We booked a 3 bedroom mountain villa and it was DIRTY, OLD, OUTDATED! We asked for another room and it was even worse. There was caked on dust and dirt-there is no way way the room was cleaned which is especially concerning during covid. We opened a closet door and it came off the hinges, outlets didn't work and weren't exactly sure if there was a bandaid on the mirror but it looked like one. Old broken dusty mini blinds. Great Michigan hill. New lifts, friendly staff and tasty expensive food. The only issue is it is so popular you can't get a table, a stool or a spot to stand in the bars and restaurants. I like this place but they need to add a couple more restaurants/bars. read more

We came carve some runs and we did just that. The village has this party atmosphere outside which gives an atmosphere of fun. If you're looking for a nice place in Michigan where there's plenty of runs to keep you having fun all day, then you've come to the right place. There's a few lifts from the base that'll take you to the top and from there you can carve down to another lift to take you to a different part of the mountain. Remember, there's two different peaks, there's the left peak that everybody runs down on. There's a variety of different slopes you can take as well.. from green to blue to diamonds, it's all there. Then there's the right peak,, you can either get there by walking peak to peak, OR go down the right side of the left peak and stay left and keep going left past the terrain park to access the first lift on the right peak. From there, they have the longer runs which is great for free riding. Don't know what I'm talking about? There's an area map right around the food court and the ticket counter. There you'll plot out your plan of attack and see what it is that Boyne Mountain has to offer.   Are you a beginner? No worries, there's a novice lift just for you guys. Just get a FREE Boyne day pass and you can practice how to break and carve without wasting your money. Not into skiing or snowboarding? There's snow tubing as well. It's always awesome fun to go down the slope with inflatables.   Their food court is really nice, they serve drinks and food just like any other food court. There are tables to put your food on and there are chairs around the tables to sit in while you eat your meal/snack. There's a big projector screen that shows clips and videos of big mountain snowboarding and skiing. It's really nice actually, it kinda makes you wanna go back out and do all the things that they're showing on the screen.   There's also a lounge at the peak of the left hill,, there's a 360° fire place to warm up your gear,, then there's a bar which you can have a round or two with your friends and family. Then enjoy the breathtaking panoramic windows in their sitting area. Sit down, shoot the breeze and/or take a break while uploading all your pics to instagram.    This place is awesome, there's always something to do for everyone here. That's only for the winter time too. I couldn't say much for the summer activities, but I'm sure it's as much fun as well. Thank you for an awesome winter Boyne mountain. I always like to give a rating based on an average of the different elements that made up the overall experience. There were a couple things that were five stars but others that were lucky to get one. We drove about 5 hours to get there and we were tired and ready to check in when we got there but the room wasn't ready at the time they said it would be so we were left to figure something else out while we waited. Not off to a really good start unfortunately. We decided to try the in house restaurant and although the food was decent the time it took to get service and our food was incredibly long especially considering the fact there were only two other people in there. After we ate we went outside and looked around. We made our way over to the chair lift and took a ride up and down boyne mountain. The view was nice and it was a pleasant ride. The lift operators were friendly and professional so this was better. About 2 hours later we got the call that our room was ready. Yay! We gathered our things and moved into the room. The food we brought with would have definitely benefited from getting into the Fridge and Freezer 3 hours earlier. Although it was salvaged it was a reminder that we had to pay for dinner instead of preparing the food we brought, because our room wasn't ready. The rooms were nice and although it took some time to get the temperature down to a reasonable place it was pleasant. When we pulled back the bedspread the fitted sheet popped off. We quickly realized they had attempted to put a Queen sheet on a King Bed. No biggie I thought, I'll just call down and get a replacement. Of course when I took the sheet off I found a VERY stained bed cover and mattress. When they asked if I needed anything besides the sheets I said they might want to send up a forensics team since it looked like someone had be disemboweled on the bed. Not sure they understood the "joke" but with a clean bed cover and proper sheets we felt safe enough sleeping in the bed but it was not ideal for the two nights we stayed. On our first full day we went to Deer Lake and spent most of the day there. The water was warm and we paddled ourselves out pretty far before we could no longer touch. That evening we tried out the water park and the kids had a great time on the slides and artificial wave machine. This part was a positive. The arcade was your typical spend a lot of money for itty bitty prizes but we always do it for the thrill and the entertainment so I didn't mind the paying. We were all very disappointed to find 75% of the games shut down, probably for the Virus so I get it. On our last day we asked for a late checkout given the fact they made us wait 3 hours to check in but the best they could do was an hour. We did the zip line on our last day and it was by far the highlight of our visit. The staff was very well organized getting us into our harnesses and we rode the chair lift up and walked over to the starting point. I lost track of how many zip lines we actually went down because it was soooo much fun. I want to say at least 10 possibly 12 lines. They were all a little different and the staff went out of their way to make each one uniquely fun. I had no problem giving them a very generous tip when it was all done. I will say it again the Zip Line was Amazing. A highlight for all five of us. After tip it was north of $400 for our group but all in all I have to say it was well worth it. A great value for the money. My kids were filming their rides with their cell phones and it made me wish I'd remembered the Go Pro. So some definite lowlights and some definite highlights brings me to a solid 3 Stars and we just may visit again. read more

I terribly regret choosing Boyne and will discourage others from staying at the Clock Tower, in particular. Upon arrival, the staff member who greeted me was uninspired, unfriendly, and lacked basic knowledge of the resort. Many of my very general questions either went unanswered or I pieced it together myself. I was assigned a room in the Clock Tower. It was terrible. It was difficult to get hot water. Very difficult. So showers were luke warm. The sinks didn't drain well nor did the toilet flush well. Typically, Beds have (only) the head board against the wall. These beds had the head AND one side against walls. So you really only have one entry point for two people. I suppose you could crawl in/out from the foot of the bed... The room contained an iron but no ironing board. I called the uninspired front desk and it took nearly an hour to get an ironing board. It was an adventure to find the laundry facility. The uninspired front desk initially told me there were laundry machines in my building. I searched but soon discovered that was not the case. I was so disappointed with this "resort" (Motel 6 is more accurate), I cut my trip short and left. read more

Rented out a mountain cabin with the family for 5 days recently. The skiing itself here is pretty great for what you pay considering it's in Michigan. There are plenty of runs and lifts so the place never felt crowded while we were there. There are a number of restaurants and a spa at the resort that are a really nice addition. The shops there are great too in case you need some last minute gear. The rental facility here is really streamlined and easy to get everything in a timely manner so you can get up on the slopes! Can't recommend enough, would love to come here in the summer and go hiking too! read more

Great place - we spent 3 days skiing and the slopes were great for all levels. There is a green slope area has a free lift ticket - which we didn't see on the website so we were extremely happy to save that money on our girl's cost to ski! Well maintained, cool shops and nice little tavern in a great location. Easy to figure out rentals and lift tickets. If you do a multiple day rental and you are not staying on property you do have to haul your equipment back to your hotel (we stayed at Odewa which was nice and a great price). read more

If I could give a 0 star I would....we had an emergency and could no longer stay at our OWNED letter condo - on this property which we bring THEM business. We also have a 11 month old baby and mind you it's 9:30 PM. This is an off weekend - SUNDAY with maybe 20 cars in the parking lot. We came in to get a room for one night and we also have our small dog. The guy who went to help us literally looked for 1 minute and goes "sorry we have no dog friendly rooms available" and said nothing else...he just looked at us. So now my husband, I and our 11 month old son are searching for a place to stay. They did NOTHING for us and honestly I would never recommend this place - it's unfortunate we even own because we are giving this place money with the amount of people we have stay. I've been here three times now in spring summer and fall. I missed the busy ski season but the staff is always wonderful. They have a variety of restaurants to enjoy and even shopping. Our stay was so enjoyable. We stayed for 2 nights, 3 days in the mountain grand lodge. First let me say, everyone on the resort is sooooo nice. Like super nice. They made our stay extra enjoyable. Rooms were very clean, beds were very comfortable. When asked for an extra comforter, within 15 mins we had a knock at the door. Such quick service! We also included breakfast in our package and they have a small buffet style breakfast. You can have omelettes and pancakes to order as well included in the breakfast package. We did Avalanche Bay Waterpark, highly recommend. The weekend we went nobody was there. It felt like we had the whole water park to ourselves. My favorite activity we did was the zip lining for sure! There's 10 different zip lines throughout the mountain. The views of the colorful trees were amazing! And let me not forget to mention, the guys who guided us throughout the zip lines were AMAZING! They love their job and it shows. Jordan, Pie and Roman were our zip line guides. Jordan was extremely outgoing and gave me so many tips to help me do the flip upside down the zip line. I finally nailed it and it was so much fun. That was one of the best experiences I've ever had. Highly recommend the zip lining! Everything about the trip was phenomenal. I've been here twice for a work conference/retreat. The staff is extremely helpful. The food is delicious! The rooms are comfortable and quite spacious. The suites are amazingly big with lots of amenities for longer stays. The resort is a slightly dated but it doesn't take away from the character / overall feel of the resort. It's lovely! We didn't lodge at the resort so I can't speak to the accommodations portion. However tons of vreat options for Air BnBs around the area to get away from the busyness of a resort! In terms of the slopes a wide array of options! We came on a weekend where it was pretty warm for winter about 40s, but they made snow efficiently so that it was never too icey. Friendly staff, great vibe, one of the better places we've snowboarded at in the Midwest. Also, its cheaper to buy your lift ticket online. A nice quick get away. You hardly get any reception in this area and Boyne City from our experience. Great way to disconnect. read more

We are big waterpark fans in my family so we decided to get a room at Boyne Mountain and give their Avalanche Bay a shot. We are a family of 5 but when you put 2 adults and 3 kids into the reservation search, the price was astronomical! So I entered just 2 kids and 2 adults and paid $190 and when I checked into the room, paid another $12.72 to add on my 3 year old to the waterpark. First, the room was in the Clock Tower....it's been decades since I've been given an actual key for a hotel room so you know the building is old and in desperate need of renovation. It seems they had just overhauled the rooms only but the decor seemed like the designer had just went to TJMaxx and picked up all the odd things she could find. The room was tiny and you could hear every little sound so it was very hard to get a good rest. There was a nice pool and hot tub behind the building so that was a plus. The waterpark was nice as far as waterparks go. We went on a Monday in August in the evening and enjoyed almost no lines but went early the next morning and it was much busier. Lifeguards seemed like they were all 14 and not that focused on the watching the swimmers. The kids did enjoy the free chairlift ride, s'mores and games on the lawn and we paid $20 for our oldest to zip line which he loved. It would be nice to find an actual family friendly resort that doesn't gouge families wallets at mealtimes. We paid $15 just for cereal and milk in their cafe so you should definitely pack food. At the end of the day I wasn't as wowed as I had hoped to be and the lack of a good night's sleep didn't help my opinion. read more

We come here every year for new years, but unfortunately this year has been bad enough we won't be returning next year. we understand the weather isn't great so there isn't snow on the whole mountain, but with only 4 runs being open and there being parts where you literally have to ski through mud, the mountain should refund part of our $100+ tickets. in good faith, they should not have charged $100+ per ticket per day to begin with with the current conditions. the cost does not equate the experience at all. to top it all off, and the reason that i was even pushed to leave this review is the ski lift workers were incredibly rude (to everyone) and ruined the beginning and end of every run. i've never had a bad experience at boyne before, and i've skiied when it's been -30 degrees out, and 40 and raining, but this trip was awful. our group traveled over 4 hours to ski here, and we feel completely disappointed in our experience and how we were treated by boyne staff. read more

Having not visited Boyne for three years, I hoped for some improvement but was disappointed. The first problem is parking. There are no signs directing you to the day parking, but plenty of signs telling you where not to park. Once we found the sign-less lot we had to find the pre-paid reservation window. Here is a hint: it is not near the place where you buy lift tickets. Lift lines were acceptable and the snow decent. Despite it being late-January not all of the runs were open, but they were making snow. What was open was fine, but not worth the price. read more

First off - Let's get right down to it, the overall resort has "up north" personality with simple small town charm to go with your Michigan Yooper kinda vibe.. not in the upper but as you traverse farther north in MichIgan that's the spirit of the people. It's a mindset that's slower paced, a simple way of living, being apart of the outdoors is what life is all about. The fail for five? I'm always hoping for a five star experience because it means you're all in. I am fair to hand you that chance on a silver platter by a saying "hi it's our first time here!! We've never been here!".. with enthusiasm to try this place out. And there is the fail, right out the gate the check-in young lady was friendly enough and professional but not one extra effort to make it great. Here is a map, there is your key. I'm like so... what's best to park for where the room is? Oh and she explained. Nothing NOTHING to share about the pool, hot tub, fitness center, spa, ski things, and okay the pool in the end wasn't much to talk about if your an adult. Failing the five was that and the $$$ to eat on site when exhausted and it's later in the evening after 7 and you need food that's better than a grab and go sandwich. Kinda wanted to give them 3 stars but husband thought four was faIr. After some figuring out that Oh there is a bus and trolley by the little village if you would. That too was just out there (the village?) it's dark and MY FIRST TIME huh? Where? Have a few places to get food and drinks, a spot for ice cream and Kilwins chocolate. Overall the breakfast buffet on site at their main restaurant Everetts was worthy. Good food and lots of options. Worth the price and dinner had been good our first night with a super tasty ribeye but come on for over $30 bucks and this dash of whipped potatoes it was a real let down. Mind you I'm not one of your Ski Resort Elites that are dolled up for a day at the slopes in my latest name brand apparel. Not looking just for pampering and a valet to wait on my every need. That said there are some amenities I can't speak to here. Also we unfortunately haven't had kids yet. And the abundance of kids and families looks like the kiddos have fun in an indoor pool that mostly sits outside! Not my thing and I was bummed that getting in the hot tub means going OUTSIDE which for me is a big ask. Boo! Winter isn't the time of year I'm hopping in a hot tub outside.. the tubing hill looked fun but didn't get to do it.. Part 2: ski time here was not what my ski guy is used to out west say Colorado style. Later start at 9A and found out the hard way that we didn't see the sign and oh yeah at check in nobody really gave us a rundown. But the night time ski ends early at 430 in the afternoon on Sunday so he didn't get to ski more with his two day pass. The size of the hills are good and plenty of variety on the trails to pick from. Especially if you're getting back to it after a time off. He was happy the chair lifts weren't super slow and some are newer to get ya up in good time. He enjoyed some very friendly people that offered advice about the trails and some ski demos. He definitely would come back for the downhill ski. The two gentlemen at the bus stop on Saturday were fantastic and so friendly and helpful. I found the shops more high end than expected for a quaint little place with this little village. Kind of feels like a local place with more things to buy like a book or artwork or fun affordable things or baked goods might work. I'd come back but hope for any newbies they can get help here. Oh and i did finally nab a concierge guy too at one time that went fine. He was friendly and helpful. Just had to stop and see someone to make that a point. read more

For the past few years, my husband and I have bought the season lift tickets, and tried to go skiing as often as possible during the season. The silver pass has blackout dates where you cannot ski at the Mountain, but CAN ski at the Highlands. When the holiday crowds at the Mountain would be annoying anyway, the silver pass is all we need. Most of the runs are groomed, but there are some moguls on Idiot's Delight. There are plenty of steep runs for those who like it steep. Try Devil's Dive or Nose Dive if you like a challenge. Not very long, but nice and steep. There is a super pipe and the terrain park. What fun! I love the whoop-de-doo section. Just watch out for fallen children. Free beginners' section! read more

Boyne is really fun. When it's not too busy. Saturdays are the worst. Boyne Mountain has better skiing but Highlands runs are longer and lines shorter. Oh and parking stinks badly at boyne mountain. On the plus side nice bars especially Piersons. And lots of Stein Erikson stuff which is great for ambience. Stein is an icon of skiing. We met him at Park City and he's a real gentleman. I saw good being brought across the property covered with Saran Wrap and it was cold this weekend. Leads me to believe there is little to be done regarding keeping food temps and safety as well. read more

What a poor customer service. The skeleton staff and high priced food . Not good . The long lift lines with two people trying to STOP everyone to scan. Really?? Let's stop and hold everyone up. If you are going to scan then put enough people in place to do it right. Lots of people are upset skiers. I have no problem with the scanners but need to do it right. Not halfway. We are season pass holders and are considering not returning next year. We ski with 20 families and they are not happy. Lost our pass on first run due to poor clip. Still charged us full price. I know it's all about the money but service needs to be above anything! Poor decision to add the scanners - doing it half way! Hope you change it quick. This resort was great for our family with young children. Right from the start everything was great. The front desk staff was very accommodating and allowed us to check in early. Which was great bc we only had sunny weather the first day. Those extra few hours allowed us time to get in all our outdoor activities. We rented the golf cart which the kids loved $45. We did the wagon ride, chair lift and s'mores all was included with our stay. We stayed in The Mountain Resort and Spa. Our room was very clean and updated. I was expecting an older building but the main resort must've had a complete remodel. My kids loved the loft area with the two beds. The bedding was very comfortable and the duvet was so cozy.The pool is great inside/outside pool. The first pool I've seen like this. Two outdoor hot tubs. The exercise room is small but perfect, it has everything you need including two Pelotons. We did Avalanche Bay for a few hours they loved it. The staff on the surf simulation were so kind to my smaller kids. They helped to make sure they understood how to do it. It was very sweet to watch. Overall a really great stay! We are from Texas and have been coming to this ski resort for the last 3 years. Our boys are now 6 and 8 and this is where they have learned how to ski. I love the slopes are not like Colorado crazy. Crowd is much less so it is easier to keep track of the boys when they learn how to ski: they have a magic carpet so you don't need ropes to go up the bunny slopes. In fact they have Boyneland lift as part of the "bunny" slopes so you can learn to ride lifts and skis for free! We will definitely come back again. read more

Came up here for the second year in a row for my best friend bday. This year we decided just to get the condominium instead of the log cabin. We only had 4 people so the condominium was just fine. The condominium had 4 bedrooms which 2 of them had 2 queen beds in them and the other two had king beds. It also had 3 full bathroom so if u had a family of 4 and more u would have a problem waiting for the bathroom. Full kitchen with all the utensils u need for a large family also had a bbq grill and a hot tub which we used every night to relax in. Good place to come to with your family or friends to relax and enjoy yourself. A good amount of activity to do like paintball mountain biking and etc....... restaurants on site but limited. Only had 3-4 restaurant u can pick from. But overall great place to come to. We plan on making it a annual event here wit our friends. read more

Overall, I like the resort. The slopes are nice, but the deer run is not as exciting. If they improve this, then I'd give it 5 stars. Moving on, the restaurants have tasty food, but I'd improve the deserts. For the cabins, I like the idea of the ski-in ski-out, but I wish there were more areas for this. The pool's hot tub could also be a little hotter. Those are just some suggestions, but overall the resort is great for skiing. read more
