I've been going to the BP service station for quite a few years now, and up until recently, the price, service, and unnecessary charges have forced me to stop bringing my cars there. An oil change is double the price of anywhere else in the general great neck/little neck area, and the service is poor. I once requested to see the battery replacement they insisted needed to go in my car, and then proceeded to not show me the old battery that had a warranty on it (even though they have to as they are insured through AAA). I needed a car inspection. When I came to this place yesterday (Saturday morning) a man that seemed to be the manager told me that he could not perform the inspection because he had only one mechanic that was working yesterday but that I should come back Sunday morning and I would have no wait. Each bay door of of the service area stated the hours of 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. 7 days per week. Today (Sunday) I arrived shortly after 7a.m. The office was dark. I walked up to the door of the office and the hours for Sunday were stated differently (8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.) I waited until 8:00 a.m. because I had no idea as to where else I would find a place to do an inspection on a Sunday. Shortly after 8 a.m. the office was open. When I walked in there were 3 unmasked men in a small office. Perhaps this is why they have only 1 mechanic on a Saturday. The man from yesterday told me that he couldn't take my car until 9:00 because NYS does not allow this (Lie #1). He said that the inspection would take 40 minutes (Lie #2). He then asked me for the tool to unlock the wheel locks. I had never been asked such a question before. He then said that he could not service my car if I didn't provide him with the tool to unlock my wheels. I left. Fortunately, I found another station that performed my inspection without a wait. The office manager told me that NYS inspections can be performed at any time, he told me that it would take about 15 minutes, and he managed to find the tool to unlock my wheels. I noticed that the majority of negative reviews about this service station were written by women or by men who wrote about negative experiences of women in their lives. CUSTOMER BEWARE ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE A FEMALE. Places like this should be held accountable. read more

Rip off artists and scammers. This is possibly the worst place to service your vehicle or get any repairs performed. I wouldn't even go here for gas as it's the most expensive around. We needed a tire plugged not patched. Many places don't plug tires on RFT tires but it can be safely and properly done. I was unable to take the car to the shop I usually go to. Unfortunately the car ended up here at this BP as it's close to home. Aman the Indian "manager" took complete advantage of the situation. He had no problem doing the cheap plug repair but then proceeded to get the owner and make a big deal about the brake light on the dash. The brake light was on the dash because I simply forgot to reset it after having new pads, sensor installed and rotors resurfaced. Aman made a big deal and used scare tactics on my who took the car for service. She is not knowledgeable with car repairs. Aman and the owner then made up some nonsense and even went as far as to tell her "the brakes weren't changed, the rotors weren't resurfaced". Aman then told her to pay $20 to the owner for just clearing the brake light. Keep in mind the codes can be cleared in less than a minute, anyone can do it watching a YouTube video. I even had the proper BMW diagnostic tool to clear the light in the car but just didn't have time to do it. Aman and his mechanics had NO reason to be inside the car or to see what lights or messages were on. They were simply told to plug a tire. I'm not sure why he felt the need to do that but it I had to guess it's because he saw a young girl with a BMW and thought he'd try to grab more money. I myself have had a bad experience here a few times trying to get a inspection in the years prior. So it's not just a one time thing and looking at the piss poor reviews from the past I can only conclude this place is totally a scam. Seriously there is a Amco gas station right across the street on northern and if you really like BP just make a left at the next light onto great neck road and there's another BP half a mile up the road (Paul's auto), they actually do honest work. Avoid this place unless you like being told lies and like being ripped off. If you got any recommendations from these guys on work to be done I'd get a second opinion. read more

The TPMS monitor went off on my car. Since I had to get gas, I thought I'd come by since they also had a little maintenance area. When I asked the guy if he'd take a look, he said it was $15 just to put it on the lift to take a look. After 15 minutes of doing nothing, I walked outside the stared at my car - that when the mechanics started moving around. I have run flat tires - he showed me the hole and said I'd need to get the tires replaced for $300 and would be here in 30-40 minutes. I started googling the tire model and found them for $240. I told him the bring the car off the lift and he fortunately didn't charge me. I ended up finding Auburndale Tire and Auto Repairs (300+ review and 4 stars) - they charged me $22 for a patch. If I could give zero stars I would. They took advantage of my mother law. Quoted $2k when she arrived to pick up the car they had her sign off on a $3.4k repair bill. None of the repairs done were necessary and now the car runs terribly when there were no issues prior. Filing a complaint with the better business bureau. Avoid this establishment at all costs! This place was a huge rip-off. I brought my car here because the inspection sticker was due for renewal, and it was the closest one to my house that had an open appointment. I had only one day left to get my sticker renewed. After bringing my car in, I went across the street to the cafe for a quick coffee break. After striking up a conversation with one of the locals, they mentioned to me how the BP across the street was a shady establishment. One of the cafe staff there overheard us, and chimed in as well, saying that she had taken her car there, and, interestingly, they found a slew of problems, despite her car being new for less than three months. I try not to let too much bias for my opinions, but when I got back, sure enough they said that my car did not pass inspection. I was shocked and asked why. They said that , even though my vehicle passed the emissions, one of my tires was worn down too low to pass inspection. They then told me that they cannot give me a new sticker unless I bought new tires right then and there. Then they also tried to convince me that I could not just buy one tire, I would have to buy an entire set of 4 so that they all wear down the same. (While I have heard that too, no store worth its reputation has ever tried to PUSH, or in this case BLACKMAIL, that on a customer. They usually will say that it's recommended to buy for, but if they're on a tight budget then it's a risk they run.) Immediately I called my husband, wondering if I should pay for four brand new tires. He didn't know that I went to that BP station, and told me that he had taken our old car there when we had just moved into the neighborhood, and the same thing happened. They told him all these things that were broken, but when he went for a second opinion elsewhere, it was just an inexpensive part that needed to be replaced versus an entire system. I ended up asking for my keys back, and they said that they could not allow me to drive it back on the street with a bad tire. When I told them that I would take the risk, they then tried to scare me by saying that no other place would be open late enough to get a new inspection sticker, and I would be illegally driving it after tomorrow. I demanded my keys back, and left. Ended up calling around, and going to the STS down on Hillside Avenue in New Hyde Park. While they told me that one of my tires was indeed low, they said I still have at least a month left to drive on it, given my driving patterns.... But still, definitely passable for inspection. One of the biggest mistakes of my life was bringing my car to this service station. I had a long drive ahead of me, and I figured I would get my car checked out before leaving. The mechanic called me and told me that my car needed a lot of work, and if I didn't fix these issues, the car would break down. I of course panicked (what else is new.) He quoted me for $600. Several hours later, I went to go pick my car up, and the mechanic tells me there's been a slight change....... I ended up paying over $2000 for work I didn't even need. 30 mins into my drive my steering wheel locks and I hit into a pole. The mechanic himself later confessed that he screwed up. To make up for this disaster, the mechanic told me all services would be free up to a year. I made sure to get it all in writing. I go back a couple of months later for an oil change, and guess what? Horrible experience! Would ask me pay $37 and fail the State Inspection (for my 2-year-old car) if I decided not to buy and install their overlycharged windshield wiper ($29.95/ea). The attitude of the guy in the office was nasty, agreesive, forceful and extremely greedy. Last time he gave me an estimation repairing charge of my other mini van for over $1,000, however I spent $140 and fixed it in another place. Went to get gas @bp and car tire was low and instead of getting change to get air myself I was being lazy and had the shop fill the air. I got home left the house another an hour later and one of my tire was 100%flat. He must of did something so that the tire would slowly deflate cause I then brought it over to red auto in douglaston across the golf range and they said nothin was wrong with the tire no holes/ nails they were nice enough to put my spare back and put air back in my tire!! read more

I would never ever come back to that shop again, come for the oil change and then had to go back to a different shop because they spilled over inside the car and the car started smoking, if the shop can not make a such simple thing as chenging oil the right way then you should stay away from that shop, when next day i brought this issue to the meneger he was rude and nasti, saying" DONT GIVE ME HARD TIME" also trying to performe some services you dont really need to do like suspension parts while i know i changed all of then in the last few month! I have had varying experiences with automotive shops, and this was one of the most shocking and disappointing experiences I have ever had. I was in the area and stopped by for a routine inspection thinking that I'd be fine as I have had constant maintenance and no problems whatsoever with the car at any other shop. However, after I spoke with the guy at the desk, he became very nasty and aggressive in his demeanor, particularly after trying to over-sell me an expansive list of repairs he nitpicked to fail the inspection, including parts that had just been replaced. I was dubious and decided to get a second opinion through Yelp and I see this is not the first time this has happened, so I decided to leave a review of how I was treated by this business. The second shop I checked out was shocked by the list of unneeded repairs which in total was hundreds and thousands of dollars, with major upcharge on parts/labor, and had no problems passing inspections soon after. Makes me shudder to think what could happen to an unsuspecting motorist with limited automotive knowledge.. read more
