Until I visited Furniture Depot in Chula Vista, most the sofas and accent chairs were either cheap, poorly constructed, overpriced, they didn't have the size sofa for my living room... or the fabric wasn't the color I was looking for to match my other living room decor. One store I was going to buy from prior, the owner had me pay for the entire living room set upfront "because it was custom" then after waiting over a month the guy told me the fabric was discontinued. I found a swatch sample in their showroom that was basically identical, but the owner told me it would be $1,500 more for that fabric. I told him the deal is dead, give me my money back, which he did. I concluded the guy seemed nice but he was like a wolf in sheep's clothing. After that painful ordeal, I went and searched showrooms in San Diego's South Bay. I was about to give up but there was one last store I went into that day on Broadway in Chula Vista, Furniture Depot. Right from the beginning I was impressed. Their showroom larger than most furniture stores with vastly different styles throughout. The manager Dustin greeted me shortly after I walked in. He was there to assist and answer any questions I had. Dustin was very knowledgeable about all the products. He put everything at ease. It was a relief speaking with someone in the business who was honest and transparent about everything. After speaking with him only a few minutes I knew I was going to make my purchase through this store. Everything I was interested in could be ordered new, he explained. He offered custom sizes and many colors to choose from. Dollar for dollar, based on the quality of product, I don't think there's any local competitor that can match their service or quality. The turn-around for the custom-sized furniture was very fast, less than 2 weeks. The guys who delivered the product performed a white glove delivery service for a very low reasonable fee, lower cost than most furniture places offer. I ended up buying a 92" sofa, ottoman and accent chair - all new - all matching fabric, great quality, and very comfortable to sit and lay in. I'm glad I found this place. First of all, Nestor didn't hit us with that fake sales energy. No "this one cured my back pain and fixed my credit score," line. Nah--he kept it real. He was like, "Your kid's growing, and a bed like this will be good for a long time". To which I added that, "yeah this is the only bed he's getting from us, after that he's on his own as he will be a grown ass man, he can get his own." Nestor knew what I was talking about, we had a connection. Moreso because I never got my own bed until I joined the Navy and you know the Navy provides its Sailors with "government grade high-quality" mattresses... . Nestor really paid attention to my kid and made him feel a part of the sale, which I know my kid was really happy about. My son went from bed to bed and tried all of them like that little white privileged girl who did a B & E at the bears house, and after a while he laid on one bed and didn't move for like 10 minutes. Nestor just nodded like, "Yeah... I think he may have found the one." Also, we didn't feel pressured at all. It was more like talking to your cousin who knows too much about beds, but in a helpful way. He broke everything down simple--no weird mattress science lecture, just "this one's comfy, this one's gonna last, this one's not gonna have you waking up feeling like you got jumped in your sleep." We got the full-size bed, once it gets delivered, I'm sure my kid will be sleeping like he pays rent, and honestly I think we're going to start charging him rent. !!! Sleep Train Mattress Center (which was also a good experience) did a same day delivery the night before, and, when setting up our new box spring, I stared suspiciously at the small wooden lips and three flimsy planks that would be holding our box spring, queen size mattress and my wife and I while we are most vulnerable (Note: I DID NOT buy the bed frame from Sleep Train, just the box spring we were missing) Luckily, we made it through the night unharmed, but I sat down on the mattress the next morning while getting ready & CRACK the lip on my side snapped off, screws and all :( My wife diligently searched for a metal frame for our bed and found Brunswick Mattress Warehouse. Being naturally super suspicious of all that is Craigslist, I'd made time to go with her and was very, very pleasantly surprised! George, the owner, has been at this location since the early 80s and had another location in the same business park since the 70s. George was very concerned about our safety and satisfaction and took the time to go over bed assembly and safety. I feel like a mid-level apprentice now combined with my experience as a mover when I was a kid. Anyway, George even loaded up our frame for us! The price was great, service was awesome and I can tell he really cares! This is for sure my go to guy for anything and everything mattresses and bed frames now!
