have suffered from for many years. I am thankful for Dr. Von Tiel's medical advice, direction. I am actually looking forward to my next upcoming appointment with Bowtie Allergy. Also his staff (from the time I made the appointment by telephone to my actual visit and exit) are nice, kind and professional.
