Came here today for the first time. I usually get serviced twice a year at my dealership but saw my oil was down a quart and I wanted to get this done before I go on a summer road trip vacation. If there was one disappointment, it was that there were only two people on duty (unless there was someone working the underground bays that open to capture the oil drained which I couldn't see). Luckily, in my case, there was only one person being serviced ahead of me so I didn't have to be terribly delayed. I would guess that it took about 10 minutes longer than it would have had there been a third person there. The two workers were very professional in their interactions with the customers. Based upon what I saw, I could see getting a lot of things done at this place that I never would have considered from a quick oil change business. I didn't know they did inspections and could do a lot of other work. At the end, my mechanic came back to the office with a checklist in which 5 or 6 items of a possible 14 or so were checked. Some of these things on the checklist were things that cost over $100 that the checklist said should be done every 4 to 7 years. What I couldn't figure out was how he thought that my car needed these maintenance items right now. Was it based on something he saw while working on my car? Or was it an assumption that I hadn't gotten some of these things done yet? I didn't know. But to get everything serviced on the check list probably would have cost me upwards of $400.00. As I hadn't planned to spend near that much, I told the technician that I had been getting maintenance done at regular intervals at the car dealership (true) and that I was confident that these items would have been taken care of as they came up. So I just asked for one of the items to be undertaken which was a top of coolant as the fluid level was low. What was really going on was that I didn't feel a sufficient level of trust with Valvoline that my car really needed these services at this particular time. I thought that maybe they were trying to upsell me something that I didn't need. I couldn't tell as it was just my first time there. But I'll say this. If, when I go to my dealership in January for my car's inspection, they tell me I have to get some of these things done that were suggested today, I will be more likely to undertake the suggestions I got at Valvoline going forward. read more

Customer Beware I went to the Valvoline location in Great Neck for an oil change and New York State inspection. While I was waiting, an employee approached me and recommended several services and repairs totaling several hundred dollars. As I usually do, I politely declined. A short time later, the assistant manager, Kevin, came out and told me I was "all set." I assumed that meant I had passed the inspection. Instead, he told me I had failed because my windshield wipers needed to be replaced. I asked if they could replace the wipers right then and rerun the inspection. He said yes, but explained that with Valvoline you pay the inspection fee whether you pass or fail, and I would have to pay another inspection fee to have it reinspected. He also said I could buy my own wipers elsewhere and come back later for the reinspection. [[HIGHLIGHT]]What frustrated me most was that I asked Kevin why no one had told me about the worn wipers before the inspection began.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I asked whether it was against New York inspection regulations to point that out beforehand. He told me it was his discretion whether to say anything. He also mentioned that he was tired of doing inspections. Therefore he stated that he decided not to tell me and allow me to fail. It was totally his discretion. Would you trust a service station that can decide on how they feel that day , how you look , or how much you send there to decide your inspection? Because years back when I went to the very same place another gentleman who isn't there any longer, told me I will fail the inspection because my tires are wore out. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Anyhow Kevin's response didn't sit well with me. It would have taken less than a minute for someone to tell me, "Your wipers need to be replaced or your vehicle will fail inspection."[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I had already been approached about hundreds of dollars in recommended services, but no one mentioned the one inexpensive item that would cause my inspection to fail. Because of that, I was left wondering whether my earlier decision to decline the recommended services influenced how my inspection was handled. I can't say for certain that it did, but that's how the experience felt to me. Had it been a friend or family member, I believe they likely would have been given a simple heads-up. [[HIGHLIGHT]]After I raised my concerns, Kevin ultimately did not charge me because I made a stand.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]However, when I explained why I felt the situation was unfair, his response was essentially, "I apologize you feel that way," rather than acknowledging that the situation could have been handled better.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] My issue isn't with failing an inspection if something legitimately doesn't meet the requirements. My concern is that a simple warning about the wipers could have saved everyone time and frustration. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I'm sharing this experience not because I hold a grudge against Kevin, but because I hope other customers will ask questions and be informed before their inspection begins.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Whether you're a young driver, a parent, or a senior citizen, don't be afraid to ask what items could cause your vehicle to fail before the inspection starts. I've been a long-time customer of the Valvoline at 780 Northern Boulevard, Great Neck, NY 11021 with a 2011 Honda Pilot and before that a 2005 Pilot. Usually go for something extra as routine maintenance when getting an oil change. So on April 4 2026 the guy said I could use a new battery. I thought it was a marginal call but said OK. The next day my wife used the car to go to work. When she returned to the car it would not start. She called me panicked. I explained that I bought a new battery the day before. She had to call an Uber to get somewhere quick and then returned later to the car. Then she called AAA. When the tow truck driver came he looked at the car said it was a battery issue. When my wife said it was a new battery he looked at it and said it wasn't installed properly. He recharged it. [[HIGHLIGHT]]When Valvoline Customer Care sent me a survey I cited the problem and my dissatisfaction. I forward documentation (AAA visit and Uber). They promised to look into it.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]After a few days I asked what was the status of the complaint. They replied that "This has been forwarded to our Management team for further review." Again after a few days I asked about the status. At that point did not get any reply[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. Got another customer survey instead. I noted the fact that the complaint had been ignored. I would assume they have cameras inside the Valvoline work area and may have been able to look at a tape. Regardless, they seem to have dismissed this for no reason. I have likely spent thousands of dollars there over the years, not just for oil changes but other stuff. Obviously never going back there again. And no one else should either. read more

Quick service, usually on my lunch break, I get an oil change. There are times I had to come back the next day because they had a few cars waiting, but they let you know how long the wait is when you pull in. When your car is being served, it's not a long wait 15-20 minutes. They always come to you to show you the new oil they put in. read more

I have been long term costumer for this shop.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] However in two consecutive years, they threated to fail our inspection due to streaky wiper blades and forced us to replace, while the wipers were in completely ok state. They claimed the regulation requires you to replace wiper blade if it makes noise, but you will not find any such wording in NYS inspection regulation book. I went in for state inspection and they began the process. During it they stated that I will need a new set of wipers while trying sell me on an oil change. Then they discovered some massive oil leak in both of my front shock. My driveway has no mark of oil of any kind. If there were any leaks, it mysteriously appeared there at the time of inspection. [[HIGHLIGHT]]They should have waited until Pass/Fail outcome to see if I wanted to change the wipers...but no.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I knew about the $37 charge regardless of Pass/Fail outcome but was not given the option to say no to the wipers. IMO, the wipers were not in bad shape at all. So at the end of the day I'm out $91 instead of $37...but will have the assurance that Valvoline will never change anything in my car. read more

AVOID f I could give zero stars it would be a negitive for me got a friend to babysit as a single mom to go get an oil change. find this place close by get there and it says "drive thru" so I follow the signs. I'm rolling up 3 employees are standing outside of the building out of camera sight. I had my trust in the employees to get me in. but they weren't paying attention. I thought it was part of their jobs to guide me in if they aren't going to drive me in. everyone is yelling back forward left right turn this way that way. I get out and the manger says it was my fault because I was drivg and thera nothing they can do. I said ok get me a number to call for them to tell me myself cause it was your employee guiding me in. call the hotline the guy says the mangers wrong and that the manger there already started a claim. ( he told me there nothing he could do but then came back for my info) the hotline started a rapiad claim and invesagetion where they will look at the audio and video. they also didn't service me after ot even offer a free oil change. as I'm saying I'm a single mom who just got a babysitter to run this errand ... not cool totally not cool. 2-3 business days I guess well see whoses fault it really is. read more

My wife took our 11 year old Honda for an oil change. We had a coupon for 50% off conventional oil change. They told her they couldn't because it needed a blended oil. THIS IS DESPITE THE FACT THAT THEY DID A CONVENTIONAL OIL CHANGE SEVERAL TIMES PREVIOUSLY. I went to Valvoline in Great Neck for a conventional oil change. I had a coupon for $24.99 for a full-service oil change which included the filter. I am along-time customer for several years. They charged me $5 more for the filter which I was never charged in past years. My car doesn't take a special filter. I had called up Valvoline before coming to see how much an extra quart of oil is. They told me $5. They charged me instead $10 for a quart of oil. I noticed that the place was empty when I was there. I have a 2020 Altima, not that it matters but I'm the grand daughter of a mechanic I'm not stupid. I took my car in March for a oil change, 40 minutes later I paid for and oil and new filter and went about my day, 2 weeks later the check engine oil alert came on, I first ignored it thinking they just did not reset it after the oil change so I had my brother reset it, after restarting the car to drive home the alert came back. I took my car to another mechanic and he dipped the stick and was all black he said if I had the oil changed 2 weeks ago should not look like that. "Never have to make an appointment" is their motto. I got in and the friendly worker Kim told me to leave my car where it was. Then I went inside. Another man let me know what's going on with the car (showed me both air filter and air cabin filter) and gave me options and I did what I thought was best for my wallet. Never felt any pressure. Then men there behaved the way mechanics should. I'd definitely go back again. Btw, this is named Danny is the most well spoken, polite car technician I've ever met. I've been to this Valvoline location about 4 times now! Had great experiences all 4 times. My first visit was to get my car inspected. The manager promptly told me after inspecting my car that my tire was about to blow and showed me the knot on the tire! I was so thankful and immediately got it replaced. The next few visit involved getting oil changes for my cars. Never waited longer than what they quoted the wait time to be, and I was always shown and educated about exactly what needed to be replaced or maintained( if anything). I used this location annually for oil changes for fifteen years. When Kevin (Alvaro) ran the shop, the service was excellent: pleasant staff, efficient work, and complete check-ups. Since Kevin left, there has been a total change of staff, and the manager and workers are lazy, inefficient, and impolite. I had an oil change in September, as I do every year. I, and another customer, were kept waiting for a long time for no apparent reason, as there were two open bays and ample staff, standing around doing nothing. Several times, when I approached the manager, I was ignored. The oil and filter change was the only service they performed: no fluid checks (my coolant was very low, I discovered on my own), no tire pressure check (also low), no wiper blade check or windshield washer fluid check or any other checks. I can only hope that the oil and filter were done correctly. And, the price is no longer competitive. I see no reason to return to this location, or to Valvoline, for that matter. read more

I went for a state inspection and emission test. I was told two light bulbs that illuminate the license plate were broken. They said they could replace them for $12.99 each. I asked them if they could go through the whole inspection process and let me know what needs to be done in order to pass the inspection. They refuse to do so. Kevin at the service insisted on either I pay for the light bulbs or he'd fail the inspection right away. Then, I need to come back to pay another $27 for re-inspection. Is this how things are done? He claimed that was how the state wants them to do. He was kind of rude and confrontational. Eventually, I paid $65 to pass the state inspection which includes the two lightbulbs. I won't go back there for anything and don't recommend anyone to go there either. read more

Then a month later my girlfriend went for the same thing and they gave her a laundry list of unnecessary maintenance to complete (about $680). I use this oil change service constantly. This saves on money and time compared to using a dealer. The staff are courteous and quick, although the oil change seems to take a bit longer than 15 minutes, much less instant. The location is a bit annoying if you're heading westbound on Northern Blvd too. But at least it's noticeable with the red, white, and blue Valvoline sign. Good service. The service manager and staff were friendly and professional. The oil change could have been quicker but it didn't take an unreasonable amount of time. The oil change seemed a bit expensive but I'm not used to having someone change my oil for me (I usually do it myself) so I'm honestly not sure what the going rate for having a shop change your oil is. Normally I just pay for my oil and oil filter so the price they charged was probably fair considering that there is a labor charge as well. I like that they show you the dipstick after the service so you reassured that the correct amount of oil was put in and that the oil isn't dirty. The day before my visit, I'd gotten an oil change at a different Valvoline location. My skid plate hadn't been reattached properly, and I didn't know where the dragging noise was coming from while driving at high speeds. After calling Valvoline's customer service, they recommended I go back to get my car checked out. The staff at this location was extremely friendly and helpful, and they found the problem with my skid plate quickly. They fixed it without charging me. One of the mechanic was nice enough to ask the manager if he can accept one more car before closing and he said yes but I would have to wait for about 15 to 20 mins. I patiently waited.
