I stopped in at Boxcar Burgers for lunch a couple of weekends ago when I was exploring Brunswick for a few hours, and I thought it was a very good burger! I went with their signature Boxcar Burger (lettuce, tomato, pickled beets, and Boxcar sauce) and added some cheese. Have I ever had pickled beets on a burger before? Nope. Did I think it weirdly worked? Yes. It was just a really good burger - juicy (one of those burgers you don't want to put down and pick back up; make your mess and finish) and delicious. I also thought their fries were very good - and I'm a little picky about fries! And because I was just having too good a time, I also had a kiddie size cup of strawberry frozen custard. The restaurant is casual, comfortable, and a little retro. And the service was great as well. Overall, I Just had a pretty good lunch here - one I'd be happy to repeat. Stopped in and got the daily burger deal. I believe it was a burger, fries, and can soda for $15, which is a great lunch deal! The service was great and they have two options to order. A self-service kiosk and a traditional employee to take your order. We were fretted upon entering and thanked for stopping in. They even had RC cola as a drink choice! The burger was outstanding and locally sourced from Frederick County. It was very juicy and filling. The fries were made to order and nothing too special but they were hot and fresh. We came here since we were in the area and they had the highest ratings. We got a Local Dog, Raymond XL Burger, French Fries and Onion Rings. To start the flavor of the food was good. The Local Dog was good, the bread was a little hard, almost like it was left out and got air stale. The Raymond XL Burger had really good flavor but I am not sure about the XL part. It was a small Burger packed with flavor but lacked in size. The Onion rings were sweet and the batter was good, just wish we had more. The portion was a bit small and because they were good I definitely wanted more. The French fries were great. Cooked well and seasoned well and there was good portion size. I would eat her again if I am her but wouldn't make a special trip because the price didn't match the portion, but the flavors were good. read more

Very much a hole in the wall type of place. You order at the counter and they bring the food out to you. The server was very friendly and the food came reasonably quickly. The place could use a little cleaning, and was very very smoky inside, not sure what was going on with that. The burger was actually really good- simple but fresh tasting and cooked well. The fires were ok, nothing special. For my daughter the highlight was clearly the ice cream selection, which was the perfect dessert for the meal. They serve South Mountain Creamery Ice Cream. We got burgers their loaded bacon fries which were spot on delicious. (Get extra bbq sauce) Their BBQ burger was very good too. Kind of like a smash burger with a perfect amount of char on the meat yet still moist & juicy in the middle. read more

It was just okay for me. We got takeout from here for Mother's Day yesterday because my in-laws live 5 mins away from the Brunswick location (they also have one in Frederick), and grandma was craving their burgers. We agreed because at least the beef is local. Can't speak to how the service was because my father in law picked up the order. 1) The burgers weren't labeled (not one of six), so we had to unwrap each one to see which burger belonged to who. 2) Some of the burgers with modifications / special requests were completely ignored (despite being listed on the receipt) - for example, add red onions. This was the case for 2 of the burgers. I got the boxcar burger, and personally I thought it was dry, lacked flavor, and not juicy at all. Others ordered the Frederick burger and Raymond. My husband got the Raymond and that was slightly better (with the bacon and caramelized onions, which helped make it less dry), but we still both thought it wasn't anything special. I guess for $11-13 a burger, I expected a lot more. We also ordered the Brussels sprouts. It's a bit on the sweeter side, but it was still good. The pecans went great with it. Cheese fries, again were just okay as well. Overall, I probably would not get it again. read more

I was biking the GAP/C&O from Pittsburgh to DC when I crashed about 30 miles from Brunswick. I was able to bike into town and get it to a bike shop, while they were working on it this place was a total score. The folks at the bike shop recommended I come here, and they were absolutely right. I had the special which was named after Cyril Figgis! It had some kind of jam and delicious goat cheese on it, along with some of the best cooked bacon I've ever had on a burger. I think they were closing, honestly didn't look because I was so frazzled. Nevertheless, they served me with a smile/compassion and it was 100% an amazing dining experience. We've been eating Boxcar Burgers since we moved to Jefferson. All the burgers we've had have been delicious. The Brussels sprouts are my favorite with the sweetness and the pecans. Their fries and onion rings are also great. The Brunswick location has ice cream which is perfect for those post-ride days from the C&O. Definitely check them out! Only suggestion would be to make the signage at Brunswick bigger...I've spoken to some people who frequent the C&O who had no idea this place and would ride through to Beans and Belfry or the brewery instead. read more

I had a bacon cheeseburger with havarti cheese. The burger meat itself was fantastic, it's grass fed but you wouldn't know it - it was so perfectly moist and tasty. The cheese was nice and creamy. The bacon - I would never get again, because most of it was fat and inedible, didn't seem cooked all the way and it was so chewy so I actually ended up spitting it out. My husband exit experienced the same with his bacon. The fries were shoestring, thin and perfectly crispy. Some of the best I've had in a while. They were so delicious. We ordered a side, I thought we ordered a large, but felt like the portion was not enough for 2. The cost was a bit pricy, 2 burgers with cheese and bacon and a side of fries for about $26. Plus tip took me over $30. Well, sometimes you gotta treat yo'self. If I'm in the neighborhood and craving a burger, I will likely come back here. Definitely an unpleasant pickup experience. Instructions were to call and the number did not ring for me. I tried the locked door, and a blue-eyed blond asked crossly if I needed something. When I suggested they put the pickup window in their automessage she did everything but roll her eyes at me. This may have colored my experience with the food - the fries were overcooked, the Brussels sprouts tasted like syrup had been poured on them and the burger was nothing special. Let me start by saying their food and ice cream are amazing. However, their staff are rude and pretentious. We tried to pay $20 for two scoops prior to opening. We were denied (which is fine); went back later and (jokingly), told the story to the "cashier" she said "yeah, no. I'm the cashier so they couldn't". She was tall, blonde and snooty. We talked to a nice young man there, glasses and around 18, who was telling us of the flavors. When we tried to order, again, the same tall, blonde and snooty cashier said to us "I'm the cashier, not him and I'll say what you can order" vs is saying "my coworker told me what you'd enjoy". Overall, left a bad taste, despite the great ice cream. Also, get better management!!
